I just keep setting you up.

And you just keep on knocking them out of the park.

And I think it's more like Yellowstone Park, that I'm talking about here.

I know that Irish already addressed this but I'll go a little further...

The Broncos currently have 54 players under contract for a total of $121M. Their Top 51 number is $119M. The projected cap is supposed to be in the neighborhood of $142M. That leaves them roughly 23M to work with in free agency assuming Manning doesn't retire.

    Notables among that group:

Peyton Manning 21.5M - if he retires his cap number becomes 5M (+16.5M)
Ryan Clady 10.6M - if cut his cap number becomes 1.8M (+8.8M)
Von Miller 9.7M - Von is in his option year. A contract extension could reduce his cap number by 3-4M easily.

Everybody else appears like they will remain on the roster with the possible exception of Manny Ramirez who is do a 1.6M bonus at some point this off-season.

    Key Free Agents:

Julius Thomas - franchise tag for TEs will be in the 7.5-8M range. This is very likely.
DeMaryious Thomas - Even a Jordy Nelson type deal (4yrs, 39M) created a first year cap number of 4.6M.
Terrance Knighton - Think Sammie Lee Hill money (3yrs, 11.4M). First year cap number of 2.7M.
Orlando Franklin - failed at RT, okay at guard, with competition maybe Rob Sims $ (4yrs, 14.2M) - 2.7M first year.
Rahim Moore - tough evaluation, arrow certainly pointing up, maybe T.J. Ward $ (4yrs, 22.5M) - 3.2M first year.
    Wes Welker - probably done.

That's a total of 21.2M in first year money if they sign all their free agents which is unlikely. But it shows there is plenty of money for Julius and DeMaryious.

EDIT: I didn't go deep into it but I could see Ryan Clady getting cut. He missed all of 2013 and didn't play particularly well in 2014. He's due a 1.5M roster bonus in March and on the same day his entire 2015 salary becomes fully guaranteed. That's a big number and significant savings for a guy that has done very little on his new contract.

It's hard to argue that Suh wouldn't be a beast and make our D dominant. I wasn't a fan of the move due to price and age, but he's still got a couple years til he hits 30, so it comes down to money. I have to admit I'd love to have some "tude" on D, backed up by the goods. With the guys we have already in "cover positions", having Suh would allow us to live with the talent we have.

Hell even Hoyer could win with that set up. Put up 20 points and we win. Then the remaining assets can to to improve the O. The right side of the line first, then tinker and tweek the reciever positions, add an "honest to God" FB, and let's go!

Say goodbye to the Johnny Rotten experiment, which I think even Slam has soured on, tell Hoyer he is God's gift to football, and act like it for a couple years, until the QB tree bears better fruit, and let's go pound the league not "wreck it".

Don't agree on dropping Gordon, trade - OK, but we can't give him away. Last year while disapointing, shouldn't be taken too seriously IMO. Yeah, I'd like to have him be a Pro, but I want to see him back, and find out if he's ready to take his career seriously, and he's a guy who if he's into it, can offer more than Cobb IMO, and his price is a bargain. We only have to worry when it's time for a new contract. Makes dollars and sense.

  12. Yahoo reports that the Browns locker room said Manziel was a 100% "JOKE"! For this team to move forward they need to trade both the drunk and the pothead! If they are still on the team next year this team will continue to struggle! I didn't say "CUT" them I said trade them. Maybe you can get a 3rd and 4th rd pick for them. Maybe lower. With the guy's on the team not respecting Johnny Drunk then he can not be your starting QB. I don't care what anyone say's. If Johnny Drunk doesn't start for this team this year then he is a bust pick. Trade the Drunk and the Pothead! Let another ream worry about them. Your a losing team with them anyway! Maybe them not performing at their capabilities is the reason why we are a 7 win football team. Time for this team to trade the dead weight.

  13. So just wait till he joins Bob Marley again, No thanks! Trade the doper! 1 toke away from being out of the league. Let him do it somewhere else!

This Josh Gordon talk is nonsense..

He is one year removed from a 1600 yard season in 4 games played with Weeden, Campbell and Hoyer (shortly) throwning to him.

All I hear about is this team not getting talent and letting the few we do get walkbat free agency. Well they have done a MUCH better job of keeping the talent in-house and now you want to trade one of the single most talented players we have had since the return...

Stop with the pothead BS...the man gets tested on average once a week, it has been going on for two years. I would venture to say many of you would have quit your job under that scrutiny. I am in a random and have to go about 3 times a YEAR and its a pain in the arse... I can't imagine once a week randomly, given an hour to stop what you are doing to go piss....the ONLY hiccup was a test that showed at best second hand smoke...IN TWO FREAKING YEARS!

    GIVE IT A REST!!

I can't explain his end of year missing a meeting, but hopefully lesson learned by every one on this roster about missing meetings of any kind.

The mentality of some of you is why this is the factory of sadness...

Manziel?? Who knows if he will ever become a pro, but a report from Yahoo saying the locker room calls him a joke is a joke in itself...

I believe some may think that, but the locker room is full of professionals and they should be getting on his ass to be one too. Someone needs to step up and lead this damn team, not just jettison every player that messes up.

Let's move to reality and accept we need to get the most we can out of the athletes we have instead of asking someone else to do it by giving us a freaking 4th rond draft pick that will MOST LIKELY be just as worthless as the actual talent you want to trade away.

General Manager League ? An Offseason Roster Adventure

Posted on January 23, 2015 by Jim

For those of us wishing we had a bit more control over what our favourite teams do, or simply just love the roster gymnastics of the offseason, I?d like to introduce and invite you to the General Manager League.

Essentially you are taking over a team and running them through the NFL offseason from a certain point in time forward against other human players. If you?ve followed your favourite team during the offseason, or played Madden?s franchise mode, you know the process. There are some tweaks as it?s a one year league, but the general idea remains the same. The numbers, of course come from right here at OverTheCap.

The basics can be found at ?15 GML Rules, Info, & Timeline and any questions will happily be answered!

I agree on Gordon somewhat but why the attitude last year after missing 10 games then come back and whine that his teammates didn't welcome his sorry ass back with open arms ?? really ..EARN IT ..EARN YOUR KEEP !

Manziel is a lost cause ..face it even if he straightens up ..fat chance that happens .. his skill set is still lacking ..move him out and move on from the little weasel . it was on several sites Irish besides Yahoo .

  17. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Because we don't have any leadership on offense...Gilbert was slacking and we have two players that weren't on the roster in 2013 getting on his arse to straighten up...Where in the hell is that leadership on the offensive side of the ball?

We NEED a player like Dez Bryant DESPERATELY to wake this offense up out of it's 15 year slumber. It all starts with leadership and grows from there...Right now, we have a couple of pro bowl linemen and no leadership.

  18. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Sorry, Irish. Can't go down this path you.

    1. The Cowboys had to hire a team of babysitter's just for Dez Bryant and this is the guy who you want to provide leadership?

    2. Dez Bryant will seek and get more money in Free Agency than you or I can imagine. Yes, he's a premier wide receiver. Yes,
he's a fiery player that can get peoples attention. But paying the asking price for this wide receiver with our QB situation
is akin to putting Michelin tires on a Yugo.

  19. Irish Brother I agree this team needs leadership. I have been typing it until my fingers bleed. But I don't think guy's like Bryant, Bulaga or D. Thomas will hit the FA market. Those teams will do what they can to keep them. I know we would.

I look at this a little deeper. Here in Cleveland we have 3 major sports teams. That being the Browns, Cavs and Tribe. The only one without a salary cap is the Dolans and the Tribe. The Browns and Cavs have those restrictions. They can only spend so much money to field a team. Now look at this. Gilbert tried at the beginning of the season to create the big 3. That didn't work. So he made some trades, made more trades and now this team is rolling. The Browns need to do this.

This isn't just me saying this. As Bluez pointed out this is coming from multiple news sources. Irish, Manziel played us bro. He was another college systematic QB. He wanted to be a 1st rd pick and knew there was only 3/4 teams that needed a QB and we fell for it. He played us all. Another guy like him is coming out this year. Mariota! He is a systematic QB. I think Winston is a moron who can't even speak sentences but he is more of an NFL QB than Mariota. That's why Kelly want's him so bad in Philly. He runs his system. But as far as Manziel goes Irish he is a joke. If we drafted Carr instead we would not have to be looking for a QB now! If we drafted Watkins/Evans we wouldn't be talking about needing a WR for the next time Pothead F$#$@ up. I look at the trade with the Colts as a wash. Richardson won't even be on that team here in 2 years and Manziel probably wont be on our team in 2 years. But if that pick would of been J. Mathews, Benjamin or Carr wouldn't that look a lot better now.

That's why I'm not getting excited about the draft. Face it the Browns don't know what they are doing anyway. I know last year I would of walked out of there with Watkins and Carr in the 1st rd. Think about that. Think how excited this fan base would be right now with a 12 to 19 1st rd pick. Instead people are talking about a bust by the name of Drunk Johnny and how we should trade Gordon. WOW!

The #1 thing this organization needs to do is to learn how to draft TALENT! STARTERS! Not bench warmers. Johnny Drunk isn't backing up Rodgers or P. Manning. He can't beat out a career journeyman backup named Brian Hoyer! Com mon man. Not only that he looked terrible doing it.

Haslam needs to take a page out of Gilberts book and make some trades until he gets it right. He needs to trade Johnny Drunk and Hippie Marley for what ever we can get. Then either sign Hoyer and draft another QB in the middle rds or sign a guy like Moore, Locker or Sanchez and draft a QB in the middle rds. If I was GM thats what I would do. If they could of got my advise last year before the draft we wouldn't need a QB and WR this year. But Farmer has to hit on this years 1st rd picks if they want a fan like me to keep giving a F$#@. I have the NFL ticket. With the Bucks rolling why destroy my weekends with the train wreck that just keeps sliding.

Citing nearly 20 Browns sources, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Pat McManamon report Johnny Manziel exhibited a "year-long pattern" of lacking commitment and preparation to football and a "continued commitment to nightlife" during his rookie year.

One player called Manziel a "100 percent joke." Team security reportedly found Manziel "drunk off his a--" the morning before the Browns' season finale. He was fined for missing a treatment for his injured hamstring and spent the Week 17 loss to Baltimore in Cleveland's locker room. During his first NFL start, "Several sources said Manziel either didn't know the plays in the huddle or didn't call them correctly." Sources also told Fowler and McManamon that since-departed OC Kyle Shanahan preferred Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Savage to Manziel as a 2014 draft prospect. Fowler and McManamon claim Manziel still has some "support in the (Browns') building," though it's mostly "on the business side."
