  1. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Sorry, guys. Preseason or not - I haven't seen enough to warrant hope for the 2016 season.

  2. Lym I know we have had some disagreements about this team but I agree with you on this one.

This is/was the worse ran franchise in professional sports for over a decade and a half. To help your sanity don't expect this team to win. They are young and building through the draft. The Browns can say they have some very good skilled position players on this team at WR, TE,RB and yes I will throw in RGIII (if healthy) Besides Garcia he is the most accomplished QB we have had here since this forever rebuild.

This does suck to the die hard Browns fan that want's this team to win but this type of rebuild should have happened 10 years ago. No more smoke being blown up the fans arses, lol They want to cut payroll and build the right way. THROUGH THE DRAFT. If they draft right then this will be a 3 year process.

I read on another post that Haden will be the next to go. I think Gilbert won't make this team. He should be the next to go. JT can get the Browns another 1st rd pick to a playoff team. The Browns are a 3-5 win team with him and he makes a lot of money. So really what good has an all-pro LT done for this team. To a super bowl contender he can make a difference. Look at Mingo last night. He caused 2 fumbles on back to back plays. He is a role player on that team, doesn't have to be a star.

The Browns can't tackle. They have 1 real LB, Kirksey. They have 1 real DB, Haden. I like Nassib and Ogbah. Shelton I feel will be a bust also. This year they addressed DE/OLB and WR. Next year it will be O-line, DB and LB.

Fellas don't expect wins, expect improvement. If you do that you still may enjoy the season. If all else fails........... Turn to the Buckeyes, lol OH..... You all know the rest.

yeah, people always say that to me Els, but I feel it's of little consolation. Sure I love my Buckeyes, they are awesome, but that's two different things. One is played on Saturdays, and one is played on Sundays....We all know the Browns are building through the draft. Believe it or not they've been trying that for the last 17 years. Let's just hope they finally have the right people in place to actually build the team. Every regime promises to get it right. We need to see some actual growth. Clearly these guys (our FO) have shown a knack for stockpiling picks, but as we all know, it won't mean squat if they don't use them properly. ...It's too early to tell on draft number one with current regime, but so far, Nassib and Ogbah do seem to show some promise...

Hard to say how many upsets they will be able to pull off. Looking at the schedule I'd say they will be underdogs every week. I'm still hoping they held a lot back and will surprise us come September 11th...I don't think anybody knows what to expect from Philly this year, but I personally don't think they are going to be that great. Browns will be 6 point underdogs, so that's as good a place as any to pull off an upset if we are going to....

    GO BROWNS!

So if it's not about W's this season, what I really want to see and expect to see is positive production from this draft class...I want to be able to look at Corey Coleman at the end of the season and say, "the Browns got a good one there". Same for Nassib and Ogbah and the rest of this draft class that makes the team....There is no question that the main contributor to the Cleveland Browns' frustrations has been their own inabilities to get it right on draft day....Until this organization figures out how to draft properly, the tires will continue to spin. Being in the AFCN, we certainly don't have to look far to see what happens when it's done right....

Browns traded Justin Gilbert to Steelers.

  6. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

The Browns have traded former first-round cornerback Justin Gilbert to the Steelers, ESPN?s Adam Schefter reported.

A rare in-division trade gives Gilbert a fresh start. He was a disappointment in his first two seasons and made more news off the field than he made plays on it.

The Browns gave him chances to win a role throughout camp and the preseason, but he never really emerged and last week was placed in the league?s concussion protocol. His departure means the Browns now have zero of the six players they drafted in the first round from 2011-14 on their roster.

The Steelers are willing to take a chance on Gilbert because they need secondary depth and Gilbert has some athleticism and potential. Gilbert can also return kicks.

NFL Network reported that the Steelers sent a 2018 sixth-round pick to the Browns for Gilbert.

Like was the case when the Browns traded Barkevious Mingo to the Patriots last month, Gilbert probably wasn?t in the Browns? plans, so getting anything in return for him would have to be considered a bonus.

  7. TopDawg Legend

good riddance...Justin Gilbert is the textbook example of why the Cleveland Browns are where they are...Kalil Mack and Odell Beckham were available, and Ray Farmer went after Justin Gilbert and Johnny.....

It seemed like a good plan....smh

All 14 draft picks made the team. That has to be a record of some kind. Im guessing there is going to be some waiver action coming very quickly.

I just hope they all DESERVED to make the roster.

Replacing veterans with worse players, respectfully, doesn't help a team grow in any way.

I am more worried today, than I was a few months back...Not about a lost season, I half expected that...but the coaches I was excited about don't possess magic wands, as far as I know. They can only do so much with limited talent. On a brighter note, I am extremely excited about these young defensive players taken in the draft, getting them reps aren't necessarily a bad thing...as long as this new administration understand they are allowed to keep them and it isn't as simple as just drafting new ones every year.

This is the one huge difference between baseball and football...a football team needs time to gel together, they must work in absolute unison to get the job done...baseball, is a plug and play sport. If you replace a player and they play the position better, the team is instantly better. In football, the player may have more talent, but if the chemistry is off, the team is actually worse off.

I just hope they ALL know what they are doing...gotta have faith

    Wow! What a draft class

It would be folly to accuse the Browns? front office of roster prejudice following Saturday?s whacking of said roster to 53 players. Or would it?

Perusal of the not-chiseled-in stone-yet final 53 upon closer look reveals what amounts to extreme prejudice with every selection in the last college football draft landing on the list. Yep, all 14 have been deemed ready to play in the National Football League.

It seems the analytical approach that went into reframing ? some would call it rebuilding because that what it really is ? the roster has paid off handsomely. Fourteen picks have translated into 14 roster spots.

Too bad the new members of the Ivory Tower couldn?t have swung another deal or two and picked up even more future contributors to the cause.

When the final slicing and dicing was concluded, the roster looks like this: Three quarterbacks, five running backs, six wide receivers, three tight ends and eight linemen on offense; six linemen, nine linebackers and 10 backs on defense; and the special teamers, the long snapper, punter and placekicker.

Broken down even more, the roster includes 16 rookies, three other players not designated as rookies but who have never played in a regular-season NFL game, eight players in their second season and four more in their third year.

Add them up and you have 31 players with less than four years experience. That is an astonishing 52.8% of the roster.

Missing from the final cuts are wide receiver Josh Gordon and outside linebacker Armonty Bryant, who will each serve a four-game suspension at the beginning of the season.

Perhaps the most surprising move of the day involved cornerback Justin Gilbert, the Browns? No. 1 pick a couple of years ago. Not that he didn?t make the final roster. The surprise was the Browns found a willing trade partner, shipping the third-year man to AFC North rival Pittsburgh for a sixth-round pick in 2018.

It?s extremely rare in the NFL to see an intra-division deal. The last one in memory was in 2006 when the Browns agreed to swap first-round picks (it was just a one place move down) with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected defensive lineman Haloti Ngata.

Ngata, who plays now for Detroit, went on to become a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro. The Browns, whose draft history since the resurrection is sketchy at best, took linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, who retired prior to the 2015 season as a member of the Oakland Raiders.

New faces on the Cleveland roster this season ? there are 27 of them and, yep, that?s slightly more than half the team ? include rookie free agents Tracy Howard, a cornerback, and inside linebacker Dominique Alexander.

This, of course, will not be the roster that opens the regular season a week from Sunday in Philadelphia. There most likely will be some movement once players from all around the league clear waivers and the 10-man practice squads are set.

Rumors already have the Browns signing Britton Colquitt of the famous Colquitt punting family to replace Michael Palardy, who beat out Kasey Redfern on the not-so-final 53. He was cut by Denver a few days ago after spending seven seasons as the Broncos? punter.

Colquitt?s father Craig punted for Pittsburgh from 1978 to 1984 and older brother Dustin has been Kansas City?s punter since 2005.

The signing of veteran burly defensive tackle Stephen Paea, if nothing else, gives the defensive line some experience. The 28-year-old free agent, who logged four seasons with Chicago and played sparingly with Washington last season, has 13? career sacks.

He arrives with the right attitude. ?One man?s trash is another man?s treasure,? he tweeted ?God is good. #DAWGPOUND #Cleveland Browns.? He?ll learn soon enough.

It will be interesting to see how coordinator Ray Horton schemes his defense with Paea aboard. The lack of a decent pass rush moved Horton, a 3-4 devotee, to experiment with four-man fronts featuring rookies Carl Nassib and Emmanuel Ogbah on the flanks during the exhibition season.

Paea could be paired with Danny Shelton or Jamie Meder on the inside to provide insurance against the running game in a 4-3 set.

As for other areas, expect some movement in the heavily populated secondary as waiver scanning continues throughout the weekend. Ten is one too many back there.

As for the offense, new quarterback Robert Griffin III will have a receivers corps in the first four games consisting of four rookies, a converted quarterback (Terrelle Pryor) still in the learning phase of his new position, and Smurfish Andrew Hawkins, who has had numerous concussions. Good luck with that.

All of which probably means coach Hue Jackson most likely will rely heavily on the ground game and a short passing game as he attempts to pump some life into what was a moribund offense in the exhibitions. Lack of a quality offensive line won't help.

If The Third is forced to throw the ball anywhere from 25 to 35 times a game, that probably will mean a rout is in progress. Judging from the roster makeup now, it looks as though that very well might be the case.

    And 2 UDFAs as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns added another 5-6 players via the waiver wire today. That seems to be their modus operandi. WW claims are announced at noon.

Well it's one of two things....an amazing draft class? or the fact that the new bosses weren't that impressed with what was already here? I tend to lean toward the latter, but with high hopes...

I'm a little surprised they all made it. lol! You can't tell me all those young WR's are better than Taylor Gabriel right now, but this makes sense...It was to be expected I suppose. We know Hue loves the bigger WR's...So we kept Hawkins, and I guess that's all the 5'6" receivers we need...

A bit behind in reading up on the Browns' transactions lately. Just read we traded Gilbert two days ago to the Steelers. What were they smoking and what'd we get for him? Couldn't find any details on the trade.

    Hey fellow lounge Houndz *DANCE*

I can't say that I'm surprised with the complete overhaul of the Browns roster. New regime, new philosophy, new way of doing things.

I wish I had more optimism for the upcoming season. With all the new faces and lack of time working together, I can only hope for development of the young players and signs that this team has a chance to get better week to week.

Once again the pundits are going to rag on the Browns especially when players like Mingo and Gilbert show signs of playing like we once hoped they would.

Lets just hope we steal one against Philly with the Rookie QB starting.

  18. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Yes, winning in Philly would be a nice way to not go straight into 2017 draft mode. We haven't won an opener in like 12 years. It would be nice to stop that streak.

Well, for whatever it's worth, the LV line went from +6 to +4 when they traded Bradford.....Who knows? Maybe the Browns can sneak one out. They better, because if Carson Wentz shreds them, the critics will be out in full force...Somehow the NFL got exactly what they hoped for with this early season match-up...
