I didn't play against any drafted players, but my brother in law, that I mentioned catching for, went to Kent State and was drafted by the Tigers in the 32nd round in 1990. He played his rookie season at A Niagara Falls, then went to Advanced A Lakeland the next two seasons, but never advanced past that, 3 elbow surgeries later his career was over before it really ever began. Our area claim to fame was Orlando Pace, who played at rival Sandusky High School... although he was 4 years behind me in school, so I never got to play against him either.... I did however wrestle against d. Kevin Randleman, who also went to Sandusky High. RIP, it was sad news to hear about the former MMA champion. He was in a heavier weight class than I was, but after the District Tourneys, we held practice with Sandusky High and Sandusky St. Mary's both my Junior and Senior year to get ready for Regionals..so I wrestled him in practice sessions.
My nephew played with Orlando at Sandusky. In my first job after getting out of the service, I worked with Kevin Randleman's father. You couldn't meet a better family.
Twinsburg had Cavs assistant, Xavier Alumni, NBA Champ with Heat/Celtics, 17th overall pick James Posey and his good friend NFLer Kelly Herndon. Both were a few years ahead of me and I didn't get to play against or with either. It was pretty interesting to have 2 guys from my high school, who were good friends, each in their championship in the same year. Both should have won but Herndon was on the Seahawks when they were robbed. I did work out next to Herndon at the Twinsburg weight room/community center. He was rehabbing an injury I believe it was before he signed with Denver. Guy was solid...could definitely tell he put the work in.
I did play against Pace for 2 years. I went to North Ridgeville after my parents divorced my soph. year. Sandusky beat us by 17 my Jr year and by 13 my Sr. year. He was very quick for a huge man. I wrestled also. Being a state placer and growing up in North Ridgeville I knew Randleman or should say knew of him. Lym if your nephew played with Pace then I would of played against him, lol. Small world I guess.
Oh when I was at Elyria Catholic I played against Lake Catholic and Joe Jurovisous, lol Cant spell it. He was a Sr. I was a Soph. He caught 4 balls, 65 yds. and a TD against me,lol Im 5'10 he was what 6'2-6'3. He seemed huge too. We did beat them though. Another guy I play with was Torrence Stanton. He was drafted by the Pirates. Out of Elyria West. I caught him in AAU summer ball. Threw about 92 not fast but hard. I think he played 1st in the minors and made it to AA I think. I believe he owns a baseball type camp in Lorain
Crowder played at Crestwood...yes he was tough...Matt Kata from Iggy and I also played against Orlando Pace 2 name a few..we opened up w Sandusky my Jr and Sr yr...team wasn't that good
Congrats Cavs. What a series and game 7. You guys earned the title and keys to the city for life! Awesome job. *DRINK* *DRINK*
The Curse is lifted...paving the way for more championships to come!! Next up MLB Champions, then the Holy Grail, The Lombardi Trophy!!! Great game last night!
This is from Cleveland.com. Made me think of my Dad who passed away almost 3 years ago. Fitting tribute that the Cavs won it all on Fathers' Day.
Forgot to mention that I woke my 9-year old son up last night with 3 minutes left in the game. Figured I'd fully indoctrinate him into the heartbreak it is to be a Cleveland fan, when Golden State pulled the rug out from under the Cavs. And hallelujah, the Cavs delivered a Championship. I just hope he doesn't have to wait another 50 years for Cleveland to win something else. At least I have this winning moment to share with him. Hopefully the Tribe keeps up their winning ways. The 2016 Commissioner's Trophy would look great next to the 2016 Larry O'Brien Trophy.
it would've been great if he said "Dad, they will lose like they always do, so put me back to bed!" hahahahahaha
Thank goodness he hasn't had a lifetime of disappointment like many of us Cleveland fans. He's getting off on the right foot. Funny thing is, Catfish, I nearly went to bed myself before it was over since I couldn't stand the thought of them losing on another Jordan-esque shot at the last second. But, being a Cleveland fan, I just couldn't stop myself from watching and bracing for the "usual inevitable results." I think it's the masochist gene that's inherent in all us Cleveland fans. Like slowing down to look at an accident. That and the deep hope that "maybe this will be the year"......... And it finally is!!!!!!!!
when james hit that 1 free throw after getting hurt, i thought it was over and GST needed 2 possession witn 11.1 sec left. curry was dribbling all around and the clock was winding down. he was trying to get a foul with a lean, but Love backed off but still played defense. then he launched a brick and when it missed, then it was OVER. Happy for Cleveland. A long-time coming!
