  1. Bad point I guess since he had 80 catches last yr and so far this yr he has 9 after 5 games

Go back and read the post idiot.....I was talking about a certain Hoyer pass that was impressive, and I compared it to a typical pass from one of the many garbage QB's we have seen around here...get a clue. I only chose Weeden because he was the latest huge disappointment...

I could have said Frye or Peterson or Dilfer or Garcia or Anderson or Quinn or whoever the hell.....the fact you chose then to start the Weeden love is hilarious.

No, your point was bullshit. There is a different OC in town, in case you missed that part.

That's not your original comment -

This was bullshit and I called you on it.

Not a big deal other than you trying to find a way to change it.

Rome wasn't built in a day my friend. I fully understand we are ever so close to 5-0 and yet we are equally close to 1-4. I agree that there is plenty of room for improvement across the board. Even this Hoyerist can see that. I just want to be able to enjoy the ride as this team matures right before our eyes.

Every one has an opinion and I am not opposed to reading dissenting opinions as long as they are presented with fore thought and truth. Proper English also goes a long way toward comprehension on the other end as well. *WRITE*

Crex, this is a really good post actually. I'd like to take a moment to respond as I believe -- per usual -- that some of the regular suspects are reading what they want to read and not reading what's actually written.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fact, please go back and re-read some of my posts if you don't think I agree. I think this team is moving in a terrific direction. That said, I'm not going from a doom-and-gloom outlook to a playoff potential outlook because of two or three games. I still have concerns (and I've voiced them) and I'd like to see the Browns continue to improve.

They are in a great position heading into three games straight against some truly awful teams. IF they continue to improve and work on the things I've mentioned, I do see them sitting at 6-2 in a couple weeks and becoming part of the playoff discussion. But I'm not counting my chickens before they hatched and I'd like to see us handle our business one week at a time.

[Again, the real irony is after we beat a bad Tennessee team and a bad Pittsburgh team, the response here is "let's get our playoff tickets". I say, "let's wait and see and take it slow" and get skewered by a couple of the usual chuckleheads and then Coach Pettine and the Browns players say the exact same thing I just did.]

And everyone in our division -- except the Pittsburgh scumbags -- has a winning record. We're currently third place and need to prove we can beat our own rivals in the division before we harbor any thoughts about the playoffs. Again, if they take care of business, I'll be a believer.

We went through this in 2007 -- unheralded quarterback comes in takes the NFL by storm, posting a 10-6 record as a starter (and, producing much, much better stats). Riding the momentum of good QB play and the softest schedule in the NFL (actually, in the past five years to that point), the Browns look poised to make a playoff push. What happens? Once teams have enough game film on Anderson and figure him out, the turnovers start mounting and we lose some very winnable games. After missing the playoffs, the F/O caves and makes a horrible personnel decision that set the franchise back several years.

What's the old saying? Fool me once (although I called it way early), shame on you [the Browns organization]. Fool me twice? Shame on me.

We absolutely should... we have Browns players' jerseys in the HOF now for that game. It was awesome. But just don't let a terrific comeback against an atrocious opponent trick everyone into believe that (1) it can happen every time and (2) that the Browns beat a team the caliber of Denver, Seattle or San Diego.

Again... absolutely be excited. I am. I never expected this out of Hoyer and I'm glad to see us doing well.

But for the love of all that is holy, please do not think he's a Top 5 QB or a franchise saver. Let's see how his weak arm and questionable accuracy do in December when it's cold and windy on the Lake.

[And if the latest report is true -- that he'll only resign if the Browns cut Manziel -- let's acknowledge how mentally weak he really is.]

Not at all. When I say he's managing games and doing it very well -- that's a compliment. Just please don't say that's "Hoyer Hate" because I was a fan of drafting Johnny Manziel because it's not. It's first-hand observation supported by empirical evidence. We're winning games because he's limiting mistakes and the OC is limiting his number of throws. Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady aren't limited by their OCs when it comes to the number of throws they make. Hoyer is a terrific game manager. He's not -- at the moment -- a Pro Bowl or franchise QB.

I am happy and excited as well. I simply have reservations before going "all in" on the season with a "playoffs or death" attitude after five games against sub-par competition.

I have to assume this is directed at myself and showstopper and while I cannot speak for him, please don't misconstrue my constructive criticism and realistic outlook as being negative. Sorry if I'm not quick enough to believe we're destined for a playoff run just yet but I am still having a hard time buying all the way in. Again... I just want to see more.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

Spoken like a true chucklehead. Your childish insult notwithstanding, my previous post to Crex I think explained my position very well.

The only people who think this has anything to do with a Hoyer/Manziel debate are the people who aren't thinking straight because the blood has rushed to their Hoyerections?.

This came up -- I think -- Monday maybe? Hoyer addressed the report pretty casually (saying he only wanted to sign somewhere that he would be playing, when pushed [link: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...t-news-and-rumors-on-negotiations-with-browns) and then his agent also addressed the situation.

Sorry... I don't have the link to the agent comments.

EDIT: Jason Cole got this report from somewhere and when Hoyer was questioned about it, he didn't specifically deny the allegation, only that he said he wasn't sure where the reporter got their information. He then made the comment about "only signing somewhere he's playing" and then deferred to his agent.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but even if the broad based assumptions of Jason Cole were to be correct how exactly does that translate to Brian Hoyer being mentally weak?

Sounds like more talking-heads trying to get a few clicks on their web site to me.

Found this, which seems a little "more reasonable":

Makes a lot more sense for the Browns to see what they have in Hoyer after a good portion or after the season, than to cut Manziel because Hoyer feels his job is threatened, if that is even true. Also makes more sense for Hoyer to play out the season and hopefully continue to post good numbers and earn wins all in the name of a bigger payday. I would expect that neither Hoyer or the Browns are willing to come to terms this early in the season. Are they possibly beginning discussions to show good faith?......sure. And they may both wait until after the season is done. Can't see a tag being used as that would, in my opinion, pay Hoyer a sum larger than he deserves for such a small body of work, especially when they have Manziel waiting in the wings on a rookie contract.

    Tim-

    Here's a commentary article on Cole's rumors I found:

    http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/10/brian_hoyer_on_if_hell_sign_a.html

Also, it had the tag number for a QB:

More than sure Hoyer has not proved himself as competent as the other QB's listed.....yet. $18 million seems a bit pricy for what could possibly turn out to be another Derek Anderson situation for the Browns. Oh well, it's not my money and I'm not the GM, head coach or OC.

  13. That was an impressive pass lol....if it was so impressive he wuldnt have under thrown it so bad that an over the hill DE(Keisel) wuld run him down and I need 2 get a clue

    Browns vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Sunday, 1 p.m., in EverBank Field

    Record: 0-6.

Last game: Lost to Tennessee Titans, 16-14, Oct. 12, in LP Field.

Coach: Gus Bradley, 4-18, 2nd year.

    Series record: Jaguars lead, 10-5.

Last meeting: Jaguars won, 32-28, Dec. 1, in FirstEnergy Stadium.

League rankings: Offense is 32nd overall (32nd rushing, 23rd passing), defense is 30th (19th rushing, 30th passing) and turnover differential is minus-8.

Offensive overview: Their plan of keeping rookie quarterback Blake Bortles sitting and learning behind veteran journeyman Chad Henne lasted 2 ? games. Bortles was inserted in the third game and has started the last three. In the 3 ? games played by Bortles, the team has scored 17, 14, 9 and 14 points. Bortles has seven interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. It?s not his fault. Coordinator Jed Fisch would like to use a strong running game to set up play-action passing. All elements of that plan are missing. The run game is abysmal, mostly because projected feature back Toby Gerhart has been slowed by a sprained foot in Game 1. Because of injuries, the projected top three receivers ? Cecil Shorts, and rookies Allan Robinson and Marqise Lee ? played together for the first time only last week. Solid tight end Marcedes Lewis still is on short-term injured reserve. And the offensive line, frankly, stinks. As a result, Bortles has been relegated to dink-and-dunk passes (he?s completing 67.8 percent) and running with the ball (106 yards on 16 keepers). The team is encouraged by Bortles, but he has no playmaker to help him have a breakout performance.

Defensive overview: The plan here was to re-create the Seahawks defense that Bradley helped to develop as coordinator before he left Seattle. That, too, has gone awry. The unit has a couple veteran players of note ? tackle Sen?Derrick Marks and linebacker Paul Posluszny ? but nobody to make consistent plays to impact a game. The interior of the defense has been steady and thus the unit has been decent against the run. But the system requires the front four to apply the pass rush, and when that doesn?t happen, the secondary can?t hold up. Look what opposing quarterbacks have compiled against them: 68.7 percent passing, 12 touchdowns, one interception and a composite passer rating of 109.7. They?re 31st in scoring defense, allowing 30.8 points per game.

Special teams overview: Kicker Josh Scobee is 6 of 9 on field goals with a long of 49 yards, and has had two field goals blocked. He is 21st with 14 touchbacks on kickoffs. Punter Bryan Anger is 8th in gross average (47.3 yards) and 12th in net (40.9). The coverage unit was hit for a 50-yard kick return by Tennessee?s Leon Washington last week. Punt returner Ace Sanders has not gotten on track since returning from a league suspension two weeks ago. Kick returner Jordan Todman is 5th in average (26.6 yards).

    Players to watch:

    1. Quarterback Blake Bortles: The No. 3 overall draft pick is handling a bad situation as well as he could. He is completing a bunch of short passes and running out of trouble, but seven interceptions, including two for touchdowns, have hurt the cause.

    2. Receiver Cecil Shorts: The Cleveland native, hero of Jacksonville?s 32-28 win in Cleveland last year, has missed three games with hamstring injuries. He has 17 receptions and one touchdown.

    3. Receiver Allen Hurns: An undrafted (Miami, FL) success story, he had a sensational NFL debut with two TDs on his first two catches. He leads the team with three touchdowns and a 16.6 receiving average.

Injury report: TE Marcedes Lewis (high ankle) is on short-term injured reserve. RB Toby Gerhart (foot) missed the last game and will be limited this week.

Small world: Defensive coordinator Bob Babich is the father of Browns assistant secondary coach Bobby Babich ? quality control coach Dan Shamash was a Browns offensive assistant coach in 2009 and ?10 ? strength and conditioning coordinator Tom Myslinski was on the Browns? staff in 2004 and 2007-09 ? receiver Cecil Shorts is a Cleveland native and attended Mount Union College.

  17. Childish Insult/joke... take it how you like I suppose! (I don't see how Chucklehead isn't a "childish insult", but, to each their own) The only reason I believe this has "anything to do with the Hoyer/Manziel debate" is because certain people on these boards take to mentioning Hoyer and how he's had basically nothing to do with any of their success! In fact, anytime anyone around here compliments the guy, we hear.... "It was really the defense/o-line/running game".... if one were to read through all these posts, they would see the "Manziel Agenda" behind quite a few posts.

Also, it's not the I'm "in love with Hoyer".... I'm just not a huge fan of Manziel.... didn't want him when we drafted him, and he hasn't shown me anything on or off the field to change my mind! That's not "Manziel Hatred" as I'm sure it will be misconstrued... You wanna say Hoyer is nothing more than a "career back-up" well, the kid couldn't beat the "career back-up" and now that career back-up has a 3-2 record and 2 GW 4th QTR Drives this season.... not too shabby!

Also, for you to mention in your above post of "limiting his pass attempts" by the OC, I call Bull(S!), so far this season Hoyer has PA's of 31,40,25,37,17.... up until last game (17 PA) he was at 33.25 PA's per game.... and to strictly look at it with the thought of "Hoyer only threw 17 times against Pitt, so they're limiting his Att." is ridiculous! Perhaps they only threw the ball 17 times because that's what the game dictated, Pitt couldn't stop the big play, Browns scored quickly, ran the ball more when they got in a comfortable lead!
