Nice eye opener Crex. I want to bring up Josh Gordon, not so much the player as the FO's non chalance about his status. Here's a position of need. A Player who has proven he can do it. Hue's protitypical big man who can go get the ball, and they seem to be perfectly content to let the league do whatever they want, whenever they want. There's no indication they are pushing the NFL to make a decision, so they can set up their draft / future, knowing whether this guy will be part of the mix. My point? I just see a continuing lack of strength in pushing back at the NFL to challenge them about punishments, or decisions, and can't help believe that if this were Belichek / Kraft, or Jerry Jones, The Giants, Pittsburgh, or any number of established organizations, the NFL would have been pressured, called, or somehow made to feel the urgency. You may feel differently about the player, but from a purely organizational standpoint where is the talk from the Browns about getting his status defined? A Gordon back in the fold and playing like he's capable is a lot better iMO than any draft pick, yet our FO only refers him by indicating they don't care. What? You don't care if he's part of the team?d I understand they don't want to act as though he's a big part of what this team looks like this season, but that simply isn't true, and it fees like they are setting us up for the announcement that he's not going to be re-instated. IMO they should be going to the NFL and making a case for him, not letting him blow in the breeze. I have stated before that I thought his punishment was more of a persecution, but let's leave that aside for now. He is an asset in limbo, and the FO should be making some noise about his status remaining in limbo as the draft approaches, let alone FA. I sense we have no balls as a FO to challenge the NFL on anything, and that's not good. Any thoughts loungers?
TD, this front office has full rein of this team. Haslam and his wife (yes his wife) will be writing checks. This type of rebuild should of happened 2 years ago when they should of drafted Watkins/Evans, Carr and Bitoinio. The last regime absolutely sucked. We all know that Farmer set this team back at least 3/4 years anyway. With the 4 blown 1st rd picks. Yes they all suck. They are putting their stamp on this football team and Haslam is allowing them to do that. Haslam won't lose money, lol He has a golden cow that gives golden milk, lol Just prepare yourself for 3 years at least with very high picks. Hey, at least the Buckeyes are loading up,lol In 3/4 years we may have a team that can win more than 3 to 5 games a year.
Oh boy is Irish gonna b mad....all he kept saying was dont forget bout Olamu who is a 1st round talent *STOP*
I hadn't forgotten about Olamu. I think lots of Browns fans were holding out hope.... In this case, no news was bad news....Sort of figured since we heard so little about him from Berea that the prognosis probably wasn't good.... That sucks....I thought maybe that was a good move last year.
He was before blowing his knee out . it was worth the gamble the Browns took to draft him . most seventh rounder's don't pan out . I wish the kid the best . his injury must have been worse than thought .
Damn right, this move is definitely the one that cuts at me the most. I understand ALL the other moves. Unless the doctors are saying he still has some major issues, this move simply doesn't make sense. Reports were that he might be 100% by training camp. If that was true, then how can you justify not using one of the 90 roster spots to see where he stands? I'm hard pressed to figure out how they are going to find enough players to fill the 90 man...why cut him at this point? There are no money deadlines or anything. Only explanation is medical.
In case any of you were wondering . . . The Browns currently have 64 players under contract that qualify for a roster position. Assuming that Josh Gordon is allowed to return from suspension, that brings the number up to 65. They have 10 draft picks (as of right now) so now the projected number is 75. That means they only need to sign 15 UDFA's after the draft to hit the 90 man roster limit. Think this field dressing is bad now? Wait until after the 2016 season. Of the 65 players mentioned above (including Gordon), 35 players (54% of them) have contracts that expire at the end of the 2016 season.
That's because this roster is made up of 1 year league minimum contracts...None of those 35 are considered must signs at this point..Gordon could make that one, but at this point it is anyone's guess whether he is even going to be reinstated.
This front office is here to get Haslam the most wins for his bucks, lol I'm not trying to start chit here but we are seeing what happens to a franchise that can't win. No matter why the reason. Can any of you actually say the Browns came back to win? If so then who ever has owned this team has failed and failed miserably. So now Haslam is doing his best Dolan impression and is getting cheap. Don't believe me? Look at the players they have cut. Only Manziel was a problem child. They are in a no lose situation with Gordon. But unless he has an all-pro season he will be tagged or released next year. We will know more about that if they draft a WR in the 2nd rd and Pryor has grown as a WR. They released the other problem child. As I wrote before. This should of happened 2 years ago. Maybe they will finally draft good starting talent instead of trading down for scrubs. This team needs impact, talented players. My #2 pick are Ramsey, Bosa or Jack. Jack if he is healthy. There are some questions. So then Ramsey (CB,FS) and Bosa (DE,DT)
