Obviously his teammates dont feel like he quit on them or they wouldnt be wanting him back. As for not talking to Rooney does he technically have to talk to him once the season ends?
After walking out on his team? Hell yes he does need to talk to the man who pays him millions of dollars. His teammates may feel different then what they're saying to the press, maybe its how they truly feel. The FO may be telling its guys to say he's welcome back in order to keep his trade value up. Idk, all of these reports are speculation, Brown hasn't been talking to anyone and that's part of the problem. I could care less if he tells the media he's in contact with the team, but he does need to sit down with Rooney and Tomlin at least. Maybe Ben as well, who has many times said he wants his All-Pro WR back. If he is going to be back on the team, him and Ben need to be able to work together. Don't have to like each other, but they do have to be able to communicate.
I just realized that Munchack was even better than I thought. You guys realize after Gilbert went down we had three UFAs starting on our oline, and PFF ranked them #1 in the league.
They had no problem throwing Bell under the bus and now all of a sudden they are going to be PC? As for talking to Rooney I get that he should but should and have to are two completely different things. At my job we shut down for two weeks during December and despite the fact I'm still getting paid I dont talk to my bosses during that time even if they call me.
Under ordinary circumstances I'd agree with you, but following the antics in Week 17 its no longer a should. He needs to speak with him if he has any future in Pittsburgh. If he truly wants out, keep doing what he's doing. As for not being PC about Bell, different situation.
There was a team stupid enough to draft him in the 1st round, oh wait that was our beloved Super Steelers, nevermind.
Right and the only team stupid enough to trade for Brandon Boykin and Justin Gilbert was....oh yeah us again hmm that's not a good pattern
Really wish there was some other news than the ongoing AB crap. 2 of my favorite Steelers, Bettis and Ward, have chimed in. Both have said what many here have said, and thats the culture is unrecognizable to what it was when they were patrolling the locker room. Bettis seems to blame current NFL trends which have phased out keeping some of those veteran leaders in an attempt to be younger and faster. Hines seems to put it squarely on Tomlin, as do many fans. Hines also heaped praise on the Patriots and the Patriot Way, which hurts, mostly because its true. Batch also chimed in, defended Ben and put a majority of the blame on AB. IMO it is a combination of all of these views: AB being AB combined with Ben "leading" by criticizing through his radio show combined with Tomlin for allowing it to get this bad and not being able to get this current group of individuals to play as a team. While I think the core of this team is actually a team, it has a couple individuals who are only out for stats and not wins. Maybe shipping out AB does enough good to where they come together as a team and winning games returns to being priority number 1 and stats is very distant 2nd priority. AB's mentors TO and Ochocinco have also gave their opinions, predictably siding with AB. Both have said AB wants out. If thats the case, send his ass to Buffalo to freeze. Let him and Shady compete for stats and maybe knock off the Patriots once in awhile. Buffalo usually has a high pick, not sure what they have this year, and the Steelers won't see AB often enough for that to be a problem. Don't let AB quit on the team and reward him with a trade to a team of his choice...unless they give a damn good deal. I mean if SF does offer #2 overall for just AB, then hell yes. If its #34, and a 3rd rounder, I'd consider it as well.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-harrison-pins-blame-for-drama-on-mike-tomlin We get it James, you're still bitter. Fair does not mean equal, get over it. Tomlin gave AB too much rope, and didn't recognize he needed saving...AB "just wants to win" according to his brief interview...Damn hard to win when you abandon your team. Tomlin has his faults for sure, but this is more on AB than anyone else. Yes, Tomlin should have seen that AB could not handle the extra little freedom. Ward said the final straw was the Facebook Live video, don't know if I agree. Ward wanted Tomlin to bench AB for the AFCCG...When they lost he would have been crucified for benching his best player. Would that have saved the team from its current plight? Or would it have just accelerated it? I don't really know, I think getting benched would've caused a blowup, which would have likely had a negative impact on his extension would have resulted in AB leaving a year early.
I truely don't understand what's going on in Pittsburgh. Offensively, if you look at the roster (including Bell and Brown), you would be hard pressed to find another roster as talented as the Steelers. Yet these two players aren't happy being a part of that team? They rightfully had the chance for the team to put up some legacy type numbers on offense (yes, there are some holes on defense) and they want to piss it away for individual stats? It doesn't surprise me in the least that the "other" 51 active players aren't torching these two guys. That's NFLPA:101 stuff. "Don't bad mouth your union brothers". But, at some point, those 51 other players are going to realize that these two guys are costing them playoff money and possibly their own legacy. For years, Pittsburgh was all about the team. I just dont see where that's true anymore. And if the players are willing to embrace this culture, I doubt Tomlin has the where with all to change it. Each and every player in the locker room has to drive that type of change.
Bell would have loved to be part of team had the Steelers given him somewhere around 17 million per season on a three plus year contract mostly guaranteed. He thinks he's worth what he's asking. I never agreed with his decision. After watching the Brown fiasco I am glad the Steelers held their ground. What can a team do with a superstar that has already been given about a third of their next three seasons pay when they pull a Brown? Brown is a completely different issue. The franchise has twice given him a new contract early. He has already been paid 21 million or so of his next three seasons salary. This guy is above staying at the dorms during training camp. Gets to show up tardy to meeting without repercussion. Storms out of practice when involved in conflict. Doesn't return his coaches phone calls. He has morphed into a monster. Steelers should only trade Brown if they can get a real value for him. Otherwise bring his ass back and fine him for every BS move he pulls. Seek reparations for breach of contract. Sit him and prevent him from attaining the glory he wants. Brown fancies himself a Jerry Rice type player. Gotta play a lot of games to attain those stats.
Which Tomlin helped create so unless he changes his ways someone will replace Brown in the drama department.
Off-season should be giving Ben a defense at the expense of the "stars" around him on offense. The guy won a super bowl with mostly crap receivers so leverage that. Also, they won't get rid of Tomlin so all hope is lost.
I'd prefer they simply cut him outright and save another $1.7 million, but they aren't quick to give up on their high round draft picks, so they'll probably keep Burns and hope they can "rehab" him this offseason, and then cut him if he doesn't show improvement or is improved by the cannon fodder in camp. And because they do this, they'll be even less likely to target a starting caliber corner in free agency or via trade after the draft. And so the secondary problems will likely continue next year, in part because of that decision. Its hard enough to play corner in this league as it is, you simply cannot if you don't even have confidence in yourself and your abilities. The TD catch he gave up to Boyd after coming into the game last year..........dropping 7 yards into the endzone in "man" coverage, allowing his man to simply stop and run an easy out pattern at the goal line for a simple pitch and catch TD (never even having a CHANCE to make a play on the man or ball) is all you need to see to understand he'll never be a decent starting option in the NFL. In addition to confidence, his technique is terrible. All the reps and coaching in the world isn't going to help him. Just admit you made a TERRIBLE mistake by taking him and move on. You will be vindicated when nobody else even claims a recent first round pick off waivers.
For the most part I agree. He's going into his 4th year and he hasn't gotten any better, if anything he's regressed. Is he salvageable? Another new coach, another voice in his ear, will it help? I think its still possible he has the light bulb turn on, but if it hasn't by TC closes then it isn't going to. If he can't get on the field over Coty Sensabaugh, thats a pretty big problem.
https://steelersdepot.com/2019/02/s...emm-to-be-new-assistant-offensive-line-coach/ Steelers hired Adrian Klemm to be the new assisstant OL Coach. Played for the Pats and Packers. Coached Kelvin Beachum at SMU and his last position was OL coach at UCLA in 2016.
https://steelersdepot.com/2019/02/a...-nation-says-its-time-to-move-on-and-forward/ AB has officially asked for a trade, though its coming from Adam Schefter from a source. Until the team comes out and says it, I'm not convinced that its happening. Still takes another team to offer high enough compensation. Hope he goes to Buffalo
