How many wins do you think you can get going forward? vs Jets, @ Ravens and vs Chargers seem to be the best bets to win. Of course they could win others. I would like an honest response and not pessimism if you don't believe it or some really crazy prediction of winning out. Seriously what do you think of the makeup of the team and how they are doing as it relates to the rest of THIS season and what matchups looks favourable?
At this point Joe, I'm just hoping we don't go winless....Earlier in the season our defense was still bad, but they were creating splash plays, getting turnovers and managing to keep us in games...I'd say this week, going against Fitzpatrick, we got a shot. Especially if McCown is able to go...Fitz might keep us in it. Keep in mind, the schedule has been odd in that we've only played two home games so far. The following week we have our Thursday nighter in Baltimore. A team we should have already beat, so obviously we are capable of getting one there too....All in all, looking at the schedule, I concede that it's hard to find any wins for the Browns...Quite honestly, if the defense doesn't improve dramatically from what we saw in Cincy yesterday, we won't win any games. That was about as poor an effort as I've ever seen. When J. Hill is averaging 20 yards a carry on ya, there's a problem....
Our safeties are terrible...The can't defend the run OR the pass....I don't know what the hell they are doing. Yesterday, a couple times, it really looked like they didn't even want to tackle. The angles they take in run prevention would be laughable if I wasn't a Browns fan.....The lack of talent was REALLY on display yesterday, especially in that secondary. The Bengals are a very beatable team, and we made them look unbeatable....smh
^^^^^^^ What TD said..... I think realistically we are looking at a 2-4 win team...I really don't believe they go winless, despite all the injury issues they have faced. Every team except the Lions and Buccaneers have managed to find at least a week to have the ball drop their way..It is actually pretty difficult to go winless in a season. As TD mentioned, We have already played 5 of our 8 road games, so the second half of the season will be easier to get those unexpected couple of wins at home.
Video player from: 120 Sports (Privacy Policy) There is no longer an unbeaten team in the NFL after the Philadelphia Eagles ended the Minnesota Vikings? perfect start, but there is still one team without a victory this season. The Cleveland Browns, sitting at 0-7, have yet to win a single game in 2016. They?ve dealt with numerous injuries at quarterback, a troubled wide receiver in Josh Gordon and a secondary that?s been depleted and retooled of late. Their disastrous (yet, somewhat expected) start to the season has led to understandable frustration, particularly on the part of head coach Hue Jackson. Recommended for you: Eagles NFL Live Stream - Philadelphia Eagles Football. fanical.com/Philadelphia-Eagles | Sponsored Sunday?s loss to the Bengals -- Jackson's old team -- was a perfect representation of his dissatisfaction through seven weeks. With about five minutes left in the game, Jackson ditched his headset and handed play-calling duties to assistant coach Pep Hamilton. He later called out his team, too. "Yeah, I took them off,'' he said, via Cleveland.com. "I called the team out. Yeah, I was disappointed because I don't want anybody running the ball like that on us. We've got to get some things squared away, but I take responsibility for it all.? Jackson gave?up on the Browns as they were being?gashed for 559 yards, which is the most by Cleveland since 2008. He was tired of seeing his defense get run over by the Bengals and watching?the offense sputter with its?fifth different quarterback under center. He attempted to explain his reasoning for essentially quitting on the team early, though he denied that?s what he did. "I don't like losing, and I can get just like anybody else,'' he said. "I can get disappointed and upset just like anybody else. Because I took them off, I knew exactly everything that was going on. I can hear. It wasn't like I wasn't involved in the game, but I did.'' ?Jackson was fed up with his team?s performance and figured the game was out of reach. While he declares he wasn?t out of the game completely, surrendering play-calling in the fourth quarter sure seems like?a sign of giving up.
I mentioned real early in this season that I hope Hue can keep his enthusiasm, because the losing has wrecked the enthusiasm of every other coach that has come through here...Taking off the headset and handing playcalling duties to Pep Hamilton late in the game yesterday is really no big deal IMO. He's speaking to the players without talking by showing that level of frustration. The Bengals were averaging 9 yards a carry on us, geez I'd have slammed that headset and broke it into a million pieces....I think he's frustrated with his young team, especially the defense, but trying to equate him taking off his headset to "quiting" on the team, is ridiculous in my book...If he'd have walked off the field and left the stadium, then maybe we would have something to worry about...
Again, I agree 100% TD... Also, this little tidbit... I just listened to Hue's press conference on Browns Daily and when asked about the rumors about Joe Thomas he said MATTER OF FACTLY: " We.Are.Not.Trading.Joe.Thomas...Joe has a lot to do with what we are trying to accomplish here. I understand there are "reports out there" but that's all they are, you guys can report on them however you want, but there isn't any truth to it". On another note, He also stated that he expects Joe Haden to be back in the lineup this week.
The Cleveland Browns have claimed QB Joe Callahan via waivers from New Orleans and OL Gabe Ikard via waivers from Buffalo. To make room on the roster, the team waived DB Darius Hillary and FB Malcolm Johnson. Callahan is a 6-1, 216-pound rookie out of Wesley College. Originally signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent, he completed 54 of 88 passes for 499 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions during the preseason. He spent five weeks with Green Bay during the regular season and the past two weeks with New Orleans. As a senior at Wesley in 2015, he threw for 5,063 yards, becoming the first NCAA Division III quarterback to throw for 5,000 yards in a season. A native of Absecon, N.J., he graduated from Holy Spirit High School.? Ikard is 6-4, 300-pounds and in his third NFL season out of Oklahoma. Originally signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2014, Ikard has appeared in six career games. He was acquired by the Browns via waivers in 2015 and was inactive for one contest. This season, he appeared in two games with the Bills. A native of Oklahoma City, Ikard graduated from Bishop McGuinness High School. Hillary was signed to the Browns practice squad on Tuesday and was elevated to the active roster on Friday. He dressed but did not play in Sunday?s game. Johnson, a sixth-round draft pick in 2015, appeared in 19 games, including all seven this season. He had one career carry for two yards and nine career receptions for 59 yards.
Just curious, but do any of you stat guys have the defensive stats on how many times our QB's have been hurried, flushed out of the pocket and sacked and where that compares to the rest of the league? Just wondering if for some reason our QB's are just brittle or whether the O-line is letting them get demolished. I have just never seen this kind of injury rate for a team's QB's in all the years I've been watching the game (or that I can remember).
Doug, I have watched every snap this year, and from what I see, our O-line really hasn't been the main problem. They haven't been perfect, and have had more than their share of injuries to deal with, but our QB's are holding the ball way too long. Most of our passing game is based on short routes. If you take a three step drop, you MUST get the ball out quickly....RG3 and Josh McCown were actually known for getting themselves in trouble because of holding the ball too long, before they even became Cleveland Browns...And the younger guys? Well, that's what young unsure QB's do. It's just part of the process in developing a QB...Our line is taking plenty of heat and some of it is deserved, but our QB's must do a better job at making the quick decision and getting the ball out...
That's why we need to trade JT for more 1st round picks and then draft Buckeyes especially Elflein!!!!! Sorry........was channeling Els there for a moment. Must've been an out of body experience. Or the old "if you say something often enough, then people will believe it to be true." *DRINK*
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Maybe this October will one day mark the start of another heralded era of Indians baseball. The Indians have reached the World Series for the first time in 19 years, and they've done so in improbable fashion, absent a top hitter and two of their top starting pitchers. For now, the '90s Indians are considered something of a gold standard, even though the group didn't secure a championship. The Indians reached the playoffs in six of seven seasons from 1995-2001. And now those players will return to Cleveland to usher in the start of a long-waited World Series appearance. The league, in conjunction with the Indians, selected Kenny Lofton to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night. Carlos Baerga will toss out the first pitch before Game 2 on Wednesday. Both players suited up for the Tribe in 1995, when the club reached the World Series for the first time in 41 years. The franchise is still waiting for its first championship since 1948. The Cubs, Cleveland's opponent, haven't claimed the trophy since 1908. After a brief social media movement over the weekend, Charlie Sheen, who played "Wild Thing" Rick Vaughn in "Major League," volunteered for the opportunity to throw out a pitch. Major League Baseball went in a different direction. Lofton has ventured back to Cleveland on several occasions over the last few years. He threw out a ceremonial first pitch at Progressive Field last August. He attended the Indians Hall of Fame induction ceremony this summer, when former teammates Jim Thome and Albert Belle joined the franchise's exclusive fraternity. Baerga is a regular guest at Progressive Field. He frequents the home clubhouse and assists with the Indians' alumni ambassador program. Pop star Rachel Platten will sing the national anthem prior to Game 1. Country duo LOCASH will sing the anthem before Game 2.
No worries Brownie fans. The Tribe is going for our next title starting tomorrow! GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMAO! That was hilarious....I had to do a double-take to make sure who I was talking to....Your "out of body" experience freaked me out for a second... nice work... *DRINK* btw...I worked for a guy that lived by that old saying....some people truly believe that.
I have to disagree...this OL is on skates most times and QBs are running for their lives...Tenn abused these guys and had 5-6 sacks....they only sacked Indy 2 times and I believe Indy was up there in sacks allowed...also, when u dont stretch the field...good teams will take away the short throw and force u to hold the ball longer
Duff, a fair question, and some good responses. There's some truth to all of them, but I also wonder is there is some historical piece too. What I mean is, in years past, teams that lost a starter tended to greatly emphasize the running game, and now it seems the league has adopted passing as it's Holy Grail, and while most try to do that, they also quickly back off if it isn't working. Also the higher passing content has increased scoring, thus leads balloon quickly, and deter teams from running in order to have a chance. Just a couple of thoughts. In Cleveland's case that is exacerbated by a porous D, putting ever more pressure on the O to make up points, so whether the line is "fair" or "poor", the opponents D can pretty much count on our 3rd - 6th QB relying on short stuff, and shrink the field. It's frustrating. Having lost O linemen, our top draft WR, and all three QBs, doesn't make for a lot of optimism. Welcome to Cleveland, home of the NBA champs, World Series team and ... well....... that other team. Sad
I agree, it's a team effort on this subject...currently Joe Thomas and John Greco are the only competent lineman in the starting lineup...however, the QBs must get rid of the ball sooner and frankly, we need a QB that can get the ball down the field to loosen up the defense. Really the only thing I see getting this train wreck back on the tracks is Josh McCown returning healthy...and sadly...Greco playing center with the young guns filling in the other three positions and improving quickly.
Terry Francona, Dave Roberts win Sporting News? Manager of the Year Awards The BBWAA hands out its own Manager of the Year Awards in November, and they tend to be the better-recognized awards, but The Sporting News has been handing out its Manager of the Year awards since 1936, so we figure they?re worth mentioning too. This year The Sporting News? panel of 29 major league managers has named Dave Roberts of the Dodgers and Terry Francona its Managers of the Year. Roberts took over a somewhat fractured Dodgers clubhouse and overcame an historic number of player injuries ? requiring the use of 55 different players on the 25-man roster ? to lead L.A. to yet another National League West title and an appearance in the NLCS. Francona, meanwhile, took a team that was thought to be more of a Wild Card contender to 94 wins and the AL Central title, besting theTigers by eight games and the defending World Series champ Kansas City Royals by thirteen. *DRINK* 4 more wins to go and they'll get another trophy. Go Tribe!!!!!
