Yeah, all of these could come out. But, what happens when they discover that if they did . . . they could very well end up in Cleveland?
Ode to absurdity Here it is slightly more than 36 hours after the stunning trade of Trent Richardson and there is nothing but silence emanating from Berea. What?s going on here? It is quite obvious the Richardson deal was the first shot in what soon will be called the rebuilding of the Cleveland Browns. So why stop now? If you?re going to break up a team, do it the right way. If you?re going to stockpile draft picks, don?t sit around with your thumb up your hind flanks. Do something. There are other moves to be made. Why are Joe Thomas, D?Qwell Jackson, Joe Haden, Mitchell Schwartz and T. J. Ward still on the roster? Certainly there are other National Football League teams that could use their talents. The Denver Broncos, for example, recently lost offensive tackle Ryan Clady for the season. A quick call to John Elway out in Denver can remedy that situation in a hurry. Thomas would look great in orange and blue and fetch yet another first-round pick. Maybe two. You can bet Elway wouldn?t mind parting with a couple of No. 1s if he could plug Thomas in as Peyton Manning?s protector on the left side of the Broncos? offensive line. So who, the critics would ask, replaces Thomas in that case? Who cares? The front office didn?t care who replaced Richardson after that deal. It makes no difference. Stockpiling for the future is what?s important. So . . . wouldn?t Haden look terrific in New England?s secondary? Think Bill Belichick would give up a No. 1 for him? Damn right he would. Maybe even throw in a third-rounder. Let?s not stop there as Joe Banner and Mike Lombardi take dead aim on 2014. How about Ward to the Oakland Raiders ? he?s their type of smash-mouth safety ? for another third-rounder? And the Arizona Cardinals are looking for an offensive tackle. Why not Schwartz? Jackson sure would look nice in silver and Hawaiian blue making tackles behind Ndamukong Suh in Detroit. If you?re going to purge a team, you might as well weaken it to the point where you?re the odds-on favorite to wind up with the top pick of the college draft. Don?t just sit there, guys. Move. Make it as difficult on your head coach as you possibly can. Take all the bullets out of his gun belt. And then you can make the ultimate move at the end of the season. Thank him for his efforts. Then fire him. Absurd? Preposterous? You bet. Will it happen? No. That would be absurd and preposterous.
They are not going to turn down that paycheck, Irish. You know that as well as I do. Also the closer you are to #1 the better your chance is to getting 1 of them. They are going to want to be the savior of the Cleveland Browns. NFL multimillionaire. Being a 31 year old, not very good QB is the problem. If all of them don't come out that is not our problem. TALENT IS! Line ,QB, RB and WR is. I knew this was a 5/6 win team from the start. Last year was just like the 14 years before. Yes we found Gordon, yes we found Richardson. But that was about it. They revamped the defense because they knew the offense was sluggish. On top of Banner's and Lombardi's draft board was written........ FIND FRANCHISE QB in red ink. That's what this draft is about Irish. FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK! All they can do is put themselves in position this year to take one. Stock pill more picks to fill more holes. At least we can concentrate on building offense and not both. To get that QB you need a top 3 pick. But lets face it the Browns always end up with a top 5 pick NOT trying to. So they trade Richardson, your best offensive weapon. You start Hoyer over Campbell. Who does not give you a better chance to win and you roll to mediocrity. I'm sorry Irish but this is where the Brown's are. This is where they have been since they came back. A terrible football team and organization. You don't have to like it but you have to finally say it is what it is. Records don't lie man. The disfunction of this team doesn't lie. Whats the difference in the 5th pick or the 2nd pick? The 2nd pick you get a player you want not who falls to you. This offense don't have to tank to suck. They already do. This draft is full of TALENT on the offensive side of the ball. Now it is time for them to go get it. But that QB is important. If only Boyd and Manziel come out and you don't want one of those go get Lee. Go get Mathew's, Go get Yankey, Go get Cyril Richardson, Go get Clowney. That's 5 All- Americans. That is 1 wr, 1 tackle,2 guards and DE and the best defensive player in the draft. This team is short on TALENT. All those players would be major upgrades from what we have now. So with winning less than 5 games assures me any of those picks. I WANT IT. Then on to the 2nd pick in the 1st rd. If I cant get one of those QB's then I build around that and get him the next year. I mean come on Irish this team has been rebuilding for 14 years. 2 more years wont make a difference. They still sell out the stadium and they suck. It is what it is.
bluez, as crazy as your premise is, it is not crazy at all. Now we know this season would be lost, although I don't think after this week, it already seems that way but to trade off Thomas, Haden, hell anyone of top 4 round pick value, the Browns could end up with 25 or 30 picks in the draft, 15 in the top 4 rounds. Those could be used to assemble a group of rookies, I know but almost a whole team to learn together, grow together and learn how to win together. As a fan, I would enjoy the process because as is, it is plug holes and continue to 4-12. That young team under the guidance of a good coaching staff could develop quickly, it would take some time but I would enjoy watching it develop and win by win turn a crazy thought into a positive concept. Call me crazy but stuff as is isn't working.
I can?t speculate about what?s in any one person?s head, but when a player enters the league wearing headphones incessantly, shows up late for treatments, and makes little effort to engage with his teammates, he can quickly develop a reputation for being insular and high-maintenance. It can be perceived that he isn?t happy and that he?s not making an effort to buy in. I?ve seen this happen countless times, especially in today?s head down, keep-things-to-yourself culture. from a former player . sounds like T Rich marched to his own drum . this trade as crazy as it was at first is making sense to me now . also who says we have to draft a QB with our first pick ? Mallet and others will be out there to be had along with maybe Cutler
BEREA: The fallout from the Trent Richardson trade continued to weigh on the Browns on Friday. Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas held court in the locker room after practice and explained why he believes all of the players on the roster, except for rookie outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo, the sixth overall pick in this year?s draft, could be dealt by the new regime. CEO Joe Banner and coach Rob Chudzinski responded to former Browns President Mike Holmgren?s scathing comments about the trade. And former Browns linebacker Scott Fujita wrote a column for FoxSports.com questioning whether Richardson bought into the organization and lamenting how some of his former teammates and close friends are stuck in ?what seems like a forever rebuild.? Although Thomas has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first six NFL seasons, he?s convinced that he is expendable. ?Nobody on any team is untouchable,? Thomas said. When the new regime traded Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a first-round pick in next year?s draft Wednesday, Thomas? belief was reinforced. ?About the only people safe are the ones that came here this year in the first round that were drafted by the guys that are making the calls right now,? Thomas said. ?That?s the way it is. I?ve been through four coaching staffs right now and GMs. And if you?re not drafted by them, there?s no safety in this business.? But it doesn?t seem realistic that the Browns would trade Thomas, one of the best in the NFL at a premier position. ?On Tuesday, if they would?ve said, ?We were going to trade for Trent Richardson,? would you think it was unrealistic??? Thomas said. ?You?d be surprised [if they traded me], I?m sure, but anything can happen.? Holmgren couldn?t believe the Browns shipped Richardson to the Colts, and he ripped the new regime for doing it. ?It?s just too wild,? Holmgren said Thursday night during an interview with Sports Radio 950 KJR in Seattle. ?This sort of thing doesn?t happen, and it happened.? Last year, Holmgren and former Browns General Manager Tom Heckert traded selections in the first (No. 4), fourth (No. 118), fifth (No. 139) and seventh (No. 211) rounds to the Minnesota Vikings, so they could move up to No. 3 spot and pick Richardson, who starred at the University of Alabama. Holmgren said if he were in Chudzinski?s shoes, he would leave the Browns because of the trade. ?Philosophically, if I?m the coach and someone came in anywhere and did that, said, ?We?re going to do this,? my response would be, ?Fire me or I?m going to quit or we?re both going to go into the owner and talk about this and then we?ll see who?s standing,?? said Holmgren, a Super Bowl-winning coach. ? ?I?d shake hands and walk. I would quit on the spot. ?They aren?t coming right out and saying it, but they are preparing for next year and next year?s draft. If I listen to [Chudzinski], who said, ?We want to be competitive,? they don?t know who?s going to be the running back this week. How do you make your team better by trading your best player? He?s their best offensive player. He?s a valuable, valuable guy. To me, they are putting all their eggs into next season. They started off 0-2 and they couldn?t score any points, and I think it was a knee-jerk reaction.? In response to Holmgren?s criticism, Chudzinski stressed he was involved in the trade talks all along and emphasized the importance of getting his players ready for their road game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings (0-2). ?I love Cleveland,? Chudzinski said Friday after practice. ?I love these fans. I love this team. I feel strongly that I absolutely agree with our plan, what we?ve done to this point, in bringing a winner to Cleveland. I?m focused on this game and playing in Minnesota and getting our guys ready to play and win and focused on that alone.? The Browns went 12-31 during Holmgren?s tenure. After Jimmy Haslam bought the team last year, he replaced Holmgren with Banner. Holmgren spent his last day with the organization Nov. 30. ?Mike?s entitled to his opinion,? Banner said Friday morning on ESPN Radio?s Mike and Mike. ?He ran the team for three years and was able to do what he believed in. It?s our turn trying to do what we think is right. Obviously, we wouldn?t have done this if we agreed with his comments.? Banner defended the trade by explaining that the new regime reconstructed the defense in its first offseason, and now it?s laying the groundwork to do the same with the offense next year. With 10 draft picks, including two in the first, third and fourth rounds, the Browns have ammunition to assist in their expected pursuit of a quarterback. Fujita, who spent last season with the Browns before retiring, believes the team might have gotten a little worse in the short term, but their future is ?a whole lot brighter? after the trade. Fujita also suggested Richardson?s attitude might have been a factor in the deal. ?I can?t speculate about what?s in any one person?s head, but when a player enters the league wearing headphones incessantly, shows up late for [medical] treatments, and makes little effort to engage with his teammates, he can quickly develop a reputation for being insular and high-maintenance,? Fujita wrote. Fujita wrote his sense tells him that the Browns sent a message by making the trade ? ?If you don?t buy in, you don?t belong on this team.?
In my post above I said I heard 3 guys talking about this very thing a couple day's ago. They mentioned losing Mack, trading Haden, Little, Rubin,Ward and Thomas. Personally I would like to keep Haden, Mack and Thomas for that matter. But Mathew's and Lewan from Michigan, All-American tackles, can do the job. But you have to take them early they wont last long as tackles usually don't. If I could get a top 5/6 pick for Thomas I would think about it. Haden I wouldn't think of trading and Mack I would try to resign. Rubin,Ward and Little are trade bait. Get what I can for them. Ward is injury prone, isn't that good in coverage and not the run stuffer I thought he was coming out of college. There is depth at SS and WR in this draft. Thomas, Mack and Haden would be the hardest to replace. Pro bowlers in my eyes. But the rest don't let the door knob hit you were the good lord split you. TALENT that's what Haden, Thomas and Mack are. I would like to keep them and add to them. Lets just hope Banner and Lombardi know what they are doing. Last year I would of out drafted them with Warmack and Honey badger. Talent and position of need. Perfect combo. This draft they have to do that. QB, RB,G,WR and FS. Same at center if they lose Mack, same with tackle if they trade Thomas, same with SS if they trade Ward. TALENT!!!!!! Talent will trump scheme. The Brown's lack talent right now and for the last 14 years yes 14 years. The time to finally change that is right now, fellas. A toast and a round on me in the DPL.
Happy game day fellas! Time to get a new subject for discussion this week...Wouldn't it be great to get back on track of figuring out how to get them to 10 wins THIS year? All it takes is that one win early in the season to change all perspective. GO BROWNS!! *DRINK* have one (or 5) on me today!!
WOOF WOOF WOOF GAMEDAY *BRAVO* Time to unleash those Houndz I am over the T Rich trade .I see the method to there madness ..as long as they pick the right players  Lets goooo Browns ruin the Vikings home opener ..starting to see a pattern here of us playing teams for there home opener . at least that part of the schedule ends today . *DRINK*
After the Browns traded running back Trent Richardson last week, it wouldn?t be surprising if they continue to wheel and deal. The Browns are fielding trade offers and are open to dealing wide receivers Josh Gordon and Greg Little, ESPN?s Adam Schefter reported this morning. At least one team has made a quality offer for Gordon, according to the report. ESPN contributor Adam Caplan reported that Gordon has been on the trade block for several weeks and that it?s very clear Browns CEO Joe Banner wants him out. Gordon will make his 2013 regular-season debut today when the Browns (0-2) face the Minnesota Vikings (0-2) at the Metrodome. Gordon missed the first two games this season while serving a suspension for violating the NFL?s substance-abuse policy. Little will play today, but he won?t start. Browns coach Rob Chudzinski demoted Little primarily for his poor performances on the field ? he dropped two passes in each of the first two games. Little also has had a slew of recent traffic violations. Schefter also reported today that the Browns covet Houston Texans running back Ben Tate, who is scheduled to become a free agent in March. On Wednesday, the Browns traded Richardson, the third overall pick in last year?s draft, to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a first-round pick. After dealing Richardson, Banner didn?t rule out making other trades. ?I don?t anticipate that happening,? Banner said Friday on ESPN Radio?s Mike and Mike. ?But if you?d asked me a week ago did we expect to trade Trent, I would?ve said no. I don?t think that will happen, and that isn?t the plan or agenda right now.? In the wake of the Richardson trade, Browns Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas said he thought virtually every play on the roster, including himself, could be dealt by the new regime. Several teams have inquired about dealing for Thomas, but the Browns have told them that he?s not on the trading block, NFL Network?s Michael Silver reported today.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin is active and expected to start at left defensive end today against the Minnesota Vikings. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- After missing the first two games of the 2013 regular season because of a calf injury, Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin is active and expected to start today against the Minnesota Vikings at Mall of America Field at the H.H.H. Metrodome. Rubin is expected to start at left defense end. The sixth-year pro has registered 267 total tackles -- including 177 solo stops -- and nine sacks for 66.5 lost yards in 73 career games with the Browns since being selected out of Iowa State University in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. In addition to Rubin, the Browns have two changes to their starting lineup on offense. Quarterback Brian Hoyer will start for Brandon Weeden, who is inactive because of a sprained right thumb that occurred in last week?s 14-6 loss at the Baltimore Ravens. Oniel Cousins will go at right guard in place of Shawn Lauvao, who is missing his third straight game with an ankle injury suffered in training camp. The Browns have deactivated Weeden, Lauvao, linebacker Quentin Groves, offensive linemen Patrick Lewis and Martin Wallace, tight end Keavon Milton and defensive lineman Armonty Bryant. The Vikings will be without the services of quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, tight end Rhett Ellison, safety Mistral Raymond, linebacker Gerald Hodges, guard Jeff Baca, defensive tackle Chase Baker, and defensive end George Johnson. Minnesota has made no changes to its starting lineup.
Little will play today, but he won?t start. Browns coach Rob Chudzinski demoted Little primarily for his poor performances on the field ? he dropped two passes in each of the first two games. Little also has had a slew of recent traffic violations. *BRAVO*
Would it surprise any if Little lined up as a running back some time today? He started out as a RB in college and wouldn't have to catch a pass.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Lions "quickly rebuffed" trade overtures from the Colts last week regarding Mikel Leshoure. Leshoure has been a healthy scratch for each of Detroit's first three games. Colts GM Ryan Grigson reportedly also called the Vikings about Toby Gerhart before settling on sending a first-round pick to the Browns for Trent Richardson. It's interesting that the Lions were opposed to dealing Leshoure. Perhaps they'll change their minds when Reggie Bush's knee is back to 100 percent.
Brian Hoyer looks like a legitimate NFL QB. I can't wait to see how the Weeden apologists and Banner/Lombardi haters spin this.
