So what do think of Whitehurst? I'm surprised because there were many names mentioned, and he was not one of them...It doesn't do much for the excitement level, but obviously we needed someone with experience....idk.

  7. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

There is a reason he (or anybody for that matter) was available. Perhaps the only criteria was a pulse.

I actually remember Whitehurst a little because he went to Clemson and I have some family members that went there...Career back-up in the NFL, hence the nickname we know and love...He's gotta be mid 30's by now. Hopefully we won't need him is all I can say....Go Cody!

Seriously though, I thought Whitehurst had a chance to be a starter in this league. He's tall and athletic. Unfortunately he was drafted by San Diego who just didn't need a QB, and then sort of bounced around from there...I guess if he was "starter" material, it would have shown by now, but I honestly don't mind this signing...After hearing Jason Campbell's name mentioned a hundred times, I was sort of relieved to hear they bringing in Whitehurst....

Two games and this Wentz kid from a small school looks pretty good . I don't care where you played your college ball at .if you can play you can play . I hate when people knock the level of competition .

Can we get a redo on the trade with the Eagles :(

Just for the record....Carson Wentz is going to be great. He's nothing but impressive at this stage... I don't forecast a whole lot of losing in his future. I know it's early, but Browns fans should forget about that potentially being a top 10 pick in the next draft, and just hope it doesn't wind up a pick in the mid to late 20's...

  13. Nassib injured too? Thats it, I'm done with this CURSED sorry excuse of a football team. There is no need to watch this train wreck anymore. Ive typed I don't like taking QBs early but this FACTORY OF SADNESS is not worth CHIT! WENTZ is more impressive than EVERY SINGLE QB that this piece of chit team has had in 17 years.

Yahoo has an article that says the Browns are cursed. I say let Haslam take this piece of chit train wreck to where ever the frack he wants. Tear that piece of chit Stadium down before it falls into Lake Erie. Take the last losing, pathetic record with them where ever they go. Ticket holders should demand a refund. This is a sorry excuse for sports entertainment. They are a comedy for F$%# sakes. 5 QBs in 5 games? What the F#$% is that? Really! F%^$%$# really! This isn't pro football! Its a F%^$%$# PONZI SCHEME! I knew they were going to suck but WOW, F$%$#@# WOW! I got OSU looking like world beaters on Saturday then watch this CRAP! This team is F%^&$%! Period! MAN DOWN, TEAM DOWN, for fans.... MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN! A F%$#%&^ PONZI SCHEME! Im EMBARRASSED that this piece of chit team is from Cleveland. We win an NBA championship, Monsters win Championship, Stipe wins championships, Indians heading to the playoffs, RNC is in town and Cleveland gets great national revue's then enters the sorry arse Cleveland Browns. Cleveland doesn't deserve the Browns chit anymore. A total embarrassment to this great city. Im 2-0 in fantasy, My Buckeyes will win the Big10 and maybe a national championship. Why, why,why waste my Sundays on this crap?

I "crapped" on your opinion? You may need a thicker skin so you don't get burned to a crisp on that beach, Beach.

You of all people should understand my stance on this debate we had prior to the draft. You have touted for years how much more Hines Ward was to the team than just a pass catcher. Steve Smith is the same mold, he is all over the field helping his team, even when his number isn't called to catch the pass. At Baylor, if it wasn't a pass designed for him, he actually stopped on the line of scrimmage and didn't even run a dummy pass route. He never blocked, run or pass. I hope this changes in the pros, but if it doesn't, he will NOT become someone that is compared to Steve Smith. When making a comparison, you need to compare their entire game, not a single aspect of it. A single 100 yard, 2 TD game doesn't put him in the company of Steve Smith. So go ahead and revel in your own genius, but the comparison still doesn't hold up yet. Where is the highlight of him throwing a block? Steve Smith has those highlights...as did Hines Ward..

In COLLEGE, so did Will Fuller...

Cody Kessler really needs to look good for his coach. Hue Jackson already took a pretty big hit with the RG3 experiment. Clearly, in week one, this team did not start their best QB. The offense looked 100 times better with McCown running the show. Now #1 and #2 are hurt, and we are rolling into week 3 planning to start rookie Cody Kessler. A rookie most people thought was drafted way too early. A rookie that our coach told us, "we have to trust him" on....So here we go. If Kessler looks awful, it's going to be a direct reflection on Hue Jackson, and on the team in general for passing on Carson Wentz....BTW: last night Wentz became the NFL's first rookie QB to start out 2-0, without a single turnover...

Like I said, for Hue's sake....Cody needs to play well.

Don't forget we still have Pryor as an option at QB. He may not be an option though until after Gordon is back on the active roster.

Hope we never have to be in such dire straits to have to use a #5 QB option, but at this rate the Browns may start more QB's than they'll have wins this season.

Hope Kessler can show why they drafted him overly high..........

Browns center Cameron Erving was taken to the hospital after Sunday?s loss to the Ravens and spent the night before being released on Monday morning with a pulmonary contusion.
Erving?s status for future games will be handled on a week-to-week basis, leaving the Browns with some shuffling to do on the offensive line. Right guard John Greco will take over at center with Alvin Bailey stepping in to Greco?s old spot, which makes sense given Greco?s past experience at the position.
It does leave the team short on backups, something that they are remedying on Tuesday. Multiple reports have?the team signing Austin Reiter off of the Redskins practice squad and Reiter?s agent told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that Reiter is on his way to Cleveland.
Reiter was a 2015 seventh-round pick out of South Florida and spent last year on the practice squad. He?made the initial cut to 53 players this year, but was waived last week before rejoining the practice squad.

And still some of his Brown's teammates have made the same comparison I made last November - it was even earlier than I thought.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Veteran quarterback Charlie Whitehurst was once on the wrong end of the biggest comeback in Browns history. Now, he's a member of the Cleveland Browns.

Whitehurst, a 10-year pro, signed a one-year deal with the Browns on Monday night, his agent, Pat Dye, told cleveland.com.

The Browns will announce the signing on Tuesday morning.

Hue Jackson said Monday that Cody Kessler will start Sunday against the Dolphins, but he left himself a little wiggle room on that, stressing that the Browns were looking around for a veteran and hoped to sign one fast.

    They didn't waste any time.

Whitehurst, 34, worked out for the Browns at their facility in Berea on Monday and signed his deal late Monday night.

He's expected to come in as the backup to Kessler, at least for this week, but the Browns will see how it goes.

A 10-year pro, he was signed in response to Josh McCown suffering a left shoulder/clavicle injury during Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Ravens. McCown is week-to-week, but a source told cleveland.com he's expected to miss multiple games.

The Browns also lost starting quarterback Robert Griffin III to a fractured left shoulder in the opener in Philadelphia that will keep him out a minimum of 8-12 weeks. The Browns are prepared to be without Griffin for the entire season.

The Browns play four of their next five on the road, which is a tall order for a rookie if McCown is out for awhile. Jackson alluded to McCown's clavicle not being "totally broken'' which means he may have suffered a hairline fracture.

Josh McCown out with shoulder injury; Cody Kessler to start vs. Dolphins

Whitehurst spent the 2015 season in Indianapolis, where Browns associate head coach/offense Pep Hamilton was his offensive coordinator until Hamilton was fired in November. Hamilton knows him well, and will help determine if Whitehurst is ready for possible action in Miami.

A third-round pick in 2006 out of Clemson, has spent most of his career as a backup, and has gone 2-7 in his nine starts. He's completed 55.1% of his passes for 2,281 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has a career rating of 74.7.

In 2014, he was on the losing end of the biggest comeback in Browns history when he played for the Titans. Whitehurst came off the bench in relief Jake Locker and threw two touchdown passes to help build a 28-3 Titans first-half lead. But Brian Hoyer stormed back with three touchdown passes and 26 unanswered points for a 29-28 Browns victory.

Jackson stressed the importance of Monday of getting a veteran in right away.

"Regardless how long or what the situation will be with Josh, it's important we get another arm on our football team as fast as we can,'' he said. "It's too important. Too many things can happen this weekend."

Jackson opened his press conference Monday hesitant to name Kessler his starter and initially saying there was "a good chance'' he'll do so. Later, he amended that to say "it will be Cody.''

He added, "I'd like to go through the gameplan, see where we are and watch a lot more of Miami and see what we need to do in order to put together an offense that has a chance to go out and compete, has a chance to score points and win.''

The Browns now at least have an experienced backup behind the third-round pick out of USC.

CLEVELAND, Ohio ? With starting center Cam Erving out awhile with a bruised lung, the Browns signed center Austin Reiter off the Redskins' practice squad.

"He's on his way to Cleveland and happy to be a Brown,'' said his agent, Nordirbek Talipov. "The Redskins really liked him.''

Mike Jones of the Washington Post first reported the move.

The Browns will have to make a move to make room for Reiter, but haven't yet announced it. They will also announce the acquisition of 10-year quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who signed a one-year deal with the Browns Monday night, his agent Pat Dye told cleveland.com.

John Greco will slide over from right guard and start at center Sunday in Miami, while Alvin Bailey will step in at right guard. But the Browns will now have reinforcements at the position.
Reiter (6-3, 307) was a seventh-round pick of the Redskins in 2015 out of the University of South Florida. He added about 12 pounds of muscle this season and was ready to pick up his game. He runs a 5.1 in the 40 and had an impressive 34-inch vertical leap at this pro day.

"I just think this time this year versus last year, there's no clutter,'' he told the Washington Post. "There's no circus going on around me, being a draft pick. This year, I treat it more as a job. You learn that. Just going out there, I have that mentality. Going in and learning the plays over again, you pick up on nuances, and it's good to be able to re-learn something. Everything kind of slows down."

Erving suffered the bruised lung late in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Redskins. Former Browns linebacker Barkevious Mingo sat out a month with his bruised lung in 2013, and Erving is also likely to miss about that long. A thoracic surgeon told cleveland.com that bruised lungs take anywhere from about two weeks to two months to heal, depending on the severity of the contusion.

Erving was released from University Hospitals on Monday, where he was held overnight Sunday for observation.
