bluez says he hates hot weather, Duff says open up the windows, cools down the house, junkyard says his AC has been on since Feb and the Goat in Arizona says it is so hot right now the frigging ants go and hide during the day, 110 degrees yesterday, Aggggggg! Only like summer if I'm in the AC or in the water.
Yeah, I really wanted to see Cribbs latch on to a winning team. He played hard, I wish we had 53 guys with his heart.
The Freeh Group has been hired as part of a class-action lawsuit against Browns owner Jimmy Haslam's truck-stop company Pilot Flying J. The Freeh Group is headed by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, and led the Penn State-sanctioned investigation into the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The civil lawsuits are mounting against Haslam's company ? which is accused of defrauding hundreds of customers ? but he's yet to be charged in the FBI's investigation. It's a matter of when, not if, that will happen.
But just think about it, Goat. You live with no humidity. And the desert......why that's just beach front property. No water, but beach front property nonetheless.
Brandon Weeden opened OTAs as the clear No. 1 quarterback, as expected. The new Browns regime inherited Weeden, but they're still going to give him a shot to run with the job. He has the skill set to succeed in Rob Chudzinski's vertical offense, a scheme that once sent Derek Anderson to the Pro Bowl. For now, Jason Campbell is merely quality competition.
speaking of ants did anyone else take a magnifying glass and burn them when you was a kid ? or am i the only sadistic ant killer in here ..
The Morning Kickoff ? The Quarterback Chronicles: Browns O(rganized) T(eam) A(ctivitie)s began this week, which means it?s time to update the quarterback situation. GM Mike Lombardi kicked off things Monday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club in Canton. Asked to comment on Brandon Weeden, Lombardi continued to be conspicuously noncommittal. ?Everything?s an evaluation,? Lombardi said. ?We just have to keep going. Quarterback?s very important. I think Brandon?s a young player. It?s only his second year in the league. He?s got a great opportunity to demonstrate his talent. (Offensive coordinator) Norv (Turner) has been around some really good quarterbacks. Norv and Chud (head coach Rob Chudzinski) have been able to modify their system to utilize the talent level of the player.? What the heck does that mean? Here is my interpretation: ?I wanted Ryan Mallett, but Bill (Belichick) wants to keep him for another year. Norv and Chud say they can win with Weeden. Joe (Banner) said we?re going with Weeden, so that?s what we?re going to do.? Meanwhile, former Arizona quarterback Brian Hoyer, for whom Lombardi has had a crush, cleared league waivers, making him an unrestricted free agent. Hoyer is the native Clevelander who backed up Tom Brady in New England for three years. When Belichick decided to elevate Mallett to the top backup spot, Lombardi talked up Hoyer on NFL Network and his other media platforms to try to garner trade interest. Hoyer eventually was released. He spent two weeks in 2012 with the Steelers and finished the season with the Cardinals. When Bruce Arians took over as Cardinals coach, he blocked the free agent-to-be Hoyer from leaving by giving him the second-round tender. Now with all the jobs filled, Hoyer was waived. Would the Browns sign Hoyer and throw him into the mix with Weeden, Jason Campbell and Thad Lewis? Stay tuned. Weeden full steam ahead: OTAs began with Weeden the No. 1 quarterback, which was no surprise. Free agent-signee Jason Campbell is No. 2 and Pat Shurmur holdover Thad Lewis is No. 3. The Chudzinski-Turner offense ? a vertical passing game played off a power running game ? would seem to be an ideal change for a team that invested first-round draft picks last year in Weeden and Trent Richardson. On Cleveland Browns Daily on Tuesday, Weeden said to host Vic Carucci, ?I looked at (receiver) Greg Little walking in and said, ?What do you think?? And he?s like, ?This is fun.? That?s what we want. We want to go out and have fun. Usually as a receiver and a quarterback, that?s dropping back and slinging it around a little bit. That?s what we?re gonna do. We?re gonna throw the football down the field. We?ve got guys that can go get it. It?s fun to come to work every day.? Weeden should be the primary beneficiary of the Chudzinski-Turner offense. I mean, it produced a Pro Bowl-alternate season out of Derek Anderson in 2007. Weeden also should benefit more than anyone from the addition of ex-Dolphins receiver Davone Bess, a six-year NFL veteran. ?He?s a stud,? Weeden said. ?He?s one of those guys that runs extremely good routes. Very savvy, understands defenses, where to find the holes. He?s one of those guys, you kind of rely on. You know he?s going to be in the right spot. He wants to talk Xs and Os, what he can do to help me. That?s his veteran leadership.? Going forward: Weeden is on a one-year trial. He has to win everyone over in his second NFL season or he will become the 18th Browns quarterback to lose his job since 1999. Many believe that the reason the Browns traded out of the fourth and fifth rounds of the 2013 draft was to stock up on extra picks in 2014 to make a run, if necessary, at the top quarterback in next year?s draft. There?s always the chance the Browns would use those extra picks as collateral to trade for Mallett. There?s also the chance that Weeden could flourish under Chudzinski and Turner and put to rest, for another year, the Cleveland quarterback carousel. the Browns have yet to sign any draft picks ? it shouldn't be a problem with the new CBA in place . or are they trying to save more $$$$ for Haslams defense team .

By Kevin Goheen FoxSportsOhio.com Posted May 16, 2013 Browns owner Jimmy Haslam spoke with transportation executives Thursday as he continues to fight FBI allegations of fraud by his family's Pilot Flying J business. 1 Comment INDIANAPOLIS ? Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is headed back to Cleveland today after addressing hundreds of transportation company executives Thursday morning in the wake of the FBI?s investigation into alleged fraud committed by his family business, Pilot Flying J. Speaking at the Scopelitis Transportation Seminar at the Hilton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites, Haslam addressed the allegations in front of packed conference room. He took questions that had previously been sent to moderators from seminar attendees. Bill Graves, former Kansas governor and current president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations, read the questions. Following his address, Haslam briefly met with reporters and reiterated his comments from last week?s appearance in Westlake at the Northeast Ohio chapter National Football Foundation?s annual scholar-athlete dinner. ?I think I said this last week but we apologize for the cloud that this puts, at least temporarily, on the Browns but I remain just as much if not more excited about the Browns and the long-term opportunity here,? said Haslam. ?What everybody needs to understand is that this is a company, Pilot Flying J, that has been in business for 54 years and we plan on being in business for another 54 years. This is a blip. It may be a substantial blip but it in no way jeopardizes our ownership of the Browns, number one, or our commitment to the Browns.? Haslam said he was heading to Cleveland to spend the day working ?On everything from what our new uniforms are going to look like to how corporate sales are going.? He plans on attending practice today and having dinner with members of the sales team tonight. ?We are just as committed and just as excited about the Browns as we ever have been,? said Haslam. ?This (investigation) has been a little bit of a distraction, obviously, the past few weeks but things are starting to settle down. I?m looking forward to spending time in Cleveland.? Haslam said he has had continual communication with the NFL regarding the ongoing FBI investigation but did not expand on what that all entails. ?Just continual communication,? said Haslam. ?We have great communication.? Haslam accepted the invitation from the law firm of Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary to speak at its annual client seminar. The firm represents 5,000 clients in the transportation and logistics industries across the country. While five class action law suits have been filed against Pilot Flying J, Scopetitis has advised its clients to not join, said Greg Feary, president and managing partner of Scopelitis. The law firm is conducting its own investigation into the allegations. ?At this point we don?t see a reason to interject ourselves into the middle of it and create lawsuits, create legal proceedings and create costs,? said Feary. Feary said he wasn?t surprised Haslam accepted the invitation. ?We understood that he was reaching out to so many different trucking companies and clients already,? said Feary. ?He wasn?t hiding behind his lawyers, so when we contacted him and he said, ?yeah, I want to come,? that didn?t surprise me. I think there are a fair number of people who would be fearful of getting in a circumstance like this.? Haslam again denied any first-hand knowledge of the alleged fraud, a stance he has maintained since the FBI raided the Pilot Flying J headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., on April 15. An FBI affidavit claims Haslam was aware of the fraud being committed by his sales people, who are accused of short-changing some trucking companies of money through the Pilot Flying J rebate program. ?Absolutely not,? said Haslam. ?I take responsibility for what happens at PFJ as the guy at the top of the shop but I was absolutely not aware of any of this and I think it?s important to state that and state that on record in front of our customers.? *** Kevin Goheen appears courtesy of FoxSportsOhio.com.
I still burn the little cridders but its so hot now, I would have to crawl into the hole. Duff, the thing about the desert and I have this discussion with a friend from Pittsburgh, when it is 110 here and 3 percent wetness, it is intense but manageable but when you in Ohio get to 95 with 60%, that is miserable. Spent some time on the gulf in Texas in 1971 and during the summer, you and your shower towel never dried out in 3 months, now that is heat.
Add another name to the Cleveland Browns? quarterback depth chart. Brian Hoyer, who was released by the Cardinals this week, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Browns, according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio. Hoyer got the first start of his NFL career in a Week 17 loss to the 49ers last season and played fairly well, at least by the standards of the 2012 Cardinals offense. He has also played for the Steelers and Patriots. From all indications, Brandon Weeden will be the guy for the Browns this season, and Hoyer will compete with Jason Campbell and Thaddeus Lewis for the No. 2 spot.
once upon a time, i moved from the detroit area to tulsa around labor day. when i got to tulsa, the temp was 107, and yet it was more comfortable than the mid 80s with high humidity i had left behind. "it's not the heat, it's the humidity", while trite, is also true in a lot of cases.
By Fred Greetham OBR Senior Browns Reporter Posted May 16, 2013 Browns quarterbacks take center stage on final day - and only day open to the media - of full-team OTAs. 0 Comments BEREA?Always the most talked about position is quarterback and at the final day of Organized Team Activities (OTA) for the first week, was no different. The Browns practiced Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the final day the only day open to the media. Brandon Weeden took the first snaps with the first team with Jason Campbell with the second team. Safety Eric Hagg intercepted a pass from Weeden on a high throw that Josh Gordon tipped up in the air. Later on, Weeden threw a perfect touchdown pass to Davone Bess. ?Obviously my third day wasn?t as good as the first two,? Weeden said. ?The completions weren?t as high as they were on the first two days. The first two days we were flying around and making plays.? Weeden said he feels more confident in his second season. ?I?m already familiar with the guys,? he said. ?Day three last year to day three this year is night and day. This offense makes more sense. Once you hear it, you get it. Plus me, and my wife have spent way too much time studying the playbook.? Weeden said there are a lot of similarities to the system he flourished in at Oklahoma State. ?There are a lot of (similarities),? he said. ?It?s not just the tempo and being in the shotgun but just the whole offense. ?I?ve got really good guys around me,? he said. ?(Josh) Gordon is playing great and (Greg) Little. We have five guys up front that do a great job. As a quarterback, if you have guys around you that can make plays, that?s what gives you confidence.? Weeden ran with the first team throughout practice. Rob Chudzinski said Weeden has done a good job of getting the offense into a higher tempo. He said he?s also been able to get to know Weeden better. ?He?s done a good job with that,? he said. ?It starts with calling the plays and working on the tempo. You get to know about him how he picks up and what we?re looking at is how he translates on to the field.? Jason Campbell said that the coaching staff is emphasizing the tempo, even installing a play clock. ?That?s one thing coach keeps preaching every day is getting out of the huddle and keeping the tempo up.? Chudzinski was asked how different it is for Weeden entering a second NFL season in a new system. ?Every year is different for the quarterback,? he said. ?They can?t get comfortable at that position. It?s a brand new system.? Meanwhile in his turn, Jason Campbell threw a perfect pass down the middle of the field to Josh Cooper for a touchdown as Cooper got behind undrafted rookie defensive back Abdul Kennah. Campbell also hit Travis Benjamin on a crossing route and threw a dart to Jordan Norwood for a 25-yard gain. Campbell also gave Benjamin some instruction when the second-year receiver broke off a route the wrong way. ?We?re learning well this offense we have a great relationship pushing each other,? Campbell said. ?We have the same goal is to win as a team and get better.? Chudzinski has not named a starting quarterback heading to training camp in July and Campbell was asked if he felt there was true competition for the starting job. ?We haven?t talked much about (competition),? Campbell said. ?Whatever reps you get you compete at a high level. There has not been a lot of talk about it. ?We?re all out here trying to get better,? he said. ?We have a great offensive coordinator in Norv Turner and coach in Rob Chudzinski. They are two offensive minded coaches and my role is to learn the offense and try to get better every day.? Campbell said he has no problem in helping Weeden. ?You can?t have an ego and have to put those things aside,? he said. ?I?ve been in the league nine years and understand the role.? Chudzinski likes what he?s seen so far of Campbell. ?He has had experience and success in the league,? he said. ?He has a good arm, good mobility and brings experience along with a good touch.? Chudzinski didn?t shed any more light on the quarterback situation, when asked if the team might bring in another quarterback such as recently released Brian Hoyer or will the Browns go to camp with the three they currently have. ?All that will remain to be seen,? he said. ?We?re coaching these guys up. I feel good with how they?ve progressed. Brandon is working with the first group. Jason with the second and Thaddeus (Lewis) with the rest.? Notebook For Starters: For the beginning of OTAs in team drills, here?s how the Browns lined up: Offense: QB-Brandon Weeden; RB Trent Richardson; WR Josh Gordon, Greg Little; TE Jordan Cameron, Kellen Davis; Offensive line: Joe Thomas, Shawn Lauvao, Alex Mack, John Greco, Mitchell Schwartz. Defense: LDE Ahtyba Rubin, NT Phil Taylor, RDE Desmond Bryant; LOLB Paul Kruger, ILB Craig Robertson, D?Qwell Jackson, ROLB Jabaal Sheard; LCB Joe Haden, RCB Buster Skrine; SS T.J. Ward; FS Tashaun Gipson. Mingo was his Name: No. 1 pick Barkevious Mingo ran with the second team on the right side and dropped in coverage breaking up a pass intended for TE Kellen Davis thrown by QB Jason Campbell. Defensive coordinator Ray Horton was asked about Mingo. ?We?re not putting any timetable on him (to start),? he said. ?On tape, we saw an explosive player and now he?s learning some things that are new to him. There?s a learning curve for him. ?We want him to be a dominating football player.? No Leon: Rookie third-round draft choice Leon McFadden was absent as school is still in session at San Diego State. He is expected to battle with CB Buster Skrine and Chris Owens for the starting right cornerback position. ?He?s finishing up with school and will be back next week,? Chudzinski said. On the Side: Rookie S Jamoris Slaughter (Achilles) was on the exercise bike along with undrafted rookie OL Kevin Faulk (knee). WR David Nelson (knee) is still rehabbing his knee. WR Jordan Norwood was being worked on after a collision down field on a pass play. The Numbers: One of main offensive additions was WR Davone Bess. He is wearing No. 18, but he has already caught Weeden?s attention in practice. ?He brings consistency he?s a great route runner,? Weeden said. ?He?s a technician. He catches everything and has a great feel for what he?s doing out there.? New Spot: DB Johnson Bademosi has changed his number and his position. Bademosi is wearing number 24 and he was playing safety instead of cornerback as he did last year in practice. ?He?s a good football player,? Chudzinski said. ?He?s a good tackler and from an athletic standpoint, we?re taking a look at him at safety. We?re going to move guys around.? Defensive coordinator Ray Horton said it?s all part of his plan for the defense. ?It?s part of the hybrid defense,? Horton said. ?We?re moving guys around that are athletic players.? Changing of the Guard: Shawn Lauvao started the last two years at right guard and was playing left guard Thursday. John Greco was at right guard with the first team. ?We?re rolling guys around at the guard position,? Chudzinski said. ?Jason Pinkston is just getting back in there and we?re moving all the guards around.? Chudzinski said a part of the offense is getting the guards to get outside. ?Part of the install is for the guards to get outside.? Pinkston was the starting left guard last season until he was placed on injured reserve with a life threatening blood clot in his lung. ?I want to just get back on the field and get a starting job,? he said. Gordon?s Growth: Weeden says that WR Josh Gordon is much further along than he was as a rookie last season. ?There?s no doubt about it,? he said. ?It?s not just on the field but walking around in the building. He?s playing faster and has a lot of confidence.? Weeden envisions some of the matchups that Gordon might get. ?Getting him out there on a corner alone, I would have no hesitation in throwing the ball up for him. He?s that good.? Chudzinski said he has seen growth. ?I?ve really seen improvement in Josh in his route running and have really been pleased with his progress.?
I went through basic training at FT Sill,Oklahoma from May till August ..you talk about HOT ..SW Oklahoma is part desert and is gotta be one of the hottest places on earth .I understand for all to well . Tulsa , Oklahoma is far North from where i was at .i have no desire to go back there ..Scorpions .rattlesnakes poisonous spiders and more poisonous snakes ..WTH? If it had fangs it lived there . then i ot sent back there after my time in Germany came to a end ,,loved Germany Barvaria was the perfect climate . when it hit 80 it was hot over there . no humidity in Augsburg . the Alps was outside our base so i guess it would have been like living in the Rockies maybe . all 4 seasons .
... and the excuse-making continues. So just adding the media made him perform worse? Good to know that he chokes when he takes center stage.
the thing is with the addition of both Campbell & Hoyer Weeds will have to get it done to stick .Competition will bring the best out in him in all three of them . i love the Hoyer addition . if Weeds falters or gets hurt we have depth . real depth in Campbell . Hoyer hasn't played that much but is a local kid who Lombardi fell in love with while still babbling away on the NFL Network . Campbell is a team player first . i love his attitude and would have no problems seeing him under center . just someone get it done . i am still betting on Weeds to start the season .he may not finish it but i think he will show enough to earn the starting role .
