SAS, come on man. Not clutch? By what measure? The guy's started what 6 games, and "only" has two 4th quarter final drives for the win. Horrible! Look, I know you want to see what Johnny's got. I get it, but your wanting to see him (along with every media outlet) dosn't have anything to do with a team trying to win games. You want more JF plays. Why? I want to win games, and I don't mind a few JF plays, but not at the expense of ruining what's working, and right now Hoyer's game is working. And putting him in "crucial" situations? OK so we're teetering on the fence between pulling off a winning drive and going down in flames and you want the rookie, who's not even convinced his coaches, or his team mates he's ready, to be the guy handling the ball? I'm glad Pettine's the coach.
OK so let's project. Say Hoyer continues to play well and we win games, not necessarily that "he" wins games, but we win games. No window of opportunity opens for JF. Now what. The season ends and we make the playoffs. Do we start JF? Do we open camp next year with an open competition. Does Hoyer get let go? Does JF get let go? Is the scenario above our worst nightmare or an embarassment of wealth at QB? If it happens that way, then what's the move? Do we sign Hoyer, who will certainly garner interest from some of the less fortunate teams, but if he is unsigned, we risk losing him for nothing in return. 3 games in. Most of this will clarify as the season unforlds. I'm enjoying the present, and cannot root for Hoyer to fail, so take a seat Johnny, and learn and grow up a little, we're still going to need you, and I'd like to think you'll be ready.
People are missing the point of my argument except for SAS...like I mentioned what good does Hoyer do 4 the future of this franchise if they go 5-11, 7-9 or 8-8 and he walks at end of season cause he wants $$$$$....now heading into the following season u have an unknown at QB that didnt get hardly any playing time and ur counting on him to win games cause the FO thinks their playoff contenders....they do things backwards and thats why their always in the position their in w QBs....now if they feel Hoyer is their guy and give him an extension then their ok, but they wasted a 1st round pick on a QB that wont have much value
That list is over their history not 3 games lol and thats why I said mayb Stafford and Wilson...Stafford has won plenty of games, but nothing in the playoffs and Wilson was aided by a great run game and best defense
The point is that Hoyer is playing well enough to be 13th in rating this season. Your list... Eh, these guys are only as good as what they are doing right now.
Okay, so by your own admission, the "point" (that none of us are getting except for SAS) is completely based on your personal projections of what you think might happen if we continue on this path with Hoyer. lol! Gimme a break How do you know we won't go 10-6 with Hoyer as the starter, make the playoffs, and get our first post-season victory since 95? How do you know the Browns aren't working on contract scenarios to lock up Hoyer for the future? I mean c'mon stopper, this "point" is pure speculation... I'm glad the Browns aren't blind to the fact that they may have a real QB in Brian Hoyer. The guy is finally getting an NFL opportunity, and the offense is clicking. He's making the most of it...This notion of yours that we are wasting the season is complete hogwash.
Ok if u feel they will b 10-6 thats fine, but I dont c it therefore said those records....I have no idea what their doing behind closed doors, but if u feel Hoyer is a real QB ur the 1 being blinded....he hit WRs that were WIDE open on deep routes vs Balt that any QB shuld do...I cant remember 1 pass off the top of my head where he threaded the needle and made a perfect pass...if u have video...I wuld like 2 c it
We have a QB that is playing well for god sakes. lol! Stopper, this is exactly the kind of stuff that is just embarrassing to real Browns fans. BS like what you are spewing is why people like Jim Rome spend 2 hours a day making fun of us on syndicated radio. It's sad....geezus Just because you say we will go 5-11 with Hoyer, doesn't make it so... Just because you "don't c it" in regards to the Browns possibly going 10-6 with Hoyer, doesn't mean it won't happen... So now you are saying, every success that Hoyer has had has been because our WR's were wide open, and he hasn't "threaded the needle" enough to your liking? lmao. Perfect passes huh? That's where the bar is set? lol! Do you realize how absurd that is? Are you not aware of the QB struggles this franchise has endured? smh
U culdnt have said it any better....ur comparing Hoyer 2 guys like Frye, Quinn, Wynn etc....hes playing so good that hes ranked 13th according to Tim and their record is 1-2....when they scored 17 pts vs Cincy and gave up only 6 and were down 10-0 when he got hurt vs Buff all we kept hearing was Hoyer is 3-0...now that they scored 27 and 21 pts and lose hes playing great....lol
I got a job for Manziel . let him hold on FG'S & Xtra points . at least when the snap is bad and the snaps have been bad this year to date he can RUN . If we change any personnel may it be the long snapper . Yount has lost it .
*BRAVO* Actually Bluez that sounds like a good way to get JF into the game it would also allow for a greater threat of a fake. Give the ST a boost. I guess what is really bugging me about all this put in JF and see what he's got shtuff is that you've already conceded to a sub .500 season and that the Browns will never win because the Starting QB sucks. And yet the offense is rated higher than it's been since... It's been a long time. The defense, which is supposed to be a strength of this team, couldn't stop a class C( 6 man) HS team from scoring. It's early in the year Browns fans and we've lost two games bay a total of 5 points late in the fourth quarter. Yet it is all the "career backup" QB's fault. Even though the guy is playing better than several other "Elite" QB's. And as to what happens if Hoyer lights it up and keeps JF holding the clipboard for a while longer. Well then we have a solid insurance policy if Hoyer gets hurt( see RGIII/Cousins). Now I don't expect Miracles, Rome wasn't built in day, but 8-10 wins is certainly feasible this year. And THAT would be something to build on.
I'm still waiting for one of the Manzealot's? (SAS 2014) to explain to me, just how in the hell you're going to explain to the locker room that you're benching Hoyer (who's playing lights out) and starting Johnny (a rookie who by all accounts hasn't fully grasped the playbook)?
That was weeks ago that he didn't have a grasp on the playbook JYD... Does someone on here have an argument that Hoyer has a better set of tools...I.E. Arm strength, mobility, accuracy etc...than Manziel coming out of college? That is the argument that we are having. Because, if it is a general consensus that Manziel's toolbox is deeper and wider, then when he gets caught up playbook-wise, he surpasses Hoyer. The playbook is why Hoyer was named the starter 5 weeks ago. These weeks, I am almost certain (I haven't seen any swan pics) Manziel has been spending time learning that playbook. So, if the team sees Johnny as a more lucrative weapon, why in the hell wouldn't they want that extra ammo in the offense? You are all pining on the "fact" this coaching staff believes more in Hoyer than Manziel. We don't know that is the case. He simply had a better grasp on being a professional in training camp, something to be expected of a player entering his 6th season. The variable we don't know is when Johnny catches up and surpasses Hoyer. That is when the coaching staff will make a move...IF it ever happens. I will conceded it may not EVER happen, I just don't think that will be the case. These are professionals, all they care about is winning football games. If Manziel would help them do that, then I have no doubt they would be on board. I also conceded that these coaches have got to figure something else out on defense because it isn't working. Both QBs will have a hard time, if they need to score 30 points every game to win.
Lights out? He has thrown only 1 TD in each game....must of had very low expectations...here are some guys who played lights out Matt Ryan 21-24 286 yds 3 TDs Nick Foles 27-41 325 yds 3 TDs Andrew Luck 31-39 370 yds 4 TDs All wins
Are you saying that if Pettine walks into the locker room today and told the team "We feel JF has 'more tools' and a 'higher ceiling', even tho Hoyer has been playing well, we're gonna start JF moving forward, cuz we (the coaching staff) thinks he gives us a better chance to win"... you think the veterans on this team would be okay with that, because as you stated, "They're professionals" and "All they care about is winning".... you feel they would be on board? Your love affair for JF has made you delusional my friend!
Congrats, you found the stats of the three QB's playing the best so far this young season (slow clap).... now, could you answer my one simple question? How do you, at this point in the season, with what you've seen these first 3 weeks, sell to the team, that you're starting JF and benching Hoyer.... go ahead.... I'll wait...
No, I think the direct opposite is true, your love affair with Hoyer has made you delusional. You think this team would stop playing to their abilities because the coaching staff believes Manziel gives them a better chance to win? The veterans said before they made the announcement that they wanted the one that gives them a better chance to win, why would that change now? Because Hoyer's stats are middle of the pack good? Really? I have a love affair with the Cleveland Browns. If this team could win 10-12 games per year that is when I will be happy. So far they are 1-2...bottom line. Hoyer is playing well above where he has ever gone before and is still a middle of the road QB. Look, he is a hometown guy, I wish he would magically over night become something more, I would actually LOVE that scenario..End of the day, it isn't going to happen. I don't know that Manziel is any better...if he isn't then by all means keep the veteran in there and let's stay the course. I simply feel, based on what I saw from Manziel, that he is a better QB overall and once he gets a good grasp on the offense will be a better option. The better option is the one I want playing. If that option remains Hoyer, then that is fine with me, but I will still want another QB taken in the 2015 draft if that is the case. Hoyer hasn't thrown and INT, that is what makes him "great" at this point. Every other part of his game is, at best, average. I don't want to live with average at the most important position on the field.
Question for the Manziel supporters. Are you really not taking into account how bad your defense is in regards to the 1-2 record? Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Andrew Luck are also 1-2 right now. No matter how much the media pushes it, a QB isn't winning too many games with a bad team all around. Stay in the AFC North for a second. Look at Roethlisberger. 10+ years in the league and 0 playoff appearances without a top 5 defense, but many say he can carry a team. Flacco won his superbowl with a historic playoff performance, but if you remove one single player from that offense and it likely doesn't happen. And Dalton wouldn't be in most discussions without a WR like AJ Green. If you'd be willing to stick with Hoyer if he was 3-0 then you should stick with him now, because he's not the reason your aren't 3-0
