JYD, it's all just opinions, but I don't know how you question Corey Coleman's size and hands, and then cite Will Fuller as a better option? *DONT_KNOW* I had Coleman and Treadwell neck and neck as the top WR's....To me it's a solid pick. He's a burner that knows the entire route tree, unlike Fuller, whom many have called a "one trick pony" straight line guy, with the sketchiest hands of any of the top rated WR's...... Plus CC is from Baylor.... let's face it, the Browns LOVE those Baylor Bears....We have scouts that live on campus down in Waco year round...
And I have a feeling you will win another one too!! I need to venture over to Huron and pay off my loss! I can't believe it has taken this long.
. . . and they also have scouts that live on campus in Tuscaloosa, Miami, Tallahassee, (maybe) Columbus and every other major college city. They just fired the one that lived in College Station, TX.
Maybe it's just the fact the I watched the kid his whole career at ND (little lady is a ND fan, I'm not a huge fan of college, but I'm really starting the dig the Irish!)... maybe I'm just alittle biased? I dunno, I wanted Treadwell... I'm just not a fan of the speedy undersized WR (especially when you don't have the big physical WR1 type guy on the roster) I know this isn't a popular opinion around these parts, but I'm hoping the Browns go with Connor Cook to start off round two tonight!
For what it's worth, I have all three very close. I may have had them listed that way, but I was going off my mock draft..I'm not surprised a bit that they all went real close in the draft, with the exception of Fuller.... I really thought he'd slip to 2nd rd....
Deal !!! Now that that's in the books, The Browns have 11 picks remaining (of which only 8 are tradable). 1 - 2nd #32 3 - 3rd's #65, #76 & #77 3 - 4th's #99, #100 & #138* 3 - 5th's #141, #172* & #173 0 - 6th's 1 - 7th #223 * compensatory pick IF (and that's a big IF) the Browns snag a QB in this draft, I'm thinking someone like Hogan out of Stanford perhaps with #100 but more likely around #172.
Smith and Jack are facing different possible outcomes. Jack will make a full recovery, but could have a shortened career due to the possibility of microfracture surgery (sounds more like a guarantee than a possibility, tbh). With Smith, he may never suit up again as he's still fresh into the injury and dealing with nerve damage. Jack at #32 isn't a bad deal. Huge talent and worst case, shorter career window. Four years maybe? Greg Little, Montario Hardesty, Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, David Veikune... all second round picks by the Browns who busted spectacularly. Even the ones who worked out (T.J. Ward, Jabaal Sheard, Mitchell Schwartz)... none of them made it more than four years with the team. Smith... I'd take a flier in the fourth if no one else grabs him. Or, I'd prefer to draft him in the third if we're thinking of bailing on a pick for a future one.
I agree they were pretty close but I'm surprised the Browns went w a similar player in Coleman when they let Benjamin walk...I thought Jackson liked bigger WRs? Did analytics take over w 20 TDs?
Hogan was actually a favorite of mine to go to the Browns early on. The only thing that changed my mind was how much time Cleveland spent on looking into Connor Cook. The only other player they have taken as much interest in learning about as Cook was Coleman. At the rate this is going, they will take Hogan after making about 12 more trades, all of which I will end up increasing the bet with you until I owe you a quarter keg.
All that said... the Browns have a very tough decision to make at #32. There are still a lot of very talented players available, plus the potential to move out. I honestly don't think they can make a bad decision here.
Benjamin = Will Fuller.....I think Coleman is a more polished receiver than some think...At least I hope so, because we need an immediate contribution from him... It's stupid to mention Josh Gordon, and now I'm doing it again, but the potential threat to secondaries around the NFL is real in Cleveland ...If "flash" ever gets his life together, that is going to be a noteworthy duo... If Treadwell had the speed he would have been the pick..
It's Cleveland... if there's one thing we've learned, it's that, they can ALWAYS make a bad decision! *WALL*
Look I know people keep coming back 2 his one big yr but is he gonna b a long term answer? Even if he plays this yr he's not gonna b all that and then he will leave so just cut the bait now
I will come around to my new Browns WR...but TD, you said something earlier that you should know the truth about... The truth is Coleman only ran 4 routes at Baylor...now that's all they asked him to run, but we certainly don't know if he knows the entire route tree, because all he ran was: 2015 76 routes were go routes or hitches, for 65.5% of all his routes were only 2 routes He was targeted 27 more times on screens and slants, making up another 23.3%... so if your doing the math 98.8% of his routes were these 4 routes on the route tree, which PFF says consists of 23 distinct routes, and most pro teams basic offense use around 11 routes...So Corey Coleman has a LONG WAY to go to learning how to be a professional WR. 4 routes won't cut it at the next level.... In comparison, Will Fuller spent much of his time in the vertical route tree also, however, he also used 3 routes in go route, curl and Comebacks...along with screens(only 8.8%) and out routes. BOTH had issues dropping balls... I can learn to love Coleman...but I already loved Fuller.
A few things to cover here... Travis Benjamin turned in a surprisingly good year last year, but he was NOT on the level of any of these first round receivers...not even close. He grew into a system his 4th year in and had production based on the fact he was a 4th year receiver with little film, so he caught defenses off guard. He is not an elite receiver... Will Fuller IS an elite receiver whether you guys want to see it or not. I watched the kid play every single game and he does things even on off plays that other receivers do not...including Coleman. Now, onto Josh Gordon, this might have been the plan all along to pair Gordon with a fellow Baylor Bear. I just don't think there will be anything to keep the league from allowing Gordon his reinstatement in August. This team has a chance to make a big leap in production on the offensive side of the ball. Since they started the build in the first round, I would like to see them continue. I wouldn't mind a trade down here and pick up either Hunter Henry, Derrick Henry or Devonte Booker. Continue to add weapons, which is something this team never seems to have. If RGIII is going to succeed, he must have above average tools to do it...THEN, I would also like to see them add Rashard Higgins with one of those top of the fourth round picks. If I thought Nick Vannett would last to the third round, I would be all in on a RB here...
