And all I have done is completed the picture you started to draw about my "comments" last spring...

You can't pick 5-6 words out of a 2 day conversation and expect me to not complete the paragraph. I haven't turned anything into something else...

You take one piece of an argument and turn it into a declaration based on evidence from a single comment from a single player in a single game out of 8 in the guys rookie season.

You are right, watch Hoyer's press conferences, he gives credit to "someone" every week. That's media speak. Mack had a good handful of plays against the Browns...he also had games in college where he had a handful of plays and it got him a top 5 draft pick...It was everything else I saw on film that lead me to my comments in the spring...was his handful of plays game changing? Not at all...I would say no more so than our own "disappointing" rookie Justin Gilbert, who had his second nice game in a row as well, but no one wants to talk about that.

I know you don't want to "compare" him to anybody, but that is what the whole conversation developed from in the spring, it is relevant whether you want it admissible or not.

I also know this was all in good fun, to get a "jab" in between friends, but you also knew my nature when you threw that jab...You should have come with a haymaker and prayed that it landed on the jaw!! ;D

    Ken,

I really really hope that you are right. We'll never win anything till we get a little consistency. Never.

I am fine with Coach P. I like him. I think the players respond to him. I am not sure that his D has caught on, or if he has the guys on the roster to play his style. I do however dearly wish to give him a good opportunity to do that. I'd love to see the day that we actually RESIGN a coach. Oh lawdy lawd that will be the day.

    I agree whole heartily Dvl...

And I AM NOT TRYING TO BE PICKY HERE...by any means...

I just wanted to correct something, because the Browns have been resigning (to leave) coaches at an alarming rate...I know you meant to say re-sign (to sign again) them!! Sorry, I mean no contempt in this correction!!

Consistency within this entire organization is indeed the only road to success..I hope with all my soul, this is the regime to prove they should be given time to build this into a NFL power house team that we can once again be proud of!

Anyone else very excited about this weekends game?

This game could be telling in how the rest of the season shapes up...hear me out...

The Buccaneers defense is the closest we will see to what the Bengals do. If we can be really effective against this defense, we could be looking at some confidence when facing the Bengals twice in the coming weeks. On the flip side, it could give the Bengals film as to what to or not to do to stop this offense.

    Anyone else thinking about this?

(edit:) on the flip side, the only 4-3 base defense we faced this season was the Jaguars, who made this offense look foolish...

Cannot say I am not worried

Just an excerpt from an ESPN article:

This may possibly be one reason why there are no contract talks going on with Hoyer and the Browns.

  6. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

There is a slight difference in the situations here though..

Hoyer is coming off his 4th team as a pro in 6 years, a backup 2 year contract, which if all goes well will net him 19 starts in his career going into contract talks...

Flacco was coming off 5 seasons as a starting QB, making the playoffs every season since he was drafted, not to mention multiple playoff WINS and just prior to his new contract being named Super Bowl MVP...

I simply don't see these same contract incentives for Hoyer...BUT, he is also only going to get a high end backup contract extension at this point, so if I were him, I would be doing the same thing he and his agent are doing...I just believe this will force the Browns hand in the end and he will end up walking to another QB needy team. In the end, this regime is tied to Manziel whether you all want to let it creep into your thinking or not. After a year of learning, this team will move on to him in 2015.

    smh...

    oh it landed flush. lol!

all the smoke and mirrors isn't going to change that...

As far as this week's game goes....

Hoyer should have his way this week. Tampa Bay's defense has been an opposing QB's dream come true all year....If he struggles at all, then they need to make a move. Don't wait too long and let it slip away like they did in Jacksonville....

I expect Hoyer to have a big day.....and then they gotta get ready for the quick turnaround game in Cincy. We are going to find out real soon what this team is.....

    Friday Musings:

Am not looking past the Bucs this weekend. They already proved that they can be dangerous if you look past them.

Keys to success: Stopping the run on defense. The Browns are one of the worst at stopping the run still *WALL* If the Browns can force the Bucs more toward a one dimensional offense, then hopefully they will be able to pin their ears back and rattle Glennon, create multiple turnovers.

The O-line needs to play better and work more cohesively. That will go a long way toward establishing the run game on offense.

I agree that Hoyer HAS to play better. The past several weeks he appears to have regressed. Though I am not sure that we'll see a 300+yd multiple TD game out of him, it is possible. Does Miles Austin even play for this team? This guy has been practically a non factor so far this season. He needs to definitely step up his game if this team is going to have success in the second half of the schedule.

According to the Seattle Times, the one-time college quarterback is headed to Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns have acquired WR Phil Bates, according to reports coming out of Seattle. Bates cleared waivers earlier today.

Bates has bounced back and forth from the active roster to the practice squad in Seattle, but has an interesting history. He hails from Ohio University, but originally played quarterback and at Iowa State University, switching to receiver for the Bobcats after a shoulder injury. The Seahawks signed him after he went undrafted in 2012, looking on him largely as a wide receiver, although the 6?11", 220 player got a brief look at fullback.

Bates may be most famous for a fight during training camp this year with quiet, reserved Seahawks CB Richard Sherman.

Here?s a thread on the Watercolor with more discussion on the acquisition.

Happy Cleveland Browns game day loungers!!!

This is a must win Sunday. The season begins Thursday, and being 5-3 going into Cincinnati would be huge! I can't stop thinking about this 5 day stretch...will we look back and see this as a turn around in franchise history? It could take that turn and it is happening NOW.

HERE WE GO BROWNIES, HERE WE GO!!
