Looking iffy for the Robbie Dean memorial race tonight . Mother Nature is not being kind . does a anti rain dance .
If all goes well that thread next year will be on Weeds all right, it will be called,"What the hell was I thinking?" I think Turner can make any QB good, look at what he did for Rivers and I think Rivers was average at best when he came in.
He was the 4th pick in the draft.....he must of had some skills and he had great weapons around him....LT was the best RB in the NFL at that time, Gates couldnt b covered and V Jack was upper echelon. Not sure why Norv will make Weeden good/great....he is a run 1st type of coach...Smith and LT and Aikman never put up great #'s w him.
?Cleveland Browns Stadium? is no more Posted by Mike Florio on May 18, 2013, 4:01 PM EDT Getty ImagesTo some, it always will be the Factory of Sadness. To the rest of the world, it no longer will be Cleveland Browns Stadium. According to FOX 8 in Cleveland, the signs at the stadium where the Browns play are being removed, to be replaced with the new, corporate-purchased title: FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns have had the ability to sell the naming rights to the venue since it opened in 1999. Under owner Al Lerner and then his son, Randy, the Browns had not done so. Earlier this year, new owner Jimmy Haslam sold the naming rights to FirstEnergy. Hopefully no discounts or rebates were involved in the transaction
Weeden ?surprised? by Browns? decision to sign Hoyer Posted by Mike Florio on May 18, 2013, 2:55 PM EDT Getty ImagesBrowns quarterback Brandon Weeden recently said he wants to be the guy. And then the Browns went out and signed another guy. Weeden admits that the move to add Brian Hoyer, cut last week by the Cardinals, was unexpected. ?I was surprised, but that?s the nature of the beast,? Weeden said Friday, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. ?It?s part of this business and if you start worrying about it, that?s too much to worry about. That?s my mentality going forward.? Weeden said he hasn?t been told what the Browns plan for Hoyer. ?I have no idea,? Weeden said. ?I?m worried about me.? Per Cabot, Hoyer arrives as No. 3 on the depth chart, behind Weeden and Jason Campbell. Hoyer then will have the opportunity to climb the ladder. Weeden thinks he?ll hold off all comers. ?You can?t play this position timid or [not] confident,? Weeden said. ?You?ve got to be confident all the time. Once I got my head in this playbook and realized how good this system is and how good it fits the guys we have in place, it kind of made me excited and lit a fire under everybody to really want to take that next step including myself.? Campbell, the first quarterback acquired by the new regime in Cleveland, wasn?t surprised by the new arrival. ?You usually go into training camp with four quarterbacks,? Campbell said. ?You knew somewhere along that it would probably happen.? The fact that it happened with Hoyer should give both Weeden and Campbell concern. During his tenure with NFL Network, Browns G.M. Mike Lombardi heaped praise on Hoyer. ?I?ve said this many times: If I would have taken the GM job of the 49ers, I would have gone after Brian Hoyer, because I think he has all the traits and characteristics,? Lombardi said in December 2011, via Cabot. ?If I were the Cleveland Browns, I?d rather have Brian Hoyer behind center than Colt McCoy.? Hoyer now has a dramatically better chance of being under center for the Browns than McCoy. Whether Hoyer gets there ahead of Weeden and Campbell is to be determined. If it happens, it would be an amazing development, given that Hoyer was out of the league for most of the 2012 season.
League and team sources tell SI's Don Banks that the FBI's investigation into Browns owner Jimmy Haslam's truck-stop company Pilot Flying J is unlikely to affect his ownership "for now." Per Banks, there's "there's no real sense the sky is falling in Cleveland," or that Haslam's legal troubles will "seriously imperil" his ownership. That's true, but it's also true the FBI has yet to press charges. It's been barely one month since their surprise raid of Haslam's company. What we know for sure is that the investigation shouldn't affect the Browns this season. All bets are off beyond that
Horton talks OTAs, defensive install Posted 5 hours ago By Matt Florjancic, Staff Writer aaBrowns defensive coordinator Ray Horton has enjoyed installing the team?s new 3-4 defense and working with the players. Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton enjoys his work, especially when it comes to installing the team?s new 3-4 defensive front and working with the players acquired in the offseason. Of the Browns? free-agent signings, the first three were defensive players, linebackers Paul Kruger and Quentin Groves, in addition to defensive lineman Desmond Bryant. Then, through the 2013 NFL Draft, the Browns spent four of their five selections on defense. ?I bought a Powerball ticket last night, I didn?t check it yet,? Horton joked after the Browns? final organized team activity of the week. ?I am very pleased with how Mr. (Joe) Banner, Mr. (Jimmy) Haslam and how coach (Rob) Chud (Chudzinski) have stockpiled the defense. We have got a lot of talent and we are going to try to figure out who fits where best for the Cleveland Browns to play very good defense. ?It may not be hard, but it?s fun. It?s exciting. The guys are working very, very hard and that?s the most important thing -- that they are applying what they are learning. They are doing a great job. They are being diligent in the workouts, not only on the field but also in the classroom. ?It?s a totally different defense so there is a lot of adjustments -- terminology, drops, the way I call games, the way I ask them to learn the defense. Right now, I am just asking them to trust me and trust the defense and they are doing that. We are pleased with where we are at day three of OTAs.? With the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, the Browns selected former Louisiana State 4-3 defensive end Barkevious Mingo, and moved the 6-foot-4, 237-pounder to outside linebacker in the 3-4. ?(He) was an explosive player,? Horton said. ?He is a young man that played with his hand in the ground at LSU and now, we are asking him to stand up and do different things. He?s got a learning curve and we don?t want to rush him. We don?t want to say this is what we expect day one or day two. We want it to be a growing process. This is not a simple defense. It?s a complicated defense. He?s got a learning curve and we want to make sure that he learns it. ?I want him to be a dominating player. Weight? Some guys are too big. Some guys are too small. Some guys aren?t fast enough. Some guys aren?t slow enough, but they learn how to play. We want athletic players. He is an athletic football player and that?s what we want him to be.? In addition to Mingo, the Browns have switched third-year pro Jabaal Sheard from defensive end to outside linebacker. It?s a transition that Horton said Sheard has ?been doing great? through seven weeks of the offseason program.? Moving players around and finding the best 11 to play on the field when the regular season begins against the Miami Dolphins at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 8 has been the main focus for Horton, and his defensive staff. ?You can name a lot of guys, but you will probably hear the same thing -- we have guys that are competing, playing hard and are trying to learn a new system,? Horton said. ?What we want to do is be a defense that the Cleveland Browns fans are excited about. ?Everywhere I go I hear about the Dawg Pound. I meet people and they are in the Dawg Pound third row or this or that and they are excited. We are excited to put a good product on the field that the Cleveland fans will love and be excited about.?
Showstopper Ryan Leaf, where was he drafted? Just because Rivers had LT, Gates and good receivers just proves my point, he is average. Turner lost his job in San Diego because Rivers couldn't go to the next level. I think this was great hire for the Browns and I would be very suprised if Weeds did not show great improvement this next season, if I am wrong, I am the first to admit it.
Browns QB Thaddeus Lewis is not expected to make the 53-man roster. Perhaps the Pat Shurmur favorite will resurface with Shurmur in Philly, where they are collecting QBs. The Browns don't believe Lewis' arm is strong enough for Rob Chudzinski's vertical passing attack, even to function as a backup. Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, and Brian Hoyer are ahead of him on the depth chart. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer
Wait a second...you mean you should actually try and build your scheme around a strength? Does he realize he is in Cleveland now? We don't do things like that. We have qb's with rocket arms dinking and dunking; qb's with noodle arms going down field; out matched nickel backs starting, return specialists lining up at wr (zing!)....
things are a changing my friend ..for the better ! if Haslam can somehow wiggle out of his legal troubles we will be onto something special . something we haven't seen since before 95 . its always something with the Browns . coaching & players will not be the problem this season . Leaf was a #1 pick .one that was a nut job headcase & still is .
JYD for a guy who claims to not know much about FBB you sure are doing well .in first place . i am very happy with how the league has turned out . very competitive players . lots of season left . Bluez does love FBB *THUMBSUP*
Im optimistic Blues. To me, every year is "OUR year". I really like the coaches we have in place and as long as everything with the owner clears up, he will be good as well. I was working out of town on draft day and was really close to joining a Browns Backers group that was about 25 minutes from my hotel, just so I could go and be with fans. The only thing that stopped me was by the time i could have gotten to my hotel, cleaned up and gotten to the location, we would have already picked so i did not. I am considering joining one of the few groups that are in the east/central Texas region. *DRINK* This ones on me!
Norv Turner isn?t sure any quarterback would have won in Cleveland last year Posted by Josh Alper on May 20, 2013, 9:27 AM EDT APThe arrival of Brian Hoyer in Cleveland has sparked another round of discussion around Brandon Weeden and his future as the Browns quarterback. The hiring of General Manager Mike Lombardi, the signing of Jason Campbell and Weeden?s own performance last season previously incited such conversations and it?s a safe bet that there will be more of the same in the coming days and weeks. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner thinks that the people having those conversations need to keep a little perspective about where Weeden is in his career. Turner spoke to Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com about Weeden and pointed out some areas where Weeden needs to improve ? footwork, playing faster ? while also pointing out that the quarterback has ?the physical skills to do what we want to do.? He also said that he thought it was wrong to make too sweeping a judgment of Weeden based on the 2012 season because it wasn?t a situation destined for success. ?I think it?s just being realistic about the position. What?s thrown this out of whack a little bit is there have been some players at the position the last couple years that have had immediate impact,? Turner said. ?Sometimes that has more to do with the situation they go into as the player himself. I don?t know that there?s a lot of guys in a certain sense last year would have great success offensively at the quarterback position for a lot of reasons.? It?s amazing how quickly the idea of giving a quarterback time to grow into the job has become as anachronistic as single-bar facemasks, but that?s the reality of a league where rookie quarterbacks seem to lead their teams to the playoffs every year. Weeden?s a slightly different case because of his age and he certainly needs to show improvement to be the guy in Cleveland, but it still seems premature to write him off before his second training camp has even started.
