Williams always wanted to join the Dawg Pound Fred Greetham Friday at 8:19 PM Browns new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said he's always wanted to be a part of the Dawg Pound BEREA, Ohio--Gregg Williams has had a secret wish for some time.? Ever since he used to come to Cleveland as an assistant on the coaching staff of Jerry Glenville with the Houston Oilers, Williams has said he wanted to a part of the Dawg Pound.? ?My last thing before I open it up is that back a long time ago in the late ?80s early ?90s, is when I got in the league, I have been hit from the Dawg Pound with transistor batteries, size D and C batteries, dog biscuits, dog bones, beer cans, beer bottles and I can?t wait to be on their side now," Williams said. ?"I say that with respect. I love them. I love the fact that when I came into the stadium, about how loud they were, how much fun they had coming to the games and how much they loved the Cleveland Browns." Williams says one of his goals is to get the defense back to the days when the Dawg Pound and FirstEnergy Stadium does provide a true home field advantage. "When we have home field advantage it is because we can flat play some defense," Williams said. "Everybody came to watch that defense rock and roll. You have a home field advantage when your defense is dominant because when the offense is out there, Hue (Jackson) is going to tell all of you people to shut up. People, offensively, you want that communication going on, verbal, and everything to be on the same page. "Smart crowds and home crowds get that and allow the offense to operate and cheer when they operate at a high level," he said. "But defensively, I don?t care if they ever are quiet. I have been in stadiums and coached on teams that we have been so good on defense that the coach to the middle linebacker communication did not work and I have assistants that have to signal the plays in because you?ll see this, when the Mike linebacker touches his facemask, he can?t here because the crowd is so loud. He can?t here so we have to hand signal the play in." Williams said his goal is to make the Browns defense so strong that the Dawg Pound will return to its?former?days of glory. "That?s what we want here," Williams said. "I can?t wait to hang out and be with the Dawg Pound and a lot of them reached out already. I promise I will reach out too when we trot out on the field to have a chance to play here.?
I don'the know which was/is more enjoyable. Watching the AFCCG last night or reading the game thread and Good, Bad and Ugly thread this morning over on the Yinzer's board.
Browns signed LB Jamie Collins to a four-year, $50 million contract through 2020. The deal had been in the works for days but finally became official on Monday. Collins' new contract calls for $26 million in guaranteed money. "Jamie was great to have in our building this season, and we look forward to him being a Cleveland Brown for a number of years to come," said Browns Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown. Collins had been in the last year of his rookie contract, which prompted his mid-season trade from New England. He's now the fourth highest-paid linebacker on an annual basis behind Von Miller, Justin Houston and Clay Matthews.
Well it wasn't an option but I'm going with a write-in vote... Guaranteeing 26M to a guy who was losing snaps to Elandon Roberts and Kyle Van Noy.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Browns are "very likely" to place the franchise tag on Terrelle Pryor. After locking up Jamie Collins to a long-term contract, Pryor is the next order of business for Cleveland. La Canfora believes it "would be crazy" for Pryor to sign a contract right now, suggesting he thinks the receiver will cash in as a free agent, but Pryor has already told his agents he wants to stay in Cleveland. It is not out of the question the two sides work out a deal. The tag should be worth north of $15 million for receivers in 2017.
Oh, you mean only the 4th guy in the history of the NFL to accumulate 10 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions in his first four years in the league...Only FOUR players in the history of the league... You mean THAT guy? Don't worry beach, you can rest easy knowing you will get to face THAT guy twice a year over the next 4 years.
I have 2 agree w beach...Collins being the 4th highest paid LB is stealing on his behalf...I'm sure he will b coasting this offseason...off the top of my head...Miller, Barr, Mack, Timmons, Lee, Keuchly, Mosely and Wagner(from Seattle) mayb wrong name
For the routine "piss in the Cheerios" crowd, Collins' market value (as estimated by Sportrac) was $11.7 million per year. He is going to make $12.5 million per year under this new deal. That's only 6.8% above market... not bad for a small market 1-15 organization without a franchise QB or many (any) playmakers. If we can sign guys for only ~7% above market, I'd say we're doing pretty well. Link: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/jamie-collins-12333/market-value/ As far as where he ranks... per PFF.com, he was 11th best linebacker (regardless of scheme/position) in 2014 and 7th best in 2015. Link: https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-how-significant-is-loss-of-jamie-collins-to-patriots-defense/ In 2016 on an atrocious defense, he obviously took a hit (didn't help he changed positions, too). He was graded as the 14th best OLB and would have graded as the 13th best ILB. Haha, was just coming on to "report" this... So, would the Steelers be players in the QB fiasco, if this is even close to becoming a real thing?
Drama queen . he would lose 46 mill or something like that if he walled away . now I also read that Brown may be on the trading block ?? maybe there tired of his antics and diva attitude ?? we won 1 game last year and aren't near as dysfunctional as some teams who won more . Stay Tuned this could get interesting *SHADES*
