    whew. that was too close

Hoyer was awful (again)...but he got it done at the very end after throwing the game away twice. lol! unbelievable!

I'm really starting to think it's Johnny time....Hoyer has some serious accuracy issues, and if the Cleveland Browns are going to make a run, then damnit they need to let JM show what he can do...

  4. DvlDawg Starter Browns

We are in position to make this run in part because of Hoyer. What happens if we yank Hoyer for JM and JM fizzles bad enough to cost us this run? Even if it's not really his fault that we lose, the fan base will still blame him if he is not perfect. Putting JM in at this point is completely unfair to both men.

Best case scenario is that JM comes off the bench looking like what we all hope he is.

Worst case scenario is that he comes off the bench looking like what I am afraid he is. In this one we lose both QBs, and are looking for our 95th starter next year.

As always, I will support whomever is under center.

    GO BROWNS!!

I agree with you 100%, lol

    YES, BOTH of you....

The Browns are winning despite Hoyer, imho...BUT, this is the worst situation you can throw a rookie into. It is one thing to throw them into the fire to start the season, and they have their growing pains causing a bad/mediocre season. Or even, as a backup to take over for an injured player.

But to pull the QB, even if he is playing bad, when you are winning games despite the mistakes. Well, that would be setting JM up to fail for the future.

At this point, we take what we can get this season and improve upon that in 2015.

I think Josh Gordon is going to be a great factor in opening up this run game down the stretch. That is going to be this team's calling card...I hope...It really didn't seem like Gordon did much in the game, then boom you look at the stat line and he caught 8 balls for 120 yards and the even bigger impact...Crowell - 7.33 YPC, 2 TDs and West 4.43 YPC.

I still believe the Browns can win this division. They need to shore up some things on offense AND defense, but they are doing what is needed to stay in this race. No team in this division is going to give us anything, it is going to have to be ripped from all of their grasp. I just hope we are the one's standing in the end.

I can't agree more with all said here. As Lyman said earlier, my support in Hoyer is waning but he keeps winning despite himself. At this point in the season, I'm getting more worried with the defense. We lost another guy when Gipson went down.

The thing that concerns me most, will we have enough capable men on DEF to finish the season let alone push for a playoff spot? One comment during the game hit the nail on the head. They were saying it would be difficult to find replacements who aren't on any teams' rosters at this point and that those guys aren't on a roster for a reason.

  8. Hoyer is what he is. Inaccurate! This is a tough call for the Browns and us lounge houndz. Yes Hoyer is wining. Something us and the whole city of Cleveland has been waiting for. But I just don't trust this young man with the ball in his hands. I haven't figured it out yet either. He is wining, we are wining so I'm very pleased about that. He comes from behind to win games but it's ugly.

I started playing organized sports at the age of 5, tee-ball.lol I was a state placing wrestler in high school and jr. college baseball player. The one thing I learned is sports is a percentage game. Every thing from take downs to batting to how many times a game you run the ball is percentages. Hoyer started out this season with a very good turnover percentage. He didn't throw a pick for the longest time. Great turnover percentage. Now its evening out. He threw 3 picks yesterday. He is what he is. Inaccurate, inconsistent or whatever you want to call it. We just got to hope the picks don't continue down this YES, playoff run. Yahoo reported yesterday that he was bummed out about his play after the game yesterday. He's an intelligent man. He knows every pick he throws is knocking off millions on his next contract, he knows this may be his last chance at the big pay and he also knows he has Johnny Manziel breathing down his neck. Does he have ice water in his veins? Or will he crumble? Because right now is money time! Right now is the time you earn your pay check. Is he the next Graham, Sipe or Kosar so to speak? I guess we all have to wait and see. Including him. Lym, i think the confidence in himself is waning. He is starting to feel the pressure. Everything from being the hometown kid to turn this thing around, Manziel, playoffs and that next contract!

I like most of you want this team to succeed. That's #1 with me. I don't care if it's me, you, Hoyer or Manziel that can help this team do that at QB. I honestly feel this situation will not only make or break the Browns but maybe even Hoyer himself. If Hoyer can grow from this mentally and on the field then we will be alright. If he crumbles at this then I don't want him as my starting QB. Mental toughness is a part of life. Does he have that ice water in his veins or will he crumble?

GOOOOOO BROWNIES! We are going hunting this week boys. Time to put the women & children to bed and go looking for dinner!

Agree with most of the sentiments expressed here. A win is a win and am glad that the Browns escaped with a one. Though this game really shouldn?t have been that close.

    Passing thoughts:

On Hoyer: Fugly just plain Fugly. :! I doubt that the Browns will win another game if he keeps playing like that. I too was left wondering if we would see JF. Yet, when the chips were down he managed to put the team in a position to win the game. This team will not make the playoffs if he continues to put up stinkers like that. If Gordon isn?t open stop trying to force the ball to him. This team won?t overcome this type of performance games against better teams. Agree with Lym and others here. I too, am losing faith in his abilities, or lack thereof. Though putting JF in now could potentially be more detrimental to the long term success of this team. The leash has to be getting shorter.

Side note: I think if/when the Browns are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs JF sees his first action. Hopefully that is next September. ;)

Coaching: It?s a mystery to me why Shanahan and Pettine don?t play call more to Hoyer?s strengths more by staying in an up-tempo offense. *SCRATCH*

West and Crowell: What a pair of rookies Farmer found. How refreshing is it to see the Browns running the ball and winning? When was the last time a team had more rushing TD?s than Passing TD?s and a winning record? *THUMBSUP*

Gordon: Great to have him back and put up such an impressive stat line. His presence will surely help improve offensive production. *BRAVO*

Let?s not forget about Hawkins and the rest of the WR group that has done an admiral job this year despite the poor play form the QB position.

Defense: Theme of the year is ?Next man up?. What an ugly year for injuries, the defensive depth is truly being challenged week in and week out. So far they are hanging in there. How long will it last? Honestly, I don?t? think they can keep the Browns in the remaining games on the schedule, if the QB play continues to be as horrid as it has been the past few weeks.
    ?
Am very happy that the Browns are 7-4 at this point in the season, it has been far too long since they have been in this position. Yet they are a long way from making the playoffs. A little help from NO will go a long way starting tonight and next week.

It seems most of us have come the point of believing Hoyer isn't winning the QB spot for the future, but simultaneously we aren't willing to turn over the remainder of this season to Manziel. Gotta wonder if camp opened today if JF would be the starter, but that not being the case, we are ready to ride Hoyer to the conclusion of an unexpected playoff run, he has been instumental in creating. Fair enough IMO.

As long as there is hope for a playoff berth this year, Hoyer is the man. You simply cannot upset the team chemistry on the "hope" that JF will make it better, even though it may be true. It's the "may" part that derails that right now.

I will say this though. Hoyer "has" gotten us to this point. Yes he has had some stinkers. Yes the D is largely responsible for some of the Ws, but Hoyer hasn't "lost" games for us. Many of his clunkers co-incided with poor line play coupled with poor running game, and IMO the O has been too quick to abandon running ever since the post Pittsburgh games. Hoyer ins't now , nor ever will be Tom Brady, so why are we throwing 40 plus times so much? We really haven't been in trailing postions by two scores very often, but still seem to lean on passing heavily.

That aside, I would agree that while the game wasn't "too big" for Hoyer when he stepped in last year, and as he took the starting role this season, as the stakes have risen, his performances hasn't, and arguably has worsened. His calling card was level headed, mistake free guidance of the O, and in that area he "was" consistent, allowing us to win games where the O wasn't good, but the D could stop our opponent. That was still "good" IMO, but now I am seeing poor decisions being made, and it makes me wonder if the games are becoming "too big" for our hometown hero.

I give him the benefit of a doubt, given he is only starting for the first time this year, and certainly has never been in games as menaningful as the ones he is playing now, but he has to get back on top of it, and stop this painc reacting, and forcing things, especially when the situation allows for you to let the play go, and line up again, without the outcome in jeopardy. I mean taking risks when we have the upper hand. It would be different if we "had" to make "this play" or we are out, but that hasn't been the case. That is what I mean by the game getting "too big". I would suggest that he wouldn't have done that in the earlier games, so what has changed.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Browns FS Tashaun Gipson has been diagnosed with a torn MCL, and is done for the regular season.

Specifically, he'll be sidelined 6-8 weeks. Per Rapsheet, Gipson has avoided ACL damage, however, and could return for the postseason if the Browns elect to hold him off injured reserve. It's a huge blow for 7-4 Cleveland, as Gipson's six interceptions lead the league. Gipson has graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 safety. Jim Leonhard and Jordan Poyer are the next men up on the depth chart.

I was sitting back wondering when this was going to come up....

I can tell you this, if a strange guy came towards me telling me he wanted to hug me, I would have laid him out...

Let alone being a celebrity and having it happen, in a residential apartment building mind you! This isn't in a night club parking lot where it caused a major disturbance.

A joker and his brother caused the scene and Johnny's entourage did what they are meant to do and shut it down...

This is a news blurb, but it is a no story in the career of Manziel in Cleveland...it means absolutely nothing.

I know many of you expect this 21 year old to find a wife and settle into a quiet married life and only do things like have children and play football for our team...That is ridiculous to expect. The kid went out on Friday night and went home safely, until he got to the elevator. He didn't even break a team rule in any of this. When he breaks team rules, I will worry about it. Until that happens, let the Hoyerists scream...

Losing Tashaun Gipson sucks. I feel bad for him, as he was having an all pro season. Hopefully Poyer or Leonard can fill the void in the secondary, though replacing a guy playing at the level that Gipson was certainly wont be easy...

Cleveland should have won by a couple TD's yesterday. I'm glad they got the W, but all the mistakes are concerning. The int Hoyer threw in the back of the endzone was absolutely inexcusable. The were very fortunate that it didn't cost them the game. Pettine should send Mike Smith a X-mas card for his mishandling of Atlanta's timeouts in the last couple minutes...

Just amazing that our entire division could be 7-4 or better if Baltimore wins tonight. I have never seen anything like that....Cleveland just has to stay focused and keep pace. Buffalo is next. No extra motivation needed for them.

Not trying to pee in anyone's Wheaties Irish. *REF* I'm sure the guy had it coming. From what I found he appears to be one of those people that looks for that kind of trouble to get $$ from people.

I don't expect JF to settle down and act like an ole fuddy duddy with a wife and kids all at once.

I would have less concern if this happened on a Tuesday or Wednesday, probably wouldn't even think twice about it. Yet the incident was reported Saturday Morning, when I personally would expect players to be at home resting and getting prepared for Sunday's game.

Given the poor play that we've seen from Hoyer the past few weeks, I half expect to see JF sooner rather than later. And as a Browns fan I am concerned as to whether or not he is Truly committed to playing ball on Sundays.

Plus it's just not the type of PR JF or the team needs. Just saying.

  17. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Bad news indeed about Gipson. I suspect if the Browns fall out of the playoff chase, both he and Dansby will be placed in IR.

Nope . . . not even thinking about screaming. You're absolutely correct . . . IF he had broken a team rule (which Pettine came out and said he did not), then I would scream. This is non-event.

  18. kendawg Guest

I agree this is a story only because it is JF. It wouldn't happen to Joe Thomas or Brian Hoyer because they aren't targets. They don't have the celebrity status that draws this kind of thing.

Would I like to think JF was home earlier, and going through mental reps? Sure, but I certainly can't expect it, or criticize him for something that has no impact on the team. Should Hoyer have been hurt and JF had to go in, then performed badly, maybe I would think differently, but that's a lot of "ifs".

We have been fortunate that Hoyer hasn't been injured (though some might argue differently). With 6 intensely critical games to go, an injury to Hoyer now, would likely doom any playoff run. I'm not trying to say JF doens't have the talent, but merely that a change at QB right now to a rookie, regardless of talent, is risky at best.

IMO next year's QB position is up for grabs, but it remains Hoyer's to lose, because if we go to the playoffs this year it is going to take 10 or more wins to get there and if he does that, we are talking about a guy who has a record of 12 and 6 or better. That is hard to ignore.

At the same time he rarely looks impressive, doesn't have a cannon, and his completion percent demonstrates his accuracy weakness. Yet he wins. I think we have a pretty good team but I can't argue that they carry him anymore than I can say he carries the team, so what to do?

I thought by now we would have a clearer picture of our QB situation, and in some ways we do: Hoyer is the QB for the season, but still...........

    Crazy Crex?s Musings: *WRITE*

Given the wild rollercoaster ride we fans have been on this a season. Do the Browns have what it takes to make the playoffs? Up till now I?ve been more concerned about taking this season one game at a time and letting the rest take care of itself. At 7-4 going into the home stretch of the schedule with 5 games left the Browns are one-half game out of first place, and tied with division rivals BAL and PIT. Post season dreams start coming to the forefront.

Key Injuries have plagued this team from early on in the season, and yet they still have managed to keep themselves in a position to actually make the post season. Winning, albeit ugly more times than not, they still have managed to win. Despite that the Browns are still on the outside looking in.
The remaining schedule is by no means a gimmie. Cin, Bal and Pit are appear to be gaining momentum and arguably have an easier schedule down the stretch.

IMHO at the very least, in order to have a shot, the Browns will need to win at least 3 of the next 5 games, with the 2 remaining division games (CIN, BAL) being MUST wins. That would leave the Browns needing a win at BUF, or at home VS IND or CAR. Despite that, a 10-4 record may still not be good enough to get in. If they can somehow find a way and win all 5 games they stand a good chance of winning the division and at the very least getting a wild card birth.

The road is going to be a bumpy ride and the Browns are going to have to fight tooth and nail to make it happen.
At this point in the season ending up 7-9 would be a disappointment in more ways than one.
If they take care of business and win 3 out of 5 do they make it or not?

  20. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

If they win all 5 games they WILL win the division. The only team that could POSSIBLY tie the Browns at that point would be the Steelers, and I don't see both of us going 5-0 down the stretch.

It could happen...but at 12-4, the Browns will not be denied a wild card...THAT is for certain!!

I think if they beat both the Bengals and Ravens, and one more game...they win the division. I don't believe the Steelers will sweep the Bengals. I would feel safer if they won the division games and 2 of the 3 remaining...
