Good analysis of Hanzal, given he's a 6"6 china doll, I wouldn't part with anything more than that late first.

Boy, what a mess Carolina was this year.
Good trade for Carolina imo, not sure how the Sens use Stalberg effectively.

Hmmmm, I never considered that before. Anybody got an answer?

Makes more sense of Yzerman selling Bishop for a whole lot of not much.

There you go Dan, big move for the Sabres.

Another Halak thought, and why I said it made more sense of Yzerman's Bishop move

I'm trying to dig into this with what little time I have left to prep for travel. Haven't found anything yet, but it would seem to be most logical to have the traded player take the bye when the team he currently is on has theirs. Thus, it would be very possible to get 2 or even 3 bye-weeks in one season. What would be even funnier is if those bye-weeks ended up being consecutive. Or... you could have said player do odd-jobs (snow plow the parking lot, push the dumpsters to where the trucks can get to them, etc.) while the rest of the team is on holiday.

Exactly, all sorts of goofy scenarios with players or gms/owners getting shafted. Who wants to pay 6 weeks of salary for 5 weeks of work? I can only imagine the PA's letter of anger about a player losing an entire week.

I'm sure it was addressed in the CBA someplace.

Until I can blow off something important to read through the CBA again, I will happily accept creative or fictional explanations.

    Oooohhhh, good thought here.
This could explain a future acquisition by Garth Snow. He's probably sick of clearing the parking lots and restocking the liquid soap.

Hmmm. Not really what I was thinking of. However, it is logical. The Sabres are too deep at F; there remains a logjam looming. Their D is spread so thin that they called up a WHL prospect for a few games on an emergency basis.

We'll miss Dan'l, and the Rangers have a speedy winger for their bottom-six; he was a very good pick at 3/ #77 in 2011. God, and Amerks fans, knew that ROC needed some help on D. It's good to have someone who's won an NCAA Championship, (Union).

Speaking of NCAA championships, I have many life changing thoughts on the tournament but I have too many distractions and a deadline to deal with. How about that PSU program for starters?

Different thoughts for a different thread, the voices are urging me to stay focused on the Sedins going to the Senaturds or something.

Panthers are counting on their current roster, now healthy, being enough. I'm not sure that'll be the case.

This just in from jimmy Murphy on Twitter:
Chatter tonight amongst NHL sources that #lakings & #Blackhawks have expressed interest in Zdeno Chara & #NHLBruins are listening.

Hawks will be looking to unload anything that isn't vital to the postseason run and/or could be exposed to the expansion draft. Wouldn't shock me to see Chicago toss a pile of prospects in front of Sweeney for Chara and retained salary.

I could see Sweeney taking Svedberg. With Sweeney math (Reilly Smith and Hamilton = Hayes and Beleskey), they're practically the same player.

Was reading this at NHL.com (Mecca) and it made me snicker:
"Sakic also has UFAs, most notably forward Jarome Iginla, who has a no-movement clause in his contract but would like a chance to win the Stanley Cup for the first time. But how much could he help a contender? The 39-year-old has 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 60 games."

Iggy, you had yo' chance, Sucka!

Chara would be a great pickup for a contender. Use him on a 2nd pair and as an elite pk guy and I think you maximize what he can bring to the table. Also having the biggest guy in history in your lineup is nice.

I'd be all for retaining money and getting the best return possible but I don't think Chara waives his no trade anyway.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I'll take last year's all star MVP if I want pure huge and pure smooth.

Chicago has 3 slovakians on the roster right now, not counting the slovak speaking czechs and players they own the rights to. Hossa is his buddy anyway. Most of those players live in the same neighborhood too I believe.

Anyway, I'm betting Bowman is going to try to get Chara several times over the next couple of years. I don't think anybody will be shocked if he takes a Campbell type deal after next season somewhere...like Chicago.

Of course, this is under the assumption that Chicago will be good for at least a couple more years.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    What's Chara even worth?

I would think he's a first and a depth prospect (which almost always get hyped as an unlimited ceiling BOOYAH type of prospect), add a little more with salary retention.
