I just read the Browns are going to agree to a one year deal with Brandon Jackson, how many Effing RB's does this team need? T.Rich, Hardesty, Ongobongo, D Lewis, B Jackson, and I'm sure I'm missing some!
creating competition for the back up to T Rich is a good thing . dont count out undrafted free agent Robbie Rouse all 5'6" of him . very shifty with good hands . a perfect COP back . i have no faith in Hardesty . she will either get hurt . miss blocks or drop a few passes not mention fumble her way out of town .
=================(_) Tis Friday Browns town . weather looks good for the Weekend . time to sling some Ohio mud tonight then its back to my asphalt roots for Sat night to honor the Big Bird Robbie Dean who lost his battle with cancer . a 94 lap late model feature at Shady Bowl speedway . Robbie drove the # 94 T Bird hence the 94 lap A Main . RIP Robbie .
Bluez dont u think its over kill....I mean if ur on the 3rd string QB....the season is already gone. They gave both QBs 2 yr deals and u said Lombardi thinks highly of Hoyer.....mayb their setting themselves up for a trade of Weeden for a team that may lose their QB for any time in preseason....ur really gonna pay Hoyer to b 3rd string...something must b going on over there in that FO.
The only way I'd see that as a possible scenario is if the were splitting the reps equally between Campbell and Weeds... I really think they're giving Weeds a year to "Put up or shut up"... I don't think Hoyer is "the savior" but he's better than Lewis!
JYD, if their word is true and its an open competition...u would have to think Campbell would get equal reps. Players are not dumb and if they see its Weeden 5 reps to 2-3 for Campbell....its Weeden's job w/out them saying it.
Stopper... they have to give Weeden enough rope to hang himself. You see it plain as day around here and in all corners of Browns-land. There is a misguided belief out there -- of either unflinching optimism or blind ignorance to the circumstances -- that Brandon Weeden can and will become a franchise QB. The new regime has to show that Weeden cannot handle the job before just handing the reigns over to Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer. Otherwise, you'll have a fraction of the fanbase screaming that he didn't get a fair shot. Regardless of who's taking the snaps this season, we'll be picking our future QB in R1 or R2 of the 2014 Draft, so all of these guys are basically place-holders for now.
JYD... question, no wrong answer: How do you determine the success of, as you put it, "put up or shut up"? The 2012 NFL average for QBs was: 61.1% completion 3,701 yards 24 TDs (4.3% TD ratio) 14 INTs (2.6% INT ratio) QB rating of 84.7 Weeden was: 57.4% completion -- 27th 3,385 yards -- 19th 14 TDs (2.7% TD ratio) -- 29th 17 INTs (3.3% INT ratio) -- 28th QB rating of 72.6 -- 29th You're asking astronomical growth just to get to "average". Does average cut it... or does he need to be better than that?
Devil's advocate.....Browns go 8-8 and Weeden puts up same stats as yr before.....I think theres some much more into just win baby. Beating SD last yr 6-3 does not show anything to lead anyone to believe hes ur QB, but they won.
If they go 8-8 (which I believe they have a chance at) then in my eyes, yes, Weeds gets another season!
5 biggest takeaways from OTAs Posted by Vic Carucci on May 16, 2013 ? 11:09 pm By Vic Carucci, Senior Editor Here are my five biggest takeaways from the Browns? first week of organized team activity practices: >Davone Bess is a tone-setter. The wide receiver the Browns acquired in a trade with the Dolphins during last month?s draft is making a huge impact with his ability to consistently get open from the slot and to catch everything thrown his way. But Bess? off-the-field contributions are equally impressive. He has established an immediate veteran leadership role at a position that sorely needed it. His work ethic and professionalism are great examples for Josh Gordon, Greg Little, and Travis Benjamin to follow. Bess also is imparting his considerable football knowledge on quarterback Brandon Weeden, who has frequently talked Xs-and-Os with the wide receiver since his arrival in Cleveland. And it seems the younger receivers are feeling a sense of urgency to step up their respective games because of the way Bess performs. >Josh Gordon looks like a beast. He is much bigger and stronger than he was as a rookie last year, especially in his arms. He also seems more explosive athletically. While tightly covered on one pass route near the sideline Wednesday, he managed to leap high in the air, grab the ball with his outstretched arms, and come down in bounds. He also made a one-handed grab of a low throw by extending his arm for what seemed like several feet. A couple of scouts looked at each other and said, ?Did you see that?? >Barkevious Mingo appears to be every bit with exceptional athlete that the Browns and many other NFL teams thought he was before the draft. The outside linebacker the Browns selected with the sixth overall pick of the draft moves with tremendous speed and fluidity while rushing the quarterback and dropping into coverage. Although there is plenty for him to learn, Mingo seems to do things without He showed off his man-to-man coverage skills in impression fashion Thursday. >Fullback Owen Marecic has added considerable upper-body strength. He is one of many examples of players clearly benefitting from the intensive work they?ve done during the offseason with new Browns strength-and-conditioning coach Brad Roll. >It?s great to see offensive guard Jason Pinkston back on the field after his harrowing ordeal when he developed a blood clot in his lung that shortened his 2012 season. Since being medically cleared to participate in workouts last month, Pinkston has been easing his way back into action. And he looks as if he is on a strong path back to competing to win back his starting job from John Greco, who has held the No. 1 spot at left guard since Pinkston?s illness. Pinkston told a moving story about learning he was medically cleared on the same day that he became a father for the first time. His baby girl, Martha Jane, is named after his late mother. >>Carucci?s Call is presented by Revol Wireless. Bluez - Just wanted to let you know I have been stopping in on an almost daily basis to read the information you post. Most of it reinforces my belief that the Browns will be better this season regardless of record and that the pieces are in place moving forward for them to be a division contender in a short period of time. Are fans in the Cleveland area feeling some excitement for the future or has the history of the franchise since its return kept them from showing optimism?
I think Stopper nailed it, but it bears repeating: If Weeden produces another almost-league-worst year (implying zero growth) but the *team* manages 8-8, he stays? Seriously?! Wouldn't that definitively prove he's holding this franchise back? I'm sorry, but incremental growth will not turn this team into a contender.
I dont think its all bout Ws and Ls.....like the example I used above they win a game 6-3 its not because of Weeden, but they could also lose a game 35-31 and he throws for 320 yds and 3 TDs w no Ints. I just feel they are making moves this off season involving the QB position because they dont trust/like whatever word u want to use bout Weeden. If they felt 100% committed to him what's the need for a QB like Hoyer? I could see a scenario where Campbell is the guy w Hoyer being the backup.
I agree with this. If that were to happen he would most definitely be holding this team back. Altho I don't see them going 8-8 if Weeden sucks.
Thats all I keep hearing is how much young talent this team supposedly has.....T-Rich, Gordon, Taylor, Weeden, Haden, Mack, Little, Sheard, Ward, Rubin, Schwartz, Winn, etc and 8-8 is not very likely......I guess people are over-estimating their talent level. 8-8 is avg and still puts them bout 2 games out of the post season.
Guys, PLEASE take the weeden sucks conversation to its own thread. PLEASE!!!! If it will help, I will even jump on the bandwagon next to you SAS, just take it to its own thread Spoiler PLEASE!!!!!!
I am excited about the future . the needle is pointing UP . we do have some real talent on this team .some will disagree with that but those are the ones who would complain if the Browns won 12 games . they just complain about everything . i only bash them when they deserve it . i am looking at a 500 record this season with a bright future . the only cloud is Haslams legal trouble . that may turn out to be a huge problem down the road . lets cross that bridge when we get there . Tim i add a link to any & all articles i find . so no harm no foul ?.it creates conversation and gives us die hard loyal Browns fans something to chat about . i don't live in the Cleveland area but have talked with quite a few who do . most are feeling pretty good about where we are heading . most are leery of Lombardi . his track record speaks for itself . i am willing to give him a shot here .he isn't calling all the shots which is a good thing . the Browns if they can stay healthy will surprise a few teams this year . they were close last year with all the rookies & bad coaching . those rookies now have a year under there belt & the coaching staff is very very good . WOOF WOOF WOOF !!!!
DVL ..Great idea .lets keep the drama out of the DPL as much as possible . its not why i started the thread on cBS 4 years ago . Marines lead the way !
