How many winning seasons has that all-pro got you? How many playoff teams had an all-pro LT? This team is in a total rebuild mode. He is your biggest trade commodity. He makes either the most or 2nd most money on the team. Does having an ALL-PRO LT equate to wins for this team? NO it does not. Yesterday was a true gauge for talent on this team. NE is a perennial playoff team. Us fans who already know this is a 2 win football got to see exactly how far they have to go. The Browns have some good pieces to build on. Nassib,Ogbah, Kessler, Coleman, Pryor, Greco, Bitonio, Kirksey, Johnson, Crowell, Bandridge and Haden (OVER RATED) but you could do worse. Joe Thomas is not the future LT of this team. Matter of fact only Bitonio and Greco are on this line. Thomas could get this team another 1st rd late pick. That would give the Browns 3 1st rd picks. I like what this front office did with the first 3 rds last year. Drafted STARTERS! As we all should know this team is rebuilding and needs a lot of talent. Draft picks are going to be the way this team does it. First they need offensive lineman(FOR THE FUTURE) JT is the past. This franchise failed him. Time to trade him to a winning team and let him ride off into the sunset as a HOF. Irish yes it is time to talk draft. If Padesta and Brown are really smart they would aim for the #1 pick. Some team is going to be head over heals for someone (PEPPERS UofM) and trade you the house for him. Now I like Peppers, which is a lot for me to say because I'm a Buckeye Honk. Peppers can play FS,SS and maybe OLB. Athletic, fast and 6-1 205. But right now he is the only player I would consider with the #1 over all pick. He also plays a position of major need on this team. After saying all that I would still consider trading that #1 pick for more picks. There is no QBs' coming out that I want. Not Jackson, Kiser, Watson or whoever. I like what I have seen from Kessler. I don't like spread option QB's in the NFL. Unless you have the line of the Cowboys. Zeke will end up a HOF there in Dallas. Why? THEY HAVE THE BEST LINE IN THE NFL! Build the line for the future. We have gone through 5 QBs already. The line with JT is terrible. How much worse can it get?
Wins are one thing, you need a TEAM to accumulate wins, not a single player... What we have gotten for allowing a top C and RT leave is the possibility of a 4th starting QB in 6 games, (and having 2 hurt this past game, so that would probably be a practice squad QB)... Yet of your list of 12 players.. 2 players were missing and one hurt in the first quarter of this game. That's 25% of the "good pieces" missing. How does that equate to a true gauge? Not calling you out, but I don't see how we can gauge the talent level on the Patriots game...We had a 4th string QB come in, who was just signed off the street a week ago and also got hurt in the game...Really not a lot to go on as far as gauging the talent is concerned yesterday. The only thing that game did was help with draft position. Define future PLEASE.....I beg you.... Joe Thomas is 31 years old and has never had a significant injury. He's played every snap of his career and doesn't show signs of wearing down. He could easily play another 5-6 years. On the flip side, you call John Greco a part of this teams future and he is also 31 years old, but has had injuries in his past(knee injury ended his season just last year). I would really like to know your definition of "future of this team"? Losing for a draft pick doesn't equate to a winning atmosphere in the locker room which is more important than a single player... Including the likes of Peppers...Here's the thing, no one even knows who will be available come April of 2017...again, including Peppers who is a red shirt sophomore. We can't start slinging names in October...I mean we can, considering the Browns banter about the actual team isn't positive at all...but, we could do a complete mock draft and have none of the names even be available because they decided to stay in college... As of right now, the top Senior prospect is Chad Kelly(who just got in a brawl at his brother's high school football game)...All other top prospects vying for a top ten position in the draft are underclassmen. You say it is terrible with JT, I say it is terrible despite him...How much worse? I would hate to see the answer to that question!
This is why I believe the Browns will have zero interest in moving Joe. If analytics are truly driving the decisions in Berea, then the math should point to the value of a franchise LT with solid years left being extremely high for a team looking to develop a franchise passer.
Quick update, reports on the radio say Kessler's checkout today went great and he should be available to start this week.
That's good news....a rarity for us these days. Sometimes you just gotta laugh...The pic Bluez put up of the dude holding the sign that said : "Browns' QB's Lives matter", is pretty funny...
The Browns? list of starting quarterbacks since 1999 grew to 26 when Cody Kessler ascended to the top job earlier this season, but it doesn?t look like the team?will need to move on to No. 27 against the Titans in Week Six. Kessler had to leave Sunday?s loss to the Patriots due to rib and chest injuries and coach Hue Jackson said after the game that x-rays showed no breaks. More evaluation was set for Monday and Jackson said the rookie was ?day-to-day.? Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Kessler ?checked out OK? and is expected to be back in the starting lineup against Tennessee. Kessler was 5-of-8 for 62 yards and a touchdown against New England before he got hurt. Charlie Whitehurst replaced Kessler and went 14-of-24 for 182 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He appeared to hurt his knee near the end of the game and former starter Josh McCown is recovering from a broken collarbone. Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor moved back to his former role and threw three passes during the game as well.
Kaboom! IMO DPL HoF worthy.... Crex is on his game....that took a little edge off the horrible football game...Well done my friend.
I have to wonder if Bluez even noticed the bottle of Makers Mark behind her. *SCRATCH* Nah, those weren't the jugs he was looking at. Please note that Rok and I have the scotch well hidden.
Browns have been awarded OL Johnathon Cooper off of waivers. Cooper was a 2013 1st round pick (7th overall) of the Cardinals. He was recently waived by the Patriots. He is projected as either a RG or RT for the Browns.
ROLL TRIBE!!! with the Blue Jays sweeping away Texas, the Tribe now has home field advantage for as long as they can stay alive this post season....I believe in these guys. The Indians are what a team should be..They are like a family.... Playing with great confidence and chemistry all year....I think everyone was worried about the Boston series except for Terry Francona and the Indians....It's gonna be a wild ALCS with Toronto. That's who we played the memorable 19 inning game with earlier this season...
I believe that was the game they won to set the franchise record at 14 in a row. From that game alone, Toronto knows that Francona doesn't mess around. If he pulled out all the stops for that game, who knows what the Blue Jays should expect in the ALCS.
So, Football Jesus lasts 3 whole weeks... Browns have terminated the contract of Charlie Whitehurst with an injury settlement... On another note, they have signed Kevin Hogan from the practice squad to the active roster... They also signed DL Gabe Wright from the practice squad to the active roster and signed WR Mitch Mathews to the practice squad. Not sure who on the active roster is being moved to make room for Wright... Also, practicing this week...Kessler, McCown and Erving....
Does anybody else think that the hit on Kessler was cheapshot? I'm pretty sure if Danny Shelton had thrown ALL his weight on Brady in similar fashion that it would have drawn a flag. Hell they'd have thrown him out if he had done that to Tommy Terrific.....Donta Hightower clearly went out of his way to make sure Kessler felt all of his weight as he hit the ground. I thought for sure we were gonna have another slingboy on the sidelines this week...smh. The Browns never get calls their way, because nobody respects them. It's a conditioned response from the refs at this point.... I like the fight in our Browns, but once Kessler went out, any chance of hanging in with New England went right out the door...It was pretty clear that clipboard jesus wasn't gonna save us....
Jackson says the team will stay determined despite being winless Fred Greetham Yesterday at 12:39 PM If the Patriots are the standard for what the Browns are striving to achieve, Hue Jackson said currently the team isn't close to what they want to be BEREA, Ohio--Hue Jackson said it's tough to accept, but easy to compare where you are when you are gauging your team up against a team that your are striving for. Last week's opponent, the New England?Patriots?have been the mark of?stability?in the NFL for quite some time and Jackson said his goal is to someday be that mark of stability. Asked after the game, where the Browns were in their quest to accomplish that, Jackson said he's not ready to ?say. ?I don?t know that," Jackson said. "We will not know that until the season is over. Obviously, we have a ways to go. Right now, we are not close, but I think our guys are improving in some areas and getting better. We just have to continue to get better collectively as a team and then we will look back and see exactly where we are." Jackson said playing top NFL teams allows he and the front office to measure where they're at. "These are the games that you will point to to where we will make our biggest growth because I think when you play against an opponent that is as good as I think that team is because I think that is the best team we have played this season, you have a different barometer to look at and to judge everything by," he said. "I think I do. I think we all do. That is what the champions ? because they have been ? that is what the division champions look like ? that is what they look like. That is what they play like. That is what we hope to be so that is what you are going to have to defeat as you move forward.? Jackson didn't use the "P" word (process) but said the eye has to be on the goal when asked if it is hard to go through on a week-to-week basis. ?No, I?m not going to say it is tough," he said. "The reason why I wanted to say that is because I want? We have to understand that is where we are going, where we are trying to get to. Until you can get there, you have to keep reaching for it. You have to keep building to get there, and I think that is what we are attempting to do. "We want to be one of the best organizations in football so there it was," he said. "That is what you have to look at to compare and contrast of where you are trying to go. It is a good eye-opener for all because that is where we want to be.? Andrew Hawkins said the Patriots represent one of the best teams in the NFL--even though they don't necessarily have a roster filled with super stars. ?I think the Patriots are a good team, always," Hawkins said. "It is really the program. They are not always the most talented, but the most talented aren?t always the teams that win Super Bowls. The best teams, the best programs are the ones that win Super Bowls. I think it is something to take away from. I think we see that they play together. Sometimes you think, ?This guy isn?t as good as the last guy we played,? but they are playing at a high level and are working together. I think that is what makes them so special.? Joe Haden said despite the Browns being winless through five games, the young players and the team, in general, has to continue to be ready each and every week. ?We have got a job to do," Haden said. "They have got to believe in it. We have got to come in here we have got to figure out a way to get a win. I?m not changing, Joe T (Thomas) is not changing, and the leaders on the team aren?t changing. We keep going into practice every week. Had a great week of practice, a great week of preparation, that?s all we can ask for. All we can ask them to do is keep coming in, keep working hard, keep watching the tape and just keep preparing.? Jackson said he is encouraged about how the Browns are progressing, even though it's not manifesting itself in the win column. "Our team has to continue to grow in a lot of different areas,"Jackson said. "That is my responsibility as the head coach of this football team, and I get that, along with our staff, to continue to get these men better. The effort is there. There is no question about that. The guys are working extremely hard. They are giving everything they have. I saw some improvement in some areas that I thought was very important that we continue to get better in over the next several weeks. I have seen some growth in some areas, but I have also seen some things that we have to continue to work through and get better at, and we will do that. "I?m not by any means discouraged," he said. "I?m going to stay determined. This team is going to stay determined. We are going to stay together and we are going to keep working at it. That is what I love about these guys. I know everybody says, ?Well, you guys are 0-5. How much long can you keep playing this card until you get there?? We are a pro team. Our job and our mission is to go out and win every game and to work every week to get better. That is my job to motivate these guys, along with our staff, to get them to buy into what we?re trying to sell. We understand we are a young team, but we are going to work at it every day to continue to get better.? Extra Points Hogan, Wright Promoted, Add WR: QB Kevin Hogan and DL Gabe Wright were signed to the active roster from the practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team terminated the contract of QB Charlie Whitehurst with an injury settlement. In addition, the team signed WR Mitch Mathews to the practice squad. ?Hogan (6-3, 218) is a rookie out of Stanford. He was originally selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the draft. He has spent the first five weeks of the season on the Browns? practice squad. In college, Hogan completed 727 of 1,103 passes for 9,385 yards, 75 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,249 yards and 15 touchdowns. ?Wright (6-2, 284) is officially in his second NFL season out of Auburn. Originally selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, he has appeared in nine career games. Wright has appeared in two games with the Browns this season and spent three weeks on the club?s practice squad.? ?Whitehurst made his Browns debut as a reserve last week. He completed 14 of 24 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown. He injured his knee in the fourth quarter. ?Mathews (6-5, 220) is a rookie season from Brigham Young. Originally signed by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent, he was waived on Aug. 30. In 41 games at BYU, Mathews registered 152 receptions for 2,083 yards and 24 touchdowns. Erving Anxious: OL Cameron Erving is hoping he will be able to get back on the field this week against the Titans. ??I?m definitely excited to get back out there," Erving said. "It sucks just watching. Putting all the time in that we put into this sport and if anybody gets hurt, it sucks. Thankfully, I?m in the position where I will be able to come back soon. I?m just going to go out there, just going to work to get myself back in shape, first off and just fight through anything that I may have to fight through.? The plan is for Erving to begin practicing on Wednesday and see how the week goes. Jackson was asked if will be put back in the starting lineup this week, if all goes well. ??We will see," Jackson said. "More than likely, yes. That is where he has played and that is where he is coming back to get ready to go. Once we get him out there at practice, we will see where he is.? Erving said he feels pretty good after having a scary injury with a bruised lung. ?I feel pretty good now," Erving said. "There are definitely things you have to fight through. We are past the point of worrying about my lung now. We are just pushing forward, making sure I can do everything within my position and just get back out there and play ball.?
