At 6-5 245lbs, yes, he'd be a mis-match if put in the slot... I'm not saying he's the worlds greatest TE, or even top 5 or top 10.... But he's also never started (due to the fact Ben Watson was on the roster) Chud and Turner know a thing or two about TE's... they see something in him, they'll be able to create mis-matches!
If u can plz answer....isnt just bout every TE 6'4-6'6? Leonard Pope is 6'7 and I dont think teams create many mismatches for him. Just cause u play in the slot doesnt mean its automatically a mismatch.
By Fred Greetham OBR Senior Browns Reporter Posted May 23, 2013 Although, Hoyer learned from Brady, he realized he wasn?t going to get much of a chance to play. 0 Comments BEREA?They say you can always come home. That?s at least true for the Browns newest quarterback Brian Hoyer. The North Olmsted native and St. Ignatius graduate joined the Browns last week after being released by the Cardinals on May 12. Hoyer just completed his first full week with the Browns as the team completed its second week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs). ?I think obviously, when you?re a kid growing up you dream of playing for your hometown team,? Hoyer said after Thursday?s practice. ?It really is a dream come true. I always grew up wanting to be Bernie Kosar and now to get a chance to play quarterback for the Browns. It?s definitely an exciting time.? Hoyer spent his first three seasons backing up Tom Brady in New England after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State. ?For a guy like me coming into the league couldn?t ask for a better place to be to see the way (Brady) approached the little things and set such a high standard I saw what it took to be successful at this level.? Although, Hoyer learned from Brady, he realized he wasn?t going to get much of a chance to play. ?It was a great opportunity to play behind Tom, but you never get an opportunity behind Tom because he never wants to come out, even if we were 40 points ahead.? Ironically, getting released by the Patriots might have been a blessing in disguise. He was released near the end of training camp in 2012 and didn?t catch on with another team until the Steelers were ravaged with injuries at quarterback and he was picked up in November by the Browns AFC North rival. Ironically, the Steelers were a team Hoyer disdained as a young Browns fan growing up. ?When you get to professional sports, it doesn?t matter what team you?re playing for,? Hoyer said. ?The Steelers gave me the opportunity to get back into (the NFL).? Hoyer suddenly seemed to be a hot commodity, despite sitting out for several months. When the Steelers released him, he was immediately picked up by the Cardinals and he started his first NFL game in the season finale against the 49ers. He was 19-of-34 for 225 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 27-13 loss. He was 30-of-53 for 330 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions on the season. In his first four NFL seasons, Hoyer has appeared in just 15 games completing 57-of-96 passes for 616 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions and a rating of 72.2. ?He was available and we decided to bring him in,? Rob Chudzinski said. ?He is a guy who has had experience. He has been around. With our situation right now, you don?t have enough reps to split, they are split a lot of different ways. ?He has a good arm and a good sense for playing,? he said. ?We are working him here and we?ll get more of a look at him as we go.? Finally, getting a chance to play confirmed to Hoyer that he could be a starting quarterback in the NFL. ?You realize when you get out there and actually get a chance to play, that it?s just football,? Hoyer said. ?There?s a lot of scheme and stuff like that, but when you get back out on the field and get a taste of playing, you realized for a guy like me who hadn?t played as much over three years how much you miss being out on the field. ?No doubt, I think I have the capability to be a starting quarterback.? Prior to free agency, the Cardinals tendered Hoyer with a second-round tender making it very difficult for a team to sign him. The Browns were rumored to be interested in Hoyer, but didn?t have a second-round draft choice to offer Hoyer a contract. Despite tendering Hoyer the second-round contract, when they acquired Carson Palmer, the Cardinals quarterback position changed. Hoyer felt his finish to the 2012 season allowed him a chance to continue his career, despite being on his fourth team in the last 12 months. ?I think the Cardinals did right for me by letting me go early, so I could catch on with someone,? he said. ?The way I finished last year I felt pretty good about opportunities I might have.? Hoyer said it?s been a whirlwind since joining the Browns. ?It is fun being home but it is my job and I?ve spent a lot of time studying,? Hoyer said. ?Being home is great because there?s a level of comfort. I didn?t need directions to get to work.? Hoyer remembers growing up as a Browns fan and he and his father were in attendance at the final home game in old Cleveland Municipal Stadium before the Browns moved to Baltimore. ?My dad and I were there,? he said. ?I remember being scared because people were ripping seats out all around us.? When Hoyer was signed, the Browns released Thad Lewis, giving Hoyer more reps. ?We don?t necessarily need a fourth (quarterback),? Chudzinski said. ?That is traditionally done, but we need reps and three is a good move for us.? Chudzinski said for now, Hoyer will continue to work with the third team, behind Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell. ?That?s how we will have them,? Chudzinski said. ?We will have them 1-2-3. We are getting some extra reps with the young guys and really working that so Brian has been able to get some extra reps with the three?s.? Hoyer is relishing the chance to play in front of the team he grew up cheering for. ?For me, I?m just learning from Brandon and Jason and coach (Norv) Turner is a great coach,? Hoyer said. ?I?m just grateful for the opportunity and am trying to improve myself.?
ESPN Cleveland reports Bill O'Brien, Ken Whisenhunt and Ray Horton all told Browns CEO Joe Banner they'd bring Brian Hoyer to Cleveland when interviewing for the head-coaching vacancy. Per reporter Tony Grossi, each coach considered Hoyer a "viable competitor for a starting job, and a solid NFL backup at the very least." We know GM Mike Lombardi feels the same way, but it remains to be seen if Hoyer has the arm coach Rob Chudzinski is looking for. Both Chud and OC Norval Turner favor big-armed QBs. Hoyer's not a real threat to Brandon Weeden's starting status.
If Hoyer pans out does this make Campbell trade bait ? it sure sound like it to me . either Hoyer or Campbell will be gone by the trade deadline if not before me thinks .
Both of these are right... to an extent. Jordan Cameron has thus far only proved he cannot stay healthy, so relying on him as the primary pass-catcher at the TE position is a risky move. This is why the regime brought in Gary Barnidge (whom Chudzinski keeps talking up) and Kellen Davis, as well as Davone Bess and David Nelson -- all of those players should see time in the slot role. That said, Jordan Cameron has to be considered the favorite as he has got all the tools you look for as a pass catcher. Besides injury history, his only other short-coming is experience. If he can stay healthy and live up to that potential, he very much has the ability to be a game changer out of the flex TE spot. We will have to see how this season plays out but it is a make-or-break (as seems to be the case with many on this squad) for him.
bluez... This isn't just the staunch anti-Weeden stance talking here, but I think Weeden has to be the favorite to get moved by the trade deadline. Lombardi and Banner both obviously really wanted Brian Hoyer. Any team that wanted Jason Campbell in the offseason could have had him but he signed with Cleveland. While all three have team-friendly contracts, Hoyer and Campbell were the pick-ups of this regime. Brandon Weeden will be given a chance to start but if he cannot seize the opportunity (or if he fails early on), I expect him to get moved al la Charlie Frye in 2007.
All three QBs will be on the roster imho... They looked at Thad Lewis briefly and knew he isn't what they are looking for and replaced the 3rd string QB with another 3rd string QB in Brian Hoyer. Plain and simple...you guys are looking way too hard at this. It is what it is... Jason Campbell is the backup(which is what he should be) It is Brandon Weeden's job to lose, when/if that happens...he will be replaced in the 2014 draft There is little to no chance Campbell or Hoyer were brought in here to be the future of this franchise. If they weren't planning on giving Weeden a chance to be the guy, they would have spent a pick on a prospect this year...especially when they all dropped lower than expected except Mine and SAS choice from this draft, E.J. Manuel.
I see the Barnridge and K.Davis signings as basically bringing a guy (Barnridge) that is familiar with what the TE's are asked to do in Chud's system to help along the younger guy (Cameron) and the K.Davis signing as bringing in a Blocking type TE, Davis isn't gonna catch a lot of passes (especially with his stone hands) but he's a hell of a lot better of a blocker than both the other guys combined, IMHO
Remember how under utilized Greg Olsen was in Chicago and then he finally displayed his ability when he went to Carolina?? We could very well have the same thing here. It will definitely be something to watch and see where, how, who and which TE is used this year.....regardless of the QB.
BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden is heading home to help his cherished Oklahoma heal. Weeden is returning to his home state this weekend to assist in any way he can in the aftermath of the deadly tornado that tore through Moore, Okla., killing 24 people and destroying thousands of homes in the Oklahoma City suburb earlier this week. AFC North blog ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley writes about all things AFC North in his division blog. ? Blog network: NFL Nation Weeden has been in contact with Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb and he plans to be there this weekend to help. "I'll do anything, whether it's getting in the rubble and doing whatever, it doesn't matter," said Weeden, who is from Edmond. "I'll be there to help." Weeden's wife, Melanie, has family in Moore. They were not injured by the monstrous twister, but sustained damage to their homes. "It actually went right through my wife's hometown," Weeden said following Thursday's practice. "Fourth Street, the path they keep talking about, my mother-in-law lives on Main, which is four blocks north of it, and my brother-in-law lives two blocks south of it. It went right over the top of them. Very, very fortunate to have no injuries and everybody's safe." Weeden, who starred at Oklahoma State, said there were some frantic moments for he and his wife when they couldn't contact family as the tornado bore down on Moore. "There's a park, literally there's two blocks between my brother-in-law and my mother-in-law," he said. "They said, 'If you're at that park, get out of the way.' It was destroyed. Once we heard it was destroyed, obviously there's no cellphone service. We couldn't get hold of them for about an hour. So my wife's panicked and we're panicked. It was tough being so far away." Weeden said family members were able to take cover in time. "My brother-in-law got in the car and drove away from it," he said. "My mother-in-law works in the administration building for Moore Public Schools, so she was in a basement, fortunately. Very, very blessed, we got lucky. But being up here, seeing my wife, she was rattled and it was very tough." Browns wide receiver Josh Cooper, too, was affected by the tornado. His father, Mike, works as a construction manager in Moore and was forced into an underground shelter. Cooper, who is from Mustang, Okla., said he felt helpless as he watched TV coverage of the tornado. "It was really tough," he said. "My heart was hurtin' pretty good that day. I was checking in with my family and friends and hoping they were safe." Cooper said no one he knew was seriously injured. He's certain Oklahomans will recover. "Everybody is kind of helping everybody," he said. "We'll be fine. We get through things like this all the time. Oklahoma strong, you know?"

Kellen Davis has hands of stone . i am having flasbacks to the Robert Royal days of dropped passes .Davis can block but God forbid if a pass is thrown his way . why they signed him is a headscratcher to me . Barnridge has good hands but is more of a blocker & is not that quick . I expect Jordan to flourish in this offense . just stay healthy . do not turn into Evan Moore who was a big Puzzy ..nice hands afraid of contact . he should have played baseball instead as he was the softest big man i ever saw ..disgusting
