Not only would it take that, but it would be reasonable to the team trading for him as well because of the fact the bonus money is eaten by the Steelers and they are only responsible for his future salaries. Otherwise, I agree with you.
Happy game day Lounge Houndz. *HI* Here's a lil sumthin to east the pain of having to play the Patsies today...
lol, what are disagreeing on Mano??? I never said the team making a trade had anything to lose... The only thing I said was it would be tough for the Steelers because of the acceleration of the bonus money and beach said it was inaccurate, that the bonus money completely went away 18 months ago.
And it just may happen as I have every major offensive player on one of my FFL rosters in one capacity or another. *ROSE* *WALL* I'd gladly eat three losses today just to see the Browns win *YAHOO*
That's the spirit Crex! The "Any given Sunday" philosophy. The wierd thing is our Browns have had games like that before, one agianst the Pats that I remember, so .... Why Not? Let's just get this Joe Thomas for Ben Rothlesburger trade done and get on with it.
Cmon TD. You guys were discussing trading him - not me. I only commented on the notion that he was worth a 1st round pick. I'm not hellbent on anything. I was firmly in the corner of signing Mack and Schwartz this offseason and giving whomever was at QB a fighting chance. I feel the same way about Thomas. They should keep him. At no point have I ever said they should trade him. I was only offering an opinion on his value.
The problem isn't the sites. It's your understanding of how bonus money is paid and calculated. Ben signed his new deal in March of 2015. He received a 31M signing bonus paid at the time of the signing (sometimes the Steelers will defer some of it until the begininng of the season for cash flow issues but it's calculated the same). That bonus money has been paid. They don't owe anything. If you want to discuss his dead money if he were to be paid that's an entirely different subject but it doesn't require the Steelers to pay another dime to Ben Roethlisberger to consummate the trade as you said in your post. If they were to trade Ben today they would actually receive a significant cap savings in 2016. Ben makes $1,044,117 per week. There are 13 weeks left in the season counting today. So if they were to trade him they would see $13,573,579 in cap relief in 2016. They obviously aren't going to spend that money between now and the end of the year so it would roll over to 2017. In 2017, because Ben was traded the Steelers would face a dead money charge of $18,600,000 (3 x 6.2M). But they would be carrying over the savings they received this year from not paying 13 weeks of his 17.75M salary. So the true impact of trading Ben would be $5,026,470. It wouldn't happen until next year and it represents a 13M cap savings vs his cap charge as a member of the team next year. So to answer your question, if the Steelers were to trade Ben they would save $13M in cash and they would create 13M in cap space for next season. Those are the facts. What you typed... ... is completely off and would have zero impact on Ben's trade value.
Well good, as long as we understand each other. lol! Because I don't know who was discussing trading him, but it wasn't me. I've always been against trading Thomas unless it's a deal we just can't pass up...In my mind that would be a #1 and another premium (top 100) pick, and I'm realistic enough to know, that ain't happenin.....No idea what the Roethlisberger stuff was about....pretty funny though.
I never said they want to trade him. I merely offered an opinion on his value and I suggested that if you want some indication if the rumors are true the last place you would look is Sashi. As part of the negotiations the last thing he wants to look like is a guy trying to sell Thomas. My opinion, as I stated earlier is that they should keep him.
at this point .watching this train wreck today i say trade em all . TD Jesus even got hurt . God hates the Browns *ROSE*
This is the first time this season, I really felt the depression that has haunted me for the last 4 years coming back. 2 more QBs hurt, so five for five, so far....... When does it start to get better?????????????
oh well . that was a ugly game to watch . Ogbah??? Schobert ?? Rookie WR'S ??? UUUGH . where are they ?
Ken It may never get better, lol Is that 5 f^&^%$# QBs already this season? The offensive line needs a major make over. Wentz, Marino, Manning, Rodgers would all get destroyed here. It is totally useless to draft a QB with that #1 pick to get absolutely blown up. O-LINE, O-LINE and again O-LINE! LT- Thomas needs traded. The line sucks with him anyway. Free up the money and go get a younger LT to grow with Bitonio. LG- Best lineman on the team now. A KEEPER C- Greco. Just keep him there. He is your best option and is 1000 times better than BUST ERVING. KEEPER RG- NEED TO DRAFT A NEW ONE. RT- NEED TO DRAFT A NEW ONE. The whole right side of this line is terrible. If Greco stays at center then draft a RG. If he goes back to RG then draft Eilflin to play center. Erving is a backup at both C & G. The defensive backfield including Haden is absolutely horrid. CB,SS,FS are all huge needs on this team. Haden again today got burnt like toast. Every game but one he has been abused. NOT A SHUT DOWN CORNER. This team needs a 4-3 pass rushing OLB. They have to get more pressure on the QB. I see these draft needs...... 1. O-line- RG,RT. Maybe LT if Thomas is traded. 2. DBs- CB, FS, SS 3. OLB- 4-3 guy who can get after the QB Well I guess it's Hogan's time. Maybe 6th is the charm. Only this franchise, lol
Trading Thomas is your answer?!?! You keep whining about the QB's going down and how atrocious the O-line is and then again throw out the tired "trade Thomas" comment. Before yesterday's game, the Browns were up among the league leaders in rushing. Pass blocking is a different story but Thomas is the only guy doing his job consistently and it's on the QB's blind side. Unless you're planning on seeing the Browns sign 1-2 FA QB's weekly to replace the one that gets hurt weekly, you might want to just suggest that the Browns run the ball every play so the QB won't get knocked out.
Thanks beach, I'll be the first to admit I don't understand the cap issues, or how the teams pay the bonuses...It is all very confusing... So, I get on board and agree with you 100%!! the Steelers SHOULD trade Roethlisberger!!! *YAHOO* *INLOVE* Just not to the Browns!!
