Jimmy Howard on 7-day IR... pulled groin.

  4. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Goalies need better groins.

  5. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Speaking of groins, Toews better get healthy sooner rather than later.

Staal of the Canes (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Monday... no timetable.

DENVER ? The Colorado Avalanche have placed captain Gabriel Landeskog on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

The move is retroactive to Nov. 15. In video posted on the team?s website Wednesday, coach Jared Bednar says he hopes Landeskog is more "day to day than week to week."

Landeskog has four goals and four assists in 15 games this season.

The Avalanche will bring up forwards Samuel Henley and Gabriel Bourque from San Antonio of the American Hockey League, the team announced on its website.

I really thought Landeskog was going to be a stud by now.
Can't stay on the ice, can't play consistently, can't lead worth a damn from IR.

Colorado should blow the thing up asap. The system is a mess, the front office is underfunded, and the young players aren't going to get any cheaper. Better to step aside for a few years and let at least a couple of CHI, STL, NAS, and DAL slide back a bit.

Colorado has so many great pieces, it's a shame they wasted it with piss poor managerial decisions and a tight budget.

The owner is unlikely to fire himself. The Avs plight is intractable.

I think Sakic could be a good GM given a fair shake. That may never happen in Denver. Getting out from under Roy was a positive turn of events, but it put them behind the eightball for this season. I think the recent swoon can be attributed to the old laziness under Roy has ascended and the passion* Bednar's trying to instill has waned. That did work for a short time coming out of the gates. (* That's to say "pay attention and give a fuck all the time, especially while you're on the ice".)

The team has some nice assets and some gapping deficiencies. The real problem, IMO, is that they are run as if they're a small market team in a market that only cares about winning teams (unless it's the Broncos).

I think the Avs are screwed for the long term. I hope not since it would be nice to see some real enthusiasm for hockey here. I'm going to see them lose to the Stars on Saturday.

I don't know, he hired Roy
He ignored analytics and it set his franchise back (On ice performance) back by 2 years
He completely misevaluated last year's deadline
He has struggled to take advantage of all the rules that would benefit the AVs in the CBA.

Now I do think any gm has to go through growing pains, but he was there for a couple of years before he was given the keys too.

To be fair, he might not have had any real authority. That would explain much of the failure.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    I agree with this.

I do like the collection of talent they have on the ice but it hasn't been working. That screams to me that there are some massive fundamental problems in management.

That budget or "small market" mentality that you referenced doesn't help things either.

Sakic (and Roy) helped bring two parades to Denver. In a market that does not pay close enough attention, that gave them both very long leashes. Note, I did not say Sakic is a good GM, just that he could be.

Hiring Roy, his teammate and friend was, IMO, a rookie mistake. That was made worse by the success the team had the first season with Roy as bench boss.

Complete disdain for Analytics should, IMO, disqualify a HC and a GM. I think Roy was Nolanesque, and that Sakic was left holding his sack of shit.

The clusterfuck of odd and questionable moves I attribute more to Roy's inept input and to ownership's meddling.

I see the same results in Denver with the Rockies. Its like the Hawks before the nice guy croaked. Until there is a top-down mandate to win, I think the Avs will flounder.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

This is the part that would or could change my opinions on many within the organization. Ever since Kroenke transferred ownership, I'm not sure who does what and which way the wind will blow when certain decisions come up.

With the extensions and FA cash spent the last couple of years, I thought last season was a mandate to win. It was probably on the short term, and not the type you were implying they need (I'm guessing what's in Dan's mind). It's of my opinion that much of the plan is directly related to fixed income from Season ticks and sponsors. I think they wanted a postseason bid.

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

The Avs certainly do suck though.
After winning a playoff series in the 08 playoffs, they've only made 2 playoff appearances since and are on track to miss for their 4th straight year.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks placed center Jonathan Toews on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Nov. 24, and activated defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk from injured reserve.

The Blackhawks captain and top center has an undetermined timeline to return from the upper-body injury that will sideline him for a fifth straight game when Chicago plays at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; NHLN, CSN-PH, WGN, NHL.TV).

Toews hasn't been ruled out for the game against the Winnipeg Jets at United Center on Sunday, but the Blackhawks won't rush him back.

"You've got to be fully recovered and make sure guys are 100 percent before they can play," coach Joel Quenneville said Friday. "Jonny plays at a certain pace and it's all out, so let's make sure he's more than ready when he's coming back."

The injury is related to his back, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

wtf Toews, youre killing hot garbage.

  19. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Amen... 24 games in and 0 goals... that sucketh. He better get moving and producing.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Dallas is starting to get their ponies back. Janmark and Oduya back soon. No word on Hudler.

Toews could come back if he wanted, but he's playing it safe. TVR coming off of IR for Chicago.
