Forgotten but hardly gone, the rebate scandal arising at the truck-stop company owned and operated by the family of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam could still create serious legal problems for him. Via the Associated Press, Haslam has received a subpoena commanding him to testify via videotaped deposition on December 13. The request arises from the civil lawsuit filed and pursued by companies that chose not to participate in the settlement that quickly was reacted in response to a nationwide class action aimed at obtaining rebates that were promised but not provided. Haslam has the right to fight the subpoena. Folks who run major corporations usually do, in order to avoid having to answer questions under oath. Beyond the usual resistance by executives to submit to any authority other than their own is the reality that Haslam could potentially face criminal jeopardy for the scheme that has resulted in various lower-level employees pleading guilty to federal charges. Given that reality, Haslam would be entitled to assert the right against self-incrimination in response to questions posed during the deposition, if it proceeds. And that would be a very bad look for Haslam and the NFL, creating the distinct impression that he has something to hide. The other alternative for Haslam would be to roll the dice and waive the privilege. However, anything he says in the civil lawsuit can and will be used against him in criminal court, if/when prosecutors decide to pursue charges.
Cheers Lounge Houndz! *DRINK* Been trying to catch up on all the happenings around here. As the checks in the L column grow in number and the W column remains blank fan frustration continues to grow. Many of us knew this was going to be a rough season, though perhaps we didn't feel that it would be 0-10, staring at 0-16, rough. *HELP* I do think that given the young roster and the gutting and rebuilding they have initiated that Hue is trying to do too much with the players he has been given. Injuries and youth have definitely taken it's toll on the Browns this year. IMHO Hue needs to "dumb down" the play book and focus more on the basic principles(and perhaps fundamentals) of the offense and defense. As the players master the basics then Hue would be able to incorporate more schemes and variations. Same goes for Horton's complex hybrid defense. Which, IMO should just be scrapped. I'm still not sure what measuring stick they are using to determine success, but it isn't showing up on the field, at least from what I've seen. *REF*
Never fear Lounge Houndz, once your at the bottom the only way to go is up.... Here's to things looking up *SHADES* *DRINK*
The New England Patriots went to San Francisco without tight end Rob Gronkowski because he?s injured. They went there without defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard because they currently don?t think he?s very good. Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Sheard was left behind for performance reasons. The New England defense has struggled of late, particularly in the front seven. The situation has prompted criticism of coach Bill Belichick for his decisions to trade Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. As noted after Sunday night?s loss to the Seahawks, Sheard had been more scarce recently, with the Patriots taking a longer look at Trey Flowers, a fifth-round pick in 2015
Tomorrow is the first game with any weather . I remember when Hue had QB'S throw wet balls prior to the draft . Lets hope Kesseler can throw a wet ball . lets hope the O Line can open some holes . my kinda game . wet muddy snowy perfect Browns weather . get the smash mouth game going !
Get the Crow going in the running game....We will have shots in that leaky Pittsburgh secondary if we can establish the run a bit...The Steelers have lost 4 in a row. It's not like they are coming in here full of confidence. They can be had. Who wants it more???
Steelers at Browns Steelers: WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, S Shamarko Thomas, RB DeAngelo Williams Browns: QB Joe Callahan, QB Kevin Hogan, CB Tramon Williams, LB Corey Lemonier, OL Gabe Ikard, OL Jonathan Cooper, WR Jordan Payton
Instead of making fun of this team Im now starting to feel just sad. This team doesn't belong on the same field with half of these real NFL teams. This is as painful to watch as the 1999 season. Missed tackles, non blocking, bad play calling and just not any real talent. Pryor has impressed, Johnson has shown something but after that not really that much HEART. This team has no heart. Im watching Joe Thomas get abused like he did on that flea flicker. Where is the TE at? Didnt Jackson last year throw a lot to Eifert? The defense is getting beat up. Again NO HEART! Haden well is being Haden. This team is just out manned just about every week. I think it was either Top Dog or Irish that said the Browns are building a base. I can agree with that statement now. This is a very plain football team. You can see the lack of impact players on this team. Right now Im sticking to my guns and saying the Browns need impact players. Difference makers. On both sides of the ball. The stadium is very empty for this game against the Steelers. No doubt the tickets were bought but people didn't show. What a shame! Those fans should buy Indians tickets instead. Go watch a championship caliber team. No matter what Big Ben says. This is no longer Browns town. Its the Kings kingdom. No offense at all. Very vanilla!
Just like 99 and Tim Couch this line is getting our QBs killed. Down again goes Kessler. Still think we don't need lineman?
Speaking of QBs I read on numerous sites that the Browns were considering staying at #1 and taking Mentors and North Carolina's QB Mitch Trubisky. He is big and can toss the pea a little bit. Grew up throwing off the shores of Lake Erie. Now that Im thinking about it, I like that pick.
Hue is a fucking MORON ..Not one screen or draw to slow down the rush . Erving ..sorry Irish is a fucking window licker who need CUT sooner rather than later . Fucking garbage .. 0-16 and they deserve it
Just asking...who on the OL was good in this game? They gave up 8 sacks and other numerous hits.......Kessler w another concussion(may have a short career w 2 already) and McCown was sent flying 5 ft in the air.....this OL is AWFUL whether its Erving or any other guy....they may have 2 spend both their pick and Philly pick on OL
