They aren't trading out of a round for a bunch of 5-6 rounders...Thus far, they passed on the iffy QB, moved back to #8 and added another 3rd and 4th, another 1st next draft and another 2nd in 2018..Those in 2017 and 2018 are starter caliber players being added to the roster. Then, they lost out on their "list" wanted a receiving playmaker, so they found a trade partner that will add another 3rd rounder this year and a 2nd rounder next year AND got their #1 rated receiver on their board... Now, if they trade down with Dallas, it is most likely for something like a 2017 4th rounder, which can be another player or trade currency, but most likely they will get a player two spots later that they would have taken at 32...
Ok Irish a few things: Agreed, so far they have done a good job positioning themselves. As we all know the #2 pick in the first round holds more value than the second pick in the later rounds. So, please explain how does trading down 3 slots w/ DAL will net those 4-5 more value picks? I can realistically see the fourth you are discussing or maybe a future third, so that gives you one extra pick and not 4-5. What I DO NOT SEE is adding 4-5 more picks without trading out of the third round. Which, IMHO, is where they can get players NOW that can make a significant difference on the roster now and the immediate future. How I interpret the comment of picking up another 4-5 picks means trading one or more of the third round picks for LATER ROUND GUYS( 4-7) that may or may not have any IMPACT on the current or future roster. I guess I just don?t see getting much value out of a bunch of fourth round or later picks this year or in the future. Which, IMHO, is what the Browns are likely to get from this point forward in this draft. IMHO why waste current 3rd round picks moving down (players in this draft who would add needed depth on the current roster Currently 3 selections) on 4-5 additional picks that may/may not result in providing that depth with the possibility that additional player or two that may be gems from a bunch of 4-7 rounder?s that may or may not make a roster this year or in the future. Sure you can find that gem once in a while that everyone missed, but realistically how often does that happen? I guess if you throw enough darts and you will eventually hit a bullseye. Given the current state of the roster I?d prefer to add guys that offer a better chance of contributing than throwing 12-13 darts at a board and hoping one or two get close.

Just got home.... Nothing on Ogbah?? He should be a nice addition to the defense. I actually thought he would end up in the first round. Like, Bosa though, I think he takes plays off, that will have to change in the NFL.
Last two picks: Big12 Defensive Player of the Year B1G Defensive Player of the Year Combined for 28.5 sacks last year, 35 tackles for loss...
Wahoo!!!! I really like both picks. Both players are solid round 2-3 picks good job by the the Brian trust IMHO.... Not sure about the Trade w/ the Panthers yet. we'll see
I'm thinkin pass rush was a priority for "moneyball"...we have last years NCAA sack leader, AND the runner up....Dawgs gettin after the QB! WOOF!
Thanks Irish. Go Nerds!!!!!!! Absolutely stoked with how they're running this dtaft. Getting talent and and future picks. Most excited I've been since we got Kosar. But it just will take another couple of years to come to fruition. Please let Haslam give these guys at least 4-5 years to show what they have.
Crex, nice call on Connor Cook....Looks like the scouts that matter agree with you... I thought on day 1, he was our target for pick for #32, with perhaps even a slight move up....But the second that we took the WR from Baylor, I knew that wasn't gonna be the plan.. Can't say I saw Cody Kessler coming.... Though I'm intrigued....I had just heard a couple days ago that he was a fast riser and someone I should consider as a real possibility to the Browns...smh....I didn't give it any credence at all. *CRAZY*
Like Nassib, but did not like Ogbah....not sure when I wrote bout him earlier in the draft discussion, but once I watched his film....I wasnt impressed at all....Kessler? Yikes
Hue Jackson on new Browns' QB Cody Kessler: "You've got trust me" Hayden Grove 12:27 AM Browns head coach Hue Jackson is taking full responsibility for Cleveland's selection of USC QB Cody Kessler in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. BEREA, OHIO? Hue Jackson heard the frustrations of fans and the questions from critics following Cleveland?s selection of USC quarterback Cody Kessler in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Friday. He had one simple response. ?I understand where everybody is coming from,? Jackson said, ?but you?ve got to trust me on this one.? Taking full responsibility for his shiny, new quarterback, Jackson, the supposed QB guru, felt that Kessler was the best option for the Browns for one overarching reason. ?Because this guy, young man has pinpoint accuracy,? Jackson said. Jackson is not wrong in his assertion, at least when referring to the numbers. Over his four years with the Trojans, Kessler completed 67.5% (851-for-1261) of his pass attempts for 10,339 yards, 88 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, helping Jackson to prove his point that the quarterback can play. ?Tremendous, tremendous touchdown-interception ratio, knows how to play in a pro style offense, has a lot of characteristics that we look for in a quarterback,? Jackson said. ?Doing a lot of work on him, it showed that way.? While the numbers work in Kessler?s favor, there are a few factors working against the former Trojan. First of all, Kessler stands at 6?1, 220 pounds, making him a bit smaller than the prototypical NFL QB. Then comes Kessler?s arm strength, which has been questioned throughout the evaluation process. Finally, there comes the drop-off in production from Kessler's junior year to his senior year. As a junior, Kessler threw for 3,826 yards and 39 touchdowns with just five interceptions, before throwing for 3,536 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a senior. Jackson addressed all of the aforementioned ?issues? and had an answer for each, starting with the quarterback?s size. ?(Size), that?s never been the deal for me,? Jackson said. ?It?s about playing quarterback ? can you play quarterback and win in this league and do you have the characteristics that we feel are very important.? When it comes to the lack of arm strength, Jackson, again, feels that it's an overrated characteristic. He also feels that Kessler overcomes it with incredible accuracy. ?Accuracy ? can he throw the ball straight and accurate to the person that he is throwing it to,? Jackson said. ?If he can?t do that, he can?t play in the National Football League very long. He does that as well as anybody, in my opinion, in this draft.? The significant drop-off in Kessler?s numbers from his junior year to senior season? Easy. ?Coaching change, it makes a huge difference,? Jackson said, referring to USC's switch from Steve Sarkisian to Clay Helton in the middle of the 2015 season. ?Anywhere across the National Football League or college football, I think that all affects every man and young man differently.? Though he acknowledged the drop in production, Jackson felt that Kessler maintained the most important aspect of his game, even as his numbers dwindled. ?Obviously, you change systems, you do things a little bit different than what you?ve been accustomed to,? Jackson said. ?He was still very accurate. He almost completed 68% of his passes.? After dispelling all of the aforementioned issues, there was still a lingering concern. Even if Kessler was the guy for the Browns, why did the team feel it needed to take the quarterback at the end of the third round, far before he was expected to be off the board. Again, the answer from Jackson was simple. ?We wanted to add another quarterback to our room,? Jackson said. ?We thought it was the right time for this guy to be on our football team.? It remains to be seen what will come of Cody Kessler as a Cleveland Brown, but Jackson remains extremely confident in his guy. The fans, though they may not be as confident as the coach, will simply have to wait? and trust? and see. ?We really think this guy is the right fit for us and for our football team,? Jackson said. ?(I am) very excited about him.? For all of your Browns news and updates from Berea, follow Hayden Grove on Twitter: @H_Grove.
