A-Rob and Mooney were already going to be wasted with the Dalton/Foles combo. Looking at the silver lining if we do sign Golladay, at least he won't be productive for Detroit.
I don't get it. The most puzzling part of this is the 1 year deal. It can't be for the new QB if he were trading up, as where does Dalton fit into that picture, *also* on a one year deal. You authorized Hicks to look for a trade this year....to free up cap space for Golliday? If we are rebuilding, then why are we spending, shouldn't we be accumulating draft picks in trades, and keeping the compensatory picks? Is this just pure desperation by Pace to field a mediocre team again and save his job? Is his seat even hot, since in the press conference everyone was clearly avoiding answering the question on contract lengths and the beat writers all suspect he was extended? Someone on reddit likened this to someone playing Street Fighter for the first time and just mashing all the buttons as quick as you can. That sure is what it feels like. I'm also conflicted, because I did want them to make changes as the last two seasons were unacceptable. And they are making changes I guess. All I really want is to enjoy watching this team again. Outside of 2018 it has been a dire fucking decade.
I saw the number up at 12 with potentially another 10 in the pipeline. That is a lot of people/lawsuits. Never heard anything about the guy off the field other than he's a great teammate and member of the community. I agree blang buddy, he's one of the last players i would've expected to hear this about. The allegations are undeniably troubling in a number of ways. I've long been a believer that half of everything in life is timing. Call me a cynic(many have and a lot worse too) but at this stage the timing of all this feels undeniably suspicious.
Normally I'm inclined to agree.. I was talking about this with a buddy of mine this afternoon and he's convinced the Texans ownership is behind this. But that doesn't make sense. All this does is drive down Watson's trade value and possibly lead to a lengthy suspension (which I guess means they wouldn't have to pay him?). But the Texans are either stuck with someone who hates them and wants out, or will have to trade him for significantly less than they could've gotten a week ago. I feel like if their ownership was behind any of this, they would have been really savage and waited till they fleeced a QB-desperate team, then had this all come out to really stick it to him.
We should consider the possibility the Texans have decided Watson is not leaving under any circumstance and they will do whatever it takes to make sure of that. We already know for a fact huge roster decisions can be made there based purely on emotion/conflict of personalities and ego. DHop is a case in point. Yes O Brien made that trade but ownership didnt stop him. And its very possible there have been many other personnel decisions made this way. At that point it becomes the culture in the building which comes from the top, O Brien was just operating within that structure. What you said makes total sense and maybe you're right. But my problem is the way that organization is run doesnt make sense. It is totally disfunctional with epically bad ownership. I really think we have to consider the possibility they have made this personal and like an abusive partner will not let the other half leave. There is a certain fucked up logic to saying Watson only leaves if teams want him, but if we turn him into a pariah no one will want him.
And can i just add, if these allegations are proven true or criminal charges are brought and proven etc, then obviously Watson will deserve everything he gets. It would be pretty devastating in numerous ways tho, not least cos he is one of the last people you would suspect.
I like the Jeremiah Attaochu signing. I don't like the 'void years' Pace has been giving out, where he's kicking the 'guaranteed money' can down the road some more. Attaochu's on a 2 year, $5.5 mil for edge rusher depth. Just that number makes me feel better when Robert Quinn spends this upcoming season blocked because depth after him last year was painful. Then you look at Attaochu's contract, and he has 2 void years where the bears kick what should be his 2 and change mil average per year to 1.6 mil into 'void' years 3 and 4, when he's gone (800k each season). Andy Dalton is worse. 1 year 10 mil. Sound's better when the 2021 season is done and the 'red rifle' is gone, right? Nope. 4.67 mil cap hit next year and 2.33 in 2023--when he's off the team. The bears also signed Desmond Trufant--whose best days are long gone/I wanted him 5 years ago before he became an injured shell of himself and target practice with the lions. Won't hate it if he's given the opportunity in the slot--because he sure as shit cannot play outside anymore and you really can't do worse than the guy you had for the past 2 years. Kyle Fuller was a free agent for less than 30 minutes. Fire everyone. Basically this. Innocent until proven guilty because assholes like the girl who lied with Ruben Foster (and Jussie Smollet with his situation) ruined it for actual victims now and in the future... That being said, everybody has come out of the woodwork over the past couple of days. 0 allegations to 1 to 2, now 13?
While this all has to play out, 1-2 women might be something the texans org could whip up. 16 official lawsuits and the lawyer says there's another 10 or so coming? That's a lot of women for the Texans to drum up, and IF they did, I can't imagine it would keep quiet for long. And Watson's defense is that one of the women he did have some sort of sexual encounter with, but it was consensual? That admits he is looking for happy endings, etc and moves the bar farther away from everything said is a lie. And we're a week or two in here. Not to mention if the texans did want to poison the well, wouldn't they have had more reasonable demands for a trade and then fire bomb him afterward? He'll get his day in court and he might win, he obviously feels confident enough to reject the initial settlements. It is seeming unlikely at this point everything was 100% above board though. The only odd thing to me is that there are no criminal charges filed, some of the descriptions from the women are straight up rape.
Who's ready to start drinking early on Friday? Pace/Nagy had another presser! Also, Pace doesn't like hard questions about Mitch and is excited about growth. He threw Foles under the bus, really likes Andy Dalton, and believes Desmond Trufant and Kindle Vildor can play CB2; also he tried his hardest to keep Kyle Fuller but "that's just the way it worked out." He's evaluating QBs in the draft differently than he evaluated Mitch. There are now 17 games of this trainwreck of collaboration. He's excited and hit all the buzzwords.
