I'm watching Orlando Franklin O-lineman from Denver against Cinncy tonight he is playing LG which means he can play RG. I've seen him play RT also but he is throwing down out there! He is a free agent and only 26. Man handling dudes out there tonight! Get off your ARSE Farmer! He is abusing a division foe tonight!
Free agent QB Rex Grossman has rejected an offer to sign with the Browns for Week 17. Grossman is choosing instead to spend the holiday with his family. We can't blame him. The Browns have nothing to play for, and Grossman isn't in need of a one-week paycheck at the league minimum at the expense of missing Christmas. The Browns will turn to undrafted rookie Connor Shaw vs. Baltimore.
Hey, Els, this is a nice post. I see I talked you back from the edge. It's nice to have you point out what you see as the problems instead of a cuss filled rant that makes you seem (and nothing mean spirited intended by this) like a drunken lunatic. It's much easier to discuss when nobody is afraid of stepping on a landmine and setting somebody off again.
Duff Thanks man, lol! But this is getting old to me man! On Saturdays the Buckeyes get me up! On Sundays I'm watching a train wreck called the Cleveland Browns. Last year before the draft Irish, Lym, Bluez, you, me and everyone else knew we needed a future QB and WR before we found out Gordon was suspended (AGAIN). There was Watkins right at our freaking finger tips and.......... A FLIPPING TRADE DOWN! A 4 win team with 3 picks in the top 40 shouldn't be making trade downs. We should of walked out of that draft with Watkins, Carr/Johnny/Bridgewater and Bitonio! 2 starters and a backup QB! But instead we ended up with 2 backups and 1 starter! Or Evans, QB and Bitonio! We could of went Jake Mathews, WR, best QB available! Jake Mathews could of played RT!, Jordan Mathews then Best QB available! 2 starters and Backup QB! But again the GM dropped the ball in the endzone! Jordan Mathews is a stud! I knew he was good but Irish you hit the nail on the head with that one! Plus I feel if we don't trade Gordon he is going to leave in FA! We lose him for NOTHING! He is a selfish player, sometimes very good but lazy at times and selfish! He doesn't care about loyality! He and his agent knew that we would get nothing for him suspended for the year or 10 games. But this year he is NOT suspended! He has 1 more year on his contract with us! I honestly feel we didn't draft a WR because the Browns didn't want to piss him off! If we would of drafted Evans, Mathews or Benjamin they would of been our #1 if Gordon or when Gordon leaves! I don't trust Gordon and I don't want him on this team! I am done with selfish players. If Manziel dont change then I want him out of here too. There is no I in team! Those are the biggest I guy's on this squad! The Browns are too fragile to have that! They don't have enough leaders to have 1 cancer let alone 2! But thanks from bringing me back from the ledge bro, lol! But Man, I'm so tired of sucking!
With Manziel out, and Hoyer hurting, will the Browns turn to the rookie from South Carolina? CLEVELAND (AP) ? Johnny Manziel?s rookie season is over for the Browns, who may have to start rookie Connor Shaw in the season finale. Manziel injured his hamstring in Sunday?s loss to Carolina and coach Mike Pettine said Monday that the first-round draft pick will need several weeks to recover. Manziel, making his second start, got hurt in the second quarter against the Panthers and was replaced by Brian Hoyer, who sustained a shoulder injury in the second half. Pettine said it may be several days before the Browns know if Hoyer can play on Sunday in Baltimore. If he can?t go, the team will turn to Shaw, an undrafted free agent, who spent the season on Cleveland?s practice squad. Shaw will likely get the bulk of snaps in practice over the next few days and Pettine said the team is exploring bringing in another quarterback. Hoyer started Cleveland?s first 13 games and had the Browns (7?8) in the playoff hunt before a slump forced Pettine to switch to Manziel, the high-profile former college football star. Hoyer connected with tight end Jordan Cameron on an 81-yard touchdown pass against the Panthers. Pettine wasn?t sure exactly when Hoyer was injured, but said it came when he was hit making a long throw. Manziel went 3 of 8 for 32 yards before he had to come out. The former Heisman Trophy winner didn?t exactly shine in his limited playing time, but Pettine said the 22-year-old has made progress.
What if Shaw comes in and plays well? he has had his nose in the playbook from what I have read . he looked good in preseason . I know that was against sub par talent but he still shined . I have a funny feeling that Shaw will come in and play well . I just hope the rest of this team plays hard and doesent embarrass us this last week of the season . a 500 record I all I wanted from the get go this year . this team is far from a finished project . Farmer needs to for one draft well ..I know its only one year but the return this year wasn't very good except for Bitonio ... he did far better picking up street free agents .
Sorry to say TD that?s what you signed on for when you wanted this guy to be the future QB for this team. Gotta take the good with the bad with this one? I certainly hope that he truly settles in and takes to heart that he will have to work many times harder to be a QB in the NFL than he ever did as a college QB. In order for JF to be successful he will need to learn to play from the pocket, spend countless hours studying film, spend extra hours with teammates before and after practice, organize extra practice sessions away from . Until then we will have to live with all the miserable growing pains that come with this rookie QB. *WALL* *ROSE* *KISSING* Bluez, I do hope that if Shaw starts he plays very well. Send notice to JF that the other Rookie will be hot on his heels for the starting Gig. Let him know that he doesn?t have the starting gig all locked up? *CRAZY*
I feel everyone's frustration.... I am truly at a loss for words.... I don't know how to feel or where to point for the future... I certainly am hopeful that Manziel and/or Shaw take this off season and become a prudent pro that demands greatness from all around him. I am also fearful that many of you were right about Manziel and we are once again at the bottom rung of the NFL QB ladder. I am not convinced of any QB in the 2015 draft...That is another fear I have...Where do we go from here? As for the trenches, I am in agreement with each and every poster on here about upgrading there first and foremost. We have what would be a dream beginning for ANY NFL franchise in Joe Thomas, Joel Bitonio and Alex Mack...But then the drop off is very concerning. If we can get those other two positions to the level that these 3 play, it may not matter who is playing QB...at least the other issues on offense wouldn't be so blatantly obvious. I do believe a WR is critical this off season, whether Josh Gordon returns to form or not. We need more weapons for whomever is standing behind center. Defense is strong imho, the DBs are top of the food chain, but we MUST have personnel to stop the run, or that talent will be wasted. I don't think Skrine is a must sign, but I do believe they need to get Tashaun Gipson under contract, who is a restricted free agent! I have seen enough from K'Waun Williams, Pierre Desir and yes even Justin Gilbert (even if he is 3rd behind this young class) to move on from Skrine. If Skrine wants to stay, he will sign a normal contract and I would be ecstatic about that as well, but enough over paying for free agents either to come to Cleveland or to stay. He is replaceable by players currently on the roster. We NEED an ILB and OLB that can stop the run...We need to replace Ahtyba Rubin, whom I believe will move on in free agency because someone will over pay him and his injury history is getting a little long in the tooth. By my count, we need a starting WR, TE, RG and RT on offense...and very possibly QB We need a starting DL, ILB, OLB on defense...and FS if someone steals Gipson We get those 7 positions replaced with upgrades to current roster and the obvious...a QB that utilizes the off season to become a consummate professional QB and this team is on track to improvement over this year. The players that remain on this team will make fine backups, as Els stated above though, we MUST find starter quality replacements at certain positions. Time to fire up the Free Agency thread and get a draft thread going...The draft talk can begin in about 3 weeks, the deadline to declare for the 2015 draft is January 15th!! No reason to speculate before that date, since the college requests for evaluation is down 40% from last year, which means most likely the underclassman declaring will also be down significantly. EDIT: I guess I wasn't at a loss for words after all....
Crex, I don't wear a Manziel jersey. I'm just talking about wearing a hat or a sweatshirt with the orange helmet on it. I didn't "sign up" for ANY bullchit....We get heckled with the '$" sign because the team can't win games, and it's an obvious thing that every moron in the world associates with the Browns now....It's not the money sign that bothers me Crex. It's 15 years of sucking on the football field. If it wasn't the money sign it would be something else...It's the same as when the Saints were the "aints" and their fans literally wore paper bags over their heads because it was so unbelievably embarrassing. That's what the Cleveland Browns have become...an embarrassment to their fans....but hey, lets look at the bright side. We got Tyler Thigpen signed up today!!! Woohoo! btw; How many rookie NFL QB's didn't experience growing pains? lol! You make it sound like it's just Johnny....
In what could be a statement about the health of Brian Hoyer as much as the ridiculousness of the state of the quarterback union, the Browns have added another one. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Browns are going to sign journeyman Tyler Thigpen to give them some depth this weekend. With Johnny Manziel unavailable and Hoyer?s shoulder sore, they needed someone to go with undrafted rookie Connor Shaw, and Thigpen is as qualified as anyone, I suppose. He was in camp with them this summer before being cut in favor of Rex Grossman. The Browns offered Grossman the temp gig first, but he had a guy on the other line about a set of whitewalls and passed. Thigpen?s had an interesting offseason since being cut by the Browns. In November, he was arrested on DUI charges in South Carolina, when cops found him passed out in a Wendy?s drive through line. At least he was wearing pants.
Irish Brother I know what you are saying about the QB position! That's why I started talking about Mallett and Locker. I like you liked Johnny in college. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in a lot of things. But so far he has shown me nothing except for when a good defense(Bills) plays prevent defense! We can not afford to use 2 1st rd draft picks to take Mariota! But by last years draft Farmer wouldn't know what to do with those picks anyway! We need all that you mentioned and I. If we draft anything but a RT,WR,D-Line or some kind of LB in the 1st rd next year then I want him fired because he obviously doesn't know what the F$#% he is doing! Then I want an Application to be the Browns next GM! I would even hire some of you as assistant GM's and scouts! We could put together a 4-6 win football team! But anyway Irish I understand where you are coming from. We have 3 pro bowl lineman! Why not finish it off and draft a RG/RT and make this line DOMINATE! That 1st pick or the 1st player they sign better be a RT!
Johnny Manziel admits he has to take being a pro "a lot more seriously than maybe I did at (first)." In expansive comments Tuesday, Manziel was both contrite and somewhat defiant. "This is a job for me now," Manziel said. "I haven't painted the greatest picture of me of being in here and staying on top of myself." Manziel also implored the Browns to stick with him, saying "I don't think it would be fair to give up on somebody after seven quarters of football." The Browns' commitment to Manziel for 2015 is very much an open question.
Bluez, brother you need to get some sleep or you are one early bird. tweet, tweet!lol! I just read that on yahoo this morn. That he said it would be unfair for the Browns to judge him after just 7 quarters of football. I'm from the school where no matter what position you pick for in the 1st rd or where you pick in the 1st rd that player should be good enough to start! The only exception should be if your QB is Manning,Brees,Rodgers,Luck and maybe a couple others! I'm a believer that Manziel was a money pick! Money in that the cash register would start ringing and it did! The Browns needed to make a splash and there was Manziel! Also YES! We needed a future QB to backup Hoyer and it turned into a circus! I like Carr more! I didn't think JM would be there at 20 something! Maybe these teams knew something. I didn't want Manziel with that #4 pick. I wanted Robinson or Watkins. Man we could of had Watkins/Evans, Carr and Bitonio! I need to stop writing this because I'm going to get mad and want Farmer fired TODAY! I've hated all this change crap since we have been back but to me this guy has blown those picks in the 1st rd as of right now! Hopefully Gilbert and JM put in the work and get better next year. If not add them to the long list of 1st rd bust pick list. When your a 1st rd. pick and can't make the starting lineup on a 4 win team there is something wrong with that. I believe that's been our main problem since we have been back But I'm going to stop chatting about that it is Christmas EVE! Irish I'm with ya on the draft prep. I know from a lot of the NFL mock drafts that I have seen that there is a ton of underclassman that are coming out! But right now I'm more interested in the FA that we could sign. THIS TEAM NEEDS VETERAN LEADERSHIP! Especially on offense! That's why I want a vet QB. Locker or Mallett! Someone who has ran an NFL huddle. Mallett was Brady's backup too. Maybe he can bring in some HOODIE mentality! I'm to the point already that if Johnny is the man, GREAT! If not then who? As I've said before both this young men are better than Hoyer. So it would be an upgrade. Plus Johhny would still have 3/4 more years to learn a system. That would put him at 25/26 years old. I'm all about upgrading every position that we need to right now! Even at backup's. Man its early! I think I got this chit on the brain! GO BROWNIES and please don't blow this years 1st rd.
The good part about the rookie wage scale is that we can bring in a vet to start and salary cap wise, it would not hurt us to keep Johnny Clipboard until he's ready to be Johnny Football again.
Now I just read on yahoo that Monday Donte Whitner tore down Justin Gilbert and yesterday Carlos Dansby tore him up! Both said that it was to grow up and start being a pro football player! Defensive LEADERSHIP! Where is mighty Joe Thomas getting into Schwartz's arse about getting abused like a red headed step child! NO OFFENSIVE LEADERSHIP! The article said they tore him up! I say they should stop into Farmers office and tear him one too for drafting this bum! Alright ,Alright I dont want to get back to that! But as you all can tell by now, I right now am not a fan of Farmer! I actually don't know what this dude will do with these 2 1st rd picks. I like all of you know what we need but I did last year too and we didn't get it! All I can say is RT better be the 1st position addressed this off-season. They are already talking about a QB problem in Cleveland on ESPN! and yes they are talking about trading 2 picks for Mariota! Only the factory of sadness!!
I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!
I read that also .what about West ?? he is looking like another Dilbert with piss poor practice habits and a attitude from hell .. really Farmer keep drafting lazy bums with attitude problems ..MORON ..
Crazy Crex?s Musings: *WRITE* TD, Sorry if I ruffled your feathers a bit much. *SORRY* I get that it has been 15+ years of the same old same old as a Browns fan. Lack of stability in the front office, recycling GM?s, Coaches, and Players every other year, I definitely agree it?s pretty damn old. Yet with our boy JF, it has been magnified at least 10x. The JF hype train has brought this kind of attention to the Browns. Good, bad, and ugly. I too am getting grief from others I work with, and some aren?t even professional football fans. :| I get that all rookies go through growing pains, and didn?t mean to make it sound JF IS the only rookie that is going through those pains. Just that he is our rookie QB and his mistakes are magnified by all the hype that has been JF from the start. %) It?s no secret that I was not a fan of JF from the start. But now that he is a Brown I want nothing more than for him to become the QB you, Irish and few others believed him to be. Sure he says all the right things to the media, but I also get the impression he?s not doing all the right things to prepare himself to being that QB that ?wrecks this league?. I honestly hope that all changes. I truly do. I too want to see this team return to the success it once had. The good thing is the Browns have already won more games this year than they have for the last 7 seasons. The sad thing is they are looking at a 4/5-game skid and still looking like the same old browns. The ugly part is that the new owner cleaned house after last season when the same thing happened. I get the sense that the coaches may have lost the locker room these last few games. I don?t get the sense that they are playing with the same heart and hunger to win that they had earlier in the season. I certainly hope that Haslam stays the course with the current front office and coaching staff and begin promoting the stability that the Browns need to succeed. One thing that will go a long way toward changing the culture that festers in Cleveland is a big win over the ratturds this week. Happy hump day, Merry Christmas, And as always? It?s beer thirty Lounge Houndz? *DRINK*
