    Yes.

Perhaps not with the intention to get #1 overall because I'm certain that the F/O knows as well as anyone else that no QB this year is worth it, but with at least a Top 3 pick in mind.

Again, there's a difference between trying to lose and trying not to win. This regime set the team up for limited to no success in 2016. They took a 3-13 team, let good veterans walk, released older veterans, and started more rookies than any team in the past half decade.

They began the year deliberately trying not to win.

Like I said, I think the goal was "Top 3" and when the 0-16 was looking very real, the team pulled out whatever it could to try and scratch out a win.

I think you could feel around the Week 10 game against Baltimore when they yanked Cody Kessler that they were pressing just trying to win a football game.

1-15 feels and looks better than 0-16 and costs you, at worst, one spot on draft day.

The Colts absolutely did it in 2011 to get Andrew Luck.

Losing wears on people. You could see and hear it in Hue Jackson as the season wore on. Did he want to lose? No. But did he want to not win? Maybe.

You don't call a screen pass on first and goal from the two in OT against a fast defense if you're trying to win. You don't pull your promising rookie QB in a winnable game for a broken veteran if you're trying to win. You don't go for it on fourth down from your side of the field and convert, only to not go for it on their side of the field and chose instead to punt when you're behind and your defense is garbage if you're trying to win.

I would bet money on it being Myles Garrett.

The only QB's worth #1 overall this year are still draft ineligible. The options we have are deeply-flawed and projections at best.

I think this regime knows it has a longer leash than the regimes of the past.

Pete Carroll didn't find Russell Wilson until his third year coaching there. They built the cockpit for a QB, just like the Chiefs did with Alex Smith or the Broncos.

If Chicago or New York wants to move ahead of San Fran for a guy not named Myles, I'd take the call.

And you can build a defense in a year or two. An offense takes much, much longer.

Plus Blake Bortles is hot garbage.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love Cody Kessler. I think he can play.

That job is custom-tailored for Josh McDaniels who'll happily trade with the Pats and bring Jimmy Garoppolo with him.

So let it be written... so let it be done.

Hopefully this is a non story, as Coleman has publicly stated he wasn't there when this incident took place...

  3. SAS, u really want 2 franchise Pryor and make him one of the highest paid WRs in football...why not do that w Collins who has a track record?

  4. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Pryor may be the easier of the two to sign an outright contract, which would leave the tag for Collins if he doesn't sign.

  5. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

I would rather sign Collins to a contract because, as you say, he's got a Pro Bowl on his resume and has been productive for several seasons.

I still believe in Pryor - I know you're not wild about him - but I think franchising him and let him prove he isn't/wasn't a one-year wonder.

If they sign Pryor and tag Collins, that works too. Sign 'em both, just get it done. Someone told me today that they're projecting almost $100 million in cap space. I haven't verified that number, but if true, there is no reason to not proceed with all your free agents who're worth keeping.

  6. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

There is $107M in cap space in 2017...but keep in mind that includes $50M in cap carryover from 2016. That money won't be available in 2018, so pay your signing bonuses in cash money and move on with usable contracts going forward!

He's a Baylor man...Surely he wouldn't be involved in anything of this nature. @=

    Draft Corey Davis!

  10. TopDawg Legend

Corey is a stud....I know we drafted a bunch of WR's last year, but what production did we get out of them? Who's impressed with Rashard Higgins, Ricardo Lewis and Jordan Payton ?

My early speculation: He won't be there at #12, but if he is, I think an easy case can be made. A trio of Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman and Corey Davis would be a headache for defensive coordinators. Obviously we have many needs, but that's fun to think about. Every secondary would have to respect that....

  11. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

I put this in another thread, but the non-Coleman numbers for our rookies?

    25 catches, 285 yards (11.4 YPC), 0 TDs

Even Coleman was a pedestrian 33 catches, 413 yards (12.5 YPC), 3 TDs in 10 games. More concerning, a 45.2 percent catch rate.

Then there's some consternation around whether Pryor is a true #1 WR. If Coleman was the #1 and got the same number of looks as Pryor (140 targets), for a full season, he'd have finished with: 63 catches, 787 yards, 5 TDs. Coleman's been a wide receiver for a decade... Pryor for about 10 months.

At the end of the day, none of the WR on the roster are a slam-dunk, but Davis could very well be our A.J. Green.

If there are a run on QBs in the Top 10, I wholly support drafting Davis. I'm with you, though, that if QB's drop, Davis is gone in the Top 10.

    JUST HEARD A REPORT:

BROWNS FIRING RAY HORTON AS DC!!

Update, reportedly, Greg Williams and Wade Philips have been contacted about the position.

    Who do you want loungers?

  15. If they get Williams they better take DBs at #1 and #12 cause he blitzes like crazy and leaves his guys on an island..I don't think he's a good fit w this defense and their present back end

I'd love to have Wade Phillips, but he may be in line for the HC job in Denver.

  17. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Sounds like Gregg Williams is the guy. Big implications with that hire as he's been a 4-3 base guy his whole career.

    Position changes coming?

I'd say, if true, we might be spending #1 on Myles and #12 on a corner. As stopper says, he blitzes. A lot.

  18. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Man, this is a tough call now...In a 4-3 Myles Garrett becomes a bigger threat imho... BUT, in a 4-3 Ogbah AND Nassib become much more valuable also at DE . It is the natural position for both of them and we also have Cam Johnson(3 sacks in rotation in 2016) to rotate in. With Shelton inside, who would be beside him? I imagine Desmond Bryant, but would he be as intimidating as Jonathan Allen? Not only that but at age 31 coming off a major injury, how much does he have left? Xavier Cooper is the only other guy on this roster that can be effective inside, imho and I think he is a rotational guy.

Man, I seriously don't know on this one. This team would need LOTS of help though, so if the Bears DO make a call to move up for their QB, I take a 2nd, 4th and a 2018 2nd and make the move, give them #1 overall and a 2018 3rd.

Who ever is left standing at #3 overall, base the draft around that man...Hell the 49ers might also take a QB, Kaepernick the only QB on the roster currently and his cap in 2017 is $19.3M if he is still on the roster April 1st...it's only $2.6M if he's not...The new coach might have a stipulation that he gets to pick the QB @ #2 in the draft in order to sign.

The only disagreement I have with you is that we would absolutely HAVE to have a ball hawking safety, no questions asked, it would be top priority #1. Might even have to trade up to #5-6 to grab Malik Hooker, he is EXACTLY the type of safety you look for in a Williams defense and possibly the only type we need in the draft that can make a drastic impact..without that type of safety, this defense will fail hard and often. There are a lot of run support safeties in this draft, including probably the best safety in Is there one in free agency? Here's a statistic for you, the Browns had 10 INTs, 23rd in the league...Of the 10, NONE were made by safeties, all 10 were CBs, Haden, Taylor and Boddy-Calhoun each had 3 and Williams had 1. Safety is possibly our greatest NEED on this team. You don't bypass a Garrett or Allen out of need, but trading up to get one like Hooker is prudent.

We would have to re-sign Jamie Collins to play Sam, Kirksey at Will...would like an upgrade at Mike, right now you are looking at Demario Davis and I don't know if I trust him there. Need depth at all three positions..

  19. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

If the switch to 4-3 is a reality, how much more likely would it be that the Browns opt to trade down from #1 (I'm looking at the #6 from the Jets and a healthy return)?

  20. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Not sure I want to drop that far, I would still want Garrett or Allen. I really believe the Bears will want their QB pick and move on from Cutler.

Honestly, I think it will be a big decision for Trubisky if he stays or declares.
