To make sure they get the one they want. Teams make trades before final cuts, not usually for QBs but this is a unique circumstance. I don’t expect it to happen, Dobbs has not been very accurate so far. Honestly I think a trade is the only way Dobbs is not on the roster this year. Don’t think they’ll cut him, but I also didn’t think they would cut jones last year.
After Browns last game maybe they wanna trade for Dobbs to be their starting QB I know I know all the good receivers were out. Not really an excuse but I get it. Big Ben won a superbowl with mostly crap receivers though - just sayin....
When? He won Ward and Holmes, and the first one with Ward, Randel El, and he also had a #1 defense and a top tier running game. Ben did a lot to get them to the game, but once he got there he didn’t exactly light it up. Passing game through Ben was not the reason they won. A great kick out block from Faneca and a beautiful pass from Randel El plus some very timely drops from Stevens were.
Randle El was NOT a good receiver .... as evidenced by how much he sucked without Ben among other things ..... Hell, arguably Holmes wasn't without Ben either .... But only a mega homer with homey homester homer glasses on would act like El, Ward and a cast of no-names was a good receiving core .... and its been stated many times but I know you are in contrarian mode right now so all good - Ben passed all over everyone to get them to the Super Bowl in which El threw that pass etc. And you know that.
I know what Ben did to get them to the game, but once he got there it was pretty ugly. Randle El was the only other receiver I could think of, and he was a good slot receiver. They also had Cedrick Wilson, another not great but solid #2 guy, and Nate Washington who was a good chain mover. And that season was all about Willie Parker and the Bus with a stout defense with Ben not making the big mistake most of the season. The playoffs, the AFCCG especially, was Ben throwing the ball to win. And I didn’t check the Browns stats, did they have a receiver better than Randel El playing? Honestly don’t know, don’t really care. I don’t put a lot of stock into preseason games anyways, and I’m with you on holding off on that Browns Championship the media granted them in July...although the more they talk about the Browns the less people think about the Steelers, and it’s probably beneficial to fly under the radar right now lol
I agree enough to like this post but disagree enough to still contend all those receivers mostly sucked without Ben. Ben gets the most out of his team around him as a general rule. Agree about Browns. And will go further and say Browns have good defense and team around Baker but if you take away his good receivers, he could not do what Ben did.
