Not a direct roster announcement, but: The Browns let 6 scouts go today, 3 weeks before the draft.... Why.. A) would you not want the use of their knowledge B) would you pay their salary, to possibly be able to go to another team and give them all that information Their contracts were expiring anyway..so the timing is really odd.
I still haven't heard... were they college scouts, or personnel (current NFL player) scouts? It could have been they were assigned to scout free agents and we're done with our free agent acquisitions. Also, if these were guys brought in under Ray Farmer, the move is totally justified.
Thank you. 2015: 7 starts (2-5 as a starter), 55.3 percent completion (35 out of 35, last in the NFL), 74.9 QB rating (32 out of 35). Replaced (due to injury) by 40-year old Matt Hasselbeck who took the same roster and went 5-3 completing 60.9 percent of his passes and posting an 84.0 QB rating. In the worst division in football (.391 winning percentage).
All while playing injured...great evaluation... What of the season before that he played healthy?: 61.7% 4,761 yards passing, 40TDs 16 INTs, 273 yards rushing 3 TDS..96.5 rating So, yes, that's 5,000 yards of offense, 43 TDs to 22 turnovers (including 6 fumbles) According to Pro-Football Reference, he was the 3rd overall QB of 2014. That is what you would prefer to take RGIII over? (edit and by injuries...you mean torn cartage in two ribs, a lacerated kidney and partially torn abdominal muscle...yet played 4 games with those injuries.. Prior to the injuries he led the Colts to a 33-15 regular season record and 3-3 playoff record... This is comical you are trying to make this argument...
There is a lot of rumors about the Eagles and San Fran jumping us and selecting a QB, whether it's Goeff or Wentz. Now I don't want to draft a QB at #2 overall. Why? Luck is not in this draft, lol There is no Luck in this draft. What would happen then if Philly trades the Titans and takes one of those QB's? Do the Browns draft the other one? or do we take Tunsil, Ramsey or Jack ( If healthy) I did hear on channel 3 with J. Donovan that the Browns may move Bitonio to RT because they could find serviceable guards later in the draft with all those picks they have. Rebuild the line is my thoughts in this. Tunsil then becomes my #2 pick.
*WALL* We've been spending first and second round draft picks on linemen repeatedly and it hasn't helped one iota in the win column, while there are perennial playoff teams with maybe 1 or 2 first and second round draft picks on their line...well, making the playoffs perennially. Time to start drafting difference makers, not complement players.
Outside perspective that may not be wanted, but I agree with Irish here. Looking at the Ravens under Harbaugh, we've made the playoffs in 6 of 8 years with only two 1st round (Grubbs 08-11 and Oher 09-13) picks on the o-line and one 2nd rounder (Osemele 12-15). The rest have been free agents/later round trades (Birk, Anderson, McKinnie, Monroe, Zuttah) or later round players (Yanda in the 3rd, Wagner in the 5th, Gaither as supplemental 5th and other scrubs at LG in 2012) With the exception of LT, you can usually find pretty good value after the 3rd, especially at the interior. You may even be Pittsburgh lucky and find a decent LT in the 7th for the future

Although, I am high on the RGIII pickup. A lot will need to happen for him to return to form, but if Hue Jackson can sprinkle the pixie dust, that list will cut in half pretty damn fast. After the resurrection of RGIII: Pats-Brady age Ravens- Flacco Bengals-Dalton ordinary ceiling Steelers Roethlisberger age, rapist/morals Colts-Luck Jags-Bortles (I was very wrong on this one) Titans-Mariota Raiders-Carr Chargers-Rivers Age Cowboys-Romo Age/Injuries Giants-Manning *Redskins-Cousins..not totally sold on this one, but Cousins looked good Bears-Cutler Inconsistency Lions-Stafford Packers-Rodgers Vikings-Bridgewater Falcons-Ryan Seem to be declining with age Panthers-Newton Saints-Brees Age Buccs-Winston Cards-Palmer Age/Injuries Seahawks-Wilson Time to become relevant again in Cleveland...HERE WE GO BROWNIES, HERE WE GO, WOOF WOOF!!! Nicely done Irish. Interesting to note that there are now 6 top flight QBs who's age makes them less of a value vs RGIII if he regains his game. Also that 8 of the remaining names you would trade for are "young guns" (Luck, Bortles,Carr,Bridgewater, Marriota, Newton, Wilson, and Winston). Those guys are basically RGIII's age or younger. That we have so many "good" QBs who are having success so quickly, makes the argument for drafting one now while we have a top pick, but at the same time if RGIII comes in and shows he's got the stuff................? Makes me believe it would make more sense to pass of the QB in round one, use the pick to fill a hole, possibly with a pick trade to get a few more next year. If RGIII is for real, we won't need the QB pick next year, and if he's not ready for prime time, our record will place us pretty high next year, and we could use picks amassed to move into position to get our man. With so much "new" this year, and so many changes, our record is unlikely to improve, unless RGIII plays us into wins, and that could spell the beginning of the "Rise of the Browns" part duh.
I understand that Irish but my thinking has changed since we signed RG3. I agree we need impact players but I think we need 3 o-lineman. Guard, center and rt. Erving did nothing for me last year. I get that he may be a good center and I hope so but last year he got absolutely plowed at guard. If someone does jump us for a QB then Tunsil, Bosa,Ramsey and Jack would have to be my picks. 2nd rd would be where I take a WR. Tunsil and Ramsey play positions of major need right now. Jack if healthy would be my pick but his health is in question right now. Bosa is a beast and could play inside or out on the line but does come from a 4-3 defense, I already talked about Jack so that leaves us with Tunsil and Ramsey. Will Ramsey play CB opposite Haden or will they switch him to FS is the question? That's why I said Tunsil. Who will play his natural position which is tackle. Maybe then the Browns would trade Thomas for a late rd #1 on draft day. Giving us 3 picks in the top 32. Your right about finding lineman in the middle or later rds though. Since I don't want a QB in the top 2 rds we could look for a QB in the 3rd. I keep going back and forth with this, lol in my head. Maybe..... 1st- Ramsey 2nd- Doctson I would love to get WR Micheal Thomas in the 2nd but I don't think he will be there. I have to do some more research as the draft nears, lol
Or even better, you may find a scrapheap undrafted FA former TE/WR/OT/DE that was cut by another team and turn him into your LT of the future!!! *ROFL* *YAHOO* That said, if I had a say in this discussion, I would be clamoring for the difference makers. The OL can still be good without a top 5 pick this year. The Browns need playmakers on both offense and defense. Somebody who can sack the QB, take the ball away, or score TDs.
Here's the thing Els, if you draft Tunsil to man the RT position until Joe T retires, he will NOT be playing his natural position..Same as Erving being asked to play at guard, Tunsil has always played LT. These positions aren't always ambidextrous. We have seen many tackles get drafted, start out their career at RT and seem like busts. Wasting a pick that high in the draft on yet another lineman, when you have a current future HOFer on the roster that can continue to groom your young guys, would be counterproductive. IF they decided to draft Tunsil, I would want to give Thomas his trade to a contender..I just don't see how the analytics would call this a good move. If it were about money, I would totally understand, but we have NO worries in that department now or in the foreseeable future. I still prefer a trade down, but if we stay, I am on the Bosa/Buckner bandwagon. Either would disrupt the offenses they face. A Buckner/Shelton line seems like the best path to opening lanes for any OLB we decide to throw at the opposing QB AND it would help shore up the run defense more than any other pick.
Hue Jackson has the Browns believing Hayden Grove Yesterday at 7:07 PM The Cleveland Browns, though incomplete, are already starting to believe in their ability to have a solid 2016 season. BEREA, OHIO?When the assorted pieces that currently make up the Browns roster joined together for their first set of offseason team workouts in Berea, Hue Jackson was happy with what he saw. Though his team is very much in the middle stages of a massive rebuild, Jackson's eyes darted around the team?s facility and he saw a foundation for the future. He watched as Gary Barnidge, Joel Bitonio and Joe Haden went to work. He looked on at a quarterback room full of potential leaders like Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown. He saw the makings of a strong core of defensive play-callers, including DeMario Davis and Christian Kirksey. As he watched his team, it was easy for him to forget the negative voices that have already trashed the Browns for the upcoming season. He doesn?t listen to those voices and there?s only one expectation that matters: his own. ?I have said it from the day I sat up here before: I expect to win,? Jackson said. ?I expect to win, our players expect to win, and we understand that in order for that to happen, we have to work to win. That is all we are about right now.? Just as Jackson believes in the abilities of his team? a team that, again, has plenty of pieces to add to the puzzle before the 2016 season kicks off? so too do the players that are already a part of the plans. ?People outside of our building are not going to have expectations for us, we feed on that. We love that,? Barnidge said. ?We are going to go out there and just show what we can do, and we are looking forward to the future. That?s all we can do.? Barnidge isn't alone in his thoughts. Bitonio too believes in the Browns, even as the number of new faces grows. ?I think there are more new faces this year than I saw last year, but I think with the guys that we have in here and the way we are working and the way things are being set up, we are going to work our tails off,? Bitonio said. ?We?re going to have as much chance to win a game as the next team.? That last statement by Bitonio has been heavily contested by many media outlets and analysts, who seem to believe the Browns are set for a tough time next season. Even if they are, with so much turnover from the old regime to the new group, Jackson is thrilled to be a part of this organization. He still has no plans to listen to the many dissenting voices. He has far too much else with which to concern himself as the rebuild continues. ?There?s no better group that I have ever been around than the guys I am working with each and every day. I feel very blessed and fortunate to be in this situation regardless of what the outside people think,? Jackson said. ?We will let everyone else talk about all the other things that are going on. We are only interested in working and getting better.? For all of your Browns news and updates from Berea, follow Hayden Grove on Twitter: @H_Grove.
Manziel has moved in with Von Miller, lol Man this guy is a salesman. 1. Miller has spoke often of the Bronco's signing JF and how it would be a good move and the Browns will be sorry for cutting him. 2. There has been rumors of Manziel going to Denver which has been reported to be false. Just like with the Browns on draft day JM is trying to position himself for the SB champs. Even rooming with their most dynamic player. With Sanchez as Denvers starting QB and needing not much, they do need a young future QB. Picking at the end of the 1st rd they will be looking at QB. So there is Manziel selling himself to Denver, lol Will Buck Tooth Elway fall for it? Or draft a QB?
Honestly, I just think Vonn Miller is trying to help a fellow Aggie get his life together. He is doing what many of my Fraternity Brothers and myself do for each other. When there is a need, there is always someone there to help out. Do I think Miller will volley for Manziel to join the Broncos, yes, he already has. However, I do believe this goes much deeper than simply trying to get a player a spot on a team. I commend Miller for reaching out and trying to help a fellow alum. Just speaking up for him behind closed doors and publicly is enough to warrant a good deed. But taking him in under his roof is another level of human decency. THAT'S what this story should be about, not will Johnny fleece another front office? Cheers to Vonn Miller for attempting to help another human being in need. *DRINK*
I didn't write or read an article, but should we add to that post just how rare it is to trade the #1 draft pick overall? It has happened only 9 times since 1970, or the last 46 drafts... So the real question is this...How much is that #1 overall pick worth to the Titans? If they are demanding a king's ransom to move into that spot, they may not have any takers. It is one thing to want a top ten overall pick, it is another to see that top ten pick as a potential future starting NFL QB. The elusive quality starting NFL QB is something some teams chase for decades..we are going on our 3rd decade without finding one...If a team sees one of these two as a top ten overall, then they will attempt to get them at #1. It may turn out to be much too high of a price based on recent trades for both the #1 and #2 overall picks of the draft. Of course, the Titans can buck all precedence and ask a more reasonable price, but at what cost? Some are suggesting the Titans may be willing to trade out for as little as this year's 2nd, 3rd and 2017 2nd round picks to trade with the 49ers...Even if one of the QBs went, they could essentially be giving away an opportunity to draft their #1-5 picks on their board and settling for their 6th best player evaluated, for 2 extra 2nd round prospects, and an improbable 3rd rounder. Here is the thing...the most likely trade partner is in reality the Eagles down at #8 and they don't have a 2nd rounder. I think it will be difficult for the Titans to trade out of #1 overall...which would make this all a moot point. Even if the Browns deemed a QB worthy, there really isn't much competition in this draft to jump them into that #1 spot, essentially making #2 overall the most coveted spot for QBs. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would trade out of #2 overall without having a 2017 first round draft pick as part of the compensation.
