TAMPA, Fla. ? The Browns have no interest in trading Josh Gordon, a team source told cleveland.com. ESPN reported Tuesday morning that multiple teams have inquired about trading for the 2013 Pro Bowler, but that the Browns aren't interested. Gordon, who's been suspended for 27 of his last 32 games, was activated last week and has looked good in practice. "He's fast, long, tall, big and can catch,'' coach Hue Jackson said of Gordon, who's suspended for the first four games of the season for violations of league policy. Gordon, set to make his preseason against the Bucs Friday night, has been getting first-team reps and is becoming a favorite target of his good friend Robert Griffin III. "What's important is that I don't really know him yet as a football player,'' said Jackson. "I'm learning and I need to see what he's able to do. He's talented, obviously. He has a lot of talent. The more I can see him and feel him before because he'll be away and not able to do that, the more I can understand when he gets back and he can hit the ground running the right way. "It's important for him to be out there with those guys. It's important for him to be with the ones because I think he's going to be one of our better players. We have to put him out there and see what he is capable of doing." Gordon's encouraging practices haven't been lost on his teammates. "He still looks the exact same and it's just crazy,'' cornerback Joe Haden said. "He looks a little bigger. I don't know how that happened, but he's still out there running around, looking the same, running his routes, floating. It still looks effortless.'' Former Browns CEO Joe Banner had an opportunity to trade Gordon in 2013, but opted not to take a second-rounder and a player from the 49ers. Gordon went on to be suspended for 10 games in 2014 and all of 2015, but said he is serious about making a comeback this year. He said last week upon his return to practice that not only is he the same guy that led the league in 2013 with 1,646, but also that he can be better.
Read this report earlier today, Duff. I believe the key is Jackson's comments about not knowing Gordon well enough yet to take a chance on losing a valuable WR. That's fair of Hue not to make a decision based on what he's heard or read in the media. But, I also believe if Gordon has one more backslide Hue will show him the door for good. I'd be okay with that too. Rok *BYE*
How's it going Rok? I agree with you 100% on Gordon. I think Hue believes he'll have one hell of a WR group if Gordon stays clean and keeps his nose to the grindstone. At this point, nobody would trade much for Gordon since he is a hair away from a lifetime ban. He's worth more to keep hoping that he's matured and put the weed behind him. If Gordon stays clean and plays for years to come (and RG3 rebounds - I know, it's a lot of if's) they could be set at WR for years to come. Just gotta get the DEF going now. Maybe it'll be an all DEF draft next season if they stink up the join this year.
Nobody is gonna offer any kind of a decent draft pick for Gordon due to the fact he's on his last chance. He's capable of being a top 5 or 10 WR. He's worth more to the Browns by far. You put provisions into the future contract that void everything or cause repayment of signing bonus if Gordon gets suspended or banned again. Also, there's the fact that the Browns aren't on the hook for any further salary if Gordon gets suspended/banned. Pretty simple........if only you would just rub those last two brain cells together now and again. ......sigh.......
Just for the record, Josh Gordon has no more "second chances" coming. If he mis-steps again, it won't matter what Hue thinks, because it'll be Roger Goodell showing Josh the door for good.....
And that's why no one will offer squat in a trade for Gordon. And why the Browns have nothing to lose if they keep him and later re-sign him. They know what he can do on the field and he has to prove how he'll behave off the field. If not, then "so long Josh Gordon."
You sign him to a long term deal with as many poison pills attached as needed to collectively cover your ass. Pretty simple really...
Oh ya and his agent will just say go ahead Sashi write out the contract...whatever u say u will just sign it...smh
the funny thing is my 2 little brain cells wuld have warranted me a 2nd or 3rd round pick when SF offered it 2 me...bye bye Josh thanks for getting me something back while u sit around 4 a couple of yrs....hell I may have had Jarvis Landry or Allen Robinson by now in round 2
