  1. Joe Haden is arrogant and thinks to highly of himself.....some people should see how he rubs people(females) the wrong way.

I'm normally a supporter of Haden, but he loses a lot of credibility with me here.

He was the one who choose to use a banned substance and then lied about it. And make no mistake, the name of the substance does not have to be released, so Adderall was probably not what we're looking at here.

Also, considering he received a suspension, it's the second time he's failed a drug test.

His decisions cost the team greatly as we were worse than normal in his absence. We went 0-4 and surrendered 23, 24, 34 and 41 points. Far be it from me to be the one making excuses for Weeden, but maybe our record would have been a little better if we didn't have a struggling rookie playing catch-up those four games.

Let's just hope he has truly learned his lesson, works his arse off and becomes the leader in the secondary the Browns need him to be.

i dont care if he a grade a asshole as long as he can play at a high level . most CB & WR are cocky . it comes with the position .

i always see & read about Haden with Irving from the Cavs doing charity work around Cleveland . two young stars supporting the community that they play for . thats top self in my book .

49ers hired former ESPN analyst Eric Mangini as a senior offensive consultant.
It's a loss for football fans who value strong TV analysis during the week. Mangini was hard to love as a head coach for the Jets (2006-2008) and Browns (2009-2010) due to the borderline-paranoid way he handled his teams and all things associated with them, but in just a couple of years had become one of the better NFL analysts around. Still only 42, Mangini may well resurface as a defensive coordinator or head coaching candidate as soon as 2014 or 2015. His primary background has been defense, although Mangini was an offensive assistant in Baltimore under Ozzie Newsome in 1996. He'll work on Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin, and Vernon Davis' side of the ball in San Francisco.

Smart move by a very smart organization .i was a Mangini supporter .i know most of you didnt like him but Bluez did . i would climb in a fox hole with Mangini . its best compliment i can give someone .

BEREA: The Browns drafted Leon McFadden in the third round of the NFL Draft in April in hopes of filling their need for a starting cornerback opposite Joe Haden.

But they also signed someone Haden describes as ?a little, grimy dude,? and that guy plans to put up a fight against McFadden and anyone else standing in his way of cracking the starting lineup.

The feisty newcomer is Chris Owens, who spent the past four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before signing a one-year contract with the Browns in March as an unrestricted free agent. Although many assume McFadden will become the Robin to Haden?s Batman, Owens believes he has a chance to earn the part, too.

?I watched [Haden] when I was back in Atlanta,? Owens said Thursday after practice. ?I?ve got a lot of respect for the guy, and now that I came here and get to see him play, I?ve got a lot of respect for his game. To be paired with him, possibly starting opposite of him, would be a real good opportunity for me to step my game up and make some plays because I know they?d be coming for me.?

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Owens served primarily as a nickel corner with the Falcons, but he worked quite a bit on the outside the past three weeks during the Browns? organized team activities. On Thursday, he lined up opposite Haden with the first-team defense, and Buster Skrine covered the slot in the nickel package. McFadden, meanwhile, practiced with the second unit.

So as the Browns prepare for their mandatory minicamp, which runs Tuesday through Thursday, Owens is in the driver?s seat of their competition at corner. Of course, he?ll need to hold off McFadden as the position battle heats up. Owens has started 12 of the 59 regular-season games in which he has appeared.

?I?m comfortable inside and outside,? said Owens, who the Falcons picked in the third round (No. 90 overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. ?Whichever one I play depends on the coaches. I put that in their hands, whether I?m playing outside or inside.

?You win positions in training camp. I think everybody knows that. So we don?t know who?s starting yet. I?m definitely going to compete my butt off, and we?ll see what happens come August.?

Still, Owens has already been practicing like a man determined to take the next step in his career.

?[He?s] tussling with people already when we don?t have equipment on,? said Haden, the seventh overall pick in the 2010 draft. ?Right now, it?s a lot of footwork stuff and knowing the plays. You?ll know a lot more when you get those pads on. You can?t judge right now. It?s too early.?

Browns coach Rob Chudzinski became familiar with the Falcons and the rest of the NFC South while spending the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. Owens caught his eye.

?He has really good feet, mirror skills and cover skills,? Chudzinski said. ?He was a guy that we wanted to bring in and put into the mix with our corners to get a chance to compete. In this league, you need corners, and you need to have good corners. Chris has been doing a nice job out there.?

Owens compiled 22 tackles, four passes defensed and a forced fumble in 13 games this past season. He also allowed a passer rating of just 68.9 on balls thrown into his coverage and played 24.3 percent of the defensive snaps, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

No matter how much playing time Owens earns with the Browns, he?s planning to become a leader. Owens, 26, is 11 days older than strong safety T.J. Ward, meaning he is the elder statesman of the secondary. Haden and Skrine are 24, and McFadden is 22.

?I think leaders do things on and off the field,? Owens said. ?A guy will lead by example. As long as I do my job, whether it?s special teams, nickel, outside, as long as I make plays and show my teammates that I?m worthy of being a leader, that would be a great opportunity. And off the field, you?ve got to keep all the nonsense where it?s at.?

But on the field, there?s nothing wrong with being ?a little, grimy dude? who?s eager to make a mark with his new team.

Browns OG John Greco has been lining up as the team's starting right guard in OTAs.
Greco, 28, started ten games in place of injured LG Jason Pinkston last season, and he was easily the team's best guard. He's a mauling run blocker, and is entering a contract year. Pinkston and Shawn Lauvao are rotating at left guard.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It's the Jimmy Show and it's not Fallon or Kimmel.

Two possibilities have emerged regarding the FBI/IRS case against Pilot Flying J now that two executives have pleaded guilty this week and -- legal experts believe -- have agreed to cooperate in the government's investigation.

One, pointing to a dereliction of duty as CEO, squashes remaining hope that Jimmy Haslam is the stickler for detail and dynamic, finger-on-the-pulse executive Browns fans wanted to believe he was when he bought the team from Randy Lerner. And that's the preferred conclusion.

The other is that the FBI will prove, with help from Haslam's former employees, that he knew about the fraudulent rebate program. The NFL would be wise as that scenario unfolds to tell Haslam to step away, if not step down.

In the meantime, the investigation is the backdrop for everything that happens, good and bad in Berea. That's something Haslam might not like, as evidenced by the look he sported this week when Jim Brown was asked about joining the organization at such a ... ahem ... interesting time for Haslam. But he better learn to deal with it.

View full sizeWhen Jimmy Haslam took over the Browns, he pointed at his involved leadership at his Pilot Flying J truck stop empire. These days, that doesn't always seem like a strength, says Bud Shaw.
AP file All that "due diligence" Haslam mentioned in building an organization -- from the hiring of Joe Banner, to the head coaching search, to the hiring of Mike Lombardi as GM -- all that is tossed under the microscope for closer review now that Haslam claims ignorance about his own company's dealings.

Timing hasn't been his ally so far. His choice of words hasn't helped either. He spent Wednesday morning introducing Brown as a special assistant, calling the hiring "very significant." Later the same day, the news broke of two executives pleading guilty in an investigation Haslam once referred to as involving rebates paid to an "insignificant" number of customers.

Ten customers have filed suit against Pilot Flying J.

The Jim Brown press conference offered a glimpse at the months ahead for Haslam. The focus won't entirely leave him unless and until the Browns not only begin playing games in September but winning them. If their start matches the inexorable crawl of the FBI investigation -- already two years in the making -- Haslam's going to face even more sideways glances.

As expected, his attorney this week downplayed the two guilty pleas of Pilot FLying J executives, maintaining Haslam knew nothing of the scheme. Attorney Aubrey Harwell told newsnet5.com that this was no game-changer, that "you cannot read the affidavit and not realize that people acted inappropriately and agreed to plead guilty."

The same affidavit includes an employee telling an undercover informant that Haslam was aware of the scam. You cannot read that part and not know that the FBI is going after much bigger fish than the two execs who pleaded guilty.

Haslam pledges to be front and center as Browns owner even as he contends he knew nothing, nothing, about the rebate plan at Pilot Flying J.

If true, it's still not all that comforting.
