I think it was at Super Bowl 50, but they showed that the AFC QB 13 out of the last 15 years was either Manning, Brady, or Roethlisberger. I don't think we've seen a less-than-stellar QB win one since Trend Dilfer with Baltimore... 17 years ago?
Actually -- and assuming we pass on Carson Wentz -- I think this regime has a very high likelihood of success. I'm just very realistic that we are/were a bad team that got worse from a personnel standpoint and we're looking at a tougher slate of games next season. I don't expect a turn-around in a few months, but I do expect this group to build a successful team over the long haul.
I think my point was lost in translation... What I was trying to say, and maybe not very well, was from a talent to value ratio, I just don't believe this team declined as much as everyone thinks they have. Benjamin was a stud on a team that had no talent at WR...losing him to the Chargers for what he was paid, in the long run, may work to our advantage. I can go through everyone we have discussed, but they are all going to be , lower talent vs. higher salary or in the case of Whitner and Dansby, diminishing skills/returns vs. giving younger guys the time to develop on the field, they would otherwise miss out on. These players need to be evaluated to see if they are valuable players, while Dansby and Whitner are not young enough to be the future of this team. Someone like Campbell may be a player that plays at or above the level of a 30+ year old Whitner. While Whitner is on the roster, we will never find that out. This team, even if we had re-signed every one of the free agents that left AND retained those they cut, would not have won more than 5 games without a major improvement at QB. That is not a possibility imho. New regime, new players, this is a max 4 win team, no matter the circumstances now. If they get to 4 wins or even 7 wins, you don't gain anything. Getting these young players major playing time could definitely pay off much larger dividends in 2017 than anything these players that left could have done for 2016.
Happy Thirsty Thursday Lounge Houndz *DRINK* Here's a lil sumthin to wet your whistle Spoiler *DRINK*
So what your really saying is that it's going to be a very looooooooooong year and that I should stock up on this... And make sure that Lym fixed the hole in his boat
*SCRATCH* YES *YES* That is exactly what I am saying.... Although, I think we have a chance to not be worse than we were last year...just based on competent coaching.
It looks as if Kaepernick is staying in San Francisco Now, its being reported that the Broncos are inquiring about Tyrod Taylor. I can't believe that the Bills would be willing to give him up. Here's hoping that Elway calls Cleveland about Josh McCown. There's no way that McCown is in the Browns' long term plan but wouldn't be great if they told Elway to go phuque himself? Kharma
Read that also. The "headline" was very misleading. Turns out Kubiak reached out to Johnny when he was released but only to offer him support . . . not a job. As did Von Miller. Both Kubiak and Miller were former Aggies.
Yep, lol, I don't think the Broncos PR guy could get a memo out fast enough. They refuted the report within the hour of it being released. It was some funny radio this afternoon.
We need a Josh McCown on this roster . every team needs a McCown . a class act . a true leader who played his heart out last year and played well considering there wasn't much to work with . who better to mentor a QB than McCown ? he is a true pro ! when his playing days are done I hope they hire him as a coach or in some capacity . I would climb in a fox hole with McCown .
McCown is a Man. Yeah, I'd get in a foxhole with him. I'd love to keep him for all the reasons you mentioned, and I don't think any other team is going to give up anything for him, so we may very be able to keep him, if the moneyball braintrust deems his value appropriate. It does beg the question: why would a team not pursue RGIII, but look at McCown, and then which of the two gets the nod to start here. That may sound idiotic, but I see it as "Mr Hope & Potential" vs "Mr Steady, Steely, Team First". You can't fault McCown's performance last year. Perhaps his best ever, and the losses this team amassed last year were rarely on the QB. The much talked about D and the O line were supposed to be our strengths....... Not so much. RGIII is a hell of a package, "in theory", who hasn't taken a snap with "live fire" in nearly two years. Talent wise he holds all the cards, just like he did in Washington, but......... So while I like the RGIII signing, mostly because of the potential, coupled with the relatively low price, I don't assume he will be the QB, even without drafting one. Odds are RGIII gets the nod, but if he can't cut it again, Josh could be the man again. What I love about Josh particulary this season, is he won't make a fuss over RGIII being given the lead role, and will contribute just as heavily in the #2 role. I can't imagine that working the other way around. So a question: does having RGIII place the Browns QB status at "average or above"? There are 32 teams, how many of those would you trade QBs with really?
Pats-Brady Ravens- Flacco Bengals-Dalton Steelers Roethlisberger Colts-Luck Jags-Bortles (I was very wrong on this one) Titans-Mariota Raiders-Carr Chargers-Rivers Cowboys-Romo Giants-Manning *Redskins-Cousins..not totally sold on this one, but Cousins looked good Bears-Cutler Lions-Stafford Packers-Rodgers Vikings-Bridgewater Falcons-Ryan Panthers-Newton Saints-Brees Buccs-Winston Cards-Palmer Seahawks-Wilson So, I guess 22... Although, I am high on the RGIII pickup. A lot will need to happen for him to return to form, but if Hue Jackson can sprinkle the pixie dust, that list will cut in half pretty damn fast. After the resurrection of RGIII: [del]Pats-Brady[/del] age Ravens- Flacco [del]Bengals-Dalton[/del] ordinary ceiling [del]Steelers Roethlisberger[/del] age, rapist/morals Colts-Luck Jags-Bortles (I was very wrong on this one) Titans-Mariota Raiders-Carr [del]Chargers-Rivers[/del] Age [del]Cowboys-Romo[/del] Age/Injuries Giants-Manning *[del]Redskins-Cousins[/del]..not totally sold on this one, but Cousins looked good [del]Bears-Cutler[/del] Inconsistency Lions-Stafford Packers-Rodgers Vikings-Bridgewater [del]Falcons-Ryan[/del] Seem to be declining with age Panthers-Newton [del]Saints-Brees[/del] Age Buccs-Winston [del]Cards-Palmer[/del] Age/Injuries Seahawks-Wilson
That's a really good discussion point, kendawg. Personally, I'd take Robert Griffin over: Indianapolis (Luck) St. Louis (Foles/Keenum) San Francisco (Gabbert/Kaepernick?) Philadelphia (Bradford/Daniels) Chicago (Cutler) New York (Fitzpatrick) And then Playoff teams from 2015 who have less-than-stellar QBs: Houston (Osweiler/Hoyer/Weeden) Washington (Cousins) Denver (Sanchez/Kaepernick?) That right there is nine out of 32 teams that I like Robert Griffin as a better option moving forward. There's obviously going to be projecting a bit, since he didn't take a snap in 2015, but with a head coach and offensive coordinator (Hue) who tailors his offenses to his players' skillsets, coupled with Griffin finally being healthy since his rookie season, I think he's definitely got the best shot to become the QB people thought he could be.
