Same line, no Richardson and add Gordon. We all know now that line play, QB and RB was the problem. Gordon performed like a #1 today. Now we need to find a legit #2. Camron was a steal in the draft. He and Gordon were about the only things H&H did right. We have a tight end and #1 WR. Like I said before I still want 1 of those QB's coming out. Let them sit, learn the offense, add to the offense and roll. With Hoyer your back up and then Campbell. Weeden is gone like yesterday. QB, G, RB and WR to your offense. Shwartz continues to get beat like a rug. I might look at tackle somewhere down the road also. The Brown's have given up the most sacks in the league. Need young TALENT on the line! Hoyer played competent today. Only 1 game but he did get you a win. Just imagine the kicker has as many TD's as your starting QB through 3 games. NOT GOOD for Weeden. But I'm happy with the win. Plus the Tribe won. PLAYOFFS BABY! See what happens when you add talent. Someone needs to tell Haslam that. He's the one playing in front of sell out crowds every week. Any win is a good win in my eyes. Man, I hope we can get Ben Tate. Not for to much though.
I've always liked Brian Hoyer - was looking forward to what he could do. But give the guy the rest of the season - weak Vikings team and a first-game QB to have no tape on... Hypothetically, if he does turn out to be the guy the Browns want running the show, going forward, do you draft a QB with the first pick regardless? I know, I know, that's a long ways down the road, but it could be an interesting situation.
Absolutely. Outside of an improbable 12-0 run that sees Hoyer carry this team to the playoffs, I feel QB has to the be the first position addressed in 2014. Especially in a class with such a (potentially) rich line-up. That said, a nice situation to have would be Hoyer developing into a solid game manager and giving the coach staff the ability to bring the future QB along at a more reasonable pace. If Hoyer was franchise-QB material, he wouldn't have been on his third team in four years and be available so cheaply.
Looks like somebody forgot to tell the Browns' players that they are tanking the season. Tim, Got your PM . . . I'll wait until you have time to stop by for your plate of crow.
Josh Gordon had 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown in his season debut, and Cameron had six receptions for 66 yards. 0 Comments MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Cleveland hasn't given up on the season. Minnesota's is already slipping away. Jordan Cameron caught three touchdown passes, including the go-ahead grab in the back of the end zone with 51 seconds left, and the Browns kept the Vikings winless with a 31-27 victory Sunday. Third-stringer Brian Hoyer threw for three scores for the Browns (1-2), the latest team to torch Minnesota's depleted secondary. He overcame three interceptions to throw for 321 yards, going 30 for 54. Josh Gordon had 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown in his season debut, and Cameron had six receptions for 66 yards. Christian Ponder ran for two touchdowns for the Vikings (0-3), but he threw an interception, lost a fumble and took his sixth sack on the final play of the game. After trading young star running back Trent Richardson and elevating Hoyer for his second career start, the Browns looked finished. But they held Adrian Peterson to 88 yards and one score on 25 rushes, used a fake punt and a fake field goal in the first half to build their lead and stun a Vikings club coming off a 10-6 season. The Vikings got Blair Walsh's second field goal of the game with 10:47 remaining, but they punted twice after that and missed all kinds of chances to put the game away. The Browns started at their 45 with 3:21 left and finished the commanding march with a 7-yard pass in the corner to tight end Cameron. Ponder almost hit Jerome Simpson in a crowd at the goal line on the penultimate play. The bigger problem for Minnesota was the defense against a Browns team that totaled 16 points and one touchdown over the first two games. Top cornerback Chris Cook injured a groin muscle in the first quarter and didn't return. Peterson powered in for a 2-yard score and the Vikings were quickly in front. The Browns punted after 45 seconds on their opening possession. But a funny thing happened to the Vikings on their way to the blowout this was set up to be. Hoyer found Gordon uncovered along the sideline after he faked out A.J. Jefferson for a 47-yard touchdown. After an ugly three-and-out by the Vikings, the fans were already booing, and they grew even more disgruntled when Gordon gained 30 yards on Cleveland's next play. Cameron made a tough catch at the edge of the end zone to put the Browns up 14-7. Ponder scored on a draw play to tie the game, but the Browns used a fake punt -- safety Josh Aubrey ran with the snap for 34 yards, and set up a field goal by Billy Cundiff. Ponder's next pass was tipped and picked off by T.J. Ward. The Vikings thought they forced another kick, but holder Spencer Lanning spun around and found Cameron open along the sideline for an 11-yard touchdown in a bizarre second quarter. Travis Benjamin dropped a punt the Vikings recovered at the 26, but coach Leslie Frazier was flagged 15 yards for challenging a play only reviewable by booth officials. Walsh's field goal sliced the lead to seven. Hoyer's first interception led to Ponder's fumble at the Cleveland 10 as he was sacked on the final play of the half. The second pick by the Vikings came in the third quarter, but Peterson fumbled the ball back two plays later. Finally, after Sharrif Floyd tipped Hoyer's pass from the end zone and Erin Henderson grabbed the pop-up, the Vikings converted a turnover into a TD. Ponder scrambled for 8 yards and crossed the goal line in a jarring collision.
Earlier I read on CBS that the Browns wanted to trade a pick and Little to Houston for Ben Tate. But the Texans don't want a pick. They want Gordon and Little. Tate is a free agent at the end of the year and wont start unless Arian Foster is hurt. It didn't say whether the Brown's or the Texans started the talks. But from everything that has been going on this week it wouldn't surprise me if it was the Browns. Then on CBS I read that the Brown's in fact are shopping Gordon! ( Please say it is not so! ) This time it was the Patriots. They want Gordon. It didn't say anything about anyone else or anything else. That would more than likely be a pick or 2. It didn't say what pick or picks. I knew once they traded Richardson the avalanche was coming. But I would of never thought it would be Gordon. The article said that Banner and Lombardi didn't like anyone on the offense but Thomas and Mack. They have to like Camron I'm figuring. But who knows. Now I can figure what everyone's feeling is about trading Gordon. But I don't think we will get much for Little alone. We will have to throw in one of those picks we have. I guess my question is would you guy's trade Little and a 3rd rd. pick for Tate? Do you guy's want Tate? Do you want Tate if it cost you Little and Gordon? Would you trade Gordon to the Patriots for a 1st,2nd or 3rd rd. alone? As I said before I don't want to trade Gordon. I want to get rid of Little and add to the WR corp. The article said that Banner and Lombardi think there is a lot of talent in this draft. Deep draft. I like Tate but not at the expense of Gordon. Its a pass happy league. As we seen today with the Vikings. So be ready Brownie fans. Where there is smoke there is fire. Just like with Richardson. We will have to wait and see.
I have no problem moving Little . Gordon stays unless he screws up again which will mean he is done then by all means trade him before they find out . they do like Tate and he will be available at the end of season as a free agent. if they would take Little for Tate straight up then do it . the run blocking still SUCKS so does it really matter who the RB is ?
some guys are late bloomers .maybe Hoyer is one of those . he was behind Brady in NE . he had no chance there . lets see how the rest of the season plays out if he starts the rest of the way which I think he should . I was a Weeds supporter and will support whoever is behind center but after watching Hoyer play today I think he can get better with more time working with the # 1 offense . he has to cut the INT down that's for sure . take care of the ball better but he seems more accurate than Weeds . does he start the rest of the season or does Weeds come back ?
Congrats to all Browns fans, shipping Richardson to Colts may have lit the pilot light on the rest of the players. Nice job Browns on a win, nobody thought you would get.
Updated at 6:33 p.m. MINNEAPOLIS Their hometown quarterback had the game of his life. Their big-play receiver paid restitution for a two-game suspension. Their defense held the best running back of his time to no run longer than nine yards. In the end, though, it was Rob Chudzinski who made the biggest statement of the day with his first victory as Browns coach, 31-27, over the Minnesota Vikings. Pulling out all the stops, Chudzinski proved to everybody that his team wasn?t quitting on him or itself ? even as competing networks tripped over each other reporting rumors of a fire sale of unwanted players begun by team management. ?We?re never going to quit ? the guys in this room or myself,? Chudzinski said. To which Browns fans fearing another year of double-digit losses must have said, ?Tank you very much.? ?This is a clear sign to people that we?re not tanking anything,? said linebacker D?Qwell Jackson, who had a team-high 10 tackles in helping to hold Adrian Peterson to 88 yards and a 3.5-yard average, and also stripped a fumble of the frustrated reigning league MVP. Receiver Josh Gordon had 10 catches (on 19 targets) for 146 yards and one touchdown, plus an end-around run of 22 yards, in his first game back from his league suspension. Tight end Jordan Cameron had six catches and three touchdowns, including the game-winner on a 7-yard fade over safety Harrison Smith with 55 seconds left. In his final pep talk the night before, Chudzinski urged his players to spark something to get the team out of its rut. The offense had scored one TD and 16 points in starting yet another season 0-2. ?Everybody was feeling it,? Gordon said. But the biggest spark was lit by Hoyer, who had a storybook debut in his first game as Browns quarterback. Hoyer battled back from the adversity of three interceptions and orchestrated only the second Browns victory in Minnesota in history. He faced down the Vikings, who held three backs substituting for the traded Trent Richardson to a collective 49 yards on 14 carries and dared him ? the Browns? No. 3 quarterback ? to beat them. And he did it inside one of the loudest dome stadiums in sports, where a decibel reading of 118 makes it sound like standing next to a jet engine upon takeoff. ?You can barely hear what?s going on in the huddle,? said left tackle Joe Thomas. Yet Hoyer was unflappable, throwing 54 times and completing 30 for 321 yards. He was sacked three times. The interceptions reduced his passer rating to 68.5, but it was one of the heroic games by a Browns quarterback among the 19 who have started since 1999. ?Brian Hoyer, I can?t really say enough about the guy,? said Gordon. ?He?s a firebrand. He can really rally the guys around him.? ?He did a great job throwing and getting everybody organized and throwing it on time,? Thomas said. ?That makes everybody better. And, obviously, having Josh Gordon back was huge for us.? Hoyer was just as unflappable after the game, never letting the emotions of the moment get to him. Imagine growing up in Cleveland, playing at St. Ignatius High School, and then leading the Browns to an unimaginable win in his first start. The burden of proving to the team ? and its fans ? that the season was not lost fell on the quarterback?s shoulders. ?I just hope I didn?t put my wife into labor by having it end the way it did,? Hoyer joked. His wife is expecting the couple?s second baby on Oct. 21. ?But it will definitely go down as something special. You guys ask me a million times, ?Does it mean more playing for your hometown team?? Yes, obviously, it does, and to win and get that first win is huge. Now, hopefully we can just build on it and keep it rolling.? The Vikings (0-3) cranked up the noise level with a touchdown on their first possession. But Hoyer responded with two TDs on his first two series. By the end of the first half, the Browns built a 24-17 lead on the strength of a run for a first down by upback Josh Aubrey on a fake punt and then an 11-yard TD pass from placement holder/punter Spencer Lanning to Cameron on a fake field goal. ?That?s always going to be our mentality,? said Chudzinski. ?We are going to be aggressive.? Things got hairy for the Browns in the third quarter. The Vikings? rush heated up and forced two Hoyer interceptions. Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder, who was booed throughout the contest, capitalized on only one for a touchdown ? his second run to the end zone on the day. A field goal then gave the Vikings a 27-24 lead with 5:14 to go ? their first since the opening drive. Jackson said the interceptions weren?t deflating to the defense ?because we were moving the ball.? After the defense forced a Ponder three-and-out, Hoyer took over at the Browns? 45 with 3:21 left. Unbeknownst to many, kicker Billy Cundiff had pulled a groin muscle during the second half and was unavailable to try a game-tying field goal. ?I was thinking we need a touchdown,? Hoyer said. ?I told those guys in the huddle, ?Let?s just go win it right here.?? In eight plays, Hoyer took the Browns to the Vikings? 7. The clock read: 1:00. On first down, Hoyer threw it out of the end zone with Greg Little covered. On second down, he threw it into the ground short of Cameron to stop the clock again. On third down, Hoyer eyed Cameron single covered by safety Harrison Smith, and he lofted it perfectly toward the right corner. ?It was a hot read,? said Cameron. ?They brought the house and I just ran to the corner. Brian put the ball where no one else could get it, and it was a great throw.? The defense then held as Ponder got off seven passes, including a semi-Hail Mary followed by a sack, the Browns? sixth of the game. As much as anyone in the Browns? locker room, Hoyer knew how it important it was for them to show the fans that this season wasn?t over in September. ?I used to think that way, too,? Hoyer said of his days rooting vainly for the Browns. ?Hopefully, this is a change. But I know how everyone feels. I think we just need to take this momentum and take this to our next game (against Cincinnati).? That will be truly a joyous homecoming for Hoyer in FirstEnergy Stadium. A quarterback switch after this performance? Now that would be tanking.
Motivational Speaker Ray Lewis visits the Browns today to get them fired up for their game against the Vikings. OK bring it in. I know I was a Raven before, but today I am a Brown -- just like I was a Brown before the Ravens was born -- cept that was before I was drafted. So I was still a 'Cane at the U!!!!!! And just like that, U can't be down about this game. A new season starts today. #33 won't be out there anymore. You gotta learn to live without #33 and what he brought to the table. And what he brought was goodness. He brought a table of goodness to the field. You gotta forget all about Leroy Hoard. Leroy done resigned. He was tricked into resigning. NFL said, "Leroy, you oughta resign." Leroy thought that mean re-sign a new contract. So Leroy said, "Sure, gimme that paper." And he resigned it. Then he was out of a job so he went to Hollywood to play Carlton on the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air". I miss that show. I miss "Blossom" too. Funny how every episode was a "very special Blossom." And every show was the same. Blossom do somethin and her brother would say "whoaaaa" and everybody would laugh. Blossom get her period. Joey would walk in and say "whooaaaaa" then they'd all laugh. And just like that show, today we all blossom. You have to forget all about Leroy. Because today we got Obiwankenobi carrying the ball. So all you hairy-@ss wookies got to get out there and block. Member how in "star wars" Luke was makin out wiff that girl with danishes on the side o her dome? Then later finds out that's his sister. Ewwwwwww that's a special type of freaky. But that's what we need today. We gotta be super freaky -- Just like Rick James. We gotta run up to the Vikings an hit dem upside duh head and say "I'm Rick James b!tch." We gotta find AP and say "Yo Adrian..." and smack 'em around like Rocky did when he found out his ol lady killed his goldfish and was makin time with Mr. T. I read that in ancient times the Vikings battled buck nekkid. It's true, you'd say, "OK let's war at 3 o'clock in merry old england." And these fools show up nude as they day they was born and say "Let's throw it down, b!thches." This would freak their enemies out. They'd say "No thank you. You win. We ain't fightin no nekkid dudes. Go put some clothes on and maybe we'll talk." It's just like that scene in that Mel Gibson movie about Ireland where they about to battle and Mel and Danny Glover and all their buddies pull their skirts up and shake their junk at Gary Busey and Joe Pesci. Except when they won that war, nobody knew Mel was an anti-sodomite. Member how Mel got drunk one night and started complaining about the sodomites in hollywood. Saying they run everything. But they showed him. Made that movie "Napoleon Sodomite" about a retarded kid who could dance. And that's what we gotta do. We gotta embrace the sodomites and learn to dance. Dance all over them nekkid Vikings. Because if we have 53 men working together, we can win this thing and bring back the "Fresh Prince" -- and maybe get Jazzy Jeff a job too. Let us pray.
Sooo who is laughing now ? Tank you very much lets kick the kitty this Sunday on the lakefront & there inbred fair weather fan base . send em packing back down I71 with Chit falling off the trailers as the hobble back all beat up . speaking on inbreds .just what is the Stoolers record *JOKINGLY*
Broncos linebacker Von Miller is currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirms that Miller tried unsuccessfully to corrupt the NFL's drug-testing program with the help of a urine collector before both were caught. ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported the story. This explains why when Miller was suspended on Aug. 20; initial reports indicated that the suspension was a result of negotiations between the NFL Players Association and the league. Miller could have faced a more severe suspension until it was negotiated down to six games. "Any future mistakes -- not just necessarily a positive test -- but if Miller fails to comply with every piece of this testing protocol, it could result in a one-year suspension," La Canfora said during a Sunday appearance on CBS Sports Network's That Other Pregame Show. One of Mortensen's sources was "reasonably certain" that no money changed hands between Miller and the collector, but, Mortensen adds, "there was concern the NFL may have a problem beyond Miller and the collector involved." Mortensen continued: "While Miller's reps and the NFLPA were prepared to fight the suspension vigorously in the appeals process, sources said the NFL, NFLPA and Miller's representatives became aware the Broncos linebacker and the collector involved worked together in an attempt to help Miller avoid a failed test." At the time of his suspension, Miller said that "there is no excuse" for violating the rules but added that the suspension did not "result from a positive test." Now we know why. "I made mistakes and my suspension has hurt my team, Broncos fans, and myself," Miller said at the time. "I am especially sorry for the effect of my bad decisions on others. I will not make the same mistakes about adhering to the policy in the future. During my time off the field, I will work tirelessly and focus exclusively on remaining in peak shape." Last week, La Canfora reported that Miller's parents had moved in with the third-year player shortly after his suspension came down, and the Broncos plan to have a team employee work directly with Miller on a daily basis making sure he is coordinating his time wisely, and working with the player's representatives closely. "Miller isn't seen as a bad kid by any stretch, but clearly he has issues with maturity and responsibility," La Canfora wrote. "He's been known to show up to the wrong meeting at the team facility or show up late despite being inside the facility, with details sometimes slipping his mind. For lack of a better word, team officials will babysit him more closely and ensure Miller understands that things many would take for granted -- like traveling outside of the state without first notifying the NFL -- he cannot do. Due to the stage of the drug program he is in, all such trips must be cleared first so that Miller is able to potentially be drug tested."
OK we got it, now let's build on it!!! Was gone all day yesterday, just finished watching on DVR for the 2nd time, just to make sure...We have some correctable mistakes, still came away with W and now I am thinking this team is better off with Hoyer. For the question about QB in the draft, it now depends on how many come out. I would still take any of the 5 discussed, as they all have franchise potential...but maybe not give up 5 first rounders to move up to get one...
What a game! The Browns looked fluid and dangerous in the first half. This was the team I thought we had when we got all hyped up in the preseason. Joe Thomas's comment that he didn't get depressed when the INTs happened "because we were moving the ball" is exactly the feeling I had watching from home. That is the feeling a team that thinks they can win has all the time, and something sorely lacking up until this game. The reality that we were playing a team with a less than stellar D backfield, and that we had to use not one but two trick plays to make it happen, gives me pause for projecting Ws going forward, but I was flying high yesterday. Seeing our Browns move up and down the field with efficiency, was amazing, but seeing them come back with everything on the line at the end was just so incredible. We have won the first half of every game we played this year, but, like too many years behind us, we seem to play our worst when the game is on the line. Not yesterday, and that is HUGE. Next week's game vs Cinci is obviously a critical test, and I certainly don't expect to win, but I now have hope we "could". Looking forward to watching a Browns game with hope.
Sweet sweet victory for Cleveland yesterday! TANK THAT!!! Biggest difference between Hoyer and Weeden is obvious. Hoyer throws a very catchable ball. He know's how to put "touch" on his passes and understands that everything doesn't have to be a 90 mph fastball...Great gameplan by the coaching staff. I love the "nothing to lose" style. Enjoyed the special teams trickery, and that Browns pass rush looks really strong...Great game. It was fun being entertained for a change. I just love that they played so hard, came up with the win, and stuck it in the face of all the naysayers. After a loooong long week of listening to every "expert" in the country tell us how the season is lost, and there was virtually no chance for a win Sunday, that one felt REALLY good.... WOOF WOOF! GO BROWNS!
I'll grab a quick bite before I head out the door, nice win for the Browns. I'll be on later today to take my lumps...
