Sorry Ken, I just can't....The "let down" in Jacksonville was just overpowering. The Browns effectively "muzzled" the few optimistic fans that they have with that putrid performance last Sunday... Gonna wait and see what happens this week before I start spouting off....
If I WAS going to talk about the Browns game this Sunday, I'd probably talk about the need for Cleveland to establish that running game early. Hoyer feeds off of the good ground game as well as any QB. He needs it to set up the play-action passes like those that were so effective against Pittsburgh...And then I'd probably talk about the need for a good defensive performance against the Raider rookie QB.... but that's only if I was willing to talk Browns football this week....which I'm not.
Well Ken, I think TD summed it up...I was very disappointed in the effort given last Sunday. If I were to talk about the Browns though, it would be that I selfishly am ecstatic that my daughters volleyball is finally over, so I can watch the entire game live!! She is an avid softball player and plays volleyball, just to be active. She also golfs, which is what she says she is doing in high school...so these Sundays taking away my Browns time was annoying, knowing she isn't going to continue playing later in life. As far as the Browns, I agree...Hoyer will never look as bad as he did last week...as long as Shanahan is the coordinator anyway. He put too much emphasis on the pass when the run game broke down and I don't believe he will ever make that mistake again. This team is built on the run and will continue to be so, as long as he is in charge. Establishing that run is paramount to the success, or failure, of this offense. I think that you will see a split on carries between Tate and Crowell rather than a 3 headed monster.
So far I've been lucky Irish. My daughters aren't into sports really, and my son (4th grade) has only played in leagues where they play on Saturdays...I coached his youth flag football team (Giants) this year, and truly appreciated the fact that we didn't have any Sunday games. lol! We weren't too bad either...We managed to win a playoff game last Tuesday over the Ravens (a team that beat us 28-13 in the regular season) and get into the semi-finals... We crashed back to earth this morning though, getting shut down by the Broncos 28-6... It was fun though, the boys really came together after a rough start... i really enjoyed the season....No doubt, it will be quite the dilemma for me if the little league stuff ever interferes with my Browns games...Surely I will do the right thing, but I know won't be happy about it. lol!
Browns activated C Nick McDonald (wrist) off the non-football injury list. TE Gerell Robinson was waived in a corresponding move. With Alex Mack done for the season, McDonald will likely start at center for the Browns on Sunday against the Raiders. McDonald has not played in a regular-season game since 2012.
Speaking of daughters. Mine is getting married next Friday, Yep Halloween. Happy and melancholy. I guess that's par for the course.
Well Brownie mates tomorrow is not only a big game for the Browns but an even bigger game for Brian Hoyer. Playing yet another terrible team, Hoyer has to prove he belongs. Us Browns fans are going to see if Hoyer is a money player. If he can rise to meet the task. He has to know that after last week his string just got a whole hell of a lot shorter. So the pressure is on for him to perform. After all this is the easiest part of the schedule. Against Jacksonville, Oakland and Tampa we should win at least 1 game. So If we lose this week and Hoyer looks like Weeden again we will see Manziel and next year we will be drafting another QB. Go Brownie's!!!!!!
Just want 2 make sure Im reading this right...u stated a horrible team and Hoyer has to show he belongs and meet the task...so if he plays well vs a horrible team as u stated that shuld prove he belongs and achieved his task?
So long, 6-2. Remember when we drooled over the Browns three-game stretch that featured only one team with a win? After losing on the road last week to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars, the Browns return to Cleveland for the first of two consecutive games against the 0-6 Oakland Raiders and the 1-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, 5-3 sounds good now, right? Six games into the season and have we arrived at a must win. It shouldn?t be this way, but that is what happens living in a rapid-react society. One game means so much. The Browns had a bad game in Jacksonville. There is no way around it. Offense, defense and special teams all failed miserably. Guess what? Teams have good games and teams bad games. One good game (a win over the Steelers) doesn?t mean it?s time to talk playoffs nor does a bad game (a loss to the winless Jaguars) mean it?s time to talk Johnny Football. Now, the Browns are quite accustom to bad games, but it was surprising to see one considering the team?s performance in the first five. Yet the Browns return home where they have played well this season, save for the inability to put away the Baltimore Ravens last month. For the sake of sanity, for the sake of being able to use social media these next two weeks, the Browns need to win these two games. I don?t want to see ?Johnny Manziel? show up on any Facebook, Twitter timeline or blog headline. Let?s ride this thing out. That being said, the Browns need to win Sunday. It begins with the offensive and defense line. Both were atrocious last week against the Jaguars. The Browns couldn?t run the ball, which set up a multitude of third and longs, which meant punter Spencer Lanning was quite busy. The Browns ? for better or worse or until Week 11 ? have shown the key to their entire offense is the ability to run the ball. The more drop backs from Brian Hoyer the worse off the Browns? offense will be. Meanwhile on defense, the Browns continue to get gashed on the ground. In six games, opponents have combined for 933 yards and seven touchdowns on 186 carries, or 5.0 yards per carry. We?ve seen some poor run defense since 1999 but so far this year has topped that list. Like the offensive line, the defensive line has some key injuries that are testing depth and creating weaknesses. Overall, Oakland?s rushing attack is averaging four yards per carry, but its top two backs ? Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew ? both average less than four yards per carry. Finally, like Jacksonville, Oakland employs a rookie quarterback in Derek Carr. Last week, Blake Bortles threw three interceptions, but the Browns failed to capitalize. There is no sugar coating this. The Browns play two horrible teams in as many weeks. Coming off a poorly played game, we will find out what this team and coaching staff are made of. Two wins are not only desired but also expected. A loss to Oakland and things could head south quickly for first-year coach Mike Pettine and his team, but a win puts the Browns above .500 with another winnable game Nov. 2. Then again, if the Browns do lose to Oakland, at least we have LeBron?s return to look forward to Oct. 30. Maybe that will quiet down the hyperbole and Manziel fans for another week. Hopefully it doesn?t come to that and we can enjoy both. To steal a phrase from this week?s opponent, ?Just win baby.?
No Stopper, If he plays bad again against another sorry team he should be benched! The Browns could of/ should of won at least 2 of these games against real bad teams! If they lose today and already lost to the Jags he should be benched! Why? it will look like business as usual. If he has the bullocks to bounce back from last week it will show me something about him. This season started with a lot of promise. You can not let it start slipping away now. If he can't lead this team then he is NOT the QB of the future and it's time for Manziel and I would look at either drafting or signing another QB also. Hoyer is NOT a starter! He just started on a really bad team. Do you understand now?
I cant help but say....... We could of had Sammy Watkins. Hell we could of had Watkins and Carr. Mark my words. Hoyer is done! The Raiders dropped 2 picks that I seen and right after the half he over threw a wr by about 5 feet. I don't care who is the QB. I want wins. I know we don't know what Manziel can do. But right now Hoyer isn't doing anything either. Defenses are stacking the box to stop the run and Hoyer can't beat em. That's as plain as day. This team is showing it has no leadership. It's flat. If the HC can't fire up the team then someone on defense/offense has to. With the season starting so good we have to sustain. They just brought in Crowell. What took them so long? The Browns need to put points on the board. Another 3 and out. I'm going to start the chants now Go Browns and JOHNNY,JOHNNY,JOHNNY!
Well I guess Hoyer will live to play 1 more week. Chalk this win up to stopping the Raiders. But a win is a win. But I'm still chanting Johnny, Johnny, Johnny GO BROWNS!!!!
Many thanks to all for the warm wishes. Looking forward to it. My new son in law is from Guatamala, and follows that other kind of football, so while he does watch and ask questions, I haven't been able to bring him into the fold yet. Maybe it's all "Chit, Mother F'rs, and God Damn It's he hears when I am watching the Browns, or maybe it's the Elf. Anyway he's good people, and I am pleased to call him a part of the family. The wedding will be a "wedding" but I think my daughter is going to surprise us with a little "horror make up" after the main event. She is in "Panic mode" nightly over some small detail she isn't quite completely happy with, but I suspect we will all survive and enjoy the day. So thanks again all.
I will take it . the defense showed up today . maybe they are figuring this system out ? I Hope Cameron isn't out for long . what ever they are paying Mack ..it isn't enough what the hell happened to the ground game ? Hoyer wasn't perfect today . not many QB are . the AFC North is tight this year . all teams are above 500
