Ya like the yr Winston came out....also if u were impressed w Wentz...yikes....if he was good he wuld have thrown over 350 yds easy w the way guys were open
I was more impressed with Philly than the Browns. Then again I don't expect much. I was also more impressed with Wentz than Griffin. Im expecting the Browns to win 2 games if that. I do though expect improvement. After this 1st game there is only one way to go, UP.
Robert Griffin III (left shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Monday and admitted he's "in pain." RGIII hurt his shoulder on a late-game scramble when he was trying to run over Eagles CB Jalen Mills. His arm was dangling at his side, but Griffin stayed in to finish the game. It was enough of a concern for the Browns that Josh McCown was warming up on the sideline. Injuries have been a problem for RGIII the past few years, and he's always put himself in positions to get hurt. It seems inevitable that McCown will make starts this season, maybe as soon as Week 2 against the Ravens.
I hate to tell you Stopper but there is only a handful of players on this team that are NFL material. With the #1 pick in the 2017 NFL draft the Cleveland Browns select................. TRADE DOWN FOR A CHIT LOAD OF PICKS. Be prepared, its going to happen.
Well, I had my sons football game yesterday and the way the score was, I was glad...but as misery loves company, I came home and watched the game and then came on here and was reading the comments..I decided to hold mine until I watched it again. Woke up at 4:30, so I decided to do just that... I just finished the first half and will comment while it is fresh in my mind... I gotta say, as I saw last night, I am not utterly disappointed in the team as a whole. The good: Offense; RGIII, despite the slow start..it was because of drops that the slow start happened. He was rather sharp through out. Crowell, his feet were lightening quick, despite not having many holes to run through. Pryor, his switch to WR is not nearly complete, but he certainly looked like an NFL player, making the needed adjustments that you don't always see in a receiver. Defense; Campbell is actually playing all over the field as a FS safety should, I like what he is doing. Nassib's pre season is carrying over. He puts pressure on the QB even when he doens't get a sack..This guy's motor is extremely high. He will develop into a stud. Ogbah continually puts himself into position to also put pressure on the QB. Remember, these guys are learning on the fly...This defense is SO young, yet they aren't looking as bad as what we saw last year. They will come together after watching films and making adjustments. I really don't know what all the complaints of Shelton are...I know I was high on him coming out, but watching him play, he is doing his job moving the offensive line at will opening lanes for the linebackers to do their job...which leads me to the next... Bad: offense, not enough push on the offensive line. This was the main point I wanted to make in the "bad" category. They must get some run lanes open to create better options for the running backs, which will then also open up the passing game. defense; Not recognizing the play fast enough by the linebackers. The swarm to the ball is occurring in the defensive backfield, giving up too many yards. Ugly: offense; Gary Barnidge, what the hell happened to this guys sure hands? He single handed stopped two drives in this first half early...wasn't seen from after that. Corey Coleman, he has a LONG way to go to being a NFL level receiver. He looks lazy to me. Doesn't make adjustments. I hope he gets away from merely relying on his athleticism, as that isn't enough at this level. defense; #21 Jamar Taylor and #22 Tramon Williams were TERRIBLE in coverage. They will either need to improve their coverage skills drastically, or we need two new CBs in the 2017 off season. Second half good: offense; I like the fact they continued to mix up the offense. I think the playcalling was there, but the execution kind of ruined that. Knowing the playcalling has improved has got to get you excited though. I can't imagine they will regress in carrying it out. These guys haven't been playing together very long. I do believe they will make marked improvement as the year wears on. defense; sorry...that goal line stand would have gone here, if not for the stupidity of Nate Orchard being offside. They were a little more consistent, however, the Eagles playing with the lead also went to a more conservative look. Got to stop the run when that happens. bad: offense; offensive line was getting manhandled. RGIII needs to get into a little better shape as he played a very good first half, but was off in the second. He needs to understand the pocket better. He threw the ball away when there was no pressure, and held the ball when there was pressure all around. defense; This damn zone coverage, it isn't working, especially with the lack of DBs, not named Joe Haden. Not being able to stop the Eagles on 4th and 4 is ridiculous. The Eagles ran almost exclusively to their left in the second half and were rewarded with a lot of yardage. ugly: offense; Yes, Cameron Erving sailing a ball over the head of the QB inside their own 20(not that it is EVER OK)..terrible way to start the second half after your defense comes out of the locker room and gets you a great effort. Inexcusable. RGIII taking big hits when running..GOT TO GO DOWN! Also, inexcusable. defense; I don't necessarily have another ugly...these DBs need to improve their coverage skills if they want to continue playing in this league. summary thoughts: I don't know what in the hell you are complaining about with Joe Haden. Your so called "burn" by Agholar was a misread by the safety Campbell, who reacted so late that he couldn't recover. He still has his skills and it showed, as he was the best DB on the field. You do realize, that CBs in the NFL aren't asked to do EVERYTHING on their own, right? That said, on that particular play, it was a perfect throw..I mean perfect, so I doubt anyone would have helped stop that TD. The bad news is, that ankle will kill his career if he keeps tweaking it. I can't say enough about Nassib..I think this will be the guy that brings this defense back to prominence. He is a coach's dream. Although there wasn't a lot to love about this game, I did see a lot to like....and a whole lot to hate.. This very young team needs time to learn and improve, it may be a very long year, but I do see pieces that can bring it back from the dead. This game was the difference in maturity, not talent. I think the Browns have some stars in the making, but it will take time for them to reach potential...on the other hand they are also decidedly lacking in some areas as well. Final thought: I know our defense is bad...but Wentz may end up being the real deal. He was constantly making the right reads, scanned the field effectively and put balls where only his receivers could get them...nice job rookie. {bad news for our draft pick from Philly in the first round, may not be as high as I had hoped for.}
Handful, means about 5...you are ignorant to NFL talent if you think there are only 5 players on this team with NFL talent/potential. Offense: Joe Thomas Future hall of famer Joel Bitonio quietly consistent John Greco not all pro, but he is definitely NFL material Robert Griffin III (go ahead and knock, this one, but the bulk of yesterday fell on the receivers) He is making reads, he just needs to learn to feel the pocket and stop running into defenders. Isaiah Crowell, is looking very good, I just hope the bad doesn't creep back out with losses Duke Johnson can catch, can run, full package as a complimentary back Josh Gordon, say what you want about his off field baggage, he is a man among boys on the field. Terrelle Pryor looked like a NFL receiver yesterday, and there is still room for improvement Corey Coleman, looked like a rookie yesterday and still managed nearly 70 yards receiving. Barnidge made this offense look bad yesterday killing two potential drives, dropping two first down passes on 3rd down...that said, after last year, no way you can argue he isn't NFL talented. So despite the offensive woes yesterday, the talent on that side of the ball says, they should improve markedly over the course of the season.... Defensive side is much more troubling, but they are also extremely young... Joe Haden, despite the negative remarks, he looks almost back to normal. His plays was quite good yesterday. I think the fact there is a 22 and 21 as the other CBs have some of you thinking it is Joe on some of these plays. He got beat by Agholar, but should have had safety help when you look at the alignment, it wasn't there and it was a perfect throw. otherwise, a very nice game by Joe. Carl Nassib is going to be a star in this league...and he's a rookie I can honestly say those are the only two I am convinced of at this point... However, there are some that are flashing: Emmanual Ogbah showed some flashes, but he has got to improve his run support, or he could become a situational player real fast. Danny Shelton, whom some are calling a bust, is doing his job. He is beating offensive lineman off the ball and pushing them into the backgfield. That is EXACTLY what you ask of your NT. He is almost getting to runners off the corners, which is unheard of from guys at his position...because he isn't making the tackle, you guys are calling him out as a bust...I don't get it. You need to understand the positions and watch the game a little closer, rather than looking at the stat line and passing judgement. Given some time, he could end up being a disruptive force that does accumulate stats, for now, he is definitely doing his job at the very least, at an NFL level. Ibraheim Campbell is a stud tackler, if he can somehow learn how to get in the coverage skills that he needs, he can be a monster. Right now he is lacking in those skills and it puts him on the outside looking in. Honestly, that's all I have seen thus far on that side of the ball... Throw in the fact the special teams are falling way short of helping with field position and it could be a nightmare season for this young squad... But saying the team is devoid of NFL talent is a pretty reckless accusation.
Watched a lot of Browns football yesterday (with the Ravens and Bengals on TVs 2 and 3) and I really liked what I saw. They were in the game for 3 quarters in spite of getting manhandled against the Eagles d-line (a very good one) all day on the road. An improved o-line would have made a huge difference yesterday. Unfair to judge the new front office this early but I will criticize them for not taking the o-line more seriously. How can you develop players when you are getting your ass whipped in the trenches? Inspired effort from a defense that is very limited talent wise IMO. They just ran out of gas. They are going to take their lumps this year unfortunately. I'm not a Haden fan but he didn't stand out to me as playing a poor game. They need to stay healthy on D. Any losses to the starters and it could get real ugly.
Bottom line: Carson Wentz looked pretty damn good, and of course that in turn makes the Browns look pretty damn foolish. Sure didn't take the kid long to punish Cleveland for not taking him. And not just that, the Browns ,for some stupid reason, went into detail last week about how they didn't feel Wentz was a top 20 guy, or whatever the hell it was...It had to feel real sweet yesterday for Carson Wentz.. As for the Browns, they got a looong way to go....Gary Barnidge wasn't the only drive killer in the first half. Didn't Coleman have a huge drop? And how many times did we help them along by jumping offsides? No excuse at all for that. This was a rookie QB shouting the cadence for his first ever NFL game! My gawd....No matter who is in charge, and no matter who is taking the snaps, the Cleveland Browns find a way to look the same, and it's not pretty. Too early to bail, but that was not fun to watch... I know I was talking non-sense (as usual) before the game in an effort to stir conversation, but damn, I really didn't think we would be this lost....Nice "trick play" on 4th down. Who the hell called that, Chuck Pagano??? To top it off, we only had 10 guys on the field for that debacle.....
Oh, and we absolutely must find a replacement in a hurry for Cameron Erving. They say his "natural position" is center, but he's the worst "natural center" in the history of football...HE CAN"T SNAP THE DAMN BALL!! That's a BIG problem for a center....He was rocketing balls high all preseason, and here we are in week one and he's already cost us dearly....Even on the stupid trick play he almost sailed it over Johnson's head, thus insuring the play wasn't gonna work...My mom could have drafted better than this team did from 2012 through 2015, and she knows absolutely nothing about football... We are always starting over because so far nobody has gotten it right....I really hope Paul and Sashi know what the hell they are doing...How much more can we take?
Believe it or not . . . I'm not all doom and gloom after yesterday's game. 34% of the Browns wearing hats were rookies and most of them (not all of them) held their own against a veteran team. Sure, there were breakdowns and mental lapses and sure there were some crazy calls made by the coaching staff. But . . . they performed better than I expected. Bottom line is they looked like a 4 to 5 win team. IF they continue to look like they did yesterday for a few more weeks, I'll start to bitch and moan. Here's my BOLD prediction . . . Kevin Hogan will start at least one or two games at QB for the Browns - THIS YEAR !!!
Well, to defend Paul and Sashi... Coleman (their first rounder) had 69 yards receiving in his first ever game Ogbah (their second rounder) had a pass defensed, tackle and put pressure on the QB Nassib (their 3rd rounder) was disruptive all day, 3 tackles and had a sack in his first ever game Coleman ([2nd] 3rd rounder) did not play Kessler ([3rd] 3rd rounder) did not play Schobert(their 4th rounder) had a tackle and actually didn't play too bad Lewis ([2nd] 4th rounder) did not play, despite Gordon's suspension Kindred([3rd] 4th rounder) had 5 tackles in his first ever game The rest of the draft did not play...however... Taylor, draft day trade, also had 5 tackles...although, his coverage was terrible yesterday Not a bad showing for their first draft...however, their decimation of the roster caused the need for these youngsters to be thrown into the fire to learn. That may be a blessing or a curse for this coaching staff as the year progresses.
lol, that is bold Lym...does this also mean you think Kessler will start at least a game, or that Hogan will leapfrog him from the practice sqaud?
It means that neither RG3 nor Josh McCown will avoid the Injury Report. RG3 is trying too hard to change his style of play causing him to either force BAD throws or hold onto the ball way too long. His competitive nature will (did) take over and he will end up in the trainer's room. Josh's age and style of play will park his ass right next to RG3. Next up is Kessler. I figure it will take Hue about 4 to 5 games to figure out he misjudged Kessler's ability and bench him in favor of Hogan.
I didn't think Griffin played terrible. Yeah, the interception off the tipped ball hurt, and he missed Hawkins wide open for the score on the first drive of the 3rd qtr, but his receivers weren't helping much...Without those two bad throws, we may have won the game actually. Both happened in the red zone and really took the wind out of the sails, but all in all, Griffin seemed okay. Terrelle Pryor bobbled one in the 3rd quarter that might have gone for a long score had he caught it cleanly.... So I agree...It's not ALL doom and gloom. We need a new center....We need better focus from our receivers.....and we need more discipline out of our young defense....If we could shore up a couple of those issues this week, we should compete with Baltimore....Gotta fix the little things...It was a bunch of little things that killed us yesterday...
Sorry, TD but RG3 had a lot more than a couple of bad throws. I agree that the receivers dropped a few but RG3 was either high or behind the receiver on virtually every short to intermediate throw for most of the game. It was obvious to me he was pressing too hard all afternoon. That's not necessarily a bad thing except if, at the same time, he is trying to change his style of play. Ultimately, he did revert back to 2012 RG3 and injured his shoulder in the process.
RG3 looked alright for the 1st half. WRs were dropping passes. But later on he was misreading and overthrowing wide open guys.
