The Browns are being extra cautious with Garrett, and that's the smart way to go....Rushing him into action during a May mini-camp, when he's not 100%, would be senseless.... Coleman can't get a damn break...That's already his second significant career injury sustained during non contact practice drills... *DONT_KNOW* ...That one hurts. My concerns about our WR group are well documented....At least it was ribs, and not a knee injury or something worse.
SAS, your a smart guy I wuld think.....NOBODY is giving up a late 1st round pick for Brock "stiff" Osweiler lol
Thank you. I said/thought the same thing about Sam Bradford, but a desperate team (with an already established franchise QB) gave up a first and fourth round pick for him. The result is Minnesota under-performed (went 7-8 with Bradford, 11-5 the year before with Bridgewater). But essentially, Minny gave up two mid-round selections for a guy who gave them Cody Kessler (16 game) output: 395 of 552 (71.6 percent), 3,877 yard (7.0 YPA), 20 TDs (3.6 rate), 5 INTs (0.9 rate), QB rating of 99.3 and a losing record as a starter (7-8) Brock, who actually was sought-after by two teams with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations (one having just won one), is probably capable of somewhat similar numbers - obviously less efficient and less accurate. And while I'm reticent to bring up his name again so soon, Garfloppolo was on the market for, what? No. 1 overall, another first rounder, and a few mid-round picks? For six quarters worth of play? It seems the one truth about QBs in the NFL is you can toss out smarts and intelligence when trying to predict what will happen and/or what they're worth.
I'm just glad it wasn't the medicine ball Coleman fell on . He'd be out for the year. Kid toughen up dammit .
The additions of McCourty and Pryor, along with the trading of Demario Davis, might not be anything to "write home" about, but they are notable improvements for the Browns defense. We are getting better. Also, it seems the moves are indicators that Gregg Williams intends to install a 4-2-5 defensive alignment, with Jabrill Peppers as the extra DB. I think we will see it quite a bit, where the only Linebackers on the field are Collins and Kirksey, and Peppers will be the extra defensive back in the "joker" roll, moving all over the place to attack the opponent's weakness....When we do go to traditional 4-3 defensive set, word is, expect to see Tank Carder get the playing time... With our new look defensive line, I'm really excited about the possibilities of our defense taking a giant leap up the rankings chart....I know I should probably temper expectations, but when ya add talent like Garrett to the edge rush, and bring in a coach like Gregg Williams, I think it's okay to be fired up about the way things are trending.
Locking up Christian Kirksey for 4 more years was a great move. As horribly as Ray Farmer screwed up the first round in 2014, I gotta give him credit for his 2nd and 3rd round selections that year, with Joel Bitonio and Christian Kirksey. Obviously he didn't screw up everything, because those are key players that we have made major investments in.....Also bringing in Isaiah Crowell should be credited to Farmer....It's hard to look past Manziel and Gilbert, and of course that's why Farmer got fired, but he did find us a few good players among the colossal blunders.
We are definitely moving in the right direction! I feel excitement in the air. I hope to see a noticeable step forward this season, I am not concerned with win total so much.
Tough call on this one...at 29, he should still have some left in the tank. However, with the group of young guys we have, I'd like to get them all extra reps so that we get a better understanding of what they are for the future.
I can understand your point of view, but . . . . Not all of those wide receiver pups can realistically be in the Browns' future. Hell, one of them can't stay healthy! What's wrong with using what gas is left in Maclin's tank and trying to pick up a few wins now? #tiredoflosing
The switch to the 4-3 and Myles Garrett is good news for Emmanuel Ogbah Fred Greetham Yesterday at 5:00 PM Emmanuel Ogbah might benefit the most from the move to a 4-3 defense--not to mention the addition of top pick Myles Garrett BEREA, Ohio--Arguably, Emmanuel Ogbah might have been the most productive draft choice for the Browns in 2016. He also might be the player who benefits the most to the switch to a 4-3 base defense under defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. It also doesn't hurt that the No. 1 overall pick should draw a lot of attention away from Ogbah on the other side of the defensive line.? Ogbah, 24, said he's excited to settle in at defensive end after starting his NFL career last year switching to outside linebacker. ?Oh yeah, definitely," Ogbah said at OTA's last Wednesday. "That has been my bread and butter since high school and college. I am excited with the defense.? Ogbah said he had to make an adjustment playing in the 3-4 alignment last season. ?Definitely since I was inside in the 3-4," he said. "Now, I am outside. I am just excited that now I am in a position that I am comfortable in and used to.? Ogbah played defensive end in the 4-3 at Oklahoma State. Ogbah (6-4, 275) led the Browns with 5.5 sacks. However, he started the first seven games at outside linebacker before switching to defensive end in the 3-4 for the final nine games. He played his best football in the second half of the season after switching back to end. Ogbah had 53 and three passes broken up after being the Browns second-round pick (32nd overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft.? Ogbah spent the off-season trying to improve his pass rushing techniques. ?Pass rush. I did a lot of pass rushing," he said. "I did a lot of weights and just perfected my craft. ?Like I said, that is why I spent this offseason working on my pass rush," he said. "I feel like I really only had a one or two-move cut and developed a lot more moves to get after the quarterback more effectively to help the team win more games." By the way, the projected other defensive end to Ogbah is the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Myles Garrett. Ogbah is excited to play opposite of Garrett and thinks the attention he draws will open up more opportunities for him. ?It will definitely benefit everybody on the D line," Ogbah said. "Myles is a great athlete and a good football player. Definitely, they are going to have eyes on him and give the rest of us a chance to make plays.?
It looks like Buffalo might have the early advantage in the Maclin pursuit.... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-taylor-joins-recruitment-of-wr-jeremy-maclin
Buffalo needs receivers but recently declined the fifth year's option on Watkins. That was because of his injury history. So, go get a guy with a major injury history. I guess it comes down to term and guarantees for Maclin. If he stays healthy then it'll be great. Big if.
Tank recognize tank. [twitter=https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/status/872474335205871616][/twitter]
Read the article. Why's he whining about not signing Gould as a kicker? The Browns weren't spending any money last year and went with the cheaper option. Sure, it could look like purposely tanking but again, they weren't spending money on any free agents. And it was only a kicker!!!! Kickers aren't gonna make this team (or any other) 10-6 any time soon. Maybe a bit of the old "sour grapes" since he got the boot and Hue didn't? Hue's in the midst of a total re-build. Polian was at the end of a nice run of years and couldn't keep the stable full. I can see not going all out to get a win or two more for the season, but it wasn't a total tank job. You want to tank a season, you can find a way to go 0-16.
Not at all like a front office that starts Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky in lieu of a Chad Pennington or Carson Palmer. And a lot of folks thought so. Polian's probably mad the Browns are getting the credit and he didn't.
