No, I'm sorry TD...their "fate" was NOT sealed. I know the percentage is extremely low to recover an onside kick, let alone two... However, with :27 seconds left, they did ATTEMPT an onside kick.. Had they recovered, they would have had time to throw a couple of passes to get into FG range and attempt a game winning kick... So their "fate" was not sealed on the missed conversion try, not matter how much you want it to be. Their fate was sealed when the ball went out of bounds on that onside kick. You have any idea how low a probability they had to even score two TDs in the final two minutes? And, some of us are arguing about firing Hue Jackson because of which TD he chose to go for the 2 points.... This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever had to share an opinion on...consider it shared, feel free to say whatever else you like on the matter.
Im saying he shuld b fired cause his thinking as a HC is insane and not kicking the XP justified that thinking...then he says in his press conf he will do it every time....u wont last long w that insanity so end it early
Based on the circumstances it was the right call. If there were more time and the Browns were going to kick off deep you take the 1 point and wait to see if something else happens that puts points on the board (fumble for score, pick 6, safety, etc.). But once the die was cast and the Browns knew they would be attempting an onside kick it makes more since to try the 2pt conversion so you know what you're playing for. I didn't watch the game but if you were going to question anything it would be why not kick the FG when you got to the 20 with 1:02 on the clock? Then you try the onside kick when you have some time to move the ball down the field and win. And you can only use that strategy because you went for the 2pt on the 1st TD and gave yourself options. Hue Jackson is right but I would have kicked the FG with 1:02 on the clock.
Dallas is winng w a rookie QB and RB, Philly won some games....the bottom line is EVERY team has injuries and those teams listed above had top 10 picks so u cant say they already were loaded....Dez Bryant has missed games(one of the top WRs in the NFL)...the excuses need to stop....bottom line is W's and L's and the Browns are 0-6 and the only team in the NFL w/out a win....that has 2 fall on the HC when he makes HUGE mistakes in his 1st 6 games....fake punt on own 30, up 20-0 and cant close it out at home, taking a knee w 40 secs and a TO left w a kicker u just picked up on Fri, kicking off in OT and then 2 pt conversion down 9....those are all BIG blunders in such a short span of games
Irish, we will just have to agree to disagree on this and let it go. I gave my opinion and you gave yours. Doesn't look like anybody will be changing their mind but I don't know why you're getting your panties in a bunch about the coach being fired or whatever. I never said anything like that. You must have me confused with someone else. I like Hue Jackson....I don't like his choice to sit on the ball in Miami and settle for the 46 yarder.....I don't like his choice to kick in OT.....and I hated the timing of his decision to go for two yesterday....But I like our coach and I think he's the right man for this job....IMHO He offsets his late game mental meltdowns by having a good game plan and a spirited young team that fights hard...We aren't a serious challenger this year, so the late game stuff, although frustrating as hell to certain fans, isn't really that big of a deal in the grand scheme...If we were a win or two away from contention, I would be much more upset about those decisions...
Come on Stopper...You are going to lose what little credibility you MIGHT have had with a couple of posters if you start to say the Cowboys roster compares to the Browns roster, with or without injuries to either team... Philly has won some games...they've also had the same roster for all 6 games, the only notable injuries with missed games are TE Ertz and CB McKelvin...Oh yeah, and the rookie QB is the one QB I said has the best chance at becoming a starter in the NFL of this rookie class, I believe you disagreed with me on that one as well.... I can't imagine what chaos would be taking place right now if we had the likes of Shurmur, Chud or Pettine.. If this team can play together, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they ended the year on a win streak that would ruin your calls for the #1 overall draft pick and you would use THAT as an excuse to want him fired as well. These guys haven't had time to acclimate to the NFL, let alone know how to win games consistently yet. However, they are getting better every week... We can re-visit this conversation at the end of the season.
I was dealing with two separate issues at the same time TD...the firing comments were made by stopper...I apologize for grouping you together with him in this debate...it just kind of happened.
Which is it Stopper? Either you're spouting your usual straw man vitriol or you are insinuating that prior to the season starting, the Browns had a roster full of talent comparable to that of the Eagles and Cowboys. Aside from the comment on the coach's decisions, you're trying to compare apples and oranges for rosters.
I am with Beach on this one. Going for 2 early, eliminated the questions about what needed to be done. You now know you need 2 possessions, so you accelerate your O and try to leave a few seconds to possibly go for the win. Going for the FG though at 1:02 really makes sense then for all the same reasons. It's the mixed strategy, accelerating the game then leaking out time to got for the TD right after defining the need for 2 scores. Yeah the chances for 2 onside kicks being recovered is slim at best, but you had already made that your strategy, so why not follow through, and kick off again with a full minute to work with?
I am becoming a Kessler fan. The guy plays smart, and minimizes mistakes. A couple of catches instead of drops and this is a different game. It would be nice to have our rookie WR back, even better if Gordumb had stayed within the rules and made it back onto the field, but that ship has sailed or flown (high), and we need Coleman back, 5 healthy O linemen, and off we go. I agree with many, that Haden's star is fading. The #1 ability is avail ability, and he just hasn't been, for far too long. I still think he's got the talent to be a our #1 guy, but guarding the bench isn't helping. Still this is a Browns team I like. The line issues are really taking our game away, but if we can get that patched, we could be a very tough out.
Ok, well you guys can keep believing that Hue did the right thing but you are wrong....If Beach can take the other stance so "matter of fact-ly" than so can I...lol! You realize that Hue Jackson is being torched all across the nation for that decision right? ESPN, CBS, ABC, FOX EVERYBODY is blasting Hue Jackson for that call... "if we don't make the conversion, at least we know that we will need two scores instead of just one". Seriously? *WALL* That is supposed to somehow give the bad decision merit?? Whew...We are the most defeated fan base in history..smh. but hey, at least after Hue screwed up, we KNEW that we were gonna need two miracles instead of just one....So we had that goin for us.. *DONT_KNOW*
I dont care what team u want to compare...like I said earlier the Browns are 0-6 and the only team in the league w/out a win....I used those 2 teams cause they both had top 10 picks and rookie QBs...if Romo was playing and they were winng I wuld understand but the bottom line is its still a rookie QB....does it matter if the Browns lose every game by 1 pt or win every game by 1 pt..its either a W or L....also we wuldnt even b talking bout this decision by Hue if the Tenn DB had a clue on 4th down when Kessler just threw up a prayer that was answered, but hey thats football
LOL,LOL,LOL! The coaches are fine. It's the talent, fellas. I don't know who wrote it earlier but they were exactly right. They cut or moved every high price veteran they could to save money and build a young team through the draft. EVERY PLAYER, I MEAN EVERY PLAYER is under review right now. JT and Haden included. They make waay to much money for a 1 win football team. Thats the plan, man. They want to see what young guy can contribute to the future of this team. Jackson and Horton are proven good coaches. They just don't have the talent on this team right know to run their schemes effectively. This team doesn't have a Daulton or a Green. I like Kessler and he should start the rest of the way. Our line is not as good as Cinncy's. I don't care what any of you say but the Browns are tanking for the #1 pick. That pick will get traded probably for Peppers. The Browns are still 2 lineman, OLB, 1 CB and 1 safety away from being a real good football team. C & RT are the 2 lineman spots. That's 5 players are both sides of the ball. What sucks is the guy's that you want to see grow are hurt. Coleman, Nassib & Bitonio. Along with the other young guy's. This team needs to add more IMPACT players. Especially on defense. It would be great to add a pass rushing OLB to go with those 2 new DE's.
How the hell was my post any different than any of your numerous posts? I stated my opinion that he was right. Matter of fact-ly? Seriously? %) Fixed it for ya.
WOOHOO!!! ROLL TRIBE!!! Beach, are you kidding me? lol! Dude I like your posts and I think you are one of the more intelligent football fans that contribute here...You do seem to be a little thin-skinned though. lol! I mean, it really made you mad because I called you out for being authorative with your post...hehe. Sorry bro... *DONT_KNOW* Hell, I got a -1 from somebody...i'm not gonna let it get the best of me though. *SHADES*
Your gaining on me TD lol...rip on Hue one or 2 more times and u will keep getting negs even when almost EVERYBODY is berating his decision
