The TD on the fake FG at 2:05 would have been over turned if they had replay back in those days. Dude had both knees down at the 1-yd line.
Top Dawg kind of hinted at this, but I would like us to discuss the elephant in the room: I'm beginning to think that maybe Hue Jackson isn't the Head Coaching savior he was hyped up to be. Your thoughts or am I marooned on an island with Els and Slopper?
Honestly Lym, I have no idea... This team from front office to owner to coaching staff were together at the beginning of the year in thinking...Start over from scratch. This roster is akin to an expansion team, with a couple of Pro Bowlers thrown in for good measure. Until they mature and start to fill in some holes, I don't think it is fair to judge Jackson honestly. All he has done this far into his Browns tenure is deal with playing 5 different QBs due to injuries (including a different starter for each of the first 3 weeks), 3 centers due to injuries and flat out bad play, 2 left guards due to injury, RG and RT have had multiple combinations due to injuries, used a QB turned WR as his main weapon, due to injuries and suspension... Yet, they hold the #6 spot for yards per rush currently...so we have that to look forward to. In fact, if not for the team playing from behind the last 5 games, this team was actually one of the top rushing teams in the NFL. Playing catch up constantly has taken that away, but it is definitely better than what we have seen the past decade or better. Defensively, very young roster, but I am not happy just how bad Ray Horton has this team playing...especially in the second half. Coach of the future? I think he gets an incomplete based on the roster he has had to deal with year one. I would really like to see at least one win in 2016 though... Besides, the Browns still have a chance to win the division...only 5 games back with 6 games to go.
As much as I dislike the notion, maybe the team has decided to tank it. The 49'ers only have one win. It would be just like the Browns to win one game and lose on tie breakers and get saddled with the #2 pick. Can't say that I really believe it, but the front office does have a proclivity for stock piling draft picks and the losses have snowballed. Aside from that, though, how many of these younger guys have kind of checked out for the year? The team has it's problems with injury and depth and you have to believe that morale just sucks. That's on the coaches but how many "win one for the Gipper" speeches can a team hear before they just mail it in anyway? Gotta agree with Irish that the roster isn't there to make a complete call on this. I haven't been a fan of Horton since the last time he was here. And the last time he was here, he had the same lousy talent level when a new staff was hired and player turn over commenced. Hue Jackson is in the same boat - lack of overall talent and depth. Have I seen enough to say the coaches have done a good job? No. Have I seen some stupid calls? Yes. That can be said of any of the "loser" teams at top of the Loss column. I'm not happy with the coaches or players. It's a complete breakdown everywhere. It just has to be said again....this is Year 1 of a complete and total rebuild that Haslam has said will receive enough time to show what can be done (if it's allowed to run its course). Whether Haslam can stay true to this and let things go for 3, 4, or 5 years without blowing it up again remains to be seen. I can't give a pass/fail on anything about this team....coaches, players, front office, or owner/s. It's just gonna require some patience and at least two more full seasons to truly see where this is heading.
I don't want to hit the reset button again. We would be losing this year even if Bill Belichick was our coach. There just isn't enough talent on the field yet, particularly at the game's most important position. The defensive secondary is a disaster, and we all knew this season was not gonna be pretty....I've always figured that the two most important pieces to a successful football team are the head coach and the quarterback. We might have a coach, but we KNOW we don't have a QB yet, at least not one that is ready to lead this team to victories. Therefore, it's impossible to accurately grade out our coach IMO. He needs time. I know Browns fans are sick of hearing that, but it's a fact....Yes, I've been critical of some of Hue Jackson's late game decisions, and if we were in a playoff hunt, you can bet that I would have cranked up the volume on that. But the reality is, this is a total rebuild. If we had won the game in Miami (the one i was most critical of our coach about), would it really matter? I'm hoping that our coach is learning from these experiences, and when we get our roster up to par, there will be some value in going through the tough times...Forget about tanking. That's not happening. If we were tanking, Jackson wouldn't have tried for the spark with McCown the other night....This team desperately wants a win. They don't want to match Detroit for worst team ever, I'm certain of that....
You are definately not stranded on the island of misfit Browns fans Lyman...i think we have every right to question some of the decisions made by our coach....He's not above it. He's a football coach. It comes with the territory.... I like Hue. I like his enthusiasm and resolve....I like that he specializes in QB's, and that the players like and respect him. There are plenty of reasons for Browns fans to remain optimistic about Hue Jackson...A lot of people were down on him about benching Cody the other night, but in my opinion it was absolutely warranted. My main concerns stem from a few late game decisions that I thought were highly questionable, and a few play calls that seemed bizarre....But I got over it. We obviously aren't ready to take on the heavyweights of this league, so I want to see them stick with the plan for at least 3 years....If we still aren't competing by 2018, I'm sure I'll be calling for his firing...
The coaching is not the problem. Its TALENT! Take Jackson. Does this team have a Daulton at QB? Do the Browns have an A.J. Green type WR? No on both accounts. The line is terrible here. Cinncy has a better line. This team needs IMPACT PLAYERS! You cant keep passing on Bosa, Evans, Carr and Staley every year. Or Kelvin Benjamin, Jordon Matthews and Zeke Elliot. The Browns could of had some of those players. I would rather of had any of those players besides Coleman, Nassib and Manziel. The Browns drafted for depth this year. Coleman will be a good 3rd, slot WR. Pryor is talented but raw and please just give up on Gordon already. The Browns need to go out and draft or sign a real #1 WR. As a fading Browns fan I would rather watch Bosa or Elliot than Cloeman. That has nothing to do with being a Buckeye honk. Its talent! They were the best players at their positions in the country. IMPACT PLAYERS! But the Browns are trying to lower salary ($30m under cap) and draft for depth. This year Myles Garrett from T A&M is coming out. The Browns could of had Bosa and Garrett on the ends of their line but they will trade that #1 pick down to save money and keep building depth. How has that worked out? 0-10, laughing stock and no one to get excited about on this team. Its time to get this beaten down fan base excited about what you are doing. Right now the fans think your being cheap. They are now thinking of Haslam like Dolan but people here love football so they buy tickets. How long are people going to keep shelling out $4500 a year for an embarrassing showing team? The Browns need to spend some of that money on IMPACT PLAYERS! Quit trying to catch lighting in a bottle. This year is breaking the camels back. Haslam is trying to break your wallets also.
Didn't your post just a few pages back list your priorities that the Browns needed to do and at the top of the list was a good O-line? (And I'll admit I'm just too lazy and tired of the usual rant to go take a peek.) Now we're on to impact players? Screw it. Went and looked it up...... And back to where I was before....... Now we're on to impact players? Just taking a quick scan of your list of needs and this post that I'm responding to, it appears you're pretty much covering just about every roster position. Have you paid attention to your lists or are you just ranting endlessly? Doesn't take much to gather that this roster needs an infusion of talent and depth which would go hand-in-hand with the fact that it's the first year of a total rebuild. Not too hard to verify that this is the route that the team from the owner on down said that they were going to go........... About the only couple of positions you haven't hit on yet have been RB, KR/PR, punter and K. Looking forward to your next couple of rants................ *DRINK*
lmao! I was just gonna let it go Doug....I mean, you know, at least he didn't call us all suckers or blind idiots in that last post, right?....baby steps....I do really love how he constantly goes right down the list of rookie superstars, and then informs us all exactly who we "should" have taken in the draft. smh....it's just uncanny insight. My 12 year old is a little better at that, but Els is gettin there....
Hue has reached the apex of frustration. The team is poised to fall apart, and the look on his face Sunday, was of a man who doesn't know where to turn next. Can he keep the team fighting, and learning? I don't know, but the test is now through the end of the season. It is very dissappointing to hear that the Slams are getting involved in football decisions. That cannot be good for the team, and may lead to Hue walking, if he feels there is no support, or actual organization behind him. Can it get worse? Wait don't answer that.
My bad the Browns are $48m under the cap as NBC sports reported. When you read non Browns fans comment they really do just laugh at the Browns. Yes the Browns fans are lap dogs. Loyal to a fault. Why change being a laughing stock when Haslam makes millions through the "PUPPY POUND"! There is no excuse for how terrible this team is. I figured they would of won a game by now. I guess not. Chit the stadium is full along with Haslams pockets. Which means the NFL is happy along with Haslam. Why WIN? or be respectable for that matter, lol Early draft prediction. Browns take a div. III Kicker with the 1st pick. That will go right along with the rest of the "NEW BROWNS" draft history. If they are going to continue playing like clowns then yes I will laugh at them. Hey Derek Carr is on ESPN! Woulda, Coulda and Shoulda! Hey JIMMY where the hell is your boy Johnny Drunk? Hows the homeless man doing? HAHAHAHA OUTTY!
What non-Browns fans are you reading? And they just laugh at Cleveland!? I'm one of them. Perhaps it's because I'm a Bills fan, but I have never laughed at Browns fan. In fact, I come to this board to read what Browns fans have to say because - for the most part - they're astute and passionate fans. I come here to gain insights from one of the best fan bases in the NFL. Laugh at you!? No, it's not possible to laugh at those you respect. Are the Browns losers? Well that's a rhetorical question if there ever was one. But it is, at least to me, the mark of a great fan to maintain passion despite so many heartaches. I am not a Browns fan, but I am a fan of Browns fans.
I hope that Hue is given a real chance to prove that he can be a winner in the NFL. After all, Belichick, as noted above, would not win with the Browns roster. I'll remind you that Belichick was the Browns coach once. Its amazing how some roster changes can make a genius out of a dolt.
Lets b honest....BB hit the jackpot w Brady...hes a really good coach, but Brady is on the decline so lets see what he does in a few yrs
And with the usual sleight of hand, you're comment has been dismissed, KilkennyDan. Quite the magic trick isn't it? This is what Stopper likes to call "pointing out reality". *DRINK*
I'll agree that one thing that distinguishes a perpetual losing franchise from a winning one is very often one position - QB. Bellicheck may have hit the lottery, but he stacked the odds in his favor in NE. He saw the potential for how the skinny kid out if Michigan could fit his system. He recognized more than the other teams Brady's intense competitiveness. Luck, as the saying goes, does not just happen, but occurs for those prepared to take advantage when they see rare opportunity. Regardless of how or why, we have an example of one man that has held the HC position in Cleveland and in NE. He is lauded as one of the great coaching minds, yet he did not succeed with the Browns. There are a lot of coaches that get lauded for their potential before they ever take the top position. I am not saying that Hue is a coaching genius. But he came in very highly touted for a reason. I am saying that I hope he gets a full chance, and it cannot be said that with this roster. Even Bellichick would not win with what the Browns are putting on the field. Once the f/o and HC musical chairs stop, it does not take that long for a team to turn things around. It takes a plan, the competency to execute the plan, and young assets. I do not know if the Browns check off the first two boxes or not, (but no one can definitively state they do not either). The third box? Check. Give it another two years. The nation is not laughing at Cleveland; there is literally more talk about your burg being a future "City of Champions".
