    Crazy Crex?s Draft Musings: *WRITE*

Ok fellow lounge Houndz, now that we?ve all had a bit of time to digest the ?new? way of approaching the draft and looking at the draft as a whole and not individual players and where or when they drafted. I do like what they?ve done in addressing roster needs, and setting up future drafts. Having 6 picks in the first three rounds next year should help develop a solid foundation of talent for the roster.

I agree Lym some of the comments that these people make are rather humorous, while others come across as complete idiots? Like that jackass from CBS that gave Cleveland an F grade just because they didn?t draft Carson Wentz. *ROSE*

You?re right we won?t truly know how well they did for 2-3 years. Some will shine sooner than others, but it usually takes that long for them to adjust to the level of play in the NFL.

    *THUMBSUP*
Let?s hope he makes it. My guess is he?ll get stashed on the practice squad.

This apparently flew beneath the radar but, the Browns declined the 5th year option on Barkevious Mingo.

Looks like the ball is firmly in his court.

Not entirely surprised. He hasn't put up the kind of production that warrants 12mil for one season. I do hope that he plays well this year and that they Browns work out a contract extension before he hits FA.

  5. If he has a decent yr why wuld any player go back after their option was declined? Not that I expect him 2 have a good yr, but I'm sure he's like Mack and has 1 foot out the door

After the draft, not sure how much of a chance to excel he will have. He's gained 25 pounds so far, it will take time to learn how to play with that weight. If they see ANYTHING from him in training camp, they can offer him an extension that doesn't include that extra 0 per year. No way is he worth $12M...if he isn't worth that, then you let him walk if he wants to because he can be replaced.

I agree that he?s not worth top 2-3 OLB $$$, but he has improved his play in coverage and I feel that he has been underutilized by the previous DC in other areas.

Mingo?s best season (Rookie) was with Ray Horton as the DC. So Mingo is familiar with the things that Horton likes to do. Going back to the previous discussion on the LB thread we had regarding Mingo, Horton has something in mind to utilize his skill set.

I don?t think that drafting Ogbah and Nassib jeopardizes Mingo?s chances to excel under Horton despite putting on 25 lbs of muscle. I think that out of the veteran OLB?s currently under contract I think that Bryant is the one that will have a tough time sticking on the roster. Also depending on how the season plays out Kruger may end up being an analytics casualty as well.

I agree, but until he starts producing he isn't worth $12M...IF he miraculously produced at that level, they will still have a chance to re-sign him to a normal contract, rather than a one year extension. If he does excel, as a player, he should be able to contribute that to Horton, in which case he should want to stay in Cleveland to play for him. If he excels, he should be rewarded, not rewarded in hopes that he excels.

His representation nearly asked for a trade last season.

He's gone after 2016. Hence the reason we took Ogbah at #32.

    This. +1

In general, we've been poor to really poor at pressuring opposing quarterbacks, which in turn makes an already suspect secondary look even worse. If Horton can get some more blood out of those stones, I'm all for it.

Personally, I see our pass rushers getting revamped not only this season, but again in the 2017 draft.

Kruger doesn't have much to offer. Orchard was hot garbage last season. I'm really excited for Ogbah, I just hope he can learn to set the edge (none of our current OLB's can do that, to be honest).

As I just mentioned, his team nearly asked for him to be traded last season. He just got his fifth year declined and he's going to be playing for his fourth defensive coordinator in four years. I see him gone regardless.

    Same for me, Bluez.

( Except for Mano. His shrubbery is probably going up in smoke. *HIGH* )

Lucky for me, my shrubberies are safe here in Ontario, but its scary as hell what's happening in Alberta. Appreciate the sentiment everybody.

  19. I wish I knew how 2 retrieve a post, but I thought pretty highly of Ogbah and then I watched his film....this was probably in March.....I thought he was very soft, but gave a breakdown....looks the part, but wasnt impressed

    Free Agency, Part Deux

I am curious if the Browns will pick up any free agents off the street now that the compensatory restrictions are lifted...see in the article below:

Not sure if any of these names excite anyone, but I can see this regime waiting for this period to end to begin looking at adding free agents...

So, as of now, we should have (2) 4th round and (1) 5th round comp pick, with another 4th rounder being traded in this past draft.
