The Cavs didn't just win one for their basketball fans, but the City of Cleveland and all that has gone with the "drought" I was glad to read articles like this:
The AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians are riding a six-game winning streak and are 15-6 this month, including 11-0 at home. So, to what should they attribute their success? Perhaps to the same higher power that famed Indians slugger Pedro Cerrano once credited for his power. Yes, the Indians have constructed a shrine to Jobu, one that would make the "Major League" cast proud. It sits between the lockers of second baseman Jason Kipnis and first baseman Mike Napoli and features Jobu figurines, several bottles of rum and a sweater that says: "It is very bad to drink Jobu's rum. Very bad." "We've had Jobu there for a little bit," Kipnis told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He's been working. He didn't like the first airport vodka we left him. So we tried Bacardi (rum) and that seems to be working. Right now it's working so we're not going to mess with what works."
Because of a condition I was born with I was never able to play sports beyond little league, but we are the home of the best small school football and baseball powers in the state of Ohio at Newark Catholic.,...Jeff Uhlenhake (Center- Ohio St, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints) was just two years ahead of me in school. Dude was a beast....Also Rob Kelly (Safety- Ohio St. and New Orleans Saints) was a first rd NFL draft pick by Mike Ditka, is from Newark Catholic program. He was about four years younger than me, but a tremendous athelete......Current Texas Ranger pitcher , Derek Holland is from Newark also, but he's much younger than me. Good kid though. He contributed a lot to the Newark LL baseball facility that he grew up playing in, and it's real nice. Much better than when I played there in the late 70's.....There's been a few others that excelled, but those are the best known names from my area......There was a great football lineman that graduated with my dad from Newark High School back in the day. His name was Jim Tyrer. Lyman or Bluez might remember him...He played a long time for Hank Stram's Kansas City Chiefs, though his story ended in tragedy......That's about it from my neck of the woods...
Build that wall NOW !!! Keep the talentless little weasel down there :! In case Johnny Manziel?s father is wondering if his tough love message last week got through, the answer seems to be a resounding ?No.? The former Browns quarterback just posted a photo on Instagram of himself at a resort in Mexico, wearing a Josh Gordon jersey and celebrating how good he thinks he has it. The message includes the oh-so-rebellious hashtag #hiDad, which doesn?t suggest that the son was very receptive to his father calling him a ?druggie? and saying he hoped he went to jail. Of course, Manziel also made it clear Gordon wasn?t with him. Though the two are friends, Gordon?s probably relieved he pointed that out. After all, Gordon?s trying to get reinstated, and apparently taking the steps needed to achieve that goal.
I really get tired of seeing everything that boy does attached to Browns news sections. He is not a Brown, he is not in the NFL. This garbage about him should be in whatever section of 'news' you would read about Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton.
Browns sign Nassib; All 14 draft picks signed Fred Greetham 4:16 PM The Browns announced the signing of third-round draft pick Carl Nassib from Penn State, the last of the 14 draft choices to sign BEREA, Ohio-- They're all accounted for. The Browns announced that they have signed DL Carl Nassib on Wednesday, who was the final remaining draft choice to have not signed a contract. Nassib (6-7, 275) was selected in the third-round (65th overall) after leading the nation with 15.5 sacks and six forced fumbles last season at Penn State. Nassib was an All-American last season and won the Lombardi Award, Ted Kendricks Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy in 2015. He was also the Big Ten Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the year. Yes, it originated at TMZ and it should die at TMZ...the sports outlets picking up these stories is what makes it blow up.
Speaking of Bluez' boy . . . it's been reported that the NFL has suspended Manziel for the first four games of the 2016 season. That's good news for Johnny, he can now play in 12 games. Oh, wait . . .
CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Browns second-year quarterback Connor Shaw, who was waived on Thursday, will go down in club history as No. 22. No, not his jersey number. He was the 22nd quarterback to start a game for the Browns since 1999. He did so as a rookie in Baltimore in the 2014 season finale, when Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel were both injured. He gutted it out through an injury of his own during the 20-10 loss. "Connor Shaw went out there and battled," former coach Mike Pettine said a day later. "Here's a kid who was peeing blood last night. He took a shot in the kidney. He took some major shots in the game and got up. It's just a credit to him he wasn't coming out. He showed some things yesterday." In his lone start for the Browns, Shaw completed 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards with an interception and fumble lost. He finished with a 55.2 rating ? but had the Browns up 10-3 going into the fourth quarter. "He went out there and made some plays for this football team," former safety Donte Whitner said at the time. "He kept his mouth closed and he worked all year. He came out here and gave us a fighting chance." Pro Bowl offensive tackle Joe Thomas was equally impressed. "He's a quarterback that belongs in the NFL," Thomas said. "It wasn't perfect, but he did such a great job." Shaw, signed by the Browns as undrafted free agent in 2014 out of South Carolina, suffered a broken thumb in a preseason game last summer and sat out the season after undergoing surgery. But in April, at South Carolina's Pro Day, he told The State newspaper that he hoped to challenge for the starting job in an open competition. "The thumb feels great. I've been training throughout the season and off-season. My body feels good," Shaw said. "I've got calls from coach Hue (Jackson) and the personnel department. They're open for competition, so I'm no stranger to that." With Shaw gone, the Browns are down to four quarterbacks heading into training camp, according to their order in team drills: Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Cody Kessler and Austin Davis.
Seriously though, McCown and Davis both have to be on the roster bubble with Pryor capable of being the QB3 or the emergency QB and Hue being enamored of Kessler.
Why would McCown be on the bubble ?? he is the best QB on the roster and a great locker room presence .when his playing days are over with I would hire him in some capacity . Do you really want RGME mentoring Kessler or any other QB ?? Jury still out IMHO on where his head is at .
No I want Robert Griffin III to focus on learning the offense because HE is the best QB on this roster and if he can learn Hue's offense, it gives this team the best chance at getting wins on Sunday. No mentoring, every QB in that room is starting on the same page, learn the offensive playbook. They don't have time to mentor. That is for this coaching staff that has been assembled to do.
HAPPY FRIDAY LOUNGE HOUNDZ *YAHOO* Hope you all have a happy and safe Fourth of July *DRINK* This one if for Duff Spoiler
Hey Lounge Houndz, Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Just dropped in as I have a few extra minutes this am. I actually went to High School and played football with Corey Widmer (NYG 1992-1999) *YES* Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe. Training camp can't get here soon enough...
Gotta agree with Irish. The coaches should be teaching the new QB. That and McCown's age and I have to believe that his injuries last year may be a concern. IMO they're probably going with 3 QB's (or two and a half?) with Pryor being WR/QB3. Don't get me wrong Bluez. I like McCown a lot. Just think the team's heading toward the youth movement and re-building. RG3 is more than likely going to be the starter as long as he can grasp the playbook and has learned his lessons and changed his RG-ME ways. I just can't see them keeping 4 QB's (I'm including Pryor here).
He played his heart out last year set franchise records and got the hell beat out of him . IMHO he is still the best QB on the roster and gives us the best chance to win . RG.. has proven nothing but that he is a head case & a diva . I wouldn't pull the plug on a class act like McCown to soon .there is still gas in the tank .
