Do you really think there is another team out there that will offer him a contract without that language in it? If there is, then have at it...let them take the chance. At that point, he can collect his paycheck and smoke a doobie on his way to Vegas... I believe his next contract will be incentive laden and very few guarantees..
I think there will b some type of language in his contract, but 2 think they both(agent and Gordon) will settle on a contract w/out some type of guaranteed $ is crazy
OK, either I disagree, or totally agree (with you) how ever you want to look at it. I think they have let undesirable contracts go, giving them more leeway into the future to re-sign those that they deem are the heart of this team. I liked Tashon Gipson, and I believe he had a lot of talent...however, he wasn't in the top 5 safeties in the NFL and that is how he expected to get paid. My problem was his injury history. If I am running a franchise, I am looking for players that can stay on the field. Right now on this roster, I have my eye on Joe Haden and Josh Gordon. Two top talents who haven't been able to stay on the field the last couple of seasons. Haden is one of my favorite Browns, but 4 years ago..11 games, then two years in a row of 15 games, then last year 5 games..I can handle the 15 game seasons, but missing 5 games or more in a season is a way out the door imho. It's also why I have no problem paying Joe Thomas...and would have liked them to cough up coin for Mitchell Schwartz. Schwartz was a mid tier player who became one of the best at his position due to consistency. If they can get consistent at every position, then this team starts winning games. Right now, we have Thomas, Bitonio and Greco on the line. Hopefully that consistency will echo in Erving and the line will be pretty well set. We have Barnidge who has been here for 4 years and was just re-signed, the TE group is taken care of. We need consistency in the WR department, and with the sudden influx of talent there, one can only hope this group will be together for 4-8 years. The most important glue to that puzzle is the QB...we MUST identify a guy we can stick with and let the offense grow around him. RGIII has looked pretty damn talented so far in this young season, hopefully the chance they took on him pays off. Defensively, we have had pretty much a revolving door...Joe Haden is the one player that has stuck thus far. If he stays healthy, he will need to lead this group of young guns into a new age of Browns defense. Right now, I think there is a lot of talent on this team and they need time to grow into NFL professionals. Guys with 3 or more years left on their current contracts: Haden (4 years) John Hughes (4 years) That's it for veteran leadership... Then you have the young guns drafted over the past 2 off seasons: Danny Shelton (4 years, with his team option) Emmanuel Ogbah(4 years) Nate Orchard(3 years) Xavier Cooper(3 years) Carl Nassib(4 years) and looking like a stud Joe Schobert(4 years) Scooby Wright III(4 years) Derrick Kindred(4 years) Ibraheim Campbell(3 years) Charles Gaines(3 years) Trey Caldwell(4 years) Paul Kruger(2 years), Desomond Bryant(2 years, Tramon Williams(2 years), Barko Mingo(1 year), Justin Gilbert(2 years), Demario Davis(2 years), Rahim Moore(1 year), Tank Carder(2 years), Christian Kirksey(2 years) and Pierre Desir(2 years)....all of whom are in put up or shut up mode. Any player on this list can be cut at any time and the Browns would not take a huge financial hit. I really think the offense will show marked improvement this year. I also believe the defense will have some major growing pains, but can learn a lot in this season to build upon next. I think as we stand right now, this team can win 7-9 games, just based on what I hope to be competent coaching. They are on the right track. They need to grow into a team, then the sky is the limit.

lol! I apologize Irish...After re-reading it, I thought it was a little vague, and I wasn't sure of the details, as far as what led Dominik to his harsh conclusion about the Browns FO....I just heard Mike and Mike discussing his remark, and they both disagreed with him as I did...Since I wasn't certain of how the conversation went, I deleted the post because I didn't feel like lobbing soft balls up for showstopper... Basically from what I understand, former NFL exec Mark Dominik (ESPN) made the remark that it's obvious to him that the Browns have completely given up on this season long ago...He said they let all the talent leave via free agency and have had their focus on 2017 season all along....I just think it's bullshit. You can't tell me that this organization is just mailing it in this season...I don't buy it for a second. In fact, I think they have MORE reason for optimism around here than they have for a long time.... ok stopper.....hack away.
Patriots acquired DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo from the Browns. The return compensation is unclear, but like many August trades, it's probably a conditional day-three pick. The No. 6 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Mingo has been a comprehensive bust, tallying seven career sacks, only two of which have come in the past two seasons. The Pats are low on edge depth, however, and Mingo was drafted by Patriots guru Mike Lombardi in Cleveland. He'll start on special teams and fight for snaps on defense.
I've got a few four letter words to describe Mike Lombardi, but "guru" sure as hell isn't one of them.
It just says he'll start on special teams and fight for snaps. Safety may still be in his future.... *CRAZY*
Somebody in the FO better see if NE might be interested in Gilbert as well as long as they're trading for roster bubble players.
Nothing needs 2 b said other than I agree w Mark....this season isnt going anywhere so as I stated earlier trade guys away...that process started w Mingo(stinks), but u get the point, Gordon shuld b next....learn from ur previous mistakes
They should have made that part of the deal...if you take one, you must take the other and the Browns will even throw in a draft pick to take them off our hands.
Stopper, don't you have a practice to go coach or something? How are you on the message boards at 3:00 in the afternoon?
I actually understand you for a change stopper...if you are talking about getting rid of Mingo and Gilbert...but why trade away Gordon for scraps? That would be so stupid at this point...at best, Gordon can dominate the game. At worst, the patience we have shown doesn't pay off.. Its just not worth it to trade Gordon away for late round pick..the potential far out weighs the risk in keeping him.
