Browns placed QB Robert Griffin III on injured reserve with a broken bone in his non-throwing shoulder.

Specifically, Griffin has a "fractured coracoid bone." He will be re-evaluated in roughly a month. Griffin can be activated off injured reserve after eight games. Griffin's absence will be spun as a big loss, but the reality is it's been years since he was an effective player. RGIII had a middling preseason, and was bad before going down on Sunday. Josh McCown is probably an upgrade for the tanking Browns. He will be backed up by rookie Cody Kessler.

I don't think so Irish. I think Carson Wentz is the real deal. The dude barely played in the preseason, yet the coach said in his presser, not only did Wentz have the playbook down stone cold, but he was adding plays to accentuate his own athleticism....He's super freaking smart....He big and athletic......He's accurate.....He's poised beyond belief considering......I was actually blown away by how well he played. I thought surely we could confuse him, but if anything it was the opposite. Credit to Eagles for making a bold move and taking heavy criticism. Wentz is only going to get better....He will have some rookie moments, but I think Philly hit it out of the park with Wentz...

This is not a criticism of the Browns. Their roster was a freaking mess and they did what they felt was necessary....The Browns still have a lot of building to do in the next draft and a lot of picks to do it with. Still a strong possibility that our tradedown from #2 in the 2016 draft will work out well for both parties..

  3. No I wuldnt have drafted him at #2...what Im saying is I keep hearing the excuses bout why RG3 needs more time but a rookie QB who didnt even have a full training camp or preseason games went out and had a decent day

Stopper, i know you know some football, but your crappy weird shorthand writing style still sucks...Why not just spell the word "for" instead of throwing the number in like you are texting us? it's annoying as hell...jus sayin.

Wasn't making excuses for RG3....Was just pointing out the variables that you broad stroke aside...It doesn't matter now. Looks like the RG3 era might have been REALLY short....

I guess what we should be discussing is Vegas lines:

Over/Under on games McCown goes without an injury: 4
Over/Under on games rookie Cody Kessler starts in 2016: 3
Over/Under on games Kevin Hogan starts in 2016(for Lym): 2

Feel free to add any others...

Get ready fellas...the 2016 Cleveland Browns season has begun!!!

    here's a couple:

How many people will jab the Browns for passing on Wentz?: a million?.....more?

How many "experts" will mention this week that the Browns moving to McCown is actually an upgrade?

How long will it take for me to get the "optimism" back and start talking about how we'll beat Baltimore on Sunday? 4 days? 3 days? When the Grey Goose starts to flow?

OVER/UNDER the numbers of plays Josh McCown will run before his first injury of the season? 10?......5?.......2?.......he's already hurt.

Guess I should have expanded my bold prediction to include who would be the fifth starting QB this year after Hogan. 15 games is a long ways to go.

    At this rate....yes it is!!

(edit:) But remember, RGIII will probably start game 8, so that takes ONE game out of the equation...

I actually agreed with the move at the time, and I still do. When the cupboard is bare you have to stock it. You can't stock quickly with a limited number of picks and if the bread goes bad before the butter is churned then you wasted a couple bucks at the store. <- poorly written original analogy about getting a franchise quarterback and not having enough of a roster to support him

You can count me as one of the people that believe this is an upgrade. The expert part is probably a stretch though...

Alcohol always raises the level of confidence and it's never the wrong choice.

I don't see getting Kessler involved early in his career as a bad thing. Hue will get to quickly decide whether or not to move on a quarterback early in the 2017 draft.

There were some individual performances that showed promise on Sunday. I watched the better part of that game and I think both Ogbah and Nassib will be solid professionals. Pryor's development is coming along nicely but he needs to be in a Ted Ginn kind of role. When Gordon comes back and Pryor gets moved around some I think it will be a better fit. Duke Johnson needs to be involved as much as possible. He can become a spark-plug for the offense.

Tim, just wondering....Why Apollo Creed in the suit? Not that I'm not a huge Rocky fan, because I am big time, but just curious....

No reason really. Creed is one of my all-time favorite movie characters. *THIS*

I just change it up every now and again because I get tired of looking at the same avatar.

He's a man who needs no introduction the world round......The king of sting.....the master of disaster....

    I love my Rocky movies...Especially 1 and 2.

The first 'Rocky' is one of those rare movies that seems to be perfectly written with the best possible cast of characters involved.

'The Natural' is right up there with it in that regard and even though it's a comedy I still think 'Major League' is one of the best sports movies ever.

  14. TopDawg Legend

Agreed on Rocky...It's the story. That was a winner all the way....

I could go on and on about sports movies, but the original Rocky is always going to be #1 in my book....I also loved the original "Longest Yard" and "North Dallas Forty"....

    My list of favorite sports movies (in no particular order);

    o Remember the Titans.
    o Tin Cup
    o Rocky I, II, III & V
    o The Replacements
    o The Natural
    o Field of Dreams
    o Draft Day (just kidding)

'Tin Cup' is good for one of those lazy summer Sundays when your on the couch in the afternoon for various reasons. Same with the 'Replacements'. I never seek either one out but if they happen to be on the tube and I'm maxed out they tend to stay on.

  17. TopDawg Legend

All good choices Lyman...Might I add; (in no particular order)

    -Slapshot
    -Caddyshack
    -Any Given Sunday
    -Miracle
    -Raging Bull
    -Rudy
    -Eight men out
    -Mystery Alaska
    -Heaven Can Wait

All good...and surely forgot a few.

I never really liked Kessler. Not because I think he's bad but I think he is more of a career backup kind of guy. Many guys make a career doing that. They aren't the guy anyone wants to build around but are reliable when needed. I would throw him in right away. Find out if you can keep him as a backup moving forward or heck even win the QB job outright. I still think the Browns go QB in round 1. I am likely mistaken but I always thought they were enamoured with DeShaun Watson and even if they don't finish last, with 2 firsts they may have the ammo to make the leap. They can get their QB now without sacrificing the rest of their draft. Even if it's not Watson, at #1 or #2 they are going to get a QB next year.

P.S. I like Hogan way better but Cleveland doesn't seem like they would give him anything over Kessler or McKown.

  19. TopDawg Legend

I never even thought twice about Kessler until the Browns selected him....His numbers at USC warrant the selection. Who know's? Maybe Cody Kessler is the answer we've been looking for....But we all know he's not ready now. Not with this group that has had like 12 reps together...We need Josh McCown. Had Josh started yesterday, there's a very good chance we'd have won that football game....That's the truth. Everybody wants to just throw a blanket over the Browns and call it a wrap, but we were very competitive yesterday in spite of all the obvious mistakes....

bottom line: With McCown we most likely get better, and have legit shot to knock off Ravens...Without McCown, no chance....Easy for other fans to say we should just "throw in the rookie"....in my estimation, that would be disasterous.

  20. TopDawg Legend

Did you see Kessler play in the preseason?? You know he pulled a "Dan Orlovsky" on like his third snap, right?
