I don't get it... ? Pro-Football-Reference and NFL.com have the exact same values... PFR just has more of them.

  2. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Again... both PFR and NFL have identical statistics. PFR just goes another step further and not only performs more analysis, but gives you more detail about said stats. It's also a whole lot more user-friendly because they're aren't non-stop ads, pop-ups and flash running to slow it down.

  3. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Thank you, Irish. Yes, I should have said 10:26 out of 27:22... I just got lazy.

The point, which I feel has been woefully missed, is that the offense and defense were both performing like crap and since the defense was stuck on the field for 61.9% of the first half (again, this is before the Browns' final drive of the half), perhaps that had something to do with them surrendering huge plays and, in general, under-performing.

Combine that with the offense's inability to score points and the defense is reeling trying to slow down the Titans while they continue to attack aggressively, hoping to bury the Browns.

  4. And the point, in which I feel you have completely missed, is that the Browns defense wasn't "on the field too much" in the Titans first 3 drives, when the Browns D was letting Locker look like First Ballot H.O.F.er!!! Out of Tenn first three drives which were drives of, 3:07, 3:51, 3:19, for a total of 10:17 (don't you worry your little head, I made sure to use PFR) The Browns defense, which sure as hell shouldn't have "been tired" to START the damn game, was getting punked up and down the field! They only force the Titans into THREE 3 downs!!! THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DAMN OFFENSE!!!!

  5. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

    Yea . . . I snatched a number form the wrong column.

For the 1st half I show TOP for the Browns at 12:58 and for the Titans at 17:02. Approx a 43% / 57% split

  6. Wow..people just amaze me...yes I understand that and the Browns wuldnt have been running the ball if the Titans had a 7 man box...since they had a 5 man box it was an easy decision to run the ball when they didnt even have a LB in the middle of the field

Not so sure about that comment either. But if they did, it was to respect the pass. Not because they were in prevent, you dolt.

Keep changing your argument as it gets proven completely incorrect at every turn. You'll run out of side streets sooner or later.

  8. Havnt changed my argument one time....they played soft and the end result was 90 yds and a TD after getting less than 100 yds total 4 almost 27 mins....u have blinders on and just want 2 believe they had respect for the passing game

If you haven't changed your argument, then you're just plain blind, suffering from Alzheimers and still wrong.

    Actually you have Stopper:

Original argument; They were in prevent
Current argument; They were playing soft

That is not even close to being the same thing..

I have argued since week one the Browns were playing soft, even though they play a press coverage. It wasn't at the end of halves, it was in their normal coverage. It's hard to press a guy when you are 8 yards off the line of scrimmage, you are already out of your 5 yard penalty free zone.

    That is soft...

So do you teach your students, er athletes, to recognize coverage, or just how to catch? How specific is your role as an athlete teacher?

I'm a high school football coach = I [del]coach[/del] yell at the coach from the stands during my little boy's PeeWee team's games.

  12. How many times have I said they had a soft box(tackle 2 tackle)...of course we have 2 recognize coverage and make adjustments....dont try and think ur smart Irish...like I said any time u want to do chalk talk Im more than willing..btw OSU fans our WR was just offered by Urban this morning at our school, but he has work 2 do since they kinda slow played him according 2 the kid....good old Luke Fickell will b at the game 2nite

As the Browns prepare for perhaps their biggest game against the Steelers since the only postseason appearance for the reconstituted Cleveland franchise (which consisted of a shootout loss at Heinz Field), an unpleasant chapter in franchise history could soon be repeating itself.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer is playing well enough to force the Browns to give him serious consideration for the starting job in 2015. Which would mean keeping Johnny Manziel on the bench.

It won?t be easy, or cheap, to keep Hoyer. Hoyer is due to become a free agent after the season. And with each passing week in which he demonstrates a considerable degree of passing proficiency, Hoyer gains more and more leverage.

So far, Hoyer?s health and performance have vindicated his decision to rebuff the team?s effort to sign him to a new contract prior to the season. Per a league source, the Browns offered Hoyer backup money. Hoyer, via agent Joe Linta, countered with something considerably higher than that.

Linta said in late June that Hoyer?s value won?t be known until November 1 at the earliest. Come November 1, however, the Browns may not be ready to make a financial commitment that necessarily would make Hoyer the starter in 2015.

That?s the ultimate challenge for the Browns. As Hoyer?s value increases, a decision to re-sign him to money reflecting his potential market value means he?ll be the starter in 2015. Which sets the stage for another Derek Anderson-Brady Quinn controversy in Cleveland.

Hoyer-Manziel could be very different than Anderson-Quinn. Anderson was presumably holding the spot in 2007 after Charlie Frye was dumped following a Week One blowout loss (to the Steelers, of course). It was widely believed that Anderson would be benched as soon as Quinn, who had held out for much of training camp, was ready. So Anderson knew he?d eventually be getting the hook, which tends to make a quarterback not worry about getting the hook. Which, as former NFL quarterbacks will explain, allows a guy to play better.

Anderson played well enough to take the team to a 10-6 record and the brink of the playoffs.

Come 2008, Anderson (who re-signed as a restricted free agent) had something to lose. And lose it he eventually did.

Hoyer, in contrast, already has displayed on a consistent basis the ability to perform while knowing that his job is on the line. Hoyer won an open competition with Manziel. Likewise, Hoyer has performed well enough to continue to keep Manziel on the bench.

Indeed, Hoyer has been playing incredibly well. Hoyer nearly brought the Browns back from a 27-3 deficit in Pittsburgh, he led the Browns to a late win over the Saints, he nearly knocked off the Ravens, and then he authored the greatest road comeback in NFL history, erasing a 28-3 deficit in Tennessee. If Manziel had done those things, it?s all anyone in the national media would be talking about.

Come January if not sooner, the Browns need to be talking about what they plan to do with Hoyer. If he leads them to the second playoff appearance since the Browns returned to the league in 1999, it becomes impossible to let him walk away.

And walk away he would. Hoyer told PFT Live last month that, despite his intense desire to play for his hometown team, he?d definitely want to start somewhere else instead of being a backup with the Browns. Before the Browns let him go, they need to be sure that they believe Manziel can do the things Hoyer already has done ? especially if there?s a chance Hoyer could end up doing those things to the Browns.

Stopper, what you are too blind to realize is that we are talking "chalk" right now and you are failing miserably. Every time we get into one of these discussions, you fail miserably. What do you mean by anytime I want to do chalk talk? We do it regularly and you fail miserably.

I have been coaching sports since 1992, granted I will admit they are youth sports (age 14 and under). But coaching is coaching. You have shown me very little to believe you would make a competent coach in anything you write on these boards. Maybe you are more of a "show me this" type of teacher as relating to the players, I honestly don't know. However, "doing chalk talk" is something you fail at miserably on a message board, I can't imagine what you would be like in a film room. I have to imagine a coach would ask for a private meeting after you talked and ask you to never do it again...

And I will now remind you EXACTLY what you said:

Not, they had a soft box, (2 tackle)...That came after you were called out on a "PREVENT DEFENSE"

  15. Holy crap some people are hilarious....they were in a PREVENT...they wanted to keep everything in front of them and were vulnerable in the run game....this is far from chalk talk...u havnt done 1 thing regarding x's and o's, showed an illustration or brought up a video...take a look at Balt section and u will see some clips and shots during the game I think Beachbum did it. Ya u know what is said during film and how I relate 2 my players lol

  16. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

And in the same vein, you can't even explain yourself with facts as to what you are attempting to say. Let alone posting videos and drawing on a message board...honestly, I don't know that I am smart enough to figure out how to do that on these boards. that is something else I will admit to.

When it is written out, thanks to TD by the way, showing 5 man rushes and blitzes, that is what I am talking about in this particular case. Show me a prevent defense that encorporates blitzes on 40%+ of their plays...you are talking about 2 tackle box, even if that is the case, there will be a 5 man surrounding them, whether 5 LBs, more likely 4 LBs and an extra safety...It plays similar to a 3-4, rather than a 4-3 with an extra man floating to the particular play call.

It doesn't make it a prevent defense...

    The Morning Kickoff ?

Happy anniversary: A year ago, these were the worst of times in the pro career of Brian Hoyer.

His dream of playing quarterback for his hometown Browns turned into a nightmare with a torn knee ligament in his third start on Oct. 3, 2013. He was preparing for knee surgery right at this time. The expectation of a second child due any day added to his stress.

And now Hoyer is enjoying the best of times.

Two days after the anniversary of his knee injury, Hoyer authored the greatest comeback win in NFL history for a road team in a regular-season game. After that 25-point comeback, Hoyer boogied in the Browns? locker room as a circle of teammates bent over in laughter and jubilation.

The utter joy in Hoyer?s dance was rooted as much in celebration of his one-year recovery as in the historic triumph.

?For me, everything I?ve gone through in the past year, I want to enjoy it,? Hoyer said on Monday. ?I want to go out and have fun. You never know when it?s going to be taken away from you.?

    Enjoy it he has.

The week that was: Every day, it seems, another national media entity features Hoyer as a story or interview guest. He is not about to turn down national requests. Not now. Not after what he?s been through.

On Monday, Peter King, in his Monday Morning Quarterback roundup, named Hoyer co-offensive player of the week with Peyton Manning.

On Tuesday, Hoyer?s jersey was put on display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Joining it was the jersey of receiver Travis Benjamin, whose two touchdown catches completed the record comeback.

?It?s pretty cool,? Hoyer said, adding with a laugh, ?but with my luck that record will get broken this week.?

On Wednesday, Kurt Warner of NFL Network named Hoyer fifth on his list of Top 5 Quarterbacks of the Week. The others? Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, Manning, Russell Wilson.

Also on Wednesday, Hoyer was the feature subject in a FOX Sports 1 on 1 interview. In it, Hoyer opened up on his seemingly distant relationship with franchise quarterback-in-waiting Johnny Manziel.

"From the outside, people probably don't think we like each other much, but we have a great quarterback room," Hoyer said. "Are we best friends? No. But there's 53 guys in there, (and) you're not going to have 53 best friends.

?Johnny is a very polarizing figure and he brings a lot of fans with him, whether they're Cleveland fans or national fans. But I think being from here and having the success I did, I think I showed the people of Cleveland that I was more than capable of being their quarterback."

On Thursday, King speculated that Hoyer might be the Browns? quarterback of the future ? not just the caretaker for Manziel.

Finish the job: Despite all the hoopla about and over-scrutiny of Manziel ? What exactly was he laughing about on the sideline? -- this Browns season has always been about Hoyer. And it will continue to be about him.

How far the Browns climb to respectability depends on him. So far, he has been the MVP of a 2-2 team. Second place belongs to an entire unit ? the offensive line.

In order for Hoyer?s dream as Browns quarterback to stay alive, he has to earn a new contract from the Browns. For that, he must stay on the field. And he must win.

With a new contract comes a real commitment ? not just an opportunity to compete.

This week, former Browns CEO Joe Banner characterized it as: ?One of the toughest contract decisions on both sides I have ever seen.?

On Thursday, Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who was a hard sell on Hoyer from the start, raved about Hoyer?s game in Tennessee.

?I think Brian?s gotten better each week,? Shanahan said. ?He did some good things in the Pittsburgh game, did some better things in New Orleans, had his best game at that time versus Baltimore. Then, I thought he played his best this week versus Tennessee. I think Brian?s gotten more comfortable in the offense each week, and I think he?s gotten more comfortable in himself.?

But, like most everyone else, Shanahan expressed reservation about Hoyer?s ceiling as a pro quarterback because of the small sample size.

?Yeah, I think it?s a mystery to everybody because he hasn?t played a lot of games,? Shanahan said. ?He?s played four this year, and I think he?s gotten better in each game. I always will say you get better or worse, and if he continues to get better each week I think we?re going to have a pretty good quarterback when it?s all said and done.?

To some, Hoyer hasn?t accomplished anything that Kelly Holcomb or Derek Anderson hadn?t done previously. They had their moments, of course, and then flamed out as Browns quarterbacks.

For Hoyer to win everyone over, he has to do much more. And it starts with beating Pittsburgh and Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday.
