Because the 49ers can get ahead of themselves. Teams can always trade right in front of a team but some do it sooner because they try to jump another team, or prevent a jump or even simply because a team isn't interested.

Exactly, it isn't one single QB needy team...including the Browns...

If their hand is forced at #2, they almost have to take the QB. A QB needy team cannot "pass" on a QB that may become a professional starter..plain and simple.

Now, if that analytical driven team has a get out of jail free card...ala, two other QB needy teams giving up a good to great deal to trade down, well now they aren't passing on the QB, they are attempting to do what's best for the team by getting as many pieces to the puzzle as possible.

THEN, about the time that broke down team starts to build themselves back up by taking the deals when they are presented, in a couple of years they can afford to jump 15 spots in the draft to get that shiny QB, with a built team to accept him into the fold.

    .....OR.....
They might just go ahead and take that QB when they have the chance..

We will all know in 2 weeks which way they decide to go.

For what it's worth, Mike & Mike are reporting this morning that "sources say", the L.A. Rams are leaning towards Goff at #1...

I was surprised to hear them use the term "leaning towards"....With Rams making a move like that, I'd think there would be much more certainty about who they want...But I've heard them mention that twice now....

  5. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Actually, I think Goff will be -- or at the very least should be -- the #1 overall pick.

I just can't wrap my head around a player who started only 23 games against FCS competition going from Day 3 curiosity and developmental player to #1 overall pick simply because he has the "prototypical" size.

If Los Angeles believes they're a quarterback away from competing in that division (spoiler ahead, they're not), then they need the guy who's a better prospect and more pro-ready.

    #1 - Jared Goff
    #2 - Myles Jack

  6. Off today, working 4 10s at the American Greetings building. I like this 4 day work week and 3 days off,lol Before the explosion we were working 40 10s and 2 8s for overtime. The girls are at school and the little lady is at work so I have the house to myself. YES,YES,YES!

I just read on Yahoo sports that the Browns and Bears could swap #2 and Bears #11 W/Alshon Jefferey given the Gordon news. I don't know what to think about this yet, just read it. I know there is going to be rumors flying around about the draft right about now, lol. In 3 days I have heard or read 4 different scenario's about what the Browns are going to or should do with this #2 pick.

For some reason I don't want a QB at #2. Apparently other teams do,lol. So I'm leaning to..........

If we trade JT and stay at #2 then Tunsil is my pick there.
If we don't trade JT then Ramsey/Jack/Buckner/Bosa is my big board. We have to many holes with the DB's not to draft Ramsey.

I don't like trade downs but this is a total rebuild. If we can get multiple picks like the Browns,Bills and Bronco's type trade I would do that.

Damn I love this time of year, lol

Then you would mean the guy with a better arm, the one that actually played in a pro style offense like the Rams will be running and actually knows how to call out defensive fronts...at least according the Jon Gruden...

That would indicate he means, at the very least:
Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch, Connor Cook, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota...

all 1st round, or potential 1st round QBs of the last couple of years...

  8. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Not unless he is signing a new contract!!

He is on a one year $14M deal as we speak, and has played well, but really just at the 2nd round draft pick that he was...

Best year, 1,400 yards and 7 TDs...second best year 1,100 yards 10 TDs AND coming off an injury season...although, I'm not too worried about the injury, he seemed to bounce back pretty well from that to end the year.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to have him...on the contrary, I would love to have him...But #11 and Jeffery isn't enough for #2...To me Jeffery is worth his original draft spot, that's about the extent of it, which is #45 overall...

Moving from #11 to #2 is definitely worth more than that, even in a down market for draft picks....

If they were to give up #11, Alshon Jeffery(with a 4 year contract in tow), #41 and #106...then I would do it...

AGAIN, IF they don't view either of these QBs to be probable future starting QBs in this league...and/or view Robert Griffin as a reclamation project that is likely to succeed. That is probably the most important aspect of even talking about a trade, imho. If they are sour on Griffin, now that he is in the building and actually getting to know him better...then you stay at #2 and take which ever guy is left standing.

  10. Cause there isn't a sure fire franchise QB in the top 5....u want 2 gamble on a FCS kid who just has better talent than most teams they play or Goff who hasn't played the best defensive teams in the country every week...I wuld take Goff over Wentz w/out a doubt but I wuldnt feel future stud at the position

  11. I misread ur post I thought u said why wuld a QB needy team like the Browns trade down

  12. Hey Guys, long time no see! Been super busy and not a lot of time to pay attention to the draft too much, and definitely not a lot of time to be posting (or even reading) around here.... But I wanted to stop in, say hey, and throw in my two cents (which I know EVERYBODY loves and respects! :D )

Anyways, I think the Browns have a QB in mind (Goff or Wentz) with who they want to take at #2 overall, but after the Rams trade into the #1 slot, I think they're taking a wait and see approach.... If Goff/Wentz (whoever it is they're after) is there at #2, then they take him and proceed with the plan, if the Rams take him and he's not there at #2.... I believe they field every offer they can, get as much as they can get, trade down from #2, and stock up on picks trying to fill out the roster filling holes as best they can in one draft.

Like I said, this is just one guys opinion (who hasn't had a bunch of time to look into what's going on) .... But I supposed in roughly 2 weeks, we'll all find out!

Line 'em up, next rounds on THIS GUY!!! *DRINK* *DRINK* *DRINK* *DRINK*

If I'm a QB needy team and I get the sense the Browns want to trade down it tells me they aren't taking a QB. So why trade with them? The Chargers certainly aren't taking a QB. The Cowboys, in spite of what anyone has said aren't taking a QB. They are in win now mode. The Jaguars and Ravens certainly aren't taking a QB.

Who is realistically gonna jump in front of the 49ers? The Eagles are certainly a possibility. I could see that scenario but why would they have to go all the way up to 2? Just doesn't seem likely. If anyone has trade opportunities (down) I would say it's probably the Cowboys or Jaguars. The Ravens are the most logical so I could see a team trying to get ahead of #6, but not all the way up to #2. Doesn't make sense.

I might call the Browns and start the dialogue but the moment they actually show some interest in moving down I'm moving on. There are too many great players for the Browns to take a QB they aren't excited about. The idea they will be forced to take a QB seems unlikely unless they intend to turn around and shop him. That's a possibility I guess.

I can't either. I've seen some really bad throws from this guy. I'm not convinced he goes ahead of Lynch.

Somewhere, Irish just vomited in anger after reading that.

I'd also add that despite hand-wringing over Goff's size (really, the only knock on the guy), it was Wentz who missed time as a senior due to injury and who was only recruited by a single FBS school due to injuries sustained as a junior in high school.

Despite a few erroneous opinions here, Goff actually has the stronger arm:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...h-goff-create-most-velocity-on-combine-throws

I could go on, but I don't want to bum out top dawg since again, I expect Goff to be gone by the time the Browns are on the clock.

  17. I agree (with what little I've read/seen) I believe Goff is the guy that the Rams traded up to #1 to grab, I also think it's who the Browns wanna take at #2... If the Rams take Goff at #1, the Browns get what they can in value and trade down... If the Rams go Wentz, I think the War Room in Berea goes nuts, the Browns get their man, Goff, and proceed as planned!

  19. Browns wanted Goff....he will b gone so now their looking for a trade partner...didnt think they liked Wentz
