Cundif sux, Gordon gave up, and then loses a TO, nice work Dipchit. Hoyer is done. Stick a fork in him. There we go Brownies, there we go. ( flushed out )
Well the defense played lights out. *DRINK* Honestly I am really super bummed. The Browns should have won this game. Hoyer missed two easy TD throws. That would have won this game nice season thanks, but you are not the answer. *TIRED* Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. Now at 7-6 and 2 games down. I don't see why JF doesn't get the nod here on out. :! With the Browns best record in many years it really sucks that now it looks like we need to think about next the future. *WALL* Go Browns... It's spoiler roll from here on out.
Well Ravens and Steelers won. Houston and Buffalo have the wildcard on us. As I said this was a must win game as was the last one. It doesn't look like we are going to make it fellas! Hoyer stated on numerous reports that he is not coming back here. I say GOOD! He just threw another pick on the last play of the game. From now on I want to see Manziel! He is your future! The season is all but over for us now anyway. Like I said 7-9 would be a great year to me. I think we can beat Carolina know matter who plays QB. So I'll call it 8-8. Now it's time for Johnny! We can see what he will do against the Bengals and Ravens. He will have to play them 2 times a year anyway. But I like the direction this team is going. Far as I'm concerned it was a good year. yes I feel it is also time to start talking a lil draft talk. This is Bowl Season! So after we all get our frustration out we can all start talking that draft. At least now we can see the major positions of need. In my opinion you can throw QB in there also! Hoyer I feel is going to leave unless we over pay him. I want a veteran! Someone who knows the NFL and will help JM and Conner Shaw out. Now their role. I'm excited about this football team! I like the coaching staff, I like Farmer and Haslem wants to win. He will get the fan support to do that here! Well gotta go finish my ribs for dinner. during this bowl season I'll be watching those college kids. also it's time to start looking at FA. Let's hang in there Brownie Mates! I have a feeling we are close! GO BROWNS!
Els, can't argue against it being a good year. That it was. I never thought i'd be worried we wouldn't hit 500, but right now that may be a reach. Sigh. Taking the long view, I would agree the team is headed in the rihgt direction. Still need the trigger man on O, but he D looks championship ready, expecially if we can get healthy. That said a lot of guys got playing time this year that will serve us well going forward. Record wise, it is hard to be real excited by hitting 500 when we played so many sub average teams, but meaningful December football, even if only for a week is a welcome change. I'm for starting Johnny now, for the rest of the season, let him make his first 20 rookiew mistakes this year, and hope he learns from them, so next years start doesn't have to be 0 and 3. There are a lot of good players on this team. Gordon looked winded, and obviously didn't run his deep route at full speed, thus making the pass look overthrown, and then double dipsticked it by costing the team a time out. He looked like he wan't in game shape. Not to knock him, but missing tem weeks showed up big time on the play that could have made the difference in this game, assuming (yikes) Cundif was ccapable of making 1 kick. Feeling very good about the D, and gotta believe every member of the D is a Johnny supporter after that incredible performance today.
Brian Hoyer absolutely wasted a marvelous defensive effort today. I stated two weeks ago that my support for him was waning, then last week lost what little hope for him I had left. I could see the reasoning behind Pettine's choice to stay with him this week but to continue with Brian Hoyer at the helm from here on out is just plain stubbornness. That said, I still do not believe that Manziel's skill set will translate to the NFL nor do I think he has it between the ears. So, in my mind, it's time for Pettine to prove me wrong.
Brian Hoyer completed just 14-of-31 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions as the Browns fell 25-24 to the Colts in Week 14. We'd guess he left at least 200 yards and definitely two touchdowns on the field in a horrific performance. Hoyer killed a promising Browns first-quarter drive with an end-zone pick thrown into heavy coverage. He also had a horrendous second-quarter overthrow of a wide-open Taylor Gabriel for a would-be touchdown bomb. Hoyer again missed Josh Gordon deep for another would-be TD in the fourth quarter. Cleveland actually had the lead for most of the game, so Hoyer stayed in despite awful play. The Browns will have to seriously contemplate turning to Johnny Manziel ahead of Week 15 against the Bengals.
Hoyer has flamed out . time to see what the kid has . I am pretty sure we will need a QB next year . I honestly don't think that Manziel will be the answer . I wanted 500 before the season started .looks like I will get my wish . sweep the Bungles this Sunday would be nice .the last home games . man this season flew by .
I am starting to wonder about Gordon here . it looks like he just isn't into the game ? you miss 10 games of this season . the Browns have stood behind you all the way during your bone head moves off the field . then you question why some teammates haven't welcomed you back with open arms . dipchit you missed 10 games how do you expect them to react ? Grow the phuq up !
Josh Gordon secured just 2-of-7 targets for 15 yards in the Browns' Week 14 loss to the Colts. This was the most-notable dud of the fantasy week against a Colts defense missing top CB Vontae Davis. Coach Mike Pettine revealed after the loss that the Browns purposely reduced Gordon's snaps on third downs because they "thought he was getting too many." When Gordon was in -- probably 60 percent of the time or so -- usual Colts LCB Greg Toler followed him around the formation and did a great job in press-man coverage. Expect Gordon to bounce back in Week 15 against Cincinnati. The Browns desperately need to commit to him as a full-time player, and it will be Gordon's fourth game back off his suspension.
From the OBR .. Mike Pettine's loyalty to Brian Hoyer during the game was not a good look. Taylor Gabriel broke into the open against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. For a brief moment, it seemed as if the Browns mopey offense would awake from its slumber and build on the momentum created by a defense playing at an All-Pro level. Brian Hoyer reared back and fired, over-throwing the wide-open receiver by at least ten yards. * * * The moment came, and the moment passed Mike Pettine by. We learn the most about people in times of adversity, of pressure, of crisis. Sometimes people fold up under the pressure, sometimes they persevere. Sometimes they pull back, become very cautious, and take no chances, playing it safe in an attempt to weather the storm. Hello, Mike Pettine. The Browns coach, in electing to stick with Brian Hoyer throughout a sub-lackluster offensive performance against the Indianapolis Colts seemed to show that he is an extraordinarily cautious man, concerned about the potential of disastrous failure. * * * There is no way to describe Hoyer?s performance against the Colts other than awful. The statistical line is evidence enough, as the Cleveland native finished with 14 completions in 31 attempts for 140 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions, resulting in an absurd 31.7 passer rating. Cleveland fans, well experienced in the realm of bad quarterback play, would register those numbers as somewhere between a Spurgeon Wynn and a Brady Quinn. Not a good place to be. Hoyer was nothing short of terrible, leading the team to frequent three-and-outs despite good field position. The bad performance was highlighted even more by the return of Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron to the field, joining stellar wide receiver Josh Gordon. Despite the offensive ineptitude, the Browns were in the contest throughout, leading until the final moments of the ballgame. This is thanks to an aggressive, opportunistic, and praise-worthy defense which scored two touchdowns, picked off two Andrew Luck passes, created four fumbles, and held one of the top NFL offenses in check throughout the game. * * * One should probably take Pettine at his word that he never considered a quarterback change, but such a thing is hard to envision. Hoyer, after all, was worse, if anything, against the porous Colts defense than he was the previous week against the ferocious Bills. If Pettine wasn?t afraid to put Manziel in against the ravenous front four of Buffalo, why was he concerned about playing him against Indianapolis? If a coach was hoping for a rookie quarterback to get some traction, a home game against a weak Colts pass defense would seem to be a good opportunity. If I were in his shoes, with a close game hanging in the balance and a key decision to be made, I would envisioning two scenarios: One where I made the change, and Manziel immediately turned the ball over, leading to a Colts touchdown. Or one where Manziel improved the quality of offensive play, allowing the team to take advantage of the opportunities created by their defense. One thing that should have been obvious, however, was that sticking with Hoyer was equivalent to dying a slow death. The Browns starter was simply not getting it done and was providing the Colts excellent offense with chance after chance. Andrew Luck simply couldn?t be given all those chances. A high chance of reward matched with high risk, or a slow bleed leading to the inevitable? Mike Pettine chose the latter on Sunday.
Just heard on ESPN that this might be Hoyers last game as the starting QB of the Cleveland Browns. They also said that the Browns were going to make Hoyer lose his starting job. From what the guy said that's exactly what Hoyer has done! The commentator continued to say that this was a must win for the Browns and down this playoff run he has under performed. He continued to say that this decision is going to come as early as tomorrow! The Brown's do not want to wait until Wednesday like they did a week ago. With this coming out tonight and for the last 2 days yahoo has been reporting Hoyer is not going to resign with the Browns this off season it looks like Hoyer is rolling in FA! I don't blame him for wanting to be a starter. But sometimes reality will bite you in the arse! As I said before, if he will except the backup roll and help groom Johnny then for a reasonable price I would sign him. He has proven his (real) ability this year in my opinion. That's as a good backup. So when we start talking FA we will have to include the QB position.
I just got an update from ESPN.COM on my computer. It said that when Crowell scored that TD it was the offenses 1st TD in 21 drives without Manziel at QB! Which is not very good. It also said the Browns defense did a great job causing 4 turnovers and scoring 2 TD's. The writing is on the wall fellas! Brian Hoyer is done being the Cleveland Browns starting QB! Maybe being a Cleveland Brown. He sounded very confident before the season. I wonder what happened? By the actions of his play he has either no confidence or knows Johnny is just better! Either way I believe he is done here in Cleveland!
I heard there was a donnybrook in the locker room after the game *ROSE* . don't know who it involved but a few punches were thrown . no way to end the season . so much for brotherly love huh .
OK... I started to spew about three times last night, realized I had nothing nice to say and erased it. I finally fell asleep. woke up at 5:00, worked out, showered, started to write again...erased it...got my daughter up, made some breakfast and here I sit... Nothing nice to say.... I usually stand by the Mantra, If you haven't got something nice to say then.... Well, I thought long and hard and I DO have something nice to say...it only took about 15 hours to see past the red dots that littered my eyes after that game. This team never gave up...This defense made me PROUD to be a Browns fan, they played their asses off. There, that's about it... Now I can't leave for work without getting this off my chest.... I am so pissed that Pettine is such and arrogant ass that he can't put his pride aside to give this team a fighting chance. I am not over reacting in the least bit. I could see what Hoyer was from day 1. Which I was ABSOLUTELY fine with because Hoyer is a career backup who SHOULD give a team a chance to win, otherwise he would be useless. I never felt he was useless. He did his job admirably, which was playing consistent football within his limitations for the first half of the season to give a new first round draft pick an opportunity to learn how to be a pro and learn a pro system. To acclimate to his new environment and his new teammates...Hoyer excelled at mentoring him on what is needed to prepare for a game in the NFL...THEN, well the league caught on and it became obvious this was going to go south in a hurry. As the opponents pressed, the game has become too much for a career backup, not due to his skillset of intelligence and hard work, but simply because he doesn't have the abilities needed for a full time starting QB. Then....we have a situation where the beast has been built that this backup believes he is the reason they had a winning record...the coaches did their job in instilling confidence in this young man, kudos.... NOW...The cat has been out of the bag for QUITE SOME TIME that Hoyer will not be able to get this team to the playoffs. The lack of physical ability needed down the stretch of a playoff run when EVERY team is coming at you with every gun in their arsenal is not there. The coaching staff did a nice job of hiding the rookie for as long as they could to keep this team unified, which is another trait needed for a playoff team....UNTIL last week, you unleash the Kraken and he leads this team on an 80 yard TD drive showing every skill you hoped he possessed when you drafted him in the first round.... The CAT is out of the bag...Only something happens behind a closed door before the press conference to announce him as the new starter, SOMEONE choked in that meeting and when he choked, his ball sack fell wide open with the jewels falling to the ground... This decision may define Pettine's tenure as head coach of the Browns. I felt all along Pettine's job is so secure after leading this team to the season they have had, then "The Decision Part 2" Haslem doesn't like people not willing to put everything out there to succeed...well Pettine then says in post game, Never had a thought about replacing Hoyer in this game....What?? Really?? Never had a thought about it??? That brings into question this man's ability to make hard decisions in order to help this team win games. I am for the first time, having a hard time getting behind Pettine, who I had a high respect for up until now... NOW, I am just pissed. They are CHEATING the fans of this great city of a chance to make it to the playoffs for the first time in well over a decade!! IF, Pettine doesn't change his course RIGHT NOW, I mean TODAY and name Manziel the starter going forward, I personally will want his head on a platter and wish for a coaching change THIS OFFSEASON!!! I LOATHE regime changes, I feel continuity is the only way for a team to become a championship team, but this is the MOST RIDICULOUS situation I have ever seen, his absolute egregious effort to lead this team is fireable. RIGHT NOW, you should be doing everything in your power to elevate this team to the playoffs and you are flat out refusing out of pride...fireable DO WHAT YOU KNOW IS NEEDED AND MAKE THE CHANGE TODAY!!! OK, sorry for the rant...I am just as pissed now as I was at 5:00 PM yesterday...Not sure how I am going to calm myself down
Great post Irish...I couldn't agree more. I've lost a helluva lot of respect for Mike Pettine over the last few weeks. It's just sad...I've asked this question after each of the last few games and it needs to be asked again unfortunately. How ef'n bad does our starter have to play before he's replaced by the first round draft pick??? It's absurd....That was a total giveaway yesterday. Andrew Luck should send the Cleveland coaches a X-mas card. I don't know what Hoyer's red zone QBR is, but my guess is really low...Much like the Baltimore game earlier this season, Cleveland out-played the Colts all day. That is until our dreadful QB finally made enough mistakes to hand over the victory. Absolutely pathetic.... Browns fans were robbed yesterday...Stripped of any real post season opportunities because our jackass coach has no balls whatsoever. Why did these morons even draft Manziel? That's what I want to know...its just a shame. I can't believe Pettine didn't make a move at some point and we had to sit through that shit. It boggles my mind. We just threw away the season in a game we should have won by 20....How many wide open receivers can Hoyer miss? Geezus. That was just awful. Words can't even describe how bad Hoyer sucked yesterday...
Irish I'm chuckling right now because my retired USW uncle called me at 7:00 in the morning to rant about the exact same thing, lol. He said this earlier in the year just like the rest of us that he didn't want JM to start. For all the reasons you just stated. He wanted JM to learn, he wanted Hoyer to do good and most of all he wants the Browns to win. Then he went on about Pettine. He said the exact same things that you just said. He said it is his job to start the players that give us the best chance to win.The last 2 weeks during this playoff run he has failed to do that! After everything I've read and saw Hoyer is done here in Cleveland! Because of everything you stated. Pettine to save his face and maybe his job has to make this change! GOOOO Browns.
The Cleveland Browns can't get out of their own way...and their coach has no sack. Seriously. He coaches like he has a vagina. I think he's afraid it'll hurt Brian Hoyer's feelings if he makes a switch at QB... So here we are at 7-6....We just threw away the season and our head coach is apparently lacking the crucial male anatomical features needed for such a position. Oh, and he likes to stick with our QB that throws about one accurate pass for every five....smh great to be a Browns fan...thanks coach. Merry X-mas.
