Ken . . . no matter who is picked up, there WILL BE a penalty in dollars. That's the price under performing teams with a bad management rap are forced to pay. Trading picks that could be used to improve the team around the QB now in order to improve our opportunities to snag that ever elusive "franchise QB" is what this team has done since their return. Now is the time stop that nonsense and simply draft to improve the roster. Down the road, if "that guy" falls to your draft slot, then take him but don't continue to reach for a player and then wonder that player sucks!
The trade with Cleveland would be for ammunition to move up, not to draft Mariota in Cleveland's spot...
Well, you know who made consecutive AFC Championship games with a killer Defense and top of the league running game and top offensive line in the NFL at the time? Spoiler Oops... :[ I mean Spoiler Is this what we all want?? *SCRATCH*
Lyn you are right, mortagaging the present for a good lotto ticket is foolish, and so very Cleveland esque. Make the best possible use of the draft picks to improve the "team", and if/when the QB becomes possible, go for it. My bad. And Yes Irish I could live with a superior D, and a modest O, quite happily, wearing a Tee shirt that says Cleveland Browns Super Bowl Champoins. There are many on this board who would love a "punch you in the mouth" dominating D, with a totally unimpressive offense, that wins with intimidation, turnovers and running game that just won't quit. Amen
Interestingly, Joe Wille was a legend, but if you look at the numbers you are correct, the running game made it work. Foles had that same advantage, along with a "new to the NFL" offensive scheme, which the league caught up to a little this year, and thus to Foles. Joe was an historic QB nonetheless. Wearing a fur coat on the sidelines, dating models, opeining a nightclub while still playing, shaving his legs for a TV ad........ let's just say he was Broadway Joe. Johnny Football with talent and leadership. I'd take that.
Well this sucks for the Browns and my draft want list! Calhoun DE from Michigan St. is staying in school another year. He must of heard the Browns are looking for defensive ends! That's alright he will get another arse whipping from the NATIONAL CHAMPION BUCKEYES again next year! Thank the good lord for The Ohio State Buckeyes at least with them I can see a championship football team. They hire good coaches who can bring great talent to their team. I still wonder if the Browns will ever draft any Buckeyes? Can someone please tell Farmer that we have the best college football team in the country that is well coached about 2 hours south of here please! BUST FOR BOSA!
OK, I have to admit, I'm still on a National Championship *HIGH* right now...BUT... With JT Barrett ready to re-take the reigns and possibly keeping Braxton Miller in Columbus... WHAT IF, newly crowned National Champion Cardale Jones decided tomorrow to declare for the NFL draft? He is eligible, 22 years old and coming off the best 3 game career in OSU History. He just got married, has a child... Cardale is 6'5" 250 lbs, fleet of foot, GREAT arm (can make all the throws), seems to be able to read defenses (Made Alabama look silly, Made Wisconsin look silly) Would he even last to the #12 pick if he were to declare? I know it seems almost stupid to pick a QB from a 3 game r?sum?, but he certainly looks for real... Would anyone take issue with drafting him if he were to declare?
HAHA, I just saw Cardale Jones after game interview and he said.."This is something Cleveland can hang their hat on"...Not Columbus, lol...Is that foreshadowing?
Yee-muther_phuquing-hawwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a game last night. Those first couple of drives the Bucks couldn't stop the Ducks except for a couple of dropped passes. The running game wasn't working and Cardale looked rattled with the pressure. It was just a matter of time before they settled down and started grinding it out. What win!!!!!!!!
Hey Irish, if that amuses you, there's an article on Yahoo Sports titled "Will Cardale Jones Go Pro?" http://sports.yahoo.com/news/will-o...s-crazy-as-you-d-think---084112146-ncaaf.html
Oh well. I'll see you guys later. Got to finish up one more week of jury duty. And somebody stop Crex from drinking straight from the taps. I'll have to sanitize those things when I get back.
The sad part of the great story of the 2015 Buckeyes season is that Stephen Collier may be the best QB for Urban's offense... Yeah, that's right, the 4th string QB
Jones isn't coming out! What are these people smoking? This is more Buckeye hating! Jones will be more NFL ready than what Manziel was! But I'm telling you all now. If Farmer can't find a way to get some Buckeyes of this football team I want him fired, move the team again and I will become a Bengal fan! I can say from his last years draft that I would of out drafted Farmer. Rod Smith is projected to be a 4th/5th rd pick. GO GET HIM! Not another bench warmers like your 1st rd picks. I'm serious here. Farmer needs to find a way to stop watching the Steelers draft Buckeyes and going to the playoffs and embarrassing your team. So I'm starting it NOW. BUST FOR BOSA, BUST FOR BOSA, BUST FOR BOSA! Shirts coming soon on line!
Crazy Crex?s Musings: *WRITE* Yo Lounge Houndz? Been a few crazy weeks around here for me, and I am finally getting things semi sorted out. *HELP* Congrats Buckeyes and Buckeye fans. *YAHOO* LOL Irish, I like what he has done to this point and has made a good case for entering the NFL. I am not sold that he is worth a first round selection, based on his limited, albeit impressive resume. I suppose it could happen given the lack of depth at QB in the 2015 draft. I like Elliot better. This quote speaks volumes to what I feel is a major key to winning championships. I?d rather Farmer spend his picks wisely and build depth (preferably in the trenches) in the first few rounds. Don?t reach for a specific player or position. Take the best player available, not the most flashy or popular. Crazy Crex?s Early draft prediction. Farmer will not draft a WR with either first round pick. *PARDON* Duff, Were out of clean glasses, the bartender is out on jury duty and Bluez?s dishwasher is on strike.
Don't be so certain Els...I could easily see why he would leave for the NFL. Like having a meeting with Urban and Urban explaining there are no givens that he will be a starter in 2015. He will have to show in Spring that he is ahead of JT and others... His stock may never get higher than it is RIGHT NOW and he is a father looking to make a career. Crex, I don't think his body of work will get him into the first round either..It merely begins the conversation if he declares for the draft. When coaches get this kid on the field and evaluate his skills and interview him..THAT is what will quickly move him from, what I expect, to be a 3rd round draft grade if he declares, to a first round grade by the time his pro day is over... He is 6'5", 250 lbs and will run the 40 under 5 seconds... He will make every NFL throw asked of him, as he would have the strongest arm of anyone in this draft class, that includes Jameius Winston.. If you take his production and average it out to a full season, and before you say you can't do that...His r?sum? is based on 3 National Level games in the B1G Championship and Two National Championship Playoff games (including the Championship) against 3 top level defenses. So it can EASILY be argued you can use those numbers to see what he could do over the course of a season... When you do you come up with: 243 of 399 attempts for 60.9%, 3,727 yards, 30 TDs to 9 INTs add in 1,282 rushing yards and an additional 4 rushing TDs < his projected stats would put him in the top ten of the NCAA His measurables could do the rest...
What I meant was for Kelly to eliminate the middle man (Cleveland). Go directly to Tampa Bay and offer up the Eagles 1st round pick -AND- Nick Foles for the Bucs' 1st round pick. That way he is guaranteed to snag his guy instead of jettisoning Foles with only a hope of getting his guy.
Irish I sure I would bet the house he is coming back. Miller is going to transfer, Barrett & Jones will be your QB's. Terrance Gipson 4 star QB from Florida is coming in next year also. This isn't the dysfunctional Cleveland Browns we are chatting about here. Unlike the lost, dysfunctional Cleveland Browns the Buckeyes hire the best coaches who can bring in great talent! The Browns should make a run at Fox and Lebeau. Great coaches that where you start. Then those coaches tell the GM what they need to succeed. That's where the Browns have sucked for a decade and a half. This organization doesn't know TALENT! But anyway Miller is gone, Barrett will back up Jones and Gipson will redshirt. There is also that Borrows kid from Athens I think coming in. But he is nowhere near as good as Gipson. OSU with Urban Meyer is building a dynasty! Hiring great coaches that can recruit great talent. That's the difference in the Browns and the Buckeyes. OSU hires the best coaches, Browns get who will come here. Until that stops the Browns will forever be mediocre. This year with all that money to spend in FA and all those draft picks we have and coming off a 7-9 season lets see who want's to come here and coach, lets see what FA wants to sign here. Remember we can afford anyone! This off season will tell you what you should already know about this organization! They are coming off their best record in years with millions of dollars and draft picks. Lets see how they add o this team meaning what play makers they can get. I mean that at any position. This off season will tell me if I should say F$#@ the Browns they are a waste of time and stick with the Bucks or actually stay on here and watch them hopefully improve. Because to this fan EXCUSES ARE OVER AND FOR LOSERS! Is my fall weekends going to be football on just Saturdays or Sundays also if I don't work? Because frankly I'm tired of wasting my sports youth on a team that can't do anything right, really. They have been an EMBARRASSMENT since they have returned. I could really draft better than every GM we have had here since returning. I know college football better than pro's. The Browns have put a sour taste in my mouth as far as NFL football goes. This is a team really not worth cheering for. For me it has come down to being from Cleveland just isn't enough anymore. So until the Browns finally do something positive........... GO BUCKS!!!!!!!
Els, Let's put this into perspective . . . In no way am I diminishing what tOSU has accomplished this year with Urban Meyer at the helm. Meyer has built this team using the same rules as everyone else on his schedule. However, Collegiate (FBS) football teams have a roster size limit of 105 players and a scholarship limit of 85 players both mandated by the NCAA. Beyond that, there are limits to how many players can travel for away games (excluding bowls or post season). This number is and can be mandated by both the NCAA and the teams' athletic conference and is typically between 60 to 64 players. So, a team like tOSU can have a roster one player shy of twice the roster size of an NFL team. In addition, this collegiate roster has no salary limits with which to comply. Given this freedom, it's no wonder that a school like tOSU can stockpile talented players at multiple positions. What I will agree with is that collegiate recruiting of high school players is very close to the NFL free agent process (less the salary cap). The more successful a college team is, the bigger the number of talented high school players that declare to that school. Likewise, the more successful an NFL team is, the easier it is to sign talented free agents. Beyond this, it isn't an apples to apples comparison.
Lym man an AD has to hire the right coach, a GM has to hire the right coach. The coaches have to work with their GM to bring in the talent that can run their scheme, system or whatever you want to call it. But as Ive been saying all along TALENT TRUMPS SCHEME! If a player can tackle he can in any scheme, if player can catch he can in any scheme, if a player can block, he can in any scheme and so on. TALENT! Just like high school to college. College to pro is no different. Yes a player will fall through the cracks ( CROWELL) yes they will be a bust Richardson, Weeden, Brown, Warren, Mingo and Manziel. All those players were picked in the 1st rd here. So Lym is it the players fault or the team that drafted him? I say its the team. In the pro's it's the owners fault they hired a bad GM who hires a bad coaching staff who in turn drafts bad players. THAT'S THE CLEVELAND BROWNS! Ownership in my opinion has sucked here since we've been back. The Lerners to me are in fault with how bad we are. It's to early to make judgement on Haslam. I think some things he has done good and I don't like somethings he has done. So I'm 50/50 on him right now. Same with Farmer. Pettine has done a good job with the team he was given. I'm excited about a 7-9 football team. But we have millions in cap space and draft picks. But we also don't have....... 1. A QB 2. Right side of line 3. TE 4. wide receivers 5. D-line 6. OLB who can rush the QB 7. ILB who can stop the run 8. AN OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR! I have said it 3 years in a row. THIS TEAM NEEDS TALENT! the best college football team is down the road and the Browns refuse to draft any Buckeyes, in any round. Are they jealous? Look at the Steelers, Bengals and Ravens rosters. How many Buckeyes do you see? Now do the same on the Browns.
