JeeYAYzuz Dan! I'm starting to think you've got my place bugged or something. Oh yeah, right. I forgot. I'm fairly open about that shit.

No hockey person would agree with this, it was a huge win for both teams. With kessel, the leafs would be picking 8th or 9th. Without, they have the first overall, another 1st, kappenen and cap space to sign FA(stamkos) althoufh I wouldn't overpay. On the leafs he wastes his career and wastes leaf cap space and keeps them a middle of the road team for years.

The Smythe has little to do with performance through 4 rounds, it's just a matter of having enough good shifts when the voters are watching.

Other than by Toronto fans at certain times, PHIL has been greatly underrated since his rookie season in my opinion.

I think it was the right move for Toronto, but relying on rookies and young standouts is incredibly dangerous.

MacKinnon, Landeskog, Duchene. Johnson Barrie Varlamov

That 6 is stronger than most of the cores around the league and look what that got them.

Im not judging Phil based on draft positioning or anything else. I personally dont think you trade away your proven #1 point scorer based on future odd's making in the draft lotto.

Its true Toronto lost more games and scored less and have a better draft because of moving Phil, but i dont see that philosophy as an end all. I still see it creating more problems for the Leafs than it solves. Im also near-sighted when it comes to a re-build. I would never 'plan' on a 'long-term' sollution... i dont think its necessary.

The philosophy of getting out of a hole by digging it deeper does not register with me.

I am just a fan with an arm-chair opinion on this, but there are a few teams out there that did blow everything up and didnt get better. i.e. Edmonton.

There are some teams who seemingly fix on the fly... thats more to my personal liking and i believe healthier for a teams system and its logistics.

I agree there are different ways of doing things, so I respect what (they) want to do. Between lou, shanny and babs, how much hockey knowledge is there? The sole purpose of trading kessel was not to finish higher in the draft lottery, although it was inevitable. They sat down and drew up a road map, and kessel wasn't in their plans, (salary, term, no leadership quality). Sure it's nice to have a vet around, but it has to be the right one, and kessel is the last guy you want to have as a role model to the kids.

Between kessel and fanoof, that was 15M of salary, they asked themselves, is this a smart thing to have? I'm guessing the answer was no.

i feel as though the Smythe almost always goes to the guy that leads the league in playoff points or the goalie that stood on his head.

as for his Philness, I take the opposite point of view. He's a one dimensional player that goes through long stretches of not even taking care of his one dimension. He plays w/ contagious apathy when things aren't going his way and he's more reliant on his teammates than most.

I wouldn't write off the avs, they need a little tweaking and a little maturity and they should be fine.

    Then there's their HC, Roy.

Sorry. The Avs won't be fine.

The avs lost stastny, they had problems with their goalie's domestic dispute issues. They saw mack regress and their only real D is EJ, which is pretty weak. Duchene looks like the real deal, but there's so much more than just what you want to believe is the core, you also need patience. If all else fails, you could fire the coach or gm, but they do have talent, but all it goes to show is that you need to add.

Duchene has looked like the real deal for 6 seasons now.
He's not, he's streaky and has some other issues.

My point about the TOR-COL comparison is that Colorado has 6 really, really good players to build around and it didn't work. Most teams can get 3 or 4. Getting 6 is really tough no matter where they are picking. Edmonton doesn't even have 6. Toronto has maybe 2.

lol, I never meant to imply that they'll be fine.
I'm just pointing out how a very successful collection of talent can lead to failure.

I shouldn't be talking about that here.

    This is about his Philness.

He ate all of that btw.

  19. I've never seen a player get more undeserved hate than Phil Kessel. He's a great player that shows up in big situations. Can't blame him because there were never any big situations in Toronto.

Nobody's saying that it's fool proof. That' s the whole point, "to build around". That's on management.
