Browns TE Jordan Cameron returns to practice Friday
    by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Browns tight end Jordan Cameron returned to practice Friday for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 9, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Cameron has missed the past three games with the issue and will need to be medically cleared by an independent neurologist in order to play Week 12 at Atlanta. Coach Mike Pettine will likely provide an update on his playing status following Friday's practice.

Picture this: Browns welcome Josh Gordon back to a 6-4 team in the thick of the playoff hunt. Wait, that actually has happened.

Time for a small exercise. Close your eyes and put yourself back to the morning of Sept. 8. It was opening day for the NFL and the Cleveland Browns were getting ready to play at Pittsburgh.

OK, I?m there. No, I promise this won?t get weird. If I told you then I have the power to make the Browns 6-4 entering their Week 12 game at Atlanta AND Josh Gordon will return that week, would you have accepted my proposal?

    Of course!

Yes, the Browns arrived at this point with some questionable performances. The inability to close out a beaten Baltimore Ravens team at home in Week 3, the loss down in Jacksonville after a big win against the Steelers and last week?s stinker at home to Houston after a big Thursday night win against the Bengals.

Big picture: The Browns have six games of meaningful football remaining to be played. This hasn?t happened since 2007. This is a good thing.

We can defer draft talk for another two months, or so.

Back to the games. The conventional wisdom is that Gordon?s return will help the offense that has mostly struggled since center Alex Mack was lost for the season. Without Mack anchoring the offensive line, the Browns running game has slowed down and play action passing rendered useless. As the Browns suddenly displayed the inability to run the football most pointed to this week as to when the Browns? running backs will get relief.

Few expected Ben Tate not to be in the mix.

Tate was released this week meaning the running back duties fall upon two rookies ? Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West. Crowell appears to be the better back, but fumble issues are holding him back. Last Sunday against the Texans, Crowell?s red zone fumble was a huge momentum swing. When Crowell isn?t putting the ball on the ground he?s running well and West?s spot duty is more than admirable.

The Falcons run defense is allowing 4.0 yards per carry and allowed 25.5 points per game. This game sets up perfectly for the Browns. Run the football, save Brian Hoyer from having to throw the ball 50 times and keep the Falcons offense off the field.

    Sounds simplistic enough, eh?

When the Browns defense is on the field that?s when the concerns begin. Oh, how the Browns run defense struggled.

Alfred Blue gashed and beat down the Browns for 156 yards on 36 carries. In seven of the Browns? 10 games, the opponent has rushed for at least 127 yards. Meanwhile, the injuries keep piling up on the Browns defenders, which make for scary circumstances with these final six games. They can?t stop the run and they haven?t been able to get to the quarterback. Uh oh.

Unfortunately, the same powers I had giving the Browns a 6-4 record and Gordon back in the lineup have failed when trying to give the Browns a 5-1 record in these final six games.

The question Sunday will be can Gordon have that big of an impact? Doubtful. He amassed 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games last year and the Browns still only won four games.

It seems, based on what has happened so far this year, that the rookie running back duo will have a bigger impact. If the Browns can establish the run and commit to the run it takes the onus off Hoyer.

And, can you image how effective play action would become with Gordon running routes along with Miles Austin, Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins?

Go ahead, close your eyes and again and picture that.

    Sunday should be fun.

Jordan Cameron (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 12 at Atlanta.

The good news is he practiced and is making progress. The bad news is the few fantasy owners who've continued to roster Cameron through his injury-plagued year will not have him available in a favorable matchup. Cameron does seem to be on track to return for Week 13, although that's not a guarantee. We'll have several updates on his chances of playing next week.

    Next man up...

  12. Yes I was about to comment on that. I saw earlier this week he was coming back. The fantasy guy said he would get a few catches. But just before I came on here I saw on yahoo that he is back to practice but wont play. Bluez asked me where I found that earlier in the week. It also said he is not worried about the lasting effects of concussions. Since we are playing the Falcons I remember that play of the picture with Green. "Run William Run", LOL! Yet another Browns bust pick who will live forever in Browns history with that one play.LOL!

As I said earlier in the week. We have to contain their passing game to win this game.

With Apologies to Bluez: teams dont' win with the run.

I hate to say it, cause I hate to watch our D play backing up all day, but truthfully it is a rarity for a team to Run to victory. Even teams that run well end up scoring on passes, and even if they do score on runs, forcing a team to go the distance on the ground eats up a lot of clock, so you virtually cannot be blown out by a team running on you.

Now the only reason I am willing to bring this up is, Our Browns are not going to be healthy enough for the rest of the year to expect to "stop" the run, without becoming vulnerable to getting beat quickly by the pass, and as much as it pains me to say so, we will have to live with that, if we want to complete. On the flip side, our O has to be the unit that we look to to "win games".

On that front I believe we have the horses to pull the wagon. I believe we will be able to run "effectively"/ not exclusively, therefore opeining up the field for what should be a much more powerful passing attack, now that Josh is back. Gordon is enough of a difference maker to make both the Run and the Pass games better. Hoyer will be Hoyer, which means some misses, but also his, and ball sceurity. That will have to be enough, or we will be focussed on 2015.

I think we could have had a DOMINATING D, this year, but injuries piling up on one side of the ball have made that a next year thing, and now the D needs to keep opponents out of the end zone and that should be enough.

Atlanta, here we come? GO BROWNS !!!!

when the weather turns late in the season you have to be able to run the ball . running the football and stopping the run is a sign of toughness . if you can fire of the LOS and smack the other team in the mouth it gets inside there head . nothing worse to a teams mental state than getting the living hell beat out of you and you cant stop it .

it opens up play action . take your shots and good things will happen . call me old school but it still works today it will still work twenty years from now . I am not saying run the wishbone . you have to have some balance . to me your base offense should start with the running game .

control the clock control the game .

go smack Atlanta in the mouth this Sunday . keep Ryan and those lethal WR off the field and our chances of winning go up !

Browns CB Justin Gilbert didn't play a single snap in last week's loss to Houston.

Gilbert has played just 21 snaps over the last three games. He's behind UDFA K'Waun Williams as the No. 4 corner and doesn't have a role in sub-packages. Gilbert might not regain his starting job until 2015. Buster Skrine will continue to play opposite Joe Haden in base sets.

This is all relative in the defensive backfield...

Everyone is comparing Williams to Gilbert, UDFA beats out top ten pick...

Truth is, Buster Skrine, a 4 year veteran who has started the last 31 of his last 32 games is who is keeping Justin Gilbert off the field. Skrine is playing high caliber ball, as is Williams, but at a different position inside against the slot. Gilbert is not built to play inside. Skrine is, but he is also excelling on the outside...

Instead of dwelling on the fact Gilbert is a top ten pick and not in the starting lineup, be happy our team has 3 DBs that are playing so good, a top ten rookie can't get on the field...That's where the focus lies.

    *DRINK*

    Oh Yeah,

Gordon went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for some yards to steal. He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind. He was lookin' to prove he's real. When he came across this young man throwing, his arm was hot. And Gordon jumped in the Dawg Pound and said "Hoyer let me tell you what"
"If you didn't know it, I'm a Cleveland player, too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
Now you have a good record, Hoyer, but give Gordon his due.
You get that ball to me and I'll show 'em what Cleveland can do! "
The QB said my name's Hoyer and it might be a sin, but I'll take your bet
And they're gonna regret 'cause we're the best that's ever been!
Hoyer, risin' up your arm and throw that ball long,
'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia and Gordon deals it hard.
And when you win, you get this division wrapped up in a bow and on the road to the Super Bowl!

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports coach Jay Gruden has received support from upper management following his comments on Robert Griffin III this past week.

It's been hot at Redskins headquarters since RGIII threw his teammates under the bus after last week's home loss to Tampa Bay. Gruden fired back at his quarterback, saying RGIII needs to worry about himself. Coach also said the "clock's ticking" for RGIII and he's "auditioned long enough." Colt McCoy is a good bet to see more action before the end of the season. The higher-ups in D.C. backing the coach is a change from 2013 when RGIII was the club's golden boy who could do no wrong.

best thing H&H did was not pull the trigger on this knucklehead

According to the "knuckleheads" in Cleveland (H&H), they not only tried, but actually offered more than the Redskins for the right to draft RG3. It was the Rams that claimed our final offer came to late, and said they already made a deal with Washington. lol!

The Falcons are a bad defensive football team...Statistically, they are the worst. It's on Brian Hoyer and the offense to "get it done" in Atlanta today....I expect the Browns to run the ball well....I expect to see Josh Gordon in the end zone.....And I think Cleveland WILL get it done in Atlanta today....
