Tuukka Rask was placed on injured reserve by the Boston Bruins on Thursday

The goalie left Boston's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday because of a concussion. The injury came when he was elbowed in the head by Blue Jackets forward Emil Bemstrom, who was skating by the crease and was cross-checked into Rask by Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.

"He's concussed. He got elbowed in the head," coach Bruce Cassidy said after the 3-0 loss.

Bemstrom said the contact was accidental.

"It's not my purpose for that at all," Bemstrom said. "I tried to come back and backcheck. I got a little cross-check in my side and that probably turned my skate a little bit. It wasn't on purpose, of course."

Rask was replaced by Jaroslav Halak, who made 24 saves. Halak made 34 saves in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.

"To come in like that is a tough thing," Boston forward Charlie Coyle said. "He kept us in it."

Rask is 17-4-6 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 28 games. He had been named to the Atlantic Division team for the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Game, but withdrew on Monday.

The Bruins, who host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, NESN, ATTSN-PT, NHL.TV), recalled goalie Dan Vladar and forward Karson Kuhlman from Providence of the American Hockey League.

This is the same Rask that the Leafs drafted in the 1st round (21st) and then traded him for a goalie that was being released in the off-season anyway.

    that was a tough one.
I remember at the time of that draft that the Bruins were interested in Rask. Leafs picked him right before the Bs took Matt Lashoff. Bruins probably not smart enough to take Rask at the time anyway.

Yes, it's really interesting how some of these moves could still hold an impact 15 years later.
    .
So, let's picture a scenario with Rask as a leaf.

No brainstorming would've been needed to constantly try and fill the role.

Gustafsson, Pogge, Raycroft, Toskala, Bernier, Reimer, until they finally landed Andersen.

All their drafts, trades, free agents soley concentrating on their D and F.

3 game 7 losses at the hands of Rask.

A better team means more playoffs, maybe they don't hire Burke.
They don't do a rebuild and don't have Matthews and Marner today.

    A lot of scenarios.

    Fk JFJ!

Bad news for the Sabres… Ullmark out 3-4 weeks with an LBI.

Yeah, this is bad news. Carter Hutton was a career backup before he came, and we all know why. He has had a precipitous decline this season calling into question his ability to even serve that role.

The Sabres G pipeline is Swedish stoked. After Ullmark, they have Jonas Johansson from Sweden. JoJo just played in the AHL All Star game and got the call.

The Hamburgler was signed by the Amerks this summer but hasn’t done anything to suggest he deserves a shot.

Ukka Pekka Luukkonen is The Name on the org. chart, and made the ECHL All Star game. I strongly suspect he’ll get called up to Rochester. He’s Finnish not Swedish. He isn’t expected in Buffalo this season.

The team drafted another Swede, Portillo, in the 2nd or 3rd in June and he’s slated to go to the U. of Michigan this Fall. He’s a big boy and definitely one to watch.

So, the longer term outlook at G is not bleak.

The Sabres have a good record at home, and play 8 of their next 9 in Buffalo. They really need to take 12 points out of that stretch to have any real chance at the playoffs. JoJo might come through but that’s not expected. Losing Ullmark, especially right now, was the last thing I wanted to hear.

Shea Weber out with a high ankle sprain. Could be up to 6 weeks all but ending his season and the Habs’ season. Brutal times in Montreal. I like Weber but fuck them anyway.

Alexander Radulov was placed on injured reserve by the Dallas Stars on Thursday with an undisclosed injury.

The move was retroactive to Feb. 11. Players placed on injured reserve must miss a minimum of seven days, so Radulov will be out at least the next three games.

The sens did good, losing an $11.5M cap hit and getting such a big haul in return.

Not that they'll be cup contenders anytime soon:mad:

Fkn hillarious, this went from career ending and stiffing the Preds with the recapture penalty.
Then it went to just season ending, now it turns out he was at practice this morning and could possibly play next game.

That's why im not crazy about blocking shots. You gotta be crazy to lay down in front of one. What do you pay a goalie for???
