You really think it's the fault of the fans Irish? Geezus you gotta be kidding...They have done nothing in Berea the last 15 years, other than completely destroy a once very proud brand, the Cleveland Browns...It's not the fans bro. We are just human beings watching a never ending travesty. It ALL starts at the top. We have easily the most inept front office in proffessional sports and that's been incredibly consistant since 99.. They have gone way past just simply breaking our hearts. Now they stepping on our pride and embarrassing us with regularity. Our two most popular players nationwide ARE a joke. Gordon and Manziel are flat out embarrassing the fans with their selfishness and stupidity, because neither of them gives a shit. The brass in Cleveland couldn't have done a worse job over the last 15 years if they tried. IMO they are at an all time low right now. How could things be any worse? The organization (and i use the term VERY VERY loosely) has now reached the point where they can't get through a single week without something or someone making us look bad. Our phuquing season ended a month ago but we still make the headlines consistently for all the wrong reasons...I'd say the term "joke" very accurately describes, not just Johnny and Josh, but the franchise in general...Those guys haven't been here long enough to be responsible for all the messes.... Nope. It's not the fans.....The fans are the victims. It's the Cleveland Browns....Hell, the term" Cleveland Browns" is now a punch line. They have become synonymous with the word "debacle"... Whenever losers are talked about, the Browns get mentioned....To me, it doesn't get any worse than that, but that is the reality of being a Browns fan.....
He is a grown ignorant man. Why take up a roster spot with this jerk off. Do what ever is least expensive for the team. 1 ignorant arse wipe down now time to get rid of the other, trade Johnny Drunk!
TD, AMEN Brother! This franchise is a joke and has been since Modell sold this team. You are dead on about the embarrassment that this team brings this city. You are absolutely right that the 2 biggest jokes on this team are JM and Gordon. Yes that joke is played on us the fans. Why? the same reason Haslam, yes Haslam, drafted Johnny Drunk. To make that cash register ring and ring often. This team actually needs about 9/10 starting players. This is a very low point for this franchise. That is if you want to call it that. The Browns only have themselves to blame for this mediocrity.
Irish a simple "YOU WERE RIGHT ELS" will be enough! But now that POTHEAD is gone you won't hear me calling to trade him no more. That ignorant F$#% will destroy himself soon enough. Maybe he liked selling cars.
I have run out of patience and I'm tired of defending and making excuses for these clowns...We (the fans) must get pissed off and demand better from this franchise...If we don't, I wouldn't expect things to change much. You'd think we could at least enjoy "Pro-Bowl Sunday" without some member of our beloved team dragging us through the mud....but no. And i can almost guarantee that come next Sunday, as you are getting ready for your SB party, you will see that damn ticker once again, rolling across the bottom of your TV screen with yet another debacle from the franchise that specializes in them...I don't know who yet, my guess is Johnny. But at some point we will all be flushed with embarrassment as Browns fans. It's like death and taxes these days. There is no escape...
You were right Els... That had nothing to do with the fans...It was a symbol of blow it up on offense...ONCE AGAIN...we need to do it about every...ummm, year or so and start over... Well, we get to start over yet again because of these ignorant a__hol__ I don't even know where to begin... Wait, yes I do... You were right Els....
New coordinators mean that typically. Very standupish of you to tip the hat to Els, by the way. I a as sick of the change as anyone, I hate it.
A source tells Profootballtalk.com that a successful appeal for Josh Gordon's latest suspension is "unlikely at this point." Gordon allegedly tested positive for alcohol, something he was presumably prohibited from consuming in connection with his laundry list of drug-related misdeeds. Per PFT's Mike Florio, Gordon's one-year ban is likely a "done deal." The Browns need wide receiver help. And a quarterback.
Irish that's cool, my man! Thank you. Now in true sports fashion what's going to be the next play for this franchise? I say. 1. A franchise QB. To me fellas this is #1. If 1 is not available right now we have to find a good fill in. 2. Continue to fix the right side of the line. 3. We need to find 2, yes 2, WR's. 4. We need to find a TE.
I Honestly think that they have a plan in place to acquire a Veteran QB vie trade . Miami ..either Matt Moore or maybe even Tannehill will be available . Joe Philbin is on the hot seat .who will he hitch his wagon to for what could be his last ride ? I wanted the Browns to make a run at Moore two years ago . Eagles .. my first choice Nick Foles who I was hoping the Browns would have drafted .Kelly has full control now and wants ammo to move up to get his guy from Oregon . Kelly didn't draft Foles and is a egomaniac . make that trade Farmer ! Rams .. maybe Bradford or Austin Davis who played well last year .I can live with Davis . Raiders .. don't laugh to hard at me here . our new OC came from the Raiders . I know Carr is not available like he was in last years draft ..Idiot FO didn't pull the trigger on him instead trading back into the first round to waste a pick on :! ...Matt MaGlowin ..if I spelled that right *DONT_KNOW* . didn't play that bad is big strong and a hard worker . maybe a diamond in the rough ?. our new OC would know . he could be had for a mid to late round pick . I will not panic until after the draft and free agency . if no one is on the roster then .....RUN Fellas gonna be a long year
Snow day ..yay 6 inches is all we got . enough to go out and play in it some . in my younger days in meant Mad River Mountain for some skiing and a few *DRINK* . doing donuts in the parking lots or on Main ST and watch the cops come ...POOF! there was usualy a bunch of us doing it so who was they going to follow stay safe stay warm .
Ian Rapaport of ESPN stated this morning that it is very unlikely that the 1 year suspension will get lifted. If the suspension does happen it will be considered a banishment and in 2016 he will have to get reinstated by the commish. He will then be a UFA and can sign anywhere he wants. When asked about how the team felt about the situation he said. "Last year when Gordon returned most players on the team didn't want him there. That he could not understand the offense." When asked about how team officials felt about this failed test Rapaport said "The team felt relieved." Irish again brotha I'm going to need your help here, lol! If he is suspended, will we have his money to spend elsewhere? If so I think that's a good thing. With the news of Gordon's suspension and the news coming out from CBS that we are not going to resign Cameron we are going to have to dig in with these off season chats. From the beginning I wanted a RT then WR in the 1st rd of the draft. But as I think about it I think Irish you have changed my thought process here a little bit. That and with this news of Josh. I now feel we should get Schwartz help at RG in FA. So thinking that I now want an OLB with that 1st pick.Someone who can attack the QB. With #19 a WR. Whether that be White, Parker or Strong. 1 major need on both sides of the ball. With this thinking I feel we have to sign a veteran WR better than Austin. That's where Cobb or Maclin comes in. 1 of those 2 with White, Parker or Strong and you throw in Hawkins and we will have something there. We will be able to spread the field.
Updated at 9:07 a.m. The Morning Kickoff ? Such a waste: Say goodbye to Josh Gordon, the most talented wide receiver in Browns history. His career with the Browns was hanging on a thread and Gordon willfully snipped that thread by excessive partying. He tested positive for alcohol, according to reports, and now faces an indefinite ban from the NFL because he was in Stage 3 of the NFL intervention program. It was at least Gordon?s sixth violation in three years in the program, counting a DUI arrest in July, for which he escaped discipline. Prior to joining the Browns, Gordon was kicked out of Baylor and Utah for positive tests for marijuana. So Gordon, who is still only 23, has been disciplined for drug or alcohol violations five years in a row. Per terms of the newly bargained NFL substance abuse program, Gordon can apply for reinstatement in one year. Reinstatement is not automatic. If Gordon doesn?t comply with certain clinical requirements ? such as treatment, total abstinence from drugs and alcohol, and no arrests or convictions ? his ban would extend indefinitely. So he quite possibly may never play in the NFL again. Gordon?s 11 games under suspension last year ? 10 in a league suspension and one in a team discipline ? cost him more than $617,000 in salary. His one-year ban will cost him $1.682 million in salary in 2015. Longer-term, a player of his talent and age could have commanded $60 million or more in a free agent contract. So that was one mightily expensive bit of partying on Gordon's part. In recent years, the Browns have not commented on reports of suspensions until they are announced. So it was emblematic of their disgust with Gordon that they issued the following statement on Sunday, attributed simply to a club spokesperson: "Clearly we are very disappointed to hear the latest report regarding Josh. At this point, due to the confidential nature of the NFL?s substance abuse policy, we have not been made aware by the league of a failed test. We are in the process of gathering more information and will provide further comment at the appropriate time.? A lost cause: I felt a bad vibe from Gordon when he came back from his 10-game suspension last year. Despite being given a reprieve while the NFL negotiated a new drug policy with its players union ? he was supposed to be slapped with the indefinite suspension then ? Gordon returned with an attitude. I had hoped the near-brush with the premature end of his career would have had a positive effect on him ? like it did with Kevin Mack in the 1989 season. Mack returned determined to repay the Browns for their support during his incarceration and suspension after a drug arrest. He was changed for the best. Gordon was changed for the worse, holding it against everyone that he were not given a free pass. In the locker room, he waved off reporters who dared approach him or walked past them, and declined to engage in any extended conversation. He said, falsely, that PR officials told him he only had to talk after games. On the field, Gordon embarrassed himself and his team with questionable effort and abject disregard for learning plays, routes and assignments. Instead of being the catalyst to a playoff stretch run, Gordon submarined the team?s efforts before him. He blew up the chemistry of an over-achieving receiving corps and played a role in Brian Hoyer?s demise. The height of Gordon?s unprofessionalism came when he blew off a walk-through the day before the final game, earning a team suspension and costing himself an accrued season towards free agency. The Browns were 6-4 without Gordon and 1-5 after his reinstatement. Disturbingly to the Browns, Gordon and Johnny Manziel became fast friends. Gordon, in fact, partied with Manziel the night before he missed the walk-through. Manziel also missed a scheduled rehab session that morning and was disciplined by being banished to the locker room for the entire final game in Baltimore ? like an adolescent given a ?timeout.? After the season, Gordon was front and center in a video brazenly posted on Instagram of teammates and former receivers coach Mike McDaniel celebrating the holidays on a private plane, presumably headed to Las Vegas. Gordon also reportedly joined Manziel in photos posted on the Internet from Aspen, CO. Albert Breer of league-owned NFL Network reported via Twitter that Gordon?s positive test occurred after the season. Which means it could have been while partying with Manziel or other teammates. Gordon was subject to up to 10 random tests a month for drugs and alcohol, per terms of his status in Stage 3 of the drug intervention program. Manziel would only be tested for alcohol if he were already admitted to the program. A little-known fact is a player can be placed in the intervention program ? absent a violation -- because of behavior ?which, in the judgment of the Medical Director, exhibits physical, behavioral, or psychological signs or symptoms of misuse of Substances of Abuse.? Whether or not Manziel has exhibited such behavior in the eyes of the NFL Medical Director remains to be seen. He seems to be a walking time bomb. Now what?: The emotional response to Gordon?s latest violation would be to terminate his Browns contract. Like Kyle Shanahan, Gordon has demonstrated he doesn?t want to be with them, so the prevailing sentiment is that they should release him and rid the locker room of yet another sour apple. I would hold off on that, however. While under indefinite suspension, Gordon will not be paid, doesn?t count on the team?s salary cap and is not permitted in the team?s facility. He is out of sight/out of mind and does not poison the locker room. His contract ?tolls,? which means it picks up when and if he is reinstated. If that ever happens, Gordon would be under contract to the Browns for one more year. After that, he would be eligible for restricted free agency. If I were the Browns, I would do nothing. If Gordon ever is rehabilitated ? I know, fat chance of that ? he is a commodity that could bring something in return. As a league source said, ?Any person under contract is an asset.? Even now, after helping to destroy a Browns season of promise, I would hate to see Gordon resurface with another NFL team without receiving compensation for him.
What to do with the 2013 Pro Bowler is at the top of the Browns list at the position (The OBR will do a position-by-position review of each of the Browns positions as the team heads toward the 2015 season. The fourth part will be the tight end position.) After a breakout season in 2013 that resulted in a Pro Bowl appearance, Jordan Cameron struggled for most of the 2014 season. He suffered a shoulder sprain in the preseason and then missed five games during the season with a concussion. Cameron played in 10 games and averaged 17.7 yards per catch to lead all of the NFL?s tight ends. He had three catches of 40 or more yards. However, Cameron becomes a free agent in March and with his history of concussions that could devalue him on the free agent market. Ideally, Cameron wants to play on the West Coast and if the Browns choose to go after him they will likely have to overpay. Garry Barnidge and Jim Dray were solid role players and did a good job in the blocking schemes. Both players made big catches during the season. Here?s a summary of the trio of tight ends on the current roster. Jordan Cameron ? Cameron?s production from 2013 dropped from 80 receptions to 24 receptions and his yardage totals went from 917 yards to 424 yards. He had seven touchdowns in 2013 and just two in 2014. Cameron?s biggest play of the season was an 81-yard touchdown catch against the Panthers. In that game, he finished with three catches for 88 yards. Jim Dray ? Dray played all 16 games, including eight starts. He finished with 17 receptions for 242 yards (14.2 avg.) and one touchdown. Dray caught three passes for 25 yards and a score in the Browns comeback win over the Titans. He also caught three passes for 45 yards against the Bills. Gary Barnidge ? Barnidge played in 13 games and finished with 13 receptions for 156 yards (12.0 avg.). Barnidge missed three games with a rib injury. His biggest game was a four reception, 41 yard game in the win over the Saints. Barnidge had two big catches in two wins. The first was a 10-yard reception on fourth down in the game-winning drive against the Saints. The other was a 15-yard reception in the final drive against the Falcons that set up the game-winning field goal. Summary: The biggest decision the Browns have to decide is on what to do with Cameron as he heads to free agency. Barnidge and Dray are solid role players who are more blocking tight ends that receiving. The Browns will need to add a receiving tight end if they lose Cameron in free agency. Top Free Unrestricted Free Agents currently set to be available besides Cameron: Julius Thomas, (Broncos), Owen Daniels (Ravens), Charles Clay (Dolphins) and Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) (Next up: We?ll take a look at the offensive line)
A few things on my mind today. I'll start with the obvious first one . . . Josh Gordon. Why is this news such a big surprise to us? I can't recall one single poster who believed the kid would turn himself around. We even discussed the need to add WR's (multiple) in either the draft, free agency or both! Gunny hit the nail right on the head when he posted that at least this year we got the news in time to alter the roster plan. From where I'm sitting, the Browns do not need to do anything! Being suspended, Gordon doesn't count against either the roster or the salary cap. In fact, based on this, his suspension just added $1.6M to the cap space. Last year (after the suspension was reduced to 10 games) the Browns invested resources to keep Gordon mentally up to speed regarding the offense, in playing shape and counselling to help him turn his life around. Regarding the last item, "You can lead a horse to water . . .". They could end up releasing him in order to put some distance between him and the Browns organization and I don't think anyone would blame them. But eventually his dead money ~$564K, would come due (I'm guessing in 2016). I don't see any scenario in which they could trade him other than (hypothetically) getting a 7th round pick for Gordon plus a 6th round pick. I believe they tried to trade him last year but couldn't find a dance partner willing to give up anything for a player one Dixie Cup away from a 1 year suspension. THIS year, they have find a trade partner willing to give something up for a player one test away from a lifetime ban. I do have to wonder about this: How do "NFL Insiders" Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter report on the story when, according to the Browns' press release, the Browns have not yet been notified by the league of these test results. Here's an excerpt from that press release; And, finally, why is the Browns front office being berated in here over this latest episode? Haslam, Farmer and Pettine weren't even a glimmer in our eyes when Josh Gordon was obtained in the supplemental draft! You want to blame a front office? Blame Banner and Heckert/Lombardi.
Next up . . . Brian Hoyer. It's being reported that the Browns have scheduled meetings with Hoyer and his agent within the next two weeks in order to hammer out a contract extension. What's the big deal, you ask? If, in fact, they can come to a deal with Hoyer, the extended contract would take him off of the free agent list. We have all seen the list of available FA QB's and Hoyer is (or should be) considered in the same altitude as most of these available QB's. As a minimum, he is the "known evil" amongst these QB's. I sincerely doubt that this extension would be for only a one year deal (although that is a possibility) as I don't believe either Hoyer or his agent would be willing to go that route. I also believe that there would be some form of assurance from the Browns that Brian would be named the starting QB and that Johnny Manziel would have to beat him out. Getting this done would also remove one more item from the Browns' off season to-do list and allow them focus on everything else - and that "everything else" list is formidable. It would not, however, prevent the Browns from either signing another FA QB or drafting a project QB on day two or three if they felt this would be prudent.
I was also going to talk about Jordan Cameron but Bluez' post from the OBR pretty well summed up everything I was going to say. However, I did see this little gem; http://dawgpounddaily.com/2015/01/26/report-jordan-cameron-turns-6-7-million-browns/
Wow!!! 6-7 million for what I'd consider damaged goods?!?! The guy is only one more good hit away from retiring as a vegetable. I don't know myself, but how reliable is YardBarker? Anyway, it basically says one of 3 things about Cameron: 1) He (or his agent) is being greedy and think they can get more. 2) He's willing to take less and he really wants to play on the West Coast. 3) He's tired of the circus in Cleveland and the revolving door we have in place for offensive schemes and won't take any amount that the Browns offer him. I'm leaning towards #3 myself.
About as reliable as L4SN. The "author" is, in real life, a professional counselor and write articles for them much the way that I write articles for L4SN. As always, take it with a grain of salt (except in my case - I speak only the truth and the whole truth) ;D
